Two Worlds, Two Souls
Chapter 43: Preparations
Angel's Point of View:
It was a quiet day in our household as I approached the older skeleton's room with breakfast and tea in hand. He was strictly off of coffee and anything that could keep him awake until he was recovered and could teleport at least once without falling asleep instantly.
Sans was overjoyed to see us all once more, be in his own bed and see his brother. Papyrus had been so sick with worry that he'd cleaned Sans' room and laid a spot on the floor where he slept, wanting to be with his brother to make sure nothing else terrible happened. He knew of how Sans hadn't been treated well during his time captured, but never did he see just how terrible the older brother had been when I'd found him.
Opening the door quietly, I saw that Papyrus and Frisk were still sleeping on the floor of the room. Sans was yawning on his bed, already perched up by pillows and seemed to grin when he saw the food I had on hand for him. His book he had in his hands he set down in a random drawer before patting the spot next to him.
"Mornin'."
"Good morning." I slowly crept over, stepping between the bodies of the little ones before making it to the bed with food for Sans and I. The younger one's food I'd left downstairs for them to fetch once they woke.
It was a rare moment there in the house where they weren't fretting over Sans since his arrival back home a couple days ago. The older skeleton had everything handed to him on a silver platter, which he was perfectly okay with after all. He was a lazy skeleton, but the fact that no one left him alone was also a comfort after suffering at the hands of those thieves for a near week.
"Breakfast in bed for little ol' me? Precious ya shouldn't have."
"Oh hush and eat up." I couldn't help but smile at him while I set the tray on his lap. "But this plate is for me."
"Stealin' food from a wounded monster, oh how ya hurt me Angel."
"There's no ketchup on this, you'll hate it."
"Ah shucks." Sans reached for his sandwich that I'd passed him, taking an eager bite with vigor that he normally didn't have, though his stomach must have overruled his normal habits in those moments. "Damn… good breakfast sandwich Angel."
"Why thank you, though they're not that hard to make."
Sans shrugged and ate at a few more bites. The two of us quietly sitting in his room before he looked over to the two cups of tea I had to the side. Sans groaned at it and I raised an eye brow.
"I gotta drink more of that crap?"
"Sorry, doctor's orders for you to get as much sleep as possible. And tea puts you to sleep."
"Bleh. I'll take a cup of joe any day instead of that stuff."
"I like that stuff."
"Then ya can have it."
"Nope." I rolled my eyes at him. "You don't have to drink it now, or I can get you juice or water, but not coffee until at least the end of the week. You heard the doctor."
"There's a lot of thin's they told me not to do." Sans tone changed then, and I faced him as he gave me a bit more serious look.
Holding up his finger to his teeth, he glanced at the younger ones still sleeping on the floor. When he saw them not likely to wake in any of the moments, he reached forward and latched onto my wrist. I struggled to hold back a gasp as we were teleported.
Sans landed us in the kitchen area and I had seconds to thing to set down my legs before I fell to the floor. Sans struggled after the powerful move of magic and leaned back against the wall, though still gripping my arm to help in holding him up.
"Sans!" Rushing over, I assisted in holding him up. He was still so tired even after three days of nothing but rest. He would need more days to rest, and doing anything too magically involved practically ruined that progress. "What the hell are you-"
"Shh." He hushed me, putting a hand over my mouth and looking to the upper floors. "Not so loud Precious. Don't want the baby bones hearin' about work."
Jury related items… As displeased as I was with him, I understood the reason why he did so. Neither of us could tell the others of our involvement as a jury member or the judge. Only between other jury members could we converse about those things.
"What is it?"
"Follow me."
Sans was able to steady himself, though he kept a grip on my wrist as he walked. I could only assume not to lose me or to keep himself steady if he fell again. Around the corner of the kitchen was the access to the basement that Sans had always asked us to stay away from. It was filled with mementos of their father and mother's that Sans wasn't ready for others to touch or for him to part with.
I was stunned when he was taking me down the wooden steps.
