Two Worlds, Two Souls
Chapter 21: Homeward Bound
Frisk's Point of View:
It wasn't the same without Papyrus or Sans around in our daily routine…
I missed my best friend that I could wake up to and play games with before he'd run out the door to patrol, dragging Sans out under his arm while Angel would teach me to keep me and herself busy when they were gone. It was hard not to notice them. Sans seemed to live for the chaos that his brother and I made. Angel was the same; they lived to take care of others. They didn't seem to like being alone. I could only imagine how this separating was hurting them.
We had been gone from the guys for about a week. That stupid guy from the royal guard had to come in and throw all of those who were helping us into a tizzy.
Angel had done so well too… we had friends in town! We were friends with Grillby and his family, with Maria, Milly and MK, and even Sans and Papyrus. That was so many more people than Toriel and I could have guessed we'd have in the beginning.
We only could guess back then that Sans would perhaps be one of the only friends we'd have after he'd been so friendly, even without knowing Angel was a human when she talked to him on the other side of the door. In the beginning, I didn't know if we'd ever make it very far, but we're slowly getting adjusted. People were slowly getting accustomed to seeing us in Snowdin, but not many new people seemed to approach us yet, much as I'd like that.
Being back with Toriel was nice, but it wasn't the same. I missed playing games with Papyrus, I missed playing jokes with Sans and hearing his puns…
But I also missed my sister smiling.
Since we had to come back, and not so much of our own free will, Angel was quiet. She didn't respond much unless Sans or Maria were calling her. Toriel and I tried to drag her off to do things together with us, but we could only distract her for so long. Her sleep wasn't very good some times. I'd wake up in the night to being alone in the bed and finding her out in the living room, watching the fire as if the world had stopped.
It wasn't easy for her. She'd gone from being such a busy body down to nearly doing nothing. It was really hard for her to change that, and I noticed her hands would twitch, needing something to do. She wasn't one to sit and do nothing.
About a day in, I decided to try and change that.
My sister had always loved to draw when we were younger. She always was making beautiful paintings and drawings for us to see. I remembered she loved landscapes and skies, as well as creatures the most. She always used to make the prettiest butterflies… I remembered she had taken many art classes in school and our parents always loved her work.
So, I started demanding her to draw again, just to take up her time and give her a release of some sort. She took to it quickly. Easily did I see drawing came back to her, because I wasn't sure when the last time she actually had a moment or two to do that was during our years on the run. Toriel and I were always running around to search for paper, but it made us breathe a bit easier since it kept my sister busy.
In the beginning, my sister had started out with the grand doors to the ruins, trying to get her hand back into the drawing business. However, halfway through it she stopped. She needed a change of pace, so I demanded she made a picture of Sans or Papyrus, the two people we had wanted to see so much in those moments.
And damn didn't Angel do a great job.
Starting with Papyrus, she drew him in a monochromatic way, black and white scale as she said, with only warm colors to go with it. She had to explain to me that warm colors were yellow, orange and red, since I wasn't very good at remembering those things. She said she would do Sans in 'cool' colors, green, blue and purple.
Using those shades, she drew out the younger skeleton's appearance while he seemed deep in concentration on a junior jumble puzzle. A pencil was to the side of his chin, while the paper was slightly crumpled under the strength of his hand, still covered in those red gloves of his. In his concentration, I could see that she'd drawn the scarf somewhat wrapped around his jaw and his eyes were glowing that bright orangey color. It was more of a yellow-ish orange glow to them, which made his gloves and scarf appear darker then they normally were in the light of the picture. Papyrus had a look that told me he was contemplating, but determined to finish the puzzle.
Sans on the other hand she'd drawn in much darker colors, the blues and purples stood out the most while hints of green were drawn into his shorts to give more attention to him in the dark background. I saw Sans with his signature grin, but there was something else to it that perhaps only those who knew him better could tell the difference. His stance seemed protective. He appeared to be blocking something from view in the picture while his eye glowed blue. Shades of indigo and purple were in the under layers of color while a single hand was held before him, ready to use his magic to attack or defend.
