Two Worlds, Two Souls

Chapter 47: Sweet as Nice Cream

Angel's Point of View:

Sometimes it actually didn't help out all the much to have as potent of a soul.

My soul sometimes felt like suffocation even as I tried to stay as far away as I could from my intended target in the streets of the capitol. He kept looking back every so often on the streets to see if anyone was watching him. An older male that had a bit of a shadiness to him, who had been doing some illegal gambling in the last few months that had been brought to the attention of the king.

Sans had sent myself and two others of the jury to investigate, to prepare for capture of this male. Hops and Glyde were my partners in the last week as we trailed this male all over the underground. He tended to stick within the capitol, so it was difficult to follow him on occasion.

However, we were also good at tailing him.

Glyde had some amazing skills in magic that revolved around air in general. He was able to create powerful gusts at the same time as manipulate the air around him to provide cover and stealth. And on that particular day in the underground, it was very foggy due to the hot air that came from Hotland in comparison of the cooler earth. Our large companion was the one trailing in close proximity while I was at a distance and Hops was actively in the crowds.

Being a nice cream salesman allowed Hops to present himself to all the folk of the underground. He eagerly handed out treat after treat while our target was getting closer to him. Our target offered Hops a glance before walking off past him.

Though this was the fifth time he'd passed Hops nice cream cart in the same two hours.

After searching around for information from other monsters that had participated in this rig (those that had been sloppy after getting drunk at this supposed operation) it turns out that the man scouts out for his regulars to collect bets from as well as seek out anyone else he can try to rob blind. It was discovered that a certain unique symbol of three rings all rotating together in black would be on anyone involved. Discreetly we began to follow all those that we saw with the mark, even after they removed it and went back to their families.

So we needed someone who this man could think he could take advantage of and not think that he was apart of the guard or jury.

And who better to do that from then a nice cream salesman that hardly looked like he could hurt a fly?

Hops was fully prepared to be sent in blind to this operation with Glyde and I shortly behind him and with the help of the guard. The king had ordered Undyne and her men to assist us once we had discovered the location of where this gambling ring was taking place. This guy we were tailing, Amundo Sarabi, was noticed to be the leader of this group of ill folk. Granted, he was smart. He kept moving his operation's location, so only a very thin select few knew of the location days before the event.

This was something that needed to be taken down as fast as possible.

Sans had been working on this for months with the king and the other jury members before I came along. This… freak was kidnapping children and forcing them to fight each other for his own stupid amusement. Most of the kids were taken from the capitol, from orphanages where the children were left behind due to the most recent chemical spill from the humans above that took out nearly a third of the underground population. However, some of them were stolen on the way home from school. These children were not only the next generation, but if they were killed off in all this fighting, there would be no way for the underground to keep going.

It was a high priority threat to deal with.

I couldn't lie and I say that I wasn't grateful that I'd never agreed to put Frisk in a public school as of yet…

Hops was set up to be intercepted at any moment once he got off "work". Glyde waited on the ground while I waited above in the rafters of buildings or on rooftops. The capitol was crammed full with homes that made if difficult in the city to be aware of your surroundings, unless you could travel above and see the maze below. I was in the perfect position to watch from above and give out directions for Glyde and the guard to follow once everything fell into place. Ear piece was deeply into my left ear so I could listen in to Hops at the moment he was taken, and the wire on my shoulder I could speak into to communicate with the others. I had to speak in a very dumb deep manor to disguise my voice so the guards who knew me on a personal level (Undyne and Vinnie) wouldn't recognize me.

And then we'd open a whole other can of worms if that happened…

"And I hope you have a wonderful day as well sir!" Hops was eagerly selling the last of his cones before he closed up his little cart. "Sorry Folks! All sold out!"

I could vaguely hear in the background some of the other people who were eager for a frozen treat leave dejectedly. Hops only smiled and waved before taking his cart and began pushing it back toward his warehouse he had in the capitol to store it and make his ice creams.

And just like we expected, Amundo followed after him.

"Periwinkle, Amundo is closing in. Silver, the guard and I will follow at a distance." My chains quickly wrapped around myself and the ceiling of the underground before yanking me up to the glowing crystals on the cave's roof where I could watch from above and very rarely anyone would look.

"Shi! Periwinkle! Here he comes! Be ready to tell me where he goes if I lose 'em, Red."