I was surprised to feel that the basement was fairly warm, regardless of the fact that it was below ground and surrounded by concert walls. Though many of those walls were covered in chaotically placed papers and plans, mostly inventions or scientific equations. Tables were covered in vials and chemicals of many types while books were stacked on shelves to the side. The large room had a few projects left under covers where I could not see what they were. Sans pulled us past that room and deeper in where a solid wall stood, though a dial pad was hooked up to the wall.
"Okay Angel, this room is m'private study. I ask everyone to keep away because of everythin' ya already know, but also to keep others away from this room where all my files are about cases I've helped with and judged or juried in the last ten years." Sans motioned me forward. "I'm gonna add yer eye scan to the machine so it will recognize ya. Just be aware that ya have ta have magic pulsin' from yer eye for the machine to scan ya. Otherwise it won't allow ya through."
"Okay…" I approached the machine while Sans typed a few things into it. Sucking in a breath, summoned my chains to wrap around me to stimulate the red glow from my eyes. Sans nodded at me before moving aside.
"Put your eye before the scanner and let it do its thin' for about thirty seconds. It will scan a couple times ta make sure it goes through, so hold that for as long as ya can."
"Got it."
I tried my hardest to follow the instructions that Sans had given me while presenting my eye to the scanner. A harsh white light darted out and began to scan and I struggled to not flinch at the intensity of it. The moments slowly ticked by as my eye was scanned multiple times before it flashed a softer green light at Sans. Once he saw this, a sigh escaped him and the wall magically opened, showing me seems to a door that was not there before hand.
It was no wonder now one would be able to find it.
Upon entering, I could see lights automatically turn on in the room. The room itself wasn't very large, barely able to hold the two of us inside of it. It was so small; no one would notice it in the blueprints of the house. A single desk sat against the wall while a filing cabinet was next to it, partially cracked open with papers thrown inside. However, they seemed to be labeled well and were easy to read.
A thicker file was left out on the desk with many packets spewed about. Sans pulled out the office chair to sit before motioning me over to him.
"So this is the file we got on this last case, about those three stooges." Sans pulled out the papers so I could see them all at once on the desk. "I got history on their magic, family, medical, and our reports we wrote up for Asgore. All of the jury members will be reviewin' the information over the course of the next few days before the trial we'll go to at the end of the week. Best brush up on all of it, because somethin' here could help in their judgement ta make a swift decision. Asgore hates when it's drawn out, keeps us from doin' our normal job in the field."
"Of course." I nodded and began to look through the piles. "I'm assuming you'd like me to use the time that the young ones are dotting on you to take advantage of this room, correct?"
"Yeah, I can keep 'em busy while you do this." Sans yawned, already tired from his short trip. "I'mma goin' back to bed."
I rolled my eyes before helping him stand. "I'll take you back up."
Sans waved me off, pushing my hands away. "Nah, Precious. I got it."
The deadpan look I gave him was enough to make him halt.
"I'll call Papyrus if you don't let me help you."
"Fu-Angel don't do that."
"Then listen to me, Papyrus wasn't the only one that was worried when you were gone." Keeping my arms on him to keep him steady; I softened my eyes at him. "I was up all night when you were taken, looking for you and waiting up, unable to sleep. Please Sans. I know you're normally a really strong guy, but this really scared us and when you can't teleport without falling asleep or crashing into something. That worries the others and me. All we want is to help you get back to the way you were before this happened."
Sans paused at that. I could still see the irritation in his boney features that we were all doing this, however, the sigh that came from his showed me that he understood.
"Alright, ya win Precious."
"It's not about winning." I sighed as the pressure somewhat left me as he calmed, though I know he was just irritated that he could not move and teleport as he always had. "I miss your sudden pop ups into rooms and random puns. I'm not a fan of things being plain."
Sans raised a non-existent eyebrow at me. "Ya really miss 'em that badly?"
Rolling my eyes, I began to lead him back up the stairs.
"In case you're actually unaware, yes, I love your puns. I like laughing." Snorting lightly, I made sure my chains were at the ready in case he slipped. "Frisk and I never laughed on the run, its… relieving that we can be so relaxed."