Sis always could understand him on another level then Papyrus or I could. Sans was a funny person, that much had never changed, and he was as lazy as sloth. But underneath all that quietness was something that seemed to be hidden away, and Angel seemed to sense it more than anyone else and knew what to say or do for him, even in only a few months of friendship.
It was almost creepy how well the two got along in some cases.
Maybe it had something to do with his dad's death? I know that the death of our parents messed up Angel and I pretty bad…
But doing those two images were enough to send Angel into a spiral of endless drawing to keep herself busy when she wasn't reading more books about monster history. Any moment she had that wasn't with a pen or pencil in her hand was rare as the days passed by and Toriel and I watched her intently as she did page after page of artwork.
When she finally got out of her funk and was busy like a bee did I dare to leave my sister with Toriel and hurry off to call Papyrus to try and plan for my sister's birthday. Trying to find her a gift while we've been in hiding in late October was hard, I had to rely on the brothers quite a bit more then I think my sister would have liked to know…
"Hello? This is the Great Papyrus!"
"Papy!" I giggled as I heard his voice. It was always so happy to hear him when I couldn't just jump on is shoulder and let him drag me around like a rag doll.
Damn, didn't I miss that…
"Little F- I mean, Little Sitka! How are you?"
Sitka? He's using my font name… he must be in outside of Snowdin…
"I'm good! I'm hoping that Ravie will let us go home soon."
"I hope so as well! I miss our gaming bouts. Oh! And isn't it Miss Ravie's birthday in the next couple of days?"
"Yeah, I need yours and Sans' help with a gift. I think I know what she'd really like… if I could have your help?"
"Of course, Little Sitka! What exactly is that you're looking for?"
"Well…"
Angel's Point of View:
It had been nearly a week since we had been rushed out to Toriel's to stay safe while the royal guardsman was in town. Vincent, or Vinnie as he was called by many of the local residence, the eldest son of Bernie and someone that Sans was not expecting, which is why he was so riled up the night he brought us back to the ruins.
Sans certainly was the type to know about ninety-five percent of what was going on and knew the patterns of people. The way they traveled, the way they moved. Sans was good at noticing at how people spent their routines and wasn't expecting Vinnie to come home for another two months, just prior to Christmas.
From what Sans had told me, of after we'd been safely tucked away with Toriel, was that a tip had been given to him about a couple of humans in town. So, Vinnie hurried home to check on his family. No one was aware of who told him, for all we had known, it could have been one of his siblings. However, Vinnie stuck around for a bit longer until Captain Undyne commanded that he return to the capitol to resume his duties. He had only left a minute or so prior to the last time Sans had contacted me.
That was the night before.
Sans had sounded much more at ease once Vinnie had left. Bernie apparently had to kick him out as well from the shouting I could hear over the phone while Sans was in the alleyway nearby. I couldn't hear much of the conversation, but Bernie didn't appear impressed with whatever was going on at the time.
When I had the chance… I'd have to thank her for not ratting us out to her son…
Sans had given us the a-okay to return to Snowdin once enough time had passed that we knew Vinnie wasn't coming back so soon. For our return, Sans was taking us out to Grillby's for dinner, and even had convinced Papyrus to go as well. I wasn't sure what he did to manage that, but I was happy that we'd all be together again soon enough.
Frisk had run off to do some exploring in the tunnels while I sat with Toriel. She happily read a joke book by the fire while I was elbow deep into a drawing I was putting together.
Frisk had revived my love of artwork while I wasn't doing so well trapped away again in the ruins. I felt such disappointment as if all the work that we'd done had been for nothing. I hated how we were ripped so quickly away from Papyrus and Sans that I could feel my soul tremble in my chest from it. So, in order to distract myself, she shoved paper and pencils at me and said: "draw!"
