Chapter 10 The Proposal
Lucas woke up about 4:00 am and loaded everything into the car. Including the rings and his and Elizabeth's attire. He had no idea what she would think about this spontaneous proposal, but he was going to try. He loved her and wanted nothing more than to be husband and wife. He said goodbye to his lonely mansion and hoped when he returned, he would not be living there alone.
He pulled up to Elizabeth's at 5:15am and knocked on the door. She answered. "Lucas I am almost ready."
"I will take your bags out to the car."
He loaded the car. Then helped her in as they headed to the local airfield.
"Lucas are we not flying out of the San Francisco airport?"
Just about that time they pulled into the local airfield where Lucas's private jet was gassed up and ready to go. "Lucas? You have your own plane."
"I do. I wish I could fly it, but I let my pilot do all of that."
He took her luggage and then helped her inside where there was a living room and a private bedroom in the back.
"Lucas, this is amazing."
"Wait until you see the bedroom." He said as he opened the door. Elizabeth covered her mouth at the site of the ring surrounded by rose petals laying on the heart shaped mattress. There were candles all over the room, a bottle of champagne iced, and chocolate covered strawberries sitting on a tray by the bed.
She was in shock. She had not expected this.
"Elizabeth, I love you more than life itself and know that you are my future. You are the one I want to grow old with and have a family with. He picked the ring up and got down on one knee. There is nothing I won't do for you or give you. What's mine is yours and I will always be there for you. Elizabeth Thatcher, will you make me the happiest man alive and agree to be my wife?"
"Oh Lucas." She pulled him in for a deep, passionate kiss. "Of course, I will."
"Great, because I only booked one room for this trip, and it is a honeymoon suite at the Miami Grand."
"I don't understand. Are you wanting to get married this weekend? It is so soon. What about our families? I always pictured a large wedding."
"Just hear me out. We can get married in Miami and have the wedding of your dreams when we get back in San Francisco. Elizabeth, I know it is sudden and unexpected, but I don't want to wait. I want you to walk beside me through life for the rest of my days. You are all I want and need. Please marry me."
"Yes Lucas, I will."
Had she just agreed to this she thought to herself. This man drove her crazy in so many ways. This was crazy.
Lucas picked her up and kissed her deeply swinging her around he laid her on the bed. Then he got up and locked the door as he felt the plane take off. He then rejoined her on the bed. She cuddled into his shoulder as they drank some champagne, and they fed each other strawberries.
"Lucas, I can't believe this is happening. You put so much thought into this. What would you have done if I had said no?"
"I would have got an extra room. In five and a half hours we will land in Miami and you Miss Thatcher are going to be Mrs. Bouchard. I can't wait to make you mine forever!"
"Lucas I didn't bring wedding attire." She teased.
"No need I have your dress with me."
"You are amazing Mr. Bouchard."
"Let's hope you still say that this evening." He grinned.
Elizabeth blushed at the thought of being with him intimately. He was in fact gorgeous and now she was getting nervous. "Lucas I am going to be honest. I am a little nervous about this evening."
"Don't be nervous or scared Elizabeth. I promise to treat you like a Goddess." He ran his hands through her silky hair and took her hand in his other one as they cuddled there. "If you are tired, we can go back to sleep?"
She was too excited to go back to sleep. "Really! I am engaged and in a short time I am going to be Mrs. Lucas Bouchard. Then by tonight I will have fully given myself to you as a wife." The thought excited her as she pulled him in and kissed him passionately. He was more than happy to reciprocate until their breathing became labored and they had to pull back for air."
"I can hardly wait!" He groaned as she blew in his ear almost causing his undoing. He felt the shiver up his spine. "This is going to be the longest plane ride of my life."
"Lucas, I have 5 months left on my lease."
"I will pay the five months and you can move in with me. Elizabeth, my money will now be your money. I am going to promote Mike to host. I will only be at the club on Friday's and Saturday's now, but I would love it if you would be there with me those two nights."
"I will definitely be there on Saturday's, but I can't promise Fridays after school." She replied.
"We will work on it."
They had laid in there for the entire five hours talking when Ben announced over the intercom. "Sir we are about to land."
"Thank you, Ben!"
They returned to the living room where they put on seatbelts and waited patiently for their landing. The plane landed and Lucas and Elizabeth got off. The car was waiting, and the driver was loading their luggage. Plan A went great, and Lucas was grateful. Now it was time for Plan B.