"Heh… they really mean that much ta ya, eh?"
"Yes, it does."
"Then I guess I better get back to bed then, and drink that stupid tea."
I narrowed my eyes at him. "I like that tea."
"Tastes like bad water ta me." Sans waved me off
I stuck out my tongue at him. "Well, you're coffee takes like boiled dirt."
He dramatically gasped at me, holding a hand to his head. "Precious! How ya wound me!"
"Brother?!" As we had just gotten up the first set of stairs, Papyrus darted his worriedly little skull out of the older brother's room. When his sockets landed on Sans, his instant panic diminished. "Sans! You had me worried sick!"
"It's okay Papy, he was with me. Just wanted to stretch his bones a bit after sleeping for so long." Sans allowed me and Papyrus to pass him between each of us like a rag doll, and was carried like one by his brother. "But I think he's ready for another nap after he finished his food."
"Of course! Back to bed you go, Brother!"
"Yeah, yeah." Sans yawned before waving back to me. "Later Precious."
I tried to hide my snicker behind my fingers. "Good night, Darling. And keep an eye on him Papy, I'm heading out for some shopping. Should be back in a bit. And then I'll get some lunch going for everyone."
"Of course!" Papyrus saluted me before dragging both he and his brother back into the room. "Good luck with your shopping!"
Then Sans door shut and I could hear all hell breaking loose inside as my sister was woken much too early for how late she had been up the night before.
Not a very smart idea Papyrus…
Before anyone could ask me for assistance, I hurried back into the basement and locked the door from the inside. Sans could just message me if he needed anything as well as the others. While I had precious moments to spare, I rushed down to the bottom level. I saw the secondary entrance to the basement to the side that I would be able to slip out of as soon as I was done to rush off and do my shopping.
The secret room Sans had showed me had closed after we'd left, so it took me a moment to build up that magic in my eye again to open the door and make sure the others didn't notice it. I opened the room back up and allowed the door to close behind me while I looked at the papers he'd just sifted through.
Taking my seat, I pulled out the first file and began to read.
First Name: Harry
Last Name: Stall
Age: Nineteen
Immediate Family: Rupert (Father), Sophia (Mother), Susie (Younger Sister), Margret (Aunt)
Education: Waterfall High School Diploma
Employment: Stall Security Assets
Monster Breed: Horse
Magic Type: Enhanced strength, enhanced speed
Weapon Uses: Some practice with swords and axes within school
The list went on and on about the three files that sat before me. I combed through them at a generous pace, eager to soak up every piece of information that I could in order to help at the trial.
A trial that I didn't even know how this kingdom was going to run it…
I would have to ask Sans later if he'd fill me in on what they planned to do, thought he most likely wouldn't…
The one thing that seemed strange to me was the profile on Sly. I could see that Sans had manually changed over the slot where his magic type was once placed as hypnosis, was changed to none, and then changed to body snatcher.
The final change had been marked in red ink by Sans. I could tell from his handwriting that looked like comic sans on a computer. Both brothers tended to write in their own font they saw and heard every day when they spoke to others or each other.
He had written this very aggressively, not sticking to his normal style and getting even more messy then normal when he did as such. Was it out of anger? Most likely. Sans had been infuriated about the entire ordeal and I'm sure worried to the core. I only had a glimpse of how he was feeling when those fools had made fun of him while using him.
I read the details of their worth ethic, which was little to nothing as other family members or employees picked up the slack that those three refused to do for their parents businesses. It seemed that the younger siblings of both Sly and Harry did most of the work, Vicky and Susie, who were hoping to take over the companies instead of their brothers. Both the siblings would most likely be called in for statements before the trial for more evidence to go over. I would have to ask Sans later when the little ones were asleep.
Before I could look any further, I could hear the noise level increasing up the stairs. I didn't wish for myself to be caught while Sans was buying time for me, so I closed up the room and snuck out the back door, eager to go shop and think over everything I'd read.
