Two Worlds, Two Souls
Chapter 35: Heavy Conversations
Unknown Point of View:
Every bank in the underground was placed on high alert after the first break a week prior on Christmas Eve. On that particular night, a lone set of guard dogs were stationed both outside and inside the building to watch out for any thieves.
This particular bank was in the bustling town of Hotland, near many businesses along a molten crafted road. Its name crafted above showed that it was a privately-owned bank, though a it was a well-known fact that most banks of the underground were managed or owned by the Corona group.
And it just so happened that this one was.
As the watchmen paced back and forth, watching any corner for any activity, something was noticed in the dark.
"Ressa, I got it." The watchman known and Dogaramy slowly approached the movement while his partner hung back, ready to assist when needed. As the male approached, a sound went off that stunned his simple mind.
A toy. A tiny little circle of red that was thrown around the main lobby area of the bank before being tossed up and down. The single smack of it hitting the ground made the large male dog jump up and down like a puppy filled with glee.
"A ball!" The poor single-minded guard rushed forward with little worry or hesitation while his partner whined only a few feet away.
"A ball? I want to play too!" The second dog, Dogaressa, sped after him as the ball was thrown into another room, bounced again, before heading out the front door. The two of them unfortunately left their post unattended as they raced after the ball. And only once they had the ball in hand did they hear the front door of the bank shut behind them and they then realized…
They had truly messed up.
Angel's Point of View:
"I can really order whatever I want?!"
"Frisk, you are not ordering the entire menu when we get over there!"
"Heh, come on Precious. I think we can let 'er get away from it just for the night. Let 'er fuel the fire of 'er appetite."
"Brother! Stop that this instant!"
It was a typical day for the four of us as we headed over to Grillby's for dinner instead of at our own home. Sans had stated that we had a cause to celebrate after Vinnie had finally figured out that we weren't anything to be concerned over, my sister and I. We had finally been accepted by nearly the entire town of Snowdin, and with Vinnie at least somewhat on the bandwagon, we were much larger steps closer to achieving our goal.
Truly being able to live in the underground with our friends.
Sans had suggested we go out for the night. Apparently, I'd cooked enough that I deserved a break and Sans wanted to treat us all.
Even at the expense of his brother who offered to cook instead.
So, we were all walking down the road to Grillby's, the rush of people for the new year and Christmas long gone and no one in town that wasn't supposed to be, though Frisk and I kept our cloaks in the instance we saw someone not of the town, or if Undyne snuck over…
Yes, once the blue-scaled woman finally had met my sister and I and apparently that meant that she could and would pop in at a moment's notice. Papyrus tried his hardest to make sure that we knew when she was arriving so my sister and I would be ready, other days we kept on our cloaks just to be ready if we could hear her thundering footsteps as she ran down the road screaming about being ready for training.
It certainly left us very entertained and busy…
A small get together for the four of us along with Maria's family and Bernie joined us. Bernie would have brought her entire family, but she still had to run the inn, so the kids stayed behind while she met up with us.
This also would be the first chance she's seen us since Vinnie forced us apart on Christmas Eve…
"If I let her do that, then she'll get sick Sans, she doesn't know when to stop." I looked down at my sister shaking my head. "I don't mind you picking something special tonight, since this is special, but only one thing please. I don't want you sick and I don't want to make Sans broke."
"Nah, I'll be fine Precious." Sans waved off my worries.
I narrowed my eyes at him, which made the skeleton flinch. "One thing."
"Okay! Okay..." The eldest of our group sighed as I pulled back. "One thing only... and a milkshake."
"Sans!"
"REALLY!?"
Papyrus looked over worriedly. "Brother, should you really be giving her that much sugar?"
"It's just a milkshake, not the entire dessert menu." Sans shrugged it off before looking back at me. "Ya guys deserve at least somethin' nice after dealin' with Vinnie."
The hot air left me as I sighed. I relaxed my shoulders and softened my stance. "I guess so. But we're not going to expect this all the time."
"Oh, come on Sis!" Frisk pouted at me from where she stood ahead of us by so many feet. "I'm not that bad!"
"Says the kid who can and will put away three pies before hurling them into the toilet."
My sister instantly sulked at that. "...I didn't throw it all up..."
"Still, that was too much sugar for you, so you need to be a bit more careful. I can always make more, there's no need to eat that much." So many thoughts were racing through my head when I saw her do those things, and it often made me wonder if for any reason she was sick or had diabetes. I hadn't seen any signs that said otherwise, so I could only pray that she just had too many sweets then.
"Yes Angel..."
