Two Worlds, Two Souls
Chapter 22: Bloody Beginnings
Angel's Point of View:
I hesitated as I looked about the painting I had been working on for the last few hours. Since we had returned to living with the skeleton brothers, I'd spent much of my time (that wasn't with teaching Frisk or Papyrus, or spending time with any of the three of them) working on painting or drawing. Many of our friends who saw my work that night that we'd come home for my birthday were very eager to pay for my services. Pay. I couldn't believe it. Art had always been a pass time of mine, just something that I loved to do. I never through it was something that I could do as a job or a way of earning money, but with so much interest, I figured I could do it.
The requests had been steady. Maria wanted the drawing of Milly, which she refused to accept without giving me some form of payment, but then asked if I could do one of MK or her other son I'd seen a time or two. Will had been his name. He was a teen, and tended not to spend much time with me or my friends due to his dislike of Papyrus' personality.
I already didn't care for him, but a request for money was still a request I would honor. Especially if it meant I could pay back Sans and Papyrus even remotely for all that they'd done.
Others had asked for similar things. Sarada had asked for a family portrait. She was planning to let me know in the coming future about more details since it was supposed to be a surprise for her husband and daughter. Bernie had actually wanted one of her son in his armor along with all of his co-workers in the royal guard. I was surprised by this one, but it gave me an idea of who to look out for if I ever traveled to other locations or royal guard members came to Snowdin again.
I had avoided that talk with Sans for a while now. I didn't want to agitate him if he was angry that I'd listened even partly to Bernie about meeting her son.
The painting I was on now was actually for Bernie. She had come to me with a picture of all the royal guard members that apparently Vinnie had sent home, all in their respective armor. Their captain was at the front, the only female from what I could see, while the other ten or so members stood at attention behind her.
Captain Undyne's appearance both surprised me as well as it didn't. She was a woman with fish attributes about her, rich cerulean colored scales seemed to cover her body while a bright eye of intense gold seemed to glare back at the any who opposed her. The second eye was covered by a patch, so I could only assume she lost her left one at some point or another. She appeared to be a strong woman; however, her body didn't seem as bulky as I was anticipating. My overall image was some overly muscular woman instead of what I saw.
Granted, I wasn't going to lie and say she didn't scare me, because she sure as hell did.
The members of the royal guard seemed to be quite diverse. Undyne seemed to be the only one who seemed relatable to fish. Vinnie of course was rabbit like and the other guard members were quite different as well. I could see a snake, a dragon, an owl, a dog, a squid… it was unbelievable what I was seeing.
I set down my brushes in the jar of water I had next to me before standing to stretch. The painting I'd been working on had taken a lot more time then I'd estimated. I had hoped to be at the markets long before the time I'd stopped.
Sans was relaxing on the couch, watching TV with Papyrus. At my movement, he cast his eye lights over at me in question.
"Finally get tired of paintin', Precious?"
"No... I've been meaning to go to the markets for a while now to pick up some groceries for tonight." I sighed, stretching to loosen the muscles that were tight in my back from being hunched over. I blinked before glancing upstairs, still not seeing my sister much before the hour of eleven in the morning. "Frisk still isn't up?"
"No, it appears that she wishes to sleep in until the afternoon today..." Papyrus pouted as his best friend wasn't by his side on his one rare day off.
However, that wasn't exactly fair to my sister. She and him had stayed up late the night before until nearly three in the morning. Sans and I had long prior gone to bed, but the two of them stayed up far too long. Frisk was making up for the sleep she'd lost out on from staying up another four hours past when she normally would sleep. Due to that, we probably wouldn't see her much before one in the afternoon.
She always desperately needed her sleep more than anything else...
"Well you did stay up very late," I reminded the skeleton. "You know Frisk doesn't do well with little sleep."
"I know... but I'm fine! The Great Papyrus only had four hours!"
I shook my head at him, sighing in exasperation. "Sweetheart, everyone is different. Frisk would be ready to hurt some people with that amount of sleep. You've seen her with no sleep before, and how well did you survive that morning?"
Papyrus flinched at the memory when my sister went on an exhausted rampage and trashed his bed, ripping up sheets before I took her back to my own room to rest for another few hours. She was not happy that day...
