Two Worlds, Two Souls
Chapter 39: Missing
Angel's Point of View:
A deep groan escaped me while I sank into the cushions of the couch. Muscles were sore and most of my magic stored away was used up during this particular day off. A day where I gave myself the freedom to not paint for clients or for Frisk to work on endless amounts of homework. It was a day where Undyne had off and decided to have training at our house…
And I got dragged into it…
Ever since I'd willingly practiced with Undyne the morning before Sans' birthday a few weeks ago, the woman got too much of a thrill from fighting a different person then Papyrus and the other members of the guard. I tried to keep my patterns simple, I didn't want to give away too many of my attacks and tried to keep my magic basic, mostly defensive with a few oddly placed offensive attacks here and there to entertain her. Undyne mostly got frustrated from not being able to break the chains of my defense, where the magic became thicker. It was thinner as it traveled a greater distance from my body, though it moved faster and was easier to break or move myself at lightning fast paces.
Undyne certainly wasn't expecting some of the frustrating skills I had under my belt.
However, now that she'd seen it, she wanted to train against it and break my chains and beat me. It was exhausting trying to avoid using too much magic while facing her.
I didn't want to move.
"Alright you nerds! I'll see ya later!" Undyne left shortly after me sinking into the old couch's cushions.
"Good bye, Undyne!" Frisk and Papyrus waved to her eagerly as she left while I couldn't be bothered to move. Sans chuckled from the spot beside me as he watched my actions.
"Tired there, Precious?"
"…Oh hush."
I would have smacked him, but my entire body ached so incredibly. Undyne kept hacking at my defenses, even if she wasn't able to break them, I still felt the pain of being hurled around like a rag doll. Undyne was getting friendlier and less cautious of physical touch with me. It seemed she most likely came to a conclusion that my scars were more visible rather than painful. So long as she didn't ruin my cloak, we didn't have any problems when we sparred.
Granted it still hurt like a bitch…
"Oh Angel? Are you alright?" Papyrus worriedly stood over my body on the couch while I rested.
Ever since my heart to heart with Papyrus about what Sans had gone through in the past, he had dropped the "miss" before my name. Yet he had not called me sister again since. I wasn't sure if it was something he had yet to talk about with Sans or not, and was watching out for his brother's feelings. I wouldn't put it past our cinnamon bun of joy.
"Sorry, Papy. Undyne really put it to me today." I attempted to sit up more, just to make myself a bit more presentable, however, my muscles refused to do so. They wanted rest, and with no immediate danger in the area, that's exactly what they were going to get. "I don't think I can will my body to get up and go shopping like we'd planned. Do you think perhaps you can write up a list and head out with Frisk?"
"Oh of course! It's no trouble at all!" Papyrus quickly grabbed the requested items from the kitchen area in a catch-all drawer. "Should I also do something on the smaller side that would be quicker to prepare for us? With it being so late and all?"
It was only then that I looked to the clock on the wall and saw the bone like hands strike seven-thirty. It was much too late, and by the time Papyrus home from the store, it would most likely be an hour later.
"Why don't I put in an order ta Grillbz?" Sans commented from my side. "I can go chat with him and Sara while Pap and Frisk go shopping and that way ya can rest, Precious."
Anything that didn't require me to move for the remainder of the night made me quite happy…
"I'm okay with that."
"Please do not get me anything greasy…" Papyrus pouted at his brother.
"Get one of Sara's salads then Papy!" My sister reminded her tall friend. "Sara just started that new section of the menu to offer healthier items and even I liked it when Sis got it last time."
"Yes… I suppose that is true…" Papyrus hummed over the thought before he turned to his brother. "I would like one of those salads please, Sans. And perhaps you could get me a milkshake as well?"
"Sure Bro." Sans shoved his hands into his pockets while he stood. "Any other special orders?"
"Oh! I wanna have a deluxe burger please! And a milkshake!" My sister quickly requested before turning to me. "I was really good and didn't eat any other sweets today besides a muffin for breakfast. Can I have one, Sis?"
I sighed, though my sister and truly tried hard and restrained herself, as well as worked diligently when training today. I suppose a reward wouldn't hurt…
"Alright, yes you can." She squealed in delight to my response. "And I'll have a deluxe burger as well, just with mustard and dill relish please. No lettuce or tomato. I guess I'll have a shake as well, since you'll already be bringing home two."
"Ya got it, Precious." With a salute to us, the skeleton teleported away, leaving behind a blue haze in his wake.
"I suppose then that we'll go ahead and purchase some groceries then," Papyrus quickly wrote down the things he knew we needed. "Come along, Little Frisk!"
"Coming Pap!" My sister bound after him, leaping mid jump in order to climb atop of his lanky form. "See ya Sis!"
Once the door was closed, I sighed at the quiet. Only the crackling of the fire was left behind to keep the ringing of silence to a minimum. Struggling to use any amount of effort, I pulled my legs up onto the couch and laid down, happy to try and take a nap while I waited for the others to return.
Sans' Point of View:
"Hey Grillbz! Sara!" I laughed when I caught their attention. My best friend merely shook his head while Sara chuckled at his expense. "Hook me up with another!"
I was having a blast, sendin' out puns left and right while I drank some homemade ketchup when waiting on the food for me and the others. I figured, why not enjoy the time and pass around a few puns ta those around me? Not like anyone disliked them (Pap was totally lyin' every time he made a face, he loved 'em, just… didn't like 'em as often as I did.)
"Sans, haven't you had enough?" Sara tried ta play the peacemaker as she stood beside me, takin' the empty bottle from m'hands. "Don't you still have to take food back to your family?"
"It's fine! I've only had two!" I couldn't stop myself from gigglin' at her. "One more and then I'm done!"