"Good." I sighed, tired from having to discipline her so much when she went crazy on sugar highs.
Around that moment is when we walked up the sidewalk to where Grillby's location was. The popular establishment was bustling with excitement as the locals ate and chatted among themselves. I could see one of the larger tables in the back had been reserved for the group of ten of us to be there. Bernie was already there, sitting at the table while she waited for us.
"Hey!" She waved at us eagerly while she sat back in her chair.
"Hey Bernie." Quickly did the four of us plan ourselves around her while we waited for Maria and her family. "How is it now that the hostility is over?"
"Jesus Christ, that damn kid of mine…" Bernie groaned and let her hand fall into her hands. "Vinnie's got a good heart, but don't his loyalty to the crown get in the way of it sometimes. We lucked out damn hard. But it worked out in the end, I'm glad."
Bernie showed me an actual honest smile, something so rare if she wasn't bashing her kids over the heads or groaning at her stressful life. It startled me a tad, but I was still happy to see it regardless.
"We are too, that's another person who we have that at least won't sell us out. Another person who has even partly accepted us, humans, living in the underground." I leaned my head into my hands as we said and waited. "I hope that I can do this for all the other areas too…"
"Well, you're heading out to Waterfall soon enough aren't ya?" Bernie questioned from her seat beside me. "Sans offered to take you, right?"
"Yeah, just waitin' for thin's ta settle down a bit more." Sans yawned, leaning back into his chair beside me as if to take a nap. "I gotta go back ta work after this…"
"Sans! Don't be like that! We have a duty to preform!" Papyrus huffed at his brother normal lack of energy while the rest of us laughed at them. Sans showed no ounce of caring other than to grin at his pouting younger brother.
"Alright, alright, stop teasing him." I swatted the older skeleton's shoulder. "Things will be back to normal before we know it, just… I'll be doing a few more paintings, I hope. Some of which I'll need to deliver soon after the new year."
"Well, let me know if you ever need a hand," Bernie offered. "The kids could always use some of the day to get out some energy. They always have too much of it for my sake…"
Giggling at what she was implying, I nodded to her. "If I have a large painting or shipment, I will. But if it's something small, just having Sans show me around or having Frisk with me for help should be enough. I have a few orders to fulfill that I will be hopefully handling soon enough. I'm nearly done with them, but I'll need to gather some more paint soon… I'm getting a tad low…"
"Ah, I'm sure Vicky can get her hands on some for ya." Bernie chuckled while Sarada and her daughter began to pass out our normal drinks. "She knows a few people who know how to get good paints. I'm sure we can work out something."
"Thank you, just let me know the cost and I'll pay for them,"
I was thankful that I didn't have to throw a look of horror or fear in the direction of Sans or Papyrus now if I needed or wanted anything now. I had money to my name, and while it wasn't much yet, I knew I could make more so long as I kept at learning as much as I could.
Later That Evening:
"Oh Will! Don't pout like that! It will freeze your face like that!"
"Mom! Stop it!"
The mother and son pair of bears lightly growled at each other while we sat around the large table together. Most of us laughed at the expense of the younger bear, a teen who had not desire to be there with us, but was forced against his will by his mother. The strangely colored bear of white huffed and turned away, not even looking at his mother, trying to hide his eyes from looking at the door where she knew he would flee too.
"Come now Will, I don't plan to call you by that strange name-"
"Stop calling me that! Its Burst! Not Will!"
"Wilbur, enough." The low impending snarl from Robert was enough to hush the complaining of his eldest child. Will simply huffed and turned his head, ignoring us all as he wished he was anywhere but here with us.
And honestly, I wish he was too. He certainly wasn't kind talking to any of his siblings or Frisk, making her honestly a bit hurt from his earlier snark comments if it hadn't been for Maria's intervention. I wouldn't mind the boy being gone as well, but I wasn't in charge of him. It wasn't my place until he truly hurts Frisk.
Which I hoped he didn't, since I really didn't want to get angry…
Other than Will's rude comments, the night had been going on without much other fuss. The kids were all playing with each other in some form. I knew that Milly and MK were showing off their magic to Frisk in small little bursts without the adults seeing much. Frisk doing so as well when she showed off the chains that were wrapped around her.
Apparently, the bear family all shared the same magic that Milly was showing off. All bear people had a similar type of magic that consisted of some control over earth, which Milly was practicing with at the table with small marble sized earth chunks her mother had crafted for her. She was showing how she was able to move them around the table, and when she concentrated enough, could accurately fire them at targets. Frisk squealed as she saw Milly throw one into her open palm with her magic alone, and for an eight-year-old, it was quite the feature.