Not truly trusting my mind in those moments, I agreed and followed her instructions. Two beautiful portraits of Sans and Papyrus came out that seemed to gather their personalities. Papyrus was always eager, always ready to please, but determined as well to do what he thought was right. Sans was the opposite. He chose his friends carefully and defended those that truly mattered to him without an ounce of hesitation. Even while being so close, the brother were incredibly different.
And once I'd finished those drawings, inspiration just seemed to flow from me once I had the chance.
Toriel sometimes watched on in fascination as art just seemed to pour out of me through my hand. Sketches of those in town that had made a difference in our lives, fitting into most of my papers while landscapes were the second best. The beautiful cavern of Snowdin's mountain terrain once we walked out of the ruins were one of my first ones I had to draw down besides the first time I'd walked through Snowdin's streets and saw their town's center tree.
I was eager to see other sights and draw them…
Ringing cut me in the middle of shading another piece I was working on. I lifted my stained fingers to see the caller was the skeleton in blue. Toriel snickered from behind the bind of her book while I pouted at her.
I quickly answered the phone, ignoring Toriel as she left to another room. "Hey Darling."
"Yo, Precious. Hope you're not gettin' too bonely."
I held back a giggle, pressing my wrist to my lips instead of my hand that was greyer then it was tan at that moment. "I can hardly get a moment to be alone with a sister like Frisk."
"Okay, fair point." The skeleton sighed from the other end of the line. I couldn't tell how he was feeling so far away, but I knew that we both were eager for things to go back to the way they were. "So, the plan is ta grab ya guys in about an hour or so. Pap is just finishin' up his shift and then I'll come get ya and the kiddo."
"Sounds good, I'll finish getting things packed then and get cleaned up."
"Clean up? What'd ya do? Didn't think ya'd ruin yourself that badly."
"Ha, ha." I replied dryly. "No… I'm actually covered in pencil lead right now. I've been drawing all afternoon. Trying to keep myself busy until we can go back home with you guys."
"Ah… Pap had mentioned Frisk sayin' somethin' 'bout that. Apparently, yer really good."
"She would think so, she's trying to butter me up so I won't get mad and punish her."
"Figures." Sans yawned before I heard him sit down somewhere. "If yer work's anythin' like yer cookin', we're in for a real treat."
"Sans!" A snort flew out of me at the mention of his joke.
"Alright, I'll let ya go do your thin'." He chuckled from the other side. "See ya soon, Precious."
"Bye, Darling." I felt warmth spread through my chest when he hung up with me, still trying to hold back the laugh at his jokes while enjoying the feeling of him checking in on me.
God… if I didn't know any better, I'd almost sound like a love sick high school girl…
But I knew that wasn't the case. I cared about Sans, a lot… but it was only because he and I were similar and such good friends.
That's all it was.
I sighed before I looked back to the drawing I wanted to finish up before I went to pack. Milly was the subject of my paper at the moment. The cute little bear was reaching toward the sky as snowflakes seemed to dance around her. One strategically placed one landed on the top of her coal colored nose. Her expression was bright, the only color to the picture (since I had to be careful with my color, I didn't have much at Toriel's) was her eyes. Their beautiful caramel color that felt so warm compared to the wintery landscape she stood within.
With the last of the shadings done, I carefully set her piece among the others I'd done to dry. I would spray them later to keep the lead from smudging with some hairspray before adding it with the others.
All that was left was to clean up and pack.
Frisk's Point of View:
I helped my sister carefully get her artwork into a special bag to keep it from getting ruined before we added it to her larger bag strung over her shoulder. Once it was snugly in place, we turned to face the woman who was always like a mother to us and kept us safe.
"I'm so glad I got to spend some time with you, my children." Toriel smiled before she pulled us into her arms, hugging us close to her. "Now, I believe Sans is waiting for you?"
"Yep, he's outside, waiting for his precious."