"Understood." My eyes carefully cast out over the streets where I could barely see the ant sized figures of Hops and Amundo. I watched as the sleazy old man got closer and closer…

Until he made contact…
"Hello there friend. An interesting mark you have there."

"Ah! Hello! Yes, I was given this by my companion! He said someone of your description would come find me if I was… eager for something interesting."

"And this contact of yours?"

"He expressed to call him as 'Kidd'."

"Yes, it seems you know the right words. But do you have the right items?"

"I'm sure my wallet has all the 'items' you're looking for. If you weren't aware of the large line I sold my goods to on this day, I'm sure you have at least a rough idea of what I have on hand for this first session."

"That I do. I suppose you'll have to drop off this unsightly thing before you join me?"

"If I want to keep up this imagine I have, then yes."

"Very well. Meet me at the corner of Ruthford and Hartfelt. Once you go there, we'll show you the depths of our business. A pleasure meeting you."

And just like that Amundo was gone. He had dived into an alleyway and Hops lost him quickly, though our partner didn't attempt to follow.

"Should any of us attempt to follow?" I heard one of the royal guards ask in the background.

"No, stay away from Amundo. He's acting like that in order to lead us away. He's aware that some of his men have gone missing, so we need to prove to him that we're no threat, not until we find those children." I carefully hung above, using the lights of the crystals to blind anyone from seeing me while I kept eyes open above. "Periwinkle, continue with the operation. Assume that these people will check you for listening devices of any sort, you'll need to leave them behind when you drop off your cart. Doctor Alphys has already installed the device in your tooth, correct?"

"Yes, she did just four hours ago, and warned me not to chew on the left side to keep it protected."

"Good, take your time putting away the cart and don't arouse suspicion. While you do that, Silver, follow at a distance. The guard will move on your location once you have found the honey hole. I'll keep watch from above and try to decipher Amundo's message."

"Shi! Red! Amundo meant the streets of Ruthford and Hartfelt! They're right in the city's center!"

"It can't be that, not if he wants his operation found out. That's too close to the castle and far too close to the guard stations. No, it can't be. Allow me a moment to think it over."

"Got it Red!"

"Shi! Yes Ma'am."

I sighed, casting my gaze to the world below, I carefully looked out for anything that could give me a hint as for what I was looking for.

I had to think carefully about the hints that Amundo had dropped to Hops. I first started with the names he had given us, clearly meant to be somewhat of a distraction, while still being a hint. As Glyde had mentioned before, those were main streets directly in the capitol. Only one of two streets away from the entrance of Asgore's castle and the guard barracks, or where the royal guards train. There's no way he'd have it that close, we wouldn't have needed to work as hard as we had in that case if it was that easy.

My next thought was that it could be businesses that could have those names. Lots of small shops were littered throughout the capitol, but also larger name buildings as well. In the last month or so, I tried my hardest to get involved with as much social news as I could to store up knowledge like Sans could. Granted, I had nothing on that skeleton's mind. He soaked up everything and never forgot it.

It was somewhat annoying on occasion when he used it against me…

Thinking back, I knew I'd gone to new areas of the capitol with Sans in order to deliver some of my paintings. I vaguely did remember giving one to someone by the name of Maureen Hartfelt, the head of a small clothing shop in the upper end of the city. She ran it right by the river that led into the city center…

And that's when my mind rapidly moved and the world slowed, if only for a few seconds…

I remembered that day, handing over the painting of some of the unique flora in Waterfall to a woman who didn't get to leave her shop often, married to her business and raising her kids. She had pointed out to me a new client that was across from her on the same street: Ruth Ford.

Both of them lived on the end of the street right by where the river flows behind their homes. The river was nearly ten feet below the level of the house behind a sturdy fence due to the fall. It could kill someone. Though Sans also had mentioned that there was a flow of sewer pipes that led beneath the city that they could access from behind there. He'd snuck away there once or twice as a child.

I knew where we had to go.

"Periwinkle! If you're prepared to go, head toward the circle called Othera! You'll want to find the Hartfelt clothing shop and that's where you want to meet at!"

"Shi shi! You sure about that Red?"

"I know so, Silver." My chains quickly moved as I hurried to get into potion to help them. "Get ready everyone, we've got them now."

"Yes Ma'am!"

Back Home, Later That Day:

"Hold still Hops, we gotta get this wound cleaned before we can heal it."

"Owie… sorry…"

"Shi shi shi!" Glyde chuckled from his spot at the table with us. "That was pretty brave of you to take that hit for that kid."