"So, what's the plan for dinner tonight, Angel?' Sans quickly tried to change the conversation as soon as Papyrus looked uncomfortable.
"Well, I'd like to do something a bit more on the simple side. Especially since Frisk won't be up much before dinner's even ready. So, I was thinking more of a stew and biscuit night for us all. So, I was going to get some vegetables and meat for that, as well as the items to make some biscuits from scratch. I haven't made it in years, and if my sister is still hungry, she can go for some leftovers."
"A stew?" Papyrus questioned. "Is it anything like what Grillby makes when your ill?"
"I guess you'll just have to help me and find out." I winked at him while the younger male's eye lights glowed in joy, having a light orange colored hue to them. "I'll go buy what I need and then you can help me right after lunch, okay?"
"Oh, that sounds fun!" Papyrus cheered. "I'll get to learn a new type of food to cook!"
"And you'll learn how to bake as well."
"Here Angel." I looked to the older brother as he handed me a stack of bills. "This should be enough for everythin'. Call me if it isn't and I'll bring ya some more."
"Thanks Sans..." I sighed and took the money from him. "Hopefully I can get money from my paintings and pay you back."
The skeleton frowned at that. "I ain't worried 'bout that. Ya just do what ya gotta for Frisk and yerself."
I scowled at him. Lowering myself to his level on the couch, I poked his ribs. "I am paying you back. No ifs, ands, ors or buts."
"Money is not a problem, Miss Angel." Papyrus chimed in at our quarrel. "We will have even more when I become an adult and are sworn into the guard in a few months. Right now, any work I do is more of a community service, though I feel as though Undyne probably adds it to Sans' salary to make up for all the hours I do..."
I shook my head at them. "I'm not going to free load off of you two for the rest of my life. That's not right."
"And I'm tellin' ya it ain't a problem." Sans sighed and leaned back on the couch, waving me off. "Don't worry 'bout it."
As much as I wanted to fight Sans tooth and nail about it, he wouldn't listen to me. Once money started to come in, I'd have to pay him back another way... and be very sneaky about it.
I sighed and stepped back, letting Sans have this one. His sockets eased up out of their angered frown and he relaxed again, happy that I'd given up on the argument...
For now...
"Alright, I'm heading out." I pulled on my warmer clothing while Sans and Papyrus continued to watch Mettaton on the couch, content to laze the day away until Frisk awoke. "I have my cell phone in case of anything you guys."
"Good bye, Miss Angel!"
"See ya."
Papyrus' Point of View:
Miss Angel had left only for ten minutes before my brother and I heard movement from upstairs. Glancing up to where their room was, I could see Little Frisk emerge from Father's room, which the girls were using as their own as they lived with my brother and I.
"Little Frisk!" I cheered as I saw her wake, much sooner than anyone had guessed.
I saw the young human female glance at me for only a moment before she turned away and shuffled to the bathroom just past Sans' door. She didn't say a word, but I could vaguely hear her mumbling.
She must not have truly woken yet.
"Meh, give her a few minutes Pap." Sans shrugged from his spot next to me. My brother had a book in hand, ones of science and stuff that he really enjoyed. I never really understood what it was or what he liked about it, but Angel always had to remind me that everyone likes different things.
"Oh fine..." I pouted, crossing my arms in retaliation. "But I don't have to be happy about it..."
"That's fine, Bro." Sans shrugged before settling back into his book while I continued to watch my favorite show of Mettaton. She was always so fabulous with her amazing shows. I enjoyed watching her quite a bit, even if no one else seemed to share that same feeling... Even Sans didn't seem to care much.
But that was okay, even if Sans didn't like Mettaton, I could still like her. He never said it was a bad thing to do.
However, our comfort in silence was rudely interrupted.
At the soul shattering scream that came from the floor above, it startled me so much I leapt into Sans' arms. He held me for only a moment before we were teleported to the second floor, right before the bathroom that Frisk had gone into just a few minutes prior.
Frisk was crying on the other side. I didn't know what happened to my friend in the short time since she woke, but I'd never heard her crying like that. Sans was quick to release me as he tried the door first.