An ugly red made it onto my sister's face, one that she tried to keep back with the cold look she gave me. "Frisk…"
"Eep!" I leapt away from her, using Toriel as a shield when she tried to grab at me.
"Girls!" Toriel sighed, a hand held to her face while she tried to keep herself from laughing. "Now be good, and know that you two can always come back if and when you need to."
"Thank you, Tori." My sister softened her look at the goat woman. "We really appreciate that you let us stay with you while we hid out from that guardsman…"
"Oh, any chance to see you two is something I'll take. I'm just glad you weren't hurt…" Toriel smiled before she pulled out a small gift that she handed to my sister that was decorated in silver wrapping paper and a golden bow. "Happy birthday, dear Angel."
"Wha-" My sister gasped and whipped around to me in an instant. "It isn't… is it?"
"October thirty-first!" I giggled at her from behind Tori, though not hiding as I was before with her stunned. "Happy birthday Sis!"
"Oh my-!" My sister couldn't seem to get her words out from the way she was stuttering. "Did you plan this?!"
"Maybe…" My laughter was infectious, as Toriel seemed to join me as well. "You really forgot! Wait until Sans hears this!"
"Oh hush!" My sister snarled before she sucked in a deep breath and took the gift gently from Toriel. "Would you like me to open it now?"
"No, go open it with your friends." Toriel quickly hugged her before she waved her toward the door in a shooing motion. "Their waiting for you after all."
"Wait…" My sister narrowed her eyes at me just as Toriel took the hint to open the doors for us. "What did you do?"
"I didn't do anything~" I slowly backed away just as I heard the mechanisms work to allow us into the snowy landscape of Snowdin's region. "But you might have to ask Sans and Papyrus!"
"Frisk!" I took that moment to dart out the door before she could grab me or use her magic. I squeezed through the crack of the door and instantly saw our teleporting friend standing there with quite the happy smile on his face.
"Sans!" I hurried toward him, keeping out of the reach of my sister while diving at the skeleton who acted like a brother to me. "Save me!"
"Heya Kiddo-whoa!" I crashed into his ribs before sliding under his jacket and hiding from my sister as she approached. "What's the-"
Then he stopped. Sans' eye lights caught movement before us and there stood my sister who scowled at me, but her expression instantly softened when she saw him. The two of them were stunned for the longest moment until the doors to the ruins slammed shut behind us and startled the two of them. My sister sighed; pocketing the present she was given before turning to face her beloved skeleton.
"Heya Precious, ice ta see ya."
"Hello Darling, I hope you weren't too bonely without us."
My mouth fell and I gapped at my sister, surprised at her quick comeback with a pun. Her time with Sans was definitely rubbing off on her… she was getting better with being witty with her responses.
"Ha!" Sans laughed at her comment. It took him a few moments to calm himself before he opened his arms wide for her. "It's great ta see ya, Angel."
My sister smiled at him, trying to keep herself from tearing up. "I missed you too."
She hurried over to him, hugging him tightly to herself while he did the same. Sans may have not always been the most open about everything, but he certainly seemed to let his guard down with my sister. The two clung to each other like lifelines, almost forgetting that I was here as well, peaking out from under the edge of Sans' jacket. I quickly removed myself from my hiding spot while the two of them had their moment before an evil thought passed my mind.
I carefully stepped back to the oblivious two while I bent down to get some freshly fallen snow in my hands. I carefully packed it down into a compact ball before pulling back my arm to hurl it at the two of them. Just as the snow made it over my head to my arms suddenly stop in its tracks and I felt the snow fall down my conveniently opened jacket onto my bare neck.
"Cold!" I shirked while I tried to pull it out.
My sister and Sans laughed before pulling apart, Sans making a tsk-like sound and waving his finger in disapproval.
"Come Kiddo, ya know that trick only works once."
I pouted at him, the two of them had ganged up on me. Sans to stop my movement and Angel to shove snow down my shirt with her chains that made it fall from my hands.