Sara sighed, but she retreated the requested item for me. She shook her head, the green flame of her magic flickerin' lightly, before she returned ta her husband's side ta help him.
I wouldn't lie, I was buzzed from the two previous ketchups that had been passed in my direction, and a third would be my limit before I ended up a bit more drunk then planned. I wanted some drinks ta pass the time, but I still had ta be sober enough ta get the food home ta the others.
Pap would be infuriated if I came home drunk and lost the food.
So I bided my time, chillin' in the slowly clearin' out restaurant. Grillbz and Sara would close after ten, so I had just made it in time ta put in our order before it got too late or the final swin' came through. Grillbz was very popular, his food the best in most of the underground, and Sara wasn't a half bad cook herself. Little Fuku had already been sent off to bed a short while ago, her bedtime bein' nine that was fast approchin'.
Speakin' of bedtime, my mind filtered back to the human who was restin' at the house. I could picture her layin' there, still covered in her protective robes that hid her identity. Angel had been pretty tired, humorin' Undyne when the fish monster wanted ta fight with her and try ta break that damn defense of Angel's. It was impossible though. Angel had an incredible magic that allowed her ta create hundreds of those chains at once, mostly used in defense, but some in offense. Undyne had wanted to break through those impassable chains that Angel held against her, and failed epically, but not without wear and tear on my human friend.
I could imagine when she finally had the energy to wake up enough, she'd remove that robe, showin' off her jeans and plaid shirt over her sleeveless shirt she layered with. She always was layerin' with those shirts, never saw her without 'em except when she went to bed. She liked to be cold. She said she preferred to layer so she could take things off if it got too warm, or bundle up if it got too cold. She always commented that "you could always add more layers, but there's only so much you could take off".
I couldn't help but imagine if she would take some more off…
I froze as the thought crossed my mind. Ah, shit… this is why I shouldn't be allowed ta think or be on my own… the alcohol is getting' ta me…
"Hey," I was dragged from my deep thoughts when another body appeared next ta me. Small in appearance, I noticed he was a mouse monster. He looked prim and proper, dressed as if he was in a high class estate rather than the casual dress code Grillbz required. The suite with the large heavy coat ta keep him warm made the small mouse man stand out in comparison. He seemed ta be a part of the last rush of the night as more people entered the builidn' at eight in hopes of getting' a good meal from getting' out late from work. "Is this seat taken?"
An involuntary hiccup escaped me and I gestured ta the stool beside me. "Knock yerself out, kid."
The mousy young man sat down beside me, reachin' into his coat to pull out a pretty new lookin' wallet. Inside were large bills, nearly freshly pressed ta go with the fancy look he had on him. I watched the guy wave his hand for one of the owner's attention.
"Bartender? A drink if you will."
Grillbz was too busy with the others, so it was Sara who came to take his order. She quickly fetched a bottle of beer, popped the top, and handed it ta the male. He quickly paid her before askin' for his order he called in about half an hour ago.
"It'll be out in just a moment. Yours will too Sans, let me just box them all up for you and you'll be ready to go in say five or so minutes." The fire woman took off then and I was left with the mouse.
"Damn… I haven't seen a skeleton in a long time." The male turned ta face me and held a gloved hand before himself. "Name's Sly, cool jacket."
I shook his hand back. "Name's Sans, n-ice to meet-cha."
"Damn, a punner." The mouse chuckled and leaned against the counter ta enjoy his bear. "Haven't heard one of those in a long while either. Are your jokes all Snowdin based?"
"Hm… forgot I was in a restaurant, I guess I'll need ta ketchup."
"Oh Lord…" I could hear Grillbz off in the distance while I laughed at his misfortune.
"Ah, c'mon Grillbz! Ya love me buddy! Mayo always be my friend!"
"Sans!" Grillbz's flames seemed to only get hotter in appearance in his fury. It might have been a tad too late for those puns…
Sara sighed from where she was choppin' up some greens. "Sans, don't you think you could calm down on the puns? It's a tad late and you know how my husband gets when it's this time in the evening and you start putting out more jokes."
"Sharp observation there, Sara." She could only sign. "But I guess I could cut back a bit, but only if you admit it was cleaver."
"Alright, that's it!" I blinked before my food was placed before me. "Pay you're goddamn tab and get the hell out, I'm done with this for tonight."
And then he stormed off before I could say another word.
"Oh dear…" Sara hurried over after him, only glancin' my way for a moment with a disapprovin' look before divin' into the backroom.
Whoops… I guess I pressed too many buttons… this is what I get for using puns to try and take my mind off of thin's…
"Damn man… didn't think he'd do that." The mouse man came back into the picture shrugged before I got off my stool and grabbed my food.
"Yeah… I guess I overdid it." I chuckled, doing my best ta stand up right as I stood again after three drinks. "Wasn't expectin' him to flare up in anger."
The mouse rolled his eyes. "Has anyone told you those puns are terrible?"
"Meh, every day." I shrugged. "Welp, gotta head back ta the fam. See ya later Sly."
"Later Sans."
The mouse turned then to reach for his drink, but before he could take a sip or I to turn away, he choked on his own breath. I paused, focusin' on him for a moment. Sly raised a hand ta his throat then before his seat wobbled in his struggle and I watched him fall ta the ground. People around gasped at his actions and I set my food ta the side before seein' what I could do, being the one right next ta him.
"Sly? Kid, can you hear me?" Sly's eyes turned ta me, he slowly reached up toward my face and in moments I felt his gloved hand hit me, then his sweaty wrist made contact with my skull. I felt it then, a twinge of magic surge through me that caused me ta lose balance and land on my knees.
Blackness swam over my vision and within moments, I could no longer see.
