Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Fight or Flight. Enjoy the 3300-word chapter. I don't own RWBY, Monty Oum, and Rooster Teeth do.

(Vale.)

Maize turned to look around before he hummed, turning to Raven who turned to slice a Beowolf in half. One of the creatures leaped onto Raven, knowing what she could do? Maize decided to leave her to deal with the Grimm as he turned to an Ursa.

Maize looked at the massive Grimm which lumbered forwards. Its fang-filled maw let out a massive roar before charging forward. Maize hummed, turning to roll backward.

"Are you ok? More Grimm is coming, damn pests seem to be drawn to our annoyance." Maize stated before Raven hummed.

Raven rolled her eyes as she slammed her feet into the creature's chest, throwing it into a tree, shaving a majority of the bark off before she dodged. There were plenty of monsters coming after them, Maize was quite right about that. However? Raven didn't plan on letting them kill her if she had her way. These Grimm were feral, they lacked control, any sense of self was quite nonexistent.

"Yes, I'll be ok." Maize heard from Raven as she turned and slashed the next monster. "Just worry about yourself. The Grimm might try and divide us." Raven added before she turned to slash the next Grimm.

Maize could fairly do that. He was well aware of how skilled Raven was when it came down to it. She could handle herself, that just left him to handle his portion of Grimm. Still? He was quite hopeful the others were handling themselves.

"How well do you do think the others will be?" Maize questioned before he shook his head. "Because currently? I think we got this when you think about it. They're just throwing themselves at us right now." Maize stated before he turned, shooting the Beowolf in the stomach.

The creature collapsed, vanishing into smoke as Maize and Raven stood back-to-back.

"You have to admire their determination in the face of death." Raven put in as Maize raised an eyebrow. "Just because I don't respect them? That doesn't mean I don't know what the Grimm can do. They're just throwing themselves at us. It's quite interesting, isn't it?" Raven stated before she turned.

'You and I have VERY different ideas of what counts as 'interesting', Rave.' Maize thought before he rolled backward.

The Beowolf lunged forward before Raven rushed towards the Ursa. The creature roared at her as Raven rolled her eyes before she hummed.

"Don't be a hero yet, Rave." Maize stated before he spun Vindication. "These guys might be stupid, but there's an army of them all trying to murder us." Maize said, pausing to shoot several more Grimm.

"We should fall back before they do some real damage." Maize stated as Raven turned. "What? You want to fight all of them? You got a grenade in that skirt?" Maize questioned to which Raven was silent.

"I have something for them, just buy me some time," Raven stated before she lunged at the Grimm, her sword blazing.

"Are we seriously doing this?" Maize questioned before he turned to her. "I mean it, are we seriously considering doing something this crazy?" Maize asked before he raised his eyebrow under his hat.

Still? There were plenty of these monsters to fight and starting to deal with these feral monsters. If they could? Maize wouldn't have any real issue engaging them. He just didn't feel like fighting an army of them for no real reason. There was no real tactical reason, nor would it help people when it came down to it.

"Yes, now let me fight or help me," Raven stated to which she hummed. "My semblance will get us out, just let them fight or back me up," Raven added before she shook her head.

"Your insane, you know that?" Maize questioned, risking a glare at the massive trees. "Leave it to us to be dealing with massive amounts of these creatures. Only you'd do something like this." Maize stated while she hummed to himself.

She could only look at Maize who was quite eager to fight these types of creatures… If only because he guessed that Raven had some sort of plan when it came down to it. This much work was quite fun, but he couldn't forget that these monsters could still Kill him given enough time and effort. It was just a matter of how many they were willing to lose before they fell.

Raven sighed as she started to slice into space. Her semblance wasn't as refined as she wanted it to be at the moment. Then again? She wasn't as used to cutting a hole in space as she wanted to be, her semblance was a means of retreat as opposed to attacking. She sliced into the air before she shook her head and cursed as she realized the problem with her semblance. She tried at least once more to confirm it hadn't been a simple miss swing.

"Rave? Anytime you're ready!" Maize shouted, putting a bullet through the chest of a Beowolf while he spun Vindicta in his hand. "Damn mutts! Stay down when I shoot you!" Maize stated while he sighed.

Raven turned before she slashed one of the Beowolves in half as the creatures started to surround them. Raven spun Omen in her hand while she started

"It's not as easy to use my semblance as you think it is," Raven said to which Maize turned. "I need to have bonded with someone before I can use it at the moment. That means I can only use it while I'm linked to someone." Raven added to Maize while she shook her head.

"Wait, what did you mean by that?" Maize asked before he cursed. "Then what's the plan? Do we fight all of them? I love a good scrap as much as the next person, Rave. We're fighting 200 Grimm by ourselves at least." Maize stated before Raven spun the blade through her fingers.