My sister rolled her eyes at me before taking Sans' hand to teleport back to town. "Oh hush Frisk, let's get back to Snowdin so you can be with Papyrus and think up some way to get back at us."
"Papy!" I squealed in delight before latching onto our friend in blue, eager to see my friend in red. "I wanna see him! Teleport! Teleport! Teleport!"
"Yeesh, Kiddo, easy there." Sans struggled somewhat under my strength as I latched on his other arm that my sister wasn't on. "Alright, we're goin'."
In that same moment, I felt that funny feeling whenever Sans teleported us. It left quite the hazy feeling through my body, fuzzy like. It also gave me a slight headache whenever we did that kind of travel. It hardly bothered Sans, but that was probably because he'd been doing that since he was little.
We landed right outside the entrance to Grillby's when my head wasn't spinning so much. Sans helped the two of us stay standing until it faded and we were able to move on our own. I released him within moments and darted inside the door, ignoring the call of my sister from behind me.
Upon entering the small restaurant, I quickly saw that the location was closed off for all, with the exception for those there for Angel's birthday party that the skeleton brothers had thrown together. The tall skeleton I was looking for was toward the back, sitting at a table right before the bar where Grillby stood with his wife at his side, thankfully not ill.
"PAPY!" The few friends and families that were around moved out of the way as I barreled toward my best friend. I saw Papyrus turn to see me only for a moment before a high pitched squeal left his mouth.
"LITTLE FRISK!" Papyrus opened his arms just in time for me to leap into them. He held me tightly to him, even while he stood and stumbled around the tables. "Oh, the Great Papyrus is relieved to see you once more! I missed my best friend…"
"I missed you too, Papy…" My voice might have been muffled a bit by his scarf, but I was too happy to care.
"It's so good to see you, little one." I lifted my head just enough to see the older fire woman with her daughter in her arms. The rich green color of Sarada's fire was beautiful against the snowy colored dress she wore that night. "I hope things are well for you."
"Yes Sara!" I giggled at her while still hugging Papyrus.
"You must be hungry, Little Frisk!" Papyrus pulled me back in order to set me down on the ground. "Grillby is pulling out many dishes shortly, we are very excited to feast together with you and your sister on her birthday! We almost didn't get to if it hadn't been for Bernie…"
"Truly?" I looked back to see Angel and Sans join us at the table that had been held for us at the back. Only our closest friends seemed to be in the bar tonight, including the inn keeper herself, Maria and her youngest two children, as well as Grillby's family.
A small gathering of eleven… that was nearly how many friends we'd made in the underground.
"Sorry 'bout Vinnie. His heart was in the right place, but there was nothin' for him to worry about." Bernie sighed as she sat at the counter, sucking on a lollipop in her mouth. She pulled it out briefly as she talked to us. "You won't be seeing him much again until Christmas. He takes a break to come home, so you've got some more time. You're trying to be friends with everyone in the underground right?"
"Yes…" my sister answered hesitantly.
"Perhaps around that time, you should meet him."
Everyone seemed to flinch as they looked at the rabbit woman. No one was quite so stunned as Sans as his eye turned blue instantly.
"Are ya out of your fuckin' mind-"
"Oh cool it Sans," Bernie clicked her lounge back angrily. "It was just a suggestion. Besides, that boy of mine will listen if I'm involved. I thought it would be good to have him in on it since being a royal guardsman, it would be a good test, and a great way to start getting' the other guards to not hunt them as well. Vinnie knows a lot of people from his station in Hotland and the capital. Be good to get more people on your side then just the folks of Snowdin."
"Still-"
"Sans, hold off for a second." My sister placed a hand on his arm, watching his face as he looked back to her in slight irritation before trying his damndest to calm down. "I'm not going to agree instantly… but let me think about it."
"Miss Angel?!" Papyrus gasped from beside me.
"Everything we've done has been a risk so far. Being friends with everyone and giving everyone a chance… I've been lucky." She turned her head back to Bernie, looking on with eyes that seemed to be under the weight of the world. "I'm still nervous, but I'll think about it. He'll be back within a month and a half, that's just about the same amount of time it took me just to be close to those we have here now."