MK on the other hand had a magic that was different, being adopted into the family. His magic actually revolved around light. He had the magical power to create or destroy any form of lighting. At first glance, it was a more… mediocre kind of magic when I first heard of it. However, in one of his earlier play fights with Frisk or his sister, MK showed that being able to blind opponents at a moment's notice was very useful. It honestly stunned me how well he knew how to use his ability in battle.
How much training had he been through, before he was adopted by Maria?
"Better watch out Maria, the kid's burstin' at the seams with anger," Sans chuckled and the comment caused the entire bear family to laugh at the ludicrous name their eldest son had given himself that sounded "cool" among him and his friends.
Even Papyrus had snickered lightly at that one, though he did still reprimand Sans for the comment.
The dinner had done well among us. All of us showing off what we'd gotten for Christmas to the others. I was spotting my necklace that Sans had given me to help with my cover as being apart of the family. Sans had roughly explained that having a family item with their crest (should they have one) was very helpful in solidifying their place among a new family, such as when a child is adopted or a new member is married in. Its to help show who they were with now and to avoid suspicion. Sans was hoping that it would help keep Frisk and I safer, since those who knew Sans knew he wouldn't give that necklace to just anyone.
Especially with it being his deceased mother's necklace…
"Sis!" Frisk poked at my side, gathering my attention. "Can I have desert?"
"You had a milkshake Frisk, no."
"But Sis! Sans said I could!"
I narrowed my eyes at my skeleton friend. He grinned sheepishly at me, though I could see that he was not at all sorry.
"The only way I'm bending is if he promises to take care of you if you get sick later tonight from all the sugar." Turning my eyes back to Frisk, I closed in on her, shocking her greatly. "Understood?"
I'd been too lenient with her lately… I needed to cut back on some of her sweet intake…
"Sorry Kiddo, ya know I don't do promises, and I'd rather not piss off yer sister." Sans threw back his head to have another swig of the bottle of ketchup he had in his hands, noticing too soon that it was empty while my sister pouted.
"Damn it…"
"Excuse me?" My sharp tone caused my sister to flinch, nearly jumping a foot into the air at the heated gaze I was throwing her way.
"I-I said dang it!"
"That's what I thought you said."
"Hey Grillbz!" The fireman looked over at my friend. "Another bottle?"
"I gotta get some stuff from the back-room Sans, come get it yourself."
My skeletal roommate only shrugged and slid off his chair to hurry after the flaming male as he left his wife and daughter to handle some other things.
It wasn't out of the ordinary that Grillby would just allow Sans to gather the ketchup himself after so long of being friends with one another, only a few years difference between the men. Grillby was busy that night and Sans was more then welcome to help himself, so long as he left plenty for others to consume. He'd been good so far. An hour and a half in and only a single bottle had gone down.
And it wasn't even that big of a bottle…
"You got it, boss-man." Sans happily grinned at his old friend before teleporting to the back room. All of us rolled our eyes at him before I felt a sudden urge come over me.
"I'm going to be right back." I quickly stood up, but the mischievous look in my sister's eyes didn't get missed by mine. "And you'll be grounded if you order any sweets, Frisk. Bernie and Maria will watch for me, and don't think they won't."
My sister pouted as she sat in her seat, much reminding me how she was as a young child rather than nearly a teen. I was going to have to work on getting her to stop acting like a child. I knew that mostly due to the fact that I spoiled her once we actually had a place to call home. She was so happy that she could act like a child again, the years that were stolen from us. But I knew that couldn't last… she would need to grow up soon. And while I enjoyed her comedic actions on occasion, they were beginning to grate on me.
"Behave Frisk." Patting her on the back of her shoulder, I walked away from the table in the direction of the bathrooms.
Passing down the dimly lit hallway, there wasn't anyone down in this direction much. Grillby's place was popular that he had a couple of rest rooms, but had made notions to us that he planned to add on a bit in the next coming years to make up for the two small single bathrooms that people used.
"So, what is it ya gotta tell me Grillbz?" The tone I heard from my close friend was the only reason I didn't rush forward around the corner where apparently, they were. It was strange. I hung close to the wall in anticipation at the strange vocal level of my roommate. He was focused, paying attention. Very much unlike him.
Didn't they just say they were going to the storage room? That wasn't even on this side of the building!
"As I'm sure you know Sans, there's been a string of robberies in the last few weeks."
Robberies?
"Yeah, ya mentioned that back after Christmas." I heard Sans paused for a moment and it was so strange to hear him being so series in those moments I hid only a few feet away. "Another one happened, didn't it?"