"Then they're too weak to fight us in a real fight," Raven stated while Maize rolled his eyes.

"Yeah, and my guns don't have enough ammo to deal with this!" Maize stated before he shook his head. "Do you want to fight the entire forest?" Maize asked to which Raven was silent.

She wanted to say yes. There was almost no reason not to. It wasn't like she had no reason to say that at the moment. Both she and Maize were more than capable of fighting through dozens of Grimm. They were skilled and powerful enough to dice through armies of Grimm.

But the logical and strategical part of her brain made her well aware of the facts. The Grimm were endless when it came down to it. Their auras and their weapons were not. Omen and Vindicta and Retribution had limited dust and ammo. Their weapons would wear down as would their bodies.

"Then we need to start clearing a path through the Grimm," Raven stated to Maize while she started to turn to Maize who sighed.

"Maybe." Maize responded, blasting a hole through the nearest Beowolf. "Do you think the next town will have more ammo? We've killed plenty of Grimm… Where the hell are the others?" Maize asked before he twisted and shot a Beowolf through the jaw.

The dying Grimm's ashy body left enough of a gap for the next one to leap at him. Maize shielded his eyes as Raven skewered the Grimm through the jaw and slammed it into the ground. She pivoted toward her friend and partner while he rubbed at his eyes.

"If it is anything like this one we were sent towards?" Raven asked as she flicked her blade clean. "Then my answer is yes. I don't know what else to say at this moment. I'm not going to lie? I hope they do. Omen's dust will run out sooner or later. I only have a limited number of blades in my sheath." Raven added while her partner raised an eyebrow.

'If she's as reliant on her weapon as I am? Why the hell does she want to fight every single Grimm in the forest at the time? She's either insane or she doesn't want to admit that we're kinda screwed more at the moment than she wants to admit.

"Then we need to make the most of what we can do." Maize stated to which Raven sighed to herself. "We need to cut through them towards the others… I regret sending the others towards the next town." Maize added while he spun his revolvers in his hands.

The snarling Grimm had surrounded them. The duo stood with their backs to herself, their weapons held up at the moment. Still? These monsters wanted to think while she hummed to herself. She nodded to her friend at the second before Maize sighed.

The fact they were about to case someone rather insane when it came down to it. He cleared his throat as the monsters started to encircle them.

"It simply means more Grimm to be killed by both of us," Raven added as she started to plan how best for them to escape the monsters that had encircled them. "Their cowards. Simply cowards who had managed to gain some small amount of intelligence." Raven added while she frowned to herself and started to gaze around the area.

She understood what he was pointing out. There were far too many monsters within the town for her to deal with. The more of them that laid waste to their defenses? The less of a chance they had to win. It wasn't hard to kill one of the Grimm when it came down to it. It was the fact that the army of them was wearing their supplies down faster than they were able to combat them. The fact that they were able to last this long? It told all they needed to know.

"They won't back down as easy as you seem to think they will." Maize stated while he spun his weapons in his hands and shot another of the Beowolves. "They're cunning and smart. They don't want to back down when it comes to it. I doubt they care how many we slay here." Maize added while he frowned to himself.

She was silent in return as she waited for her partner to reload. The more time they held for? The more she was able to form her plan and come up with a way to best combat the monsters who had swarmed them.

She didn't wish to listen to Maize's ramblings that they were outmatched. She didn't want to think of what happened if she was wrong and these monsters had come to feast on them. She wasn't planning to die here. Maize was rather interested in what happened next and what her plan was if it came down to them trying to escape at this moment.

It wasn't a bad idea. Yet it was one that still needed an opening to leave without a single issue on their end. He was also aware Raven wanted to stay and battle despite her urges to run. It made him smile.

"Hmm," Raven stated while she frowned to herself before she tilted her head. "We still need a plan if we are to retreat and get to the town city," Raven stated while she sighed to herself.

"And what happens next if we try and run?" Maize asked while he raised an eyebrow before he fired and shot another Beowolf in the head with annoyance. "Because I'm starting to run out of bullets." Maize stated while he frowned and shook his head.

"We lose them downhill," Raven added before she tilted her head as she did so. "We need to keep going now before we get outnumbered when it comes down to it," Raven added before she blinks.

"And what do we do next after that?" Lennix asked while she frowned to herself as she started to sigh with annoyance.

Lennix rested his weapons on his arms before he looked at the growling Beowolves who started to best think of what to do best as he spun his weapons and wondered what to do if his leader had been rather interested in combating something or someone else.

She wanted blood more than anything and yet? These monsters would not offer them any part of mercy when it comes down to it. Their tactics were horrible, yet they didn't need to use them at the moment. They would sooner or later start to whittle them down with effort. It didn't take a lot of effort to rip someone apart and gang up on them and the Grimm had no shortage of bodies to throw at them. Still? They were still fighting people who had rather beaten them in terms of skill.