"That's fine, thinking about it will be a good idea. And I'll call him here and there to tell him about all the goodies you've been givin' me and the family." She winked at me. "Loved the pie, by the way."
"Speaking of food, we have the meals now!" Sarada was quick to intrude among the atmosphere to change things up from worried and gloomy back to happy.
It was my sister's birthday after all…
"Yes, we can think about these things another day, now is the time to celebrate!" Papyrus cheered before patting his brother's shoulder. "Right, Brother?"
"Eh… I guess out-matched."
And that caused the entire room to either erupt in groans of displeasure or squeals of glee. Sans chuckled at the responses while Papyrus scowled and pulled away, huffing as he sat at the counter and brining me with him. I tried to hide my chuckles in his scarf as I hugged him.
"Come on Pap, where the fire?"
Angel had to hold onto Sans while others set about in different locations among the restaurant to prepare for the meal or to keep themselves from falling over. Sans seemed in a slightly better mood from the crowd, but I had a funny feeling that he wasn't ready to drop the subject of Vinnie.
He only would for now, since it was Angel's birthday.
Once we had all calmed down, we were moved to the table before Grillby's bar where plates of our favorites were laid out and even the husband and wife duet ate with us while their little girl ran about the tables, hoping to play a bit with some of the other kids here. I normally would have gone off and played with her, but I was eager to see Angel opening her gifts.
"Oh Miss Angel! The Great Papyrus and Sans got you a cake!" All attention was brought back to the birthday girl as she blushed and a large, two layered cake was set before her. It was covered in a frosting that looked to be rather thin, and I could see flecks of a dark orange from below it.
"Oh… that's so sweet." Angel looked over to the brothers with a smile she was trying to hide behind her hand. "You didn't have to do that… just being with everyone is more than enough."
But I knew differently. My sister hadn't had a chance to celebrate her birthday since before our parents died. Her last birthday she got to have any party for or any celebration was when she turned fifteen. After that, she never let me miss out on my birthday, but hers was forgotten. For years I always wanted to do something for her, but being so young and always by her side prevented me from doing that.
Now I had a chance to start making up for that.
"But Miss Angel, it's your birthday! You deserve to have something like this! Anyone should!" Papyrus wouldn't take no for an answer as he sat down next to her. I crawled up into his lap as my sister was sat before the cake and Grillby lit the candles that had been poked into them. Sans was beside my sister, sucking slowly on a ketchup bottle that Grillby passed him earlier.
"And we will sing 'happy birthday' to you!"
Angel giggled as she sat among our friends while they all sung the song very terribly, but that hardly mattered to my beloved sister. She tried to suppress the tears that streamed from her eyes in happiness as she was told to blow out the twenty candles on her cake.
Angel was now twenty years old…
Wow that sounded so weird…
"Cake and then presents!" I cheered as Sans took it upon himself to start cutting the cake and passed the first slice to Angel. My sister eagerly looked at it as did I from over in Papyrus' lap. It smelled really yummy.
"We tried to make a different kind of flavor for you Angel." Sarada noted as she assisted with passing out the cake. "Grillby and I managed to get our hands on some pumpkins and made a cake out of that for you with cream cheese frosting. I hope you like it."
"Any cake sounds amazing right now, but I love pumpkin, I'm eager to taste it!" My sister for once almost seemed to show characteristics of myself as she took a bite of the pumpkin cake. She was normally really good with holding herself back, but pumpkin and lemon were two flavors she couldn't get enough of sometimes. She had to really change a lot once she was taking care of me back when we first were out on our own. She was fifteen and I was only eight. I couldn't believe how it had been nearly five years since we'd left…
I shook my head from the memories before I dived into my own cake. I didn't want to remember those old times…
My taste buds nearly lit up once I had that initial taste. Spices and sweet caused me to squeal before I raced to inhale, much like I did with all other sweet treats.