Later That Day:
"Brother, are you sure you'll be alright?" Papyrus gave his brother a puppy dog pout, hoping the sad display would convince his brother otherwise of the choice we'd made.
"Pap, I'll be fine." Sans waved him off while he leaned into tons of blankets and pillows along the lining of the couch. He stretched out and lazed deeper into the pillows while I sat beside him in the single armchair. "Angel'll keep an eye on me while ya go pick up food. She won't let me out of her sights for a second."
"He'll probably bombard me with puns as soon as you're out the door Papyrus." I tried to hold back the laughter behind my hand. "You should listen to him and head out, I'll watch him carefully."
"Oh… alright. I suppose I shall." Papyrus sighed, but bent his overbearing will to his brother plea. "Little Frisk! Are you prepared to get dinner from the restaurant in Waterfall?"
"Coming Pap!" My sister flew over the edges of the railing and caught up with the lanky skeleton. She leapt onto his form, covered head to toe in her garb to keep her identity hidden. "Let's go!"
"Yes, let's!"
And off they went then, Papyrus slammed open the heavy weighted door and hurried out into the frigid area. As soon as he was out, I quickly closed the door and Sans sighed, leaning back into the pillows for a second and then sitting up.
"My bro is so amazin', sometimes it's too amazin'."
"And here I thought I'd never hear you say that."
"He's normally pushin' me away, not keepin' me close."
"There's always a first time for everything."
Sans groaned loudly, making it painfully obvious that he wished it wasn't the case.
"Anyway, I was able to get through all the files earlier."
That perked his interest enough to force him to stop his acting.
"And?"
"Will we be getting any interviews from the siblings? Or parents? I feel that they have lots of information that wasn't included in these reports. I only got some snit bits."
"Ah, I must'a forgot to give ya that one." Sans took that moment to stand and stretch, not using his magic to preserve his energy. "I'll check the other files, Vicky had given quiet the statement. She's Sly's younger sister and was the first victim when they started attackin' the banks."
"Oh? I think that's very important to read that over."
"I'll get it for ya. Precious." He motioned me to follow me. "Shouldn't have it out of the room for Pap or Frisk to see."
"Okay." Quickly standing, I followed him toward the basement once more. I'd unlocked it once I'd gotten home so that Sans and I were easily able to enter instead of forcing him to teleport. He was still recovering, and another near ten hours of rest had really brought him back to what he was, so long as he didn't use his magic.
I could see the toll taken on him. How difficult it was for him not to use something he used nearly all the time. If I couldn't use my magic… I couldn't imagine how difficult that would be since my chains were so in tune with everything I do that without them… I didn't think I could even fathom how to do anything.
Once back in the office Sans pulled out some papers that were hidden in the desk drawer that he handed over to me to glance at. With the report in hand, I had the final pieces that I could look over and be ready for when the trial was.
"There, now ya can look through 'em and we'll both be all set for the case." Yawning, Sans turned to head back the way we'd came. "Just put 'em on the desk when yer done, I'll take care of 'em another time."
"Sure, I'll be just a good ten or so-"
And that's when everything fucked up.
Sans fell asleep while standing. I could tell it when I saw his head flop backward while he fell forward.
"Sans!"
I darted forward, the papers departed into the air and floated down from the ceiling like snow from above. I had reached out to catch Sans, any part of him, and my chains had too. They had caught him, but not before my arm had.
Normally Sans was a light guy and I could pull him up with ease, but the angle at which he fell caused me to slip.
I fell with him.
No…
Correction, I fell on top of him.
The initial shriek I couldn't hold back as my body landed on his lining up perfectly in many angles. Many situations always became like that once one or both of us had faded from consciousness.
Granted, there was one angle I'd never been in before where this was a first.
His smooth teeth that had a thin layer of magic coating them in an effort to keep warm and retain the magic he'd accumulated over the last few days was there, giving him an almost skin like texture. That had lined up with my lips in midst the fall.
Sans had unknowingly stolen my first kiss.
Not even any of the previous assholes in my life had been able to claim that from me.