"Frisk?!" Sans raced to grab the doorknob, only to find it locked. My brother quickly tried to shove open the door while the girl screeched out from inside.
"Don't come in!" That caused my brother and I to freeze in place while she sobbed out her little soul from inside the small room. "I want my sister! Get me my sister! No!"
We could hear her grabbing at something from inside the room. It sounded like she was reaching for toilet paper from the sound of the holder squeaking from in the wall.
"Why won't it stop!?"
"Frisk!" Sans knocked on the door this time instead of going for the doorknob. I hesitantly hovered behind him, unsure of what to do. "Talk to us, Kiddo. What's goin' on?"
"It won't stop!" Her shrieks were defending, only the door protecting us from her shrills. "I'm bleeding!"
"Bleeding?!" I gasped and shook Sans' shoulders. "We need to get in there and heal her! Move, Brother!"
"Hold on Pap!" I felt my soul be grabbed by my brother and I was forced to bend to his will. I was turned to face him while his single hand was out, his eye glowing as he used his magic.
I couldn't remember the last time he'd used his magic on me...
"Frisk... where are ya bleedin' from?"
Soft whimpering could be heard, but our friend refused to respond.
My brother released me from his hold now that I had calmed myself. Young Frisk was no longer wailing like she had been before, in fact, she was too quiet...
"Little Frisk?" I tried to knock on the door myself.
"Oh shit..." I turned to my brother as I saw his sockets trail back to the room where Little Frisk had come from. Small beads of red seemed to be on the floor and a large stained spot of more red (which I assumed was the blood she spoke of) was in the center of the bed where Little Frisk had been only minutes prior. "I... better call Angel... Pap-" My brother quickly turned to me and pointed at the door. "Stay here with her, but don't go inside. Just... uh... stay here with her."
My brother vanished from sight while Little Frisk quietly cried on the other side of the door. It hurt my soul to not be able to help her in anyway.
"Little Frisk? Are you in pain?"
"My tummy hurts... but it's not my tummy... it's just below it..."
"Your abdomen?"
"I think...?"
I frowned at that. Did she not know where the pain was? "Would you like me to get you some water and some medicine for the pain?"
"But... I can't get up... I can't... stop the bleeding..."
"Hmm..." I wasn't sure what to think, but hopefully Miss Angel could help when she came back. "Worry not, Little Frisk! The Great Papyrus' brother has gone to fetch your sister! They will come back shortly. Just... bear with it a little longer, okay?"
"Okay..."
Angel's Point of View:
"So, it's going well then?" Bernie laughed as I talked to the inn keeper from inside the market place. She was shopping for her family as well for the next few days and her cart was filled to the high heavens. It was also not the only one. Behind her was two of her kids, Abe and Addie, who had volunteered to go with her for shopping to assist with getting everything home. Her youngest two, George and Theo, ran in circles around us while we talked and her eldest two with her grabbed a few more items in the emanate area.
"I'd like to think so." I sighed as I thought back to the hours I spent on detail to make sure the image came out well. "I was surprised by the diversity of the royal guard. If... I may be so bold to ask..."
"Do they all wanna kill you?" Bernie's expression softened as she glanced at me. Her arms were crossed, but more in comfort rather than aggression. "Its... more of a 'make sure they don't kill everyone in the underground' sort of fear. None of us have seen a human until you and your sister for a few years. Others have fallen down here, but none of them have either made it this far or have done things the way you have. It also helps that you have monster friends down here rather than not." Bernie tapped her chin. "Now that I think about it, all the humans I've seen come down here stayed to themselves, they never approached us, and that made others more worried... which led... to... you know..."
"Yeah, you don't have to finish that thought." I brushed my hair out of my face while I talked with her. I didn't have it in a braid for once, opting to have it down to assist with keeping me warm. I had debated on cutting it once or twice, but Frisk seemed to love it long to play with, and it truly was a good thing to have long hair to keep warm in this colder climate, so I often opted against it.