"Little Frisk! Don't eat it so fast! You'll choke!"
I swallowed hard, quickly reached for my soda glass Grillby had left me and drank. A large bubble of carbonation lodged in my throat and I had struggled to swallow it before a burp came out of me and everything flowed normally again.
Angel scowled at me, not approving of the behavior.
"Excuse me…"
At least she stopped glaring after that.
"Now you should open your presents!" Papyrus was quick to bring over the few boxes that had been set behind the counter for my sister. She gasped at them all and I hurried over to grab the last present that Toriel had packed away for us in her back.
"There's so many…!" My sister gasped as she looked about the three boxes in shock. There also was a envelop that was among them as well. She turned back to face us. "Whoever got me gifts really didn't have to…"
"But we wanted to, Miss Angel!" Papyrus quickly reached over and swiped up the envelop that was on the table. "Yet this one must be last! It is special! At least, that's what Little Frisk told me."
"Well Angel," Sans gestured to the presents before my sister. "Which one ya wanna start with?"
"Oh! Start with your friend's first, Miss Angel." Papyrus quickly put Toriel's gift to the front. "The gift from my brother and I both go together with what Little Frisk requested we get for you!"
That made Angel frown. "I hope you two didn't spend a lot of money on this…"
"Nah, Frisk's actually was something we built." Sans shrugged as he drank his ketchup. "We didn't spend a lot of money on it. So don't worry, Precious."
"That… actually has me more worried now." My sister sighed before she reached forward to grab at the present Toriel gave us. We already knew that whatever it was that she got for Angel wouldn't be expensive since the goat woman didn't have a lot of money. Least, not that we knew of. She also didn't go out of the ruins often, so it didn't seem like it would.
Angel then opened the silver-colored box and gasped when she looked inside. Before anyone could question her, Angel pulled out a necklace that was on a thin silver chain that seemed to have a pendant attached that was all silver, thought there appeared to be a lock on the side.
"Try opening it, Sis!" My sister smiled at my eagerness and nodded, easily unlocking the clasp before something glittered brightly from within the silver. My sister gasped as a bright cool white light glittered from the necklace and brightened up every corner of the room.
"Oh my goodness!" Maria was the first to shield her eyes from the brightness. "Grillby! Could we get the lights for a moment?"
And instantly the lights were gone from above our heads to see the shimmering stone that glittered with every tiny movement my sister hand with it within her hand. Upon closer inspection, the stone had been cut a lot of times, maybe somewhere close to a hundred? It was hard to tell. Looking at all the glittering edges was hard, but it was still really pretty.
My sister looked up at the ceiling to see the glittering light and how it seemed to brighten every edge of the room we sat in. They glittered like stars on the boards above and she was hypnotized by the way they moved.
"Hey Angel, ya mind not burnin' out our eyes here?" Sans chuckled while my sister raced to close the necklace she was given. The room suddenly turned pitch black with the exception of some light from Grillby and his family. Being people made of fire, they always put out some light.
"Sorry… it was just so beautiful…" My sister held the piece in her hands before she turned it over and saw an inscription on the back. "Hoping that this will light your way. With love, Tori."
"That is a very nifty tool to use, especially in some of the darker caverns you'd find in Waterfall and Hotland," Sans noted as he looked over the piece. "Waterfall's got a lot of those caverns that are quite dark without the light of crystals or some of the plants that glow there too."
"But now you can open the gifts belonging to the Great Papyrus and his brother!" Two more gifts were quickly set before my sister and she raced to pull the necklace over her head before carefully opening the next two boxes.
My sister was at least mildly stunned as she quickly saw the set of paint brushes sitting inside the longer box from Sans and a variety of paints from Papyrus. Both brothers looked on eagerly while she seemed stunned from the gifts.
"And here is the last one from your sister!" Papyrus then placed the envelop he'd snatched earlier before my sister. "And perhaps you'll do something to commemorate getting these things!"