"He was just a little boy! They were making him fight people three times his size!"

"We never said it was bad, Hops." The blue bunny turned his head to face me, while I stood over him with a hot cloth and disinfectant. I dabbled at his arm and the poor guy flinch, struggling not to move. "That was very brave of you. I think what we're trying to get at is just be a bit more careful next time. Getting glass and chemicals in your arm isn't exactly what we wanted to happen to you."

"I know…"

"Still, the operation is over, Undyne is reporting to the king and Sans is taking care of our statements. I think this was a good day for us."

"Shi shi! We should celebrate! Go out or something! I haven't been to Grillby's in a year! We should go there! He always makes the best food!"

Hops quickly agreed with his friend. "Oh yes! And he'll be happy to hear that Amundo is off the streets now so his little girl is safer than before!"

I gave a little tug on Hops arm to make him turn back around. "Not until we get this wound of yours taken care of, mister. Then we can go."

He pouted at me, reminding me a lot of my sister in those moments. "Okay…"

It was strange to be back at the house and have no one there with me. Papyrus had taken off to Undyne's for training as well as a hangout session once she finished up at the castle. Sans was at the capitol finishing up paperwork for us with the king. Maria had been kind enough to watch Frisk and let her stay the night so she could spend time with MK and Milly. The house was quiet and to myself. Sans would return within the next couple of hours, but before that, it was just I and my fellow jurymen.

Ones of which… I had a bit of a surprise waiting for them before we'd take off.

Back when Sans and I had met Blooky for the first time and my sister had expressed that she'd known him before, I spoke with Sans on hushed terms about trying to expand our friend circle a bit more.

Glyde and Hops had been at the top of the list he'd given me.

Sans had noted as well that Mappy most likely would be okay to tell. She was very gentle and more of a mothering figure then anything. And Mappy truly seemed to care about me, so Sans was nearly a hundred percent confident that she could be trusted.

It was still nerve wreaking though to put my identity out on the line like that…

Sans had asked me to hold off on telling any of the others yet. Muffet, Free and Shyren were all in a bit of the grey area and he wasn't sure just yet if it was a good idea without the help of other jury members to sway them, or for them to know me a bit more before revealing myself. Of all of them though, Sans had warned me against telling Whisk just yet. She was one that he couldn't read well and he didn't want to risk it, not yet, anyway.

So options were few, but better than before.

"Okay, let's try healing that now." I carefully had pulled the cloth away from the wounded bunny before using some healing magic on him. Quickly did his skin heal and the wound vanish, much like before he was hurt. Some fur was missing from the spot that was lost in the fight, but at least it would grow back and Hops wasn't seriously hurt.

"Thanks Ravie!" Hops latterly hopped from his seat and onto his feet, doing a little jig before gesturing toward the door. "Come on! Let's go talk with Grillby and get some food! I'm hungry!"

"Before we do… I kinda need to talk to you two about something."

Glyde narrowed his eyes a bit. "Shi… can't we do that at the restaurant?"

"It's not that we can't, but I think it would be better to do it not in front of a lot of people." I sighed and reached up to grab the edges of my hood. "You guys have been really good to me, it's only fair that I'm honest with both of you."

"Ravie?!" Hops tried to reach forward and stop me. "You don't need to show us your scars-!"

"It's not scars I'm hiding." Hops hand landed on my own, but he wasn't fast enough to stop the hood from falling off my head. He quickly blinked before he saw my face, my skin, my hair…

Saw that I was a human…

"Shi-oh! That… uh…" Glyde hissed out some broken words, more stunned then anything as he looked me over.

"Wait a second!" Hops only took a few moments to recognize me then. "You're that human from back in October! With the little girl! The one I sold nice cream too!"

"It's nice to truly see you again." I held out my hand for him to shake if he so chooses. "My name is Angel. I fell into the underground back in July of last year, about the time you saw me, two months later, Sans helped me get into the inn for a while before he and Papyrus allowed my sister and I to move in. She goes by Sitka before others, but her real name is Frisk."

"So our judge has been hiding a human all this time? And he helped her become part of the jury? Shi shi!" Glyde almost seemed to snicker then between his hissing, and a grin came from him. "That's interesting…"

"My sister and I… we've been trying to befriend the underground in hopes of not being killed. We wanted to start over a new life, after our last one on the surface wasn't as well as we wished. We're trying to survive; I'm trying to make a living and integrate us as best I can. Sans has been helping me, as well as the entire town of Snowdin…"

"That explains why they were so on edge when I came home around Christmas!" Hops gasped. "They didn't want me to know you were here in case I said anything! Glyde and I do come back to our home town on occasion, but mostly live on the outskirts in the woods, off the trails and what not!"