"I figured not only could the pictures help you so you knew who to expect, but it would help you know who to keep an eye out for." Bernie's nose twitched as she glanced away from me for a moment, checking on her youngest children before turning back. "Royal guardsmen tend to stay closer to the capital and the king, but that doesn't mean they don't travel and visit other locations. When Vinnie first got accepted in, he came back to patrol Snowdin so often until Undyne had to tell him otherwise he was needed more at the capital rather than here. Snowdin is so quiet, it's highly unlikely for anything to happen… but it has been getting more populated latterly…"
"I see…"
A flash of cyan startled us all and forced us to shield our eyes from the flash. When I opened my eyes again, the smaller skeleton clad in blue appeared. I didn't even have a chance to say a word before my arm was grabbed.
"Angel! Frisk-she… uh… started…"
"Started?" I blinked at him in confusion as the boney friend of mine looked paler then I'd ever seen him. "Started what?"
"Her… uh…" Sans deeply sighed before he hurried over to me. "Look, I just need you to come home. She's freaking out and it's taken me all I've got to keep Papyrus from rushin' in the bathroom after her."
"Bathroom?" In my mind, it began running through whatever could be happening before it clicked. "Oh no… how bad is it?"
"Uh- just come on!"
That didn't sound good…
"Okay-oh! Wait my groceries! I still haven't paid for them!"
"Hand them over." Bernie took my cart from me. The groceries I'd yet to pay for she'd tucked beside her and shoed me away. "Go."
"O-okay!" I latched onto Sans and in a flash of light, we were gone.
The dizzy feeling from having him teleport me all the time was becoming a bit easier as I practiced. Sans teleported us around so often, just from rooms around the house or simply to avoid the stairs in general. He certainly could be lazy when he wanted to be…
Upon arriving back at the house, my eyes instantly glanced to see Sans had placed us in his father's room that my sister and I were using while we stayed with them. The door had been left slightly ajar, enough for Frisk to slip out of in her awakening and see inside and out of the room. Papyrus worriedly stood by the door, but his eye sockets widened when he saw the flash of blue from his brother teleporting us back.
"Miss Angel!" He waved quickly at us. "Over here!"
"Just a moment Papyrus!" I dove around my room to my bag to fish out some items for my sister. Quickly I grabbed the necessary items before lifting my head enough to see the large stain on the bed.
Crap… she was having a heavy period, and for her first… that really sucked…
I changed out the items I'd grabbed for my sister, opting for the items for incredible absorption before glancing at the trail of blood droplets that led to the bathroom Papyrus stood outside of. I had a lot to clean up once I got Frisk settled…
Sans had moved away from me while I was grabbing the items I needed. He stood beside Papyrus outside the bathroom door while I hurried to the door with them.
"I'll clean this up in a sec." Not even waiting to hear their replies, I quickly knocked on the door. "Frisk? It's Sissy. I'm here to help. Can I come in?"
"… I can't reach the lock…"
"I got it, Kiddo." Using his magic, Sans quickly turned to lock from the other side before pulling Papyrus toward the stairs. "We'll wait in the livin' room."
Throwing then a thankful look, the two males hurried away while I cracked open the door and slipped in as quickly as possible to help my sister.
Later That Day:
It was an hour later before the dust finally settled between us with the drama of the day. Of course Frisk's period had to start while I was gone and she was only with the guys (guys that didn't even have living organs to understand what was happening… thank goodness for Sans knowing at least enough to get me.) Frisk was rather bothered by the event and lay out on the couch while she milked away the pain of her cramps. We had medicine in her body as well as a heating pad on her abdomen to assist with the pain.
The first one was always the worst.
She would know what to do from then on. Or at least would stick a bit closer to me to avoid the embarrassment. She'd also have to keep supplies on hand. I'd have to get her a special bag or something for that.
"Why…?" Frisk whined from the couch where she was resting. The poor girl I knew wasn't feeling well after her whole ordeal. She hadn't still eaten yet that day, I was glad I was making a stew then for dinner…
"It's your body telling you it's possible now… for you to be a mom." I rubbed the top of her head. Her head was in my lap while I played with her hair to help sooth her. She was stressed as it was, I didn't want to make anything harder on her at that moment… "At least you got to hold off until you were nearly a teen; I was nine when I had my first one… you were only a baby then."
"You had this happen when you were that little?!" Frisk flew upward, groaned in pain, before falling back down.