"What?" My sister blinked before she quickly opened up the little packet she was given and pulled out just a simple picture that sat inside. A picture of a homemade, wooden easel. She gasped as she saw it before she looked up to us in tears, though she tried to narrow her eyes at me. "You told them about me painting before, didn't you?"
"I remembered all the paintings you did for Mom and Dad." I giggled at her reaction to the items. "Now you can do it again! Sans and Papy got you paper at home, and I think some… canvases? Is that the right word? But we also got you the paint here and the brushes so you can do it again! Your work is so good Angel!"
My sister rolled her eyes. "It's nothing more the rough drawings."
"Then you won't mind if the others judge then?"
"Frisk!?" My sister tried to leap at me as I hurried to her bag and pulled out the drawings she'd made while we were back at Toriel's. On top was the one of Milly that she'd done, before a few landscapes, Papyrus, and last Sans.
"Oh my, is that my Milly?" Maria gasped.
"I recognize this from the trails…" Grillby noted as he looked through some of the pictures.
"Sans! Brother! Look!" Papyrus gushed as he held the two of them. "Angel made us look so cool in these!"
The response of the older brother was only that of a long whistle. He looked on at the drawings in amazement, as did most of the people in the bar. I giggled while all of them were amazed at what they saw.
"Oh Angel… I hate to ask you, but could I have this beautiful picture of Milly?" Maria couldn't seem like she could remove her eyes from the picture. "I'd love to frame it! I've never seen something so detailed of my little girl…"
My sister was stunned by their acceptance. "R-really?"
"I would like to have the ones of Sans and I too!" Papyrus chimed in. "We could have these in the house! They are so cool! Don't you think so, Brother?"
"Definitely the one of ya, Bro." Sans chuckled as he looked through them. "Doesn't look like Frisk was jokin' about yer skill. Ya might even be able ta make money off of these."
"Well, if I do, I'll need to get them sealed and framed first. I'd hate for them to lose any of their image from smudging from too many hands holding them." My sister sighed, but the smile that ghosted onto her face showed unmistakably that she was pleased with the way everyone looked at her work. "Let me get them touched up before I give them out or frame them. I'll need to get my hands on some more wood… and glass… and some hair spray…"
"Hair spray?" Bernie questioned. "What's that for?"
"To keep the pictures from smudging."
Everyone had so many questions for my sister, such as how she knew all these things about art and how to keep things clean. My sister was eager to answer, enjoying her day with everyone as we celebrated.
It was so great to see her with so many friends. I was eagerly to see if this pipe dream of my sister's, being able to befriend most people in the underground to keep us alive down here with a new life, was possible.
Witch's Note:
Hey everyone! Sorry about the wait on the chapter. Unfortunately, I had a bad spell of health that put me in the hospital for a short while. I do still have some medical problems going on, but I'm on the mend and getting help! Hopefully this will be the only time that this will happen. Mystic Girl was quite scared for me for a bit, but thankfully all is well right now.
But that was a wonderful chapter, wasn't it? We got the girls home and Angel's even thinking about meeting one of the royal guard? Oh my lord, what is she thinking?
And now a few words to our reviewers!
ShunGod: Glad to hear it! Hope we can keep doing the same thing every week! Should I ask you the same question another time?
RoseCentury: There really is no way to save your fingers from their little toophies, is there? Good luck keeping safe.
Aquarion: Lovely to meet you! Hope your enjoying our story! And I'm glad you love all of the characters. Don't be afraid to comment more in the future!
LampKing: Oh my goodness! Thank you for pointing that error out in the earlier chapters! It must have been missed by both of us! I'll get right on that in a bit. Just need a small bit of rest before I tackle that, but thank you again! And welcome to the story! Hope you're enjoying it!
Thank you all for being so patient and thanks for sticking around with this story! See you all next week and we'd love to hear your words in reviews! Even if its questions or criticism!