"Just last night, Ressa and Ramy were out fooled by this person, but the startlin' fact this time was that they caught someone… the owner of the bank. They remembered nothing and were found in the midst of a near empty vault."
"Damn… Fluffybuns won't be happy 'bout that."
Who in the world is Fluffybuns? I'd never heard Sans speak like that before, taking a bit more charge then I was used to hearing from him. It made me a bit… nervous to hear that.
It was a well-known fact that Grillby and Sans both alike never seemed disturbed or worried about much. So, for them to go behind our backs and speak about something a bit more concerning and somehow be apart of it? I didn't even know what to think. It could only be something more underground related. If it was relating to the royal guard or the king, Sans would have removed us already, right?
He wouldn't abandon us… not after all he'd done…
"This makes the third attack, Sans. Something will have to be done."
"I know, I know…" I could hear my friend sigh. "Let me just make sure that the girls and Pap are safely home and then I'll see what I can do. Cool?"
Grillby sighed from his spot. "I suppose it will have to do. Get another bottle from the store room and I'll meet you out front shortly. The others will notice if we're gone for much longer."
"Got it, Grillbz."
I held myself tighter in the corner while I heard footsteps pass by the small little wall I hid behind only to see Grillby walk away, not noticing me at all. I vaguely saw the flash of blue before peaking out around said wall to see that Sans was gone as well. With them both removed from the area, I hurried into the bathroom, closing the door behind me as to not be disturbed.
Sans was protecting us from something… he's so much more involved in things then I would have guessed…
I was confused, but at the same time worried for my friend. Sans wasn't one to involve himself often. The only reason why he would do as such would be if this was something endangering to Papyrus, and I hesitantly thought for myself or Frisk as well.
Sans and Grillby had spoken of robberies. Someone, or a few people, had broken into multiple banks, three if I heard properly. So these people were most likely after money or things that could be sold for an incredible amount of money…
Could Sans be afraid that someone would break into our home?
Relatively speaking, if someone was to think about that, those who didn't know Sans or fear him would possibly attempt to do such a feature. I mean, breaking into a lazy skeleton's house while the younger brother worked all the time. And to top it all off, their father was a renown scientist when he still lived and possibly had some rare science equipment lying around in the basement.
A place where Sans had respectfully asked that we not travel down to since it held most of his father's things. And while Sans might have been okay with us taking over his parents' room to live in, the lab was off limits without his say. Even Papyrus was kept out for his safety from possibly dangerous experiments that Sans was slowly combing through to remove from the house.
And I did not want to be the person to break that promise…
However, at the time I didn't have enough information to be able to do much of anything or have enough evidence to present Sans and try to get him to open up to me. He perhaps would talk to me later, or he wouldn't. I didn't know then.
So, until that moment would arise, I would gather my details. Watching the news to see what the public was saying about the events would be a good start, and if perhaps we managed to find Undyne, I was certain I could sway enough information to have her explain things to me…
I probably should have left well enough alone, Sans seemed like he was doing his best to handle the situation… But if my sister could be harmed and this new life for us ruined by someone who could break in…
There wasn't anything I wouldn't do to keep her and my friends safe from this threat.
Witch's Note:
Oh no! So secretive Sans has been protecting the girls as well as Paps all this time? From what it sounds like he's been doing crazy stuff again, but what exactly is he doing?
And what in the world is Angel going to do?
She also plans on going over to where Undyne is located in Waterfall! Oh, I have been so looking forward to this! I can't wait for all of you to see the descriptions and how I expanded on Waterfall's actual size and what's involved there! Please do let me know your thoughts!
And! And! And! Now we can spread out and start seeing new locations! And meet new people! I have so many characters that you're all going to meet soon that I can't wait! Maybe this will keep Mystic Girl distracted from Robert for a while-
(Off in the distance there is an army being raised. Cannons can be seen off in the distance while patrols are constantly on the move. In the center of a fully armorized unit is there general, Mystic Girl, leading the charge.)
Damn, I knew it was too good to be true… help me you guys!
And now onto the reviews!
King Artemis: Why thank you so much for that review! It's incredibly warming to hear those words from you. In all honesty, when I first started the book, I honestly was worried about that too and didn't plan to post it. But Mystic Girl told me otherwise. Saying we had to share it, even if perhaps others wouldn't be fans of it. And it seemed we didn't do too bad. Thank you so much and don't hesitate to share your thoughts! Even if its constructive criticism, its okay. We appreciate it!
Alright! So that's the end of this chapter and moving onto the next! Hey all! Who wants to see Undyne next chapter! Or help me stop Mystic Girl… Please help!