And yet, Sans had.
In those moments, I was frozen between being stunned and if I in fact actually liked it.
"Oh my God!" I flew back the second that thought hit the back of my mind, though my magic kept its hold on Sans as he was leaned against them.
Just as quickly as it'd come, Sans came back from his blacking out and blinked at me. "Precious? Ah shit… musta blacked out."
"I-its fine." I let out a sigh as I leaned back. Trying to push the memories to the back of my mind, I lifted him effortlessly in my arms. I was too stunned to think clearly about what he'd want instead to appear not so… "damsel in distress" like. "You're going to bed before it happens again."
"Yeah… probably a good idea…" Sans rubbed the back of his head nervously while I rushed him up the stairs. He gave me no fuss as I set him into bed and quickly said my goodbyes before leaving. Sans was out before I'd even left the room.
After I stepped out of his room and closed the door, I couldn't help but let my fingers ghostly touch my lips. Feeling the tingling from where his magic coated teeth had been, I could feel the aftereffects, it was almost like I'd eaten mint from the cold tingles I felt over my plump facial skin.
And it was in those moments that my tongue darted out, glossing over them absentmindedly.
I realized then that Sans made my heart soar, and I wanted more.
I wanted it to happen again…
Witch's Note:
Uh oh! Is that a bit of love that Angel may be feeling for Sans? The first bud growing of her affection? Ooo! So cute! Is it bad that I love their morning moments where they playfully argue over their favorite drinks? Boiled dirt! Ha ha!
But the trial is up coming for those terrible men who hurt Sans, who's excited for that? And we get to meet the rest of the jury that works with Sans and the king! Who do you guys think are on it? Any guesses? I will be SO happy if any of you can guess even ONE member between now and next week! I'll be honest, I can only think of four of them that perhaps you guys can guess while the others are random npcs that I grabbed from the background and actually turned into characters. Let's see if you guys are lucky!
And now onto the reviews!
Ceoko: Ceoko! Honey! It's been so long! Where HAVE you been? Missed you entirely during these latest chapters as things start getting crazy! You gotta stick around, juicy stuff shall be beginning soon enough! Only a few filler chapters between now and then! And regardless if your prediction was off, its still go to hear the guesses. Angel tries to avoid fighting as much as she can, so it makes sense that she'd try to defuse a fight rather then taken it on if she could avoid it. But we'll see more of her fighting, I CAN promise that!
Not A Shady Guy: Okay, let me start off by apologizing on that. Clearly I can't read, which is terrible as an author. And yeah, Angel is getting some serious power in high places, which will be helpful as more of the monster people come to know her and love her. All apart of her plan as she slowly reveals herself to the people of the underground! And as for Sans being the strongest monster and what not… I think she was more worried about his well being then otherwise. XD Angel just really isn't a fighter. As cruel of a way to say it (and Undyne will reflect these same words down the line) Angel loves to play house, hates fighting and what not. Crude, but true. Oh, and what is this about documents being deceived for me?
(I stop typing for my lovely viewers to take a moment to read the documents that have been gifted from Mystic Girl and ShunGod's armies. The plans detail the next four locations they plan to attack in great detail in order to find the location of Sly and his goons simultaneously.)
(I sighed) Another headache to deal with. Isn't it hard enough to try and write a lovely story or two for my viewers? Don't those guys know I'm working on the sequel? Ugg… I don't have time for this…
RoseCentury: Ooo! Pretty! What kind of college classes are you taking? And I'm sure that a lot of people would have loved Angel to reveal herself then to the king, but it was not the time! It ruins basically almost all the rest of my book if she revealed herself now! If you remember the game Rose, what important event happens when you first travel through Waterfall?
(I'm giggling on my side.) It's the only hint you're getting!
Alright! That's it for this week! I hope I gave you all enough to anticipate next week's lovely chapter! Please don't forget to leave comments for me and Mystic Girl! We so love to hear them! Besides! I need at least someone to keep me sane while all of this is going on!
Love you all and see you next week!
