Caleb was scared. He paced around in his and Willow's bedroom waiting for his wife to come out of the bathroom. For about four months now, the two of them had been trying to have a baby but so far, the pregnancy fairy wasn't giving them the results they wanted to hear. He wanted kids and so did Willow after Amity announced that she and Luz were having a baby. At first Caleb, wasn't so sure but the two of them soon agreed to it and began work. This was their third attempt and still, Caleb was frightened by what the results could be. If it was negative again, Caleb and Willow would have to go to the Healing Coven to find out which one wasn't healthy enough to have kids.
Willow exited the bathroom with the fairy in hand. "Okay, now we wait." Willow declared nervously. "Ten minutes, huh?"
"Yeah." Caleb responded awkwardly. "I'm just afraid."
"Caleb, so am I." Willow replied.
"What if you can't have a baby?" Caleb asked worryingly. "Or what if the reason why you can't get pregnant is because of my grimwalker DNA?! I mean, there isn't any information about reproducing on any of the books! I mean, what if I can't be a dad?! What if I can't be a better parent than Belos?! What if I-"
"Caleb!" Willow interjected. "Deep breaths!" Willow then breathed as she used her fingers to count to four. Caleb did what his wife was doing and quickly calmed down.
"Okay. Thanks." Caleb said. "I really needed that."
"Caleb, even if I'm not pregnant and even if I can't have kids, you'll still get your chance to be a dad." Willow assured her husband. "And if we can't have kids, there's always adoption. Or maybe we could have Boscha as a surrogate mother."
"Don't you hate Boscha?" Caleb asked.
"Watching her suffer through pregnancy will be very entertaining." Willow's little joke got Caleb to laugh.
"Or we could adopt." Caleb suggested.
"Yeah, adoptions good." Willow said. "Or, maybe you could be a sort of father figure to Luz and Amity's kid."
"Yeah. I think I'd be a cool uncle." Caleb playfully bragged before wrapping his arm around his wife. "Plus, you'd be an awesome aunt."
"Yeah, I'd be pretty awesome." Willow agreed. "But I can't do that without their awesome uncle."
"I did say I would be a cool uncle." Caleb pointed out.
"Cool uncle isn't really enough." Willow said. "Besides, you're my awesome husband, why can't you be an awesome uncle?"
"Because you're awesomer." Caleb responded flirtatiously.
"Thank you." Willow said before she and her husband shared a kiss. "But, you do realise awesomer isn't a word, right?"
Caleb just froze at what his wife said. "I don't have a flirtatious response to that."
Willow chuckled. "You'll get there."
About nine minutes later, Willow and Caleb stared at the fairy nervously, waiting for a response. For the last nine minutes, all the two of them could do was pace around the room while comforting each other. Trying to assure them that they'll get there.
They sat on their bed, watching the fairy continuing to analyse the DNA Willow had given it. It was almost time, for the results and their stomachs were turning. What if it was negative, again? Willow noticed that her husband was tapping his hands on his knee and gently took his hand while giving a reassuring smile.
"It's going to be okay." Willow assured him.
"I hope." Caleb replied.
But while giving each other warm smiles the fairy made a dinging noise. "PREGNANT! YOU'RE PREGNANT!" The fairy screamed in a high pitched and ear grating voice, causing the married couple to flinch and hold their chests. "YOU HAVE SOMEONE RESIDING IN YOUR BELLY! IT'S GOING TO BE PAINFUL AND EMOTIONAL!"
"Okay, thanks." Willow said.
"PLUS, YOUR FOOD STORAGE COULD BE LOW!"
"We get it!" Willow exclaimed.
"BUT I DID NOT GET TO THE BEST PART! FOR THE NEXT NINE MONTHS YOU WON'T BE HAVING ANY MORE OF THOSE-"
"I know how pregnancies work!" Willow interjected. "Just fly off!"
"Okay." The fairy said before flying out of the window.
Once the fairy was gone, Willow and Caleb soon smiled at each other. "Is it telling the truth?" Caleb asked.
"They're always 100% accurate." Willow assured him as tears fell from her face.
Caleb on the other hand was in disbelief at this news. "I'm going to be a dad! I can't believe it….I have no words!"
"Just say it's amazing Caleb. I know this is amazing, but let's try and remain calm about it." Willow said before squealing. "OMT! I'm going to be a mom!"
The two soon shared a kiss before hugging each other. But in that hug Caleb soon began to reflect on becoming a dad. Sure, he wanted it more than anything, but he soon began to think. "Yeah…..you are."
Later that night, they decided to hit the hay and get some sleep. They hadn't told anyone about Willow's pregnancy since they felt their actual reactions would be worth seeing. While Willow was of course sleeping, anticipating being a mom already, Caleb on the other hand, laid awake thinking about what he'll be.
Sure, he was thrilled about being a dad, but a part of him worried that due to his very traumatising upbringing and his nightmares would affect his child negatively.
He got out of bed, put on a gown and walked out of his room to think about it. But he wasn't as silent as he thought, because his wife felt he wasn't there and got out of bed to find him.
She quickly found him outside of their house, sitting on their bench, thinking about his current predicament. She had a feeling what he was thinking about but she knew she had to let him talk about it.
"Can I sit down?" Willow asked her husband.
Caleb gave her the nod to sit down which she did. "I've always wanted to be a dad, now that I'm getting the chance to be in nine months, I feel doubt."
"Why do you feel doubt?" Willow asked.
"Because of my upbringing." Caleb replied. "What if I do something that hurts them? Not just physically, but emotionally. What if I do something Belos would have done to me? Plus, don't get me started on my nightmares. I feared my uncle even when I tried to find something about him to love because he was family, I still feared him."
"You're worried that our child is going to be afraid of you?" Willow asked.
"You're going to be an awesome mom." Caleb said. "You're going to show a lot of love for them and they'll love you, but me, I might be someone they fear. I want to love them and I want them to love me, but with everything that is wrong about me, I think they will." It was at this point Caleb was crying. "I just don't want them to be scared of me."
Willow understood instantly what Caleb was saying. Sure becoming a parent was scary, but for Caleb, this was terrifying for him. She knew that she had to do something and did what her marital instinct told her, she gently hugged her husband as he crying in fear. "It's okay Caleb, it's okay to be afraid. I know you're afraid, I know you are. But I don't think you're going to be a great dad…." Caleb pulled out of his wife's hug and stared at her with a shocked look on his face. "…I know you're going to be a great dad. You know those things Belos have done to you is wrong and you know they're wrong, it already shows that you know some stuff about parenting. And about those nightmares, I don't know what we're going to do about them, but we made this marriage work even with your nightmares around. Right now Caleb, for the next nine months, I need you to be a bit brave for me…" she took his hand and placed it on her stomach. "…and our child. Think you can try that for me?" Willow wiped away her husband's tears with her hand.
Caleb stared at his wife thinking about the words she said and sighed. "Okay. I'll try."
"I know." Willow smiled lovingly at her husband.
The two soon gave each other a hug, giving some comfort to one another. He kissed the top of her head and smiled. "I love you so much."
"I love you too, Caleb."
"And I love you so much as well." Willow was at first confused as to who Caleb was saying that other 'I love you' to, but it became clear when she felt her husband rubbing her stomach.
She smiled and said, "Yeah, I love them too."