"Easy their Kiddo," Sans commented from his chair just a few feet away, watching the scene with slight worry to his skull. I couldn't blame the poor guy, he had to deal with Frisk… becoming a woman, for lack of a better word. "Pap will be back soon with the groceries and while Angel and I work on dinner, you can bother him all you want."
"Meh…" Frisk groaned from her spot before she curled into me and the heating pad on her abdomen. She was lethargic, to beyond Sans-like levels. It was slightly concerning, but I would worry more if it had lasted longer than that day. "That means… that both of us could be moms now?"
I couldn't help myself from smacking my face in pure embarrassment. Sans laughed from his spot, the book he was reading again landed out of his hand and onto his lap. I narrowed my eyes at him, using my magic to pull his hood over his head. He still chuckled, even as he tried to escape his own hoodie.
"Biologically, yes. Mentally? No chance." I waved her idea away quickly while I tried to calm my heartrate. "At least not for you. You better not be putting out kids until your twenty-five, with a job and married to someone who treats you right that I don't have to kick their butt."
"I won't… I don't wanna be a mom yet. I still wanna be a kid." Frisk smiled from her spot and patted my own abdomen. "But you'd be a good mom. You've kept me happy and safe. Isn't that what moms' do?"
Brushing away her hair, I chuckled. "Yeah, that's what parents are supposed do. They love you and raise you, keep you safe, even if you don't agree with them."
"And won't ya disagree with them." Sans snickered from his chair.
I hurled a pillow at him in response, even if I secretly wanted to laugh at him. The smack against his face caught him by surprise as the pillow fell from his skull into his lap. San snorted before he continued to laugh at my expense, hardly fazed by my assault.
"Regardless," I stressed the word to her. "They will always love you and will be there for you in life. Just like our parents were."
Frisk went quiet then. It wasn't often when she did, and when she did, it was normally when she was stuffing her face full of food. My sister hesitated for only a moment before her eyes met with mine again.
"Angel?"
"Yeah?"
"I miss Mom and Dad…"
I had to take a moment to calm myself as I processed that comment. Even Sans had quieted at the comment my sister had said. I missed them too. It was hard to think of a life without them, never had I thought about it when I was little, but it tore apart my mind once I was the one responsible for Frisk.
"I know." Rubbing the side of her cheek, I looked down at her, leaning my forehead to hers. "I miss them too, but I know they're happy to see we're finally doing even somewhat better than on the surface."
"You think so?"
I pulled back enough to grin at her. "I know so."
"Little Frisk! Miss Angel! Brother! I'm home!" The door slammed open then with Papyrus and all the groceries that I had to leave behind with Bernie in my rush to help my sister. "Little Frisk! I hope you are feeling even remotely better! Bernie said that while you don't feel well, you can have as much sweets as you want, since apparently females crave them even more during this time."
I felt my muscles clench in frustration. Bernie knew I couldn't get mad at the cinnamon roll of a skeleton. "Oh did she?"
"Oh yes! And she even helped me pick out some puddings to give Little Frisk that she thought she'd like."
"And did she pay for them, or did you?"
"I did… why?" Papyrus only stopped then when he noticed the strained look upon my face as I struggled to keep on a smile. "Miss Angel?"
"Uh oh." Frisk quickly pulled the blanket over her head, hiding herself. Sans followed similarly by teleporting from the room.
"Papyrus… please stay with Frisk." I gently sat up and had the skeleton take my place before I pulled on my winter travel clothes and stepped outside without a word to them.
When the door closed behind me did I scream out in frustration.
I would get that damn rabbit…
Witch's Note:
Hello people! I'm on time this week! Nothing stopped me this time!
And how could I miss a chapter like this? How's that for a lovely wake up call for our dear Miss Frisk? Sucks, and is oh so typical that she would start her period when there was only males around. To any of my female readers, or even male if you were the males in that scenario, has that happened to you? Just curious since this is built off a memory of mine.
And now for responding to our reviewers!
ShunGod: Isn't she? And with her doing so many paintings and art work, an uncommon feature among the underground, perhaps she'll earn some good money! We'll just have to wait and see! Hope you loved this chapter and gave you some lovely drama!
Alright! Love you all and see you next week! Don't forget to vote on the pole or send in reviews! We'd love to hear from you all!