Hops literally was hopping, all of the house he went in his excitement. It appeared as though Glyde was amused by the situation while I felt hot embarrassment from exposing myself to the two of them. Did they hate me? Did they plan to report me? Was Sans wrong? I found that hard to believe… but they weren't making this easy to understand…

"We can talk about this more over food right? Shi!" Glyde reached over to rub the area where his stomach was. "I'm starved!"

I let out a shaky breath that was holding, seeing that the two of them were either happy or laughing at the situation. "I'm assuming you have little to no problem with me being a human then?"

"Shi! You got that right!" Glyde only waved his wing like arm in my direction in a very passive manner. "Now that we got that settled, can we go eat then?"

"Sure, let me just hang this up." Taking off my cloak, both males watched as I hid it from sight. "Grillby and his family already know about me being human, in fact, it will most likely be a relief to him that he can openly talk about it now."

"Oh, this is so exciting!" Hops leapt over the arm chair we had at the front until he made it to the door. Still hopping on his feet, he grabbed my arm. "Can you tell us about the world above?"

I could only smile as I saw the friend group I had continue to grow. It felt like every time I turned there was another amazing person that was willing to give me or my sister a chance, not naturally assume that we were evil and wished them imprisoned or dead.

I just hoped that one day I could complete this mission mine and be free to be myself in the underground, not hidden away by a cloak…

"What would you like to know?"

Witch's Note:

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! So exciting people! Oh my goodness! This is a great chapter as far as I'm aware because of another installment of the jury! And Angel has made more friends that she can rely on! So exciting!

But also scary since this is THE LAST FILLER CHAPTER BEFORE WE GET INTO SOME CRAZY JUNK!

Yes! You head me right! Some crazy chapters are about to head everyone's way! So, this is your last chance to review and note what you think is going to happen soon and get a sneak peak of it before it happens! Congratulations to our lovely reviewer Not A Shady Guy who DID manage to guess a small piece and was sent his reward via instant message! Now no asking him for hints and Shady Guy, no hinting to anyone either!

And now to our reviewers!

Not A Shady Guy: Hope you enjoyed your little sneak peek of the future! I had to keep it tiny to avoid you finding out too much just yet! But more is on the way soon enough! Like I said earlier, drama comes to us starting next week! Hope your excited for it!

(In the hidden base where Mystic Girl and ShunGod's base is hidden, the two of them cast their gaze to the outside word. With view over the old section of the building that had been destroyed building. Repairs were still in the words while the two kept quiet.)

(With that in mind, a few moments later a loyal member of their group emerged from the shadows. A bow of their head came first before both faced them.)

Loyal Member: Pardon the intrusion, but there has been some new from the apposing group of R.A.W.C. Something along the lines of Plan Black and Plan Unthinkable. The only information we've been able to gather so far from this is that all parties have been on high alert and watching non-stop at the locations we are aware their bases are. That's all I have to report.

Mystic Girl: Fine, go back to… whatever it was you were doing before. (She sighs as the member leaves and leans back against the stone rocks behind her. Ruffling her hair in her madness, she screeched before pounding it in her fury.) Are we seriously going to just-sit here? Wait? Its so boring! Why couldn't we have better intel about what those crazy people are doing?! What's so wrong about going after that damn mouse or his partners!?

(In response, ShunGod remained quiet. It wasn't smart to speak their thoughts so freely when there was a dastardly things going on. Even as Mystic Girl struggled to handle that, ShunGod stayed strong, quiet, and watching.)

RoseCentury: Rose! Oh, my goodness! You bought and animal your mother is allergic too and hope that it mates with the one you already have to keep it? My lord lady you are devious!

Oh boy! And here we go! Another week done and next week the craziness happens! Are you guys ready for this?! So excited! Mystic Girl and I are bouncing off the walls in our excitement!

Mystic Girl: Finally! Something is going on!

Me: Mystic Girl! You better not give anything away!

(She pouts at me, sticking out her tongue in the process.) I don't care! Excitement is going on! I can't wait until the part-

(My hand smacks over her mouth before she can reveal anything. The murderous aura that surrounds me has Mystic Girl shivering in her fright.)

Me: Not…a…word…
