Ghosts In His Eyes

Roy's eyes. They are one of the first things Edward notices about him. They were cool, calm and collected. They inspired composure and self-control. You saw him and instantly you felt poised and unruffled. But Edward saw something more, something more than even Hawkeye saw. He saw ghosts. He saw the ghosts of Roy's sins, their haunting unremitting and merciless. Their presence never faded and Edward empathized deeply with that aspect. He tried his best to chase away the ghosts in his eyes, and for just a few moments sometimes, when Roy was doing his best to achieve his goal to become Furher, a fire kindled itself in those onyx orbs. A fire that feeds off of determination and resolve to change things for the better. He had vowed long ago to make it so no soldier would have to follow such heinous orders as he had done in Ishbal. That fire had the identical effect as his cool eyes. It inspired others around him to do their best and to help him achieve his ambition.

And as Edward sits across from the Colonel, that trademark smirk cutting across his face, he believes that the ghosts in his eyes are simply Roy's determination shining through.
