Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Fight or Flight. Enjoy the 1000-word chapter. I don't own RWBY, Monty Oum, and Rooster Teeth do.
(Vale.)
Raven looked at Maize who spread out, pausing only to look at Maize who was quiet, unsure what was going on at the moment.
"Remind me what exactly is this mission?" Raven heard from Maize who held up his revolver, pondering what Raven's plan was. "I'm still wondering what the hell Grimm are doing out here. There's nothing out here for them to kill to begin to think these monsters are everywhere." Maize added to which Raven rolled her eyes.
"How intelligent for you, Maize," Raven muttered, keeping Omen at the ready if she needed her blade. "You should know for a fact that this isn't going to be an easy mission if they sent in us, there's nothing easy about what Ozpin sends us on. I'm just curious what he'd send us out here to handle something like a hive… Has anyone seen the hive? Or Professor Goodwitch?" Raven questioned, pausing to look around at the people around her, curious as to what would next if it came down to it.
Still? There was going to be plenty of Grimm to clear out. They wouldn't allow them to simply defeat the rampaging monsters… Even if Raven knew she and the others were good at clearing out dozens of the Grimm. One couldn't so easily argue with their proficiency at destroying the bloodthirsty monsters.
"Perhaps she simply tired of dealing with Maize's childish antics." Sal put in, earning a single gesture from Maize who rolled his eyes at the boy's inane gesture. "Thank you for proving my point, Maize. You are childish for the second in command of the group we currently lead, you know. I question how dangerous you'd be when it comes down to it." Sal added to which Maize could only shake his head, pausing to turn and fire a blast that made Sal turn.
Sal turned to see a Beowolf collapse to the ground, its head blown into pieces before Maize spun his weapon around.
"More dangerous than your sense of damned humor is, Sal." Maize responded, pausing to look at Raven. "Besides, I'm good at kicking the Grimm to the curb. You're acting as we've never had to do something this crazy. I'm not the boss of the group. If I was? We'd be handling something far more dangerous and probably twice as worse as me or some such thing. These monsters aren't as dangerous as you seem to say they are. They can still bleed, can't they?" Sal asked, pausing to brush off his coat before he put his gun back into the holster on his leg.
There was too much bloodshed already, to lose like this? He knew he'd probably be drawing the weapon more, probably on more Grimm than anything else. These creatures didn't know how to do much else of anything besides blow up, cut, or skewer the rest of the people in this area. These hives made Maize curious and scared, if they had the resources to procreate on such a scale? What was stopping them from killing countless people?
"Where's Tai?" Raven questioned, making the duo turn back to her a moment later. "If the hive is close? We need everyone to crush them before they gather enough strength to attack and overwhelm us." Raven pointed out which got a nod from the duo.
Maize watched Sal vanish into the foliage. He was silent at this before crossing his arms as he shook his head. He trusted the Atlesian, but the Grimm continued to put him on edge at every single turn he encountered them. These creatures were ruthless, relentless, and driven by a need for destruction and a desire for death and carnage.
"He thinks I'm so bad, yet he's willing to throw caution to the wind." Maize said, patting his holster as he looked at Raven. "The Grimm enjoys killing. They kill him a lot worse on the whole match than anyone else, I'm not going to sugarcoat things. The Grimm are only slightly less dangerous than people, they're smart enough to plan, more dangerous compared to wild animals. Do we run into the hive so fast? They butcher us before we get time to plan about the next move." Maize added, pausing to consider what these monsters would do.
"And if they find us and we must face them like we've been doing?" Raven questioned to which Maize didn't answer, not knowing what to say. "The Grimm aren't unstoppable; we've killed enough of them for you to know that. That hive? It's just a big chunk of gunk for us to kill." Raven added, pausing to place her mask back on her head as he chuckled at her joke.
"We should go, make sure these things don't spread then." Maize added, looking over his shoulder at the forest. "And find Ms. Goodwitch that way she can yell at Sal for rushing off when it comes down to it. I'm looking forward to that." Maize stated before the sound of growls cut them off.
Both Maize and Raven drew their weapons, pausing only to look around at the various Grimm which began to emerge. They were beginning to get surrounded by the Grimm, much to Maize's amusement.
"Seems I'll be eating my own words." Maize added, a small smile putting at his lips as he did so.
Maize drew his guns as Raven looked at Omen. Victoria and Retribution clicked as he did so.
