A brief little poem inspired by the Marble Room scene in the newest movie. It is yet further proof that I've been in APLA for too long.
Based on Robert Browning's "My Last Duchess" (which I don't own). If you don't know that poem, read it before you read this one.
Pride and Prejudice belongs to Jane Austen. "My Last Duchess" belongs to Robert Browning, and several lines in this are blatantly stolen from that poem.
Ah, yes, said the fine old housekeeper. That
Is one of the Master's treasures - he calls
That piece a wonder now - and Claus Innsbruk
Worked busily a day to finish it.
'Tis Neptune taming the wild seahorse.
But no, miss! Leave the curtain, for no-one
But Master may put the curtain by - why,
It hides an exquisite rarity! For
There's his last duchess, painted on the wall
Looking as if she were alive.