It helped that both were teaming up when it comes down to it. Maize was rather interested in what happened next. These monsters had no match for their talent, yet they threw themselves into combat with reckless abandon at the moment.

Both had been in combat and were no real stranger to the din of it. They were not cowards either. Raven dismissed any lingering ideas she had of her friend being a coward as he didn't once try to abandon her to save herself.

"We aren't going anywhere with these monsters." Maize stated before he cleared his throat. "That sword any closer to breaking? There's only so much raw dust can do without breaking. Still surprising that it doesn't shatter into bits." Maize stated while he cleared his throat.

Maize sighed to himself before Raven dashed and sliced one of the Beowolves in half before he sighed to himself. She gazed at Maize before he slowly followed after her with interest as he did so. The fact that she sprinted forward as she sliced into the many Grimm that surrounded them as she ran forward and into the forest. He followed behind as fast as he was capable of. This woman was something else when he considered it and it made him wonder if she was insane. Her mask cloaked her face and hid the fear or emotion that was under her visage.

He was rather interested in how she had become so skilled before now. He noticed her duck and dodge the many dozens of Grimm while only stopping the slice the many monsters who seemed to challenge her.

"There's too many of these things to kill." Maize stated while he cleared his throat. "Keep going. We stop and they surround us." Maize said while he rolled through the claws of a Beowolf which almost closed around his chest and into his ribs.

Still? The more time that he lingered here was enough for a lifetime in his mind. He needed to be done with this and out of here. He simply sighed to himself before he dodged to himself before he looked at Raven.

'How many times is she going to simply act without telling me anything? She's going to get me killed by this rate.' Maize stated while he shook his head and prepared for combat. The more time he wasted on this thing? The more he hated it. He did find some sort of amusement in facing these monsters yet he was also rather done with this when he considered it. In the end, only so much fun could be had with monsters that tried to kill him. Raven either didn't seem to mind or didn't entirely care for the fact these thins almost ripped her in two.

She had to be either insane or she wasn't scared at all. He noticed many of the Grimm seemed disturbed by her more than she was scared of them. It helped that none of them seemed to attack her as she charged forward into the hordes with her blade drawn. He didn't bother trying to blast at any of the Grimm and simply transformed his weapons into their bladed forms. He sliced into them with blades that had ripped them apart. He flipped backward.

"We need to slice them away., Raven said to which Maize raised an eyebrow. "Ct a path through them. Sorry. I'm thinking rather than acting." Raen said while her friend nodded and simply stabbed one of the Beowolves.

He smiled as they flipped into the treetops where the monsters simply snapped at them with fangs of razor-sharp teeth and rage in their ravenous frothing attempts to kill them. It became obvious to him that they had little in the way of real intelligence, no, they were simply beasts of burden killing anything they could get their fangs and teeth on. Efficient at killing? Yes, smart and clever monsters? No, they were little more than cannon fodder which their master used to effectively block the bullets with, nothing more and nothing less. It sickened him, but it was a good tactic at the second.

Raven stared at him as he considered these beasts to be beneath her at the time. this could only end so well for her and it became obvious that she wasn't going to be interested in this when it came down to it.

"They can only try this so many times before it becomes boring. Honestly? There will be a lot better times for them to try this. I don't think they get the idea that it's not working." Raven stated as she sighed.

This wasn't going to be an easy battle, but she relished the attempt to press her into a corner. It made her need to rip the place up, do some actual damage. Maize sighed and rolled his eyes as he stared at the gaggle of monsters.

"This is going to suck, isn't it?" Maize asked as he hummed to himself.

"Maybe, but we don't know what will become of this plan if we don't stop these things. We either do or we don't." Maize heard from Raven. "Why? So scared of this that it comes hard when it comes down to it. We need to deal with the monsters" Maize heard to which he also seemed to sigh.

This wasn't going to be fun for him and he knew that, but he still wished to follow orders.

"Are we going to die fighting Grim like this? Maize asked with a raised eyebrow." Maize as he tilted his head before he seemed to spin his weapon and looked at her.

He smiled despite how terrified he was and stared at her. This had become a lot hard as he glanced down from where he had been. He shied away from the Grimm for a second while he tilted his head. He had become ready to rip them apart. Raven started at her before she tilted her head at these Grimm.

"You're the one who signed up for this, you know," Raven stated before she slashed at a leaping Beowolf.

"Doesn't mean I expected this to be fair." Maize said while he rolled his eyes. "This wasn't what I expected when it came down to it." Maize stated before she rolled his eyes.

Maize watched as Raven spun her sword through her hands. She and he faced dozens of Grimm before sharing a look at one another.
