Two Worlds, Two Souls
Chapter 48: The Fallout
Angel's Point of View:
"I finished Angel!" My sister eagerly showed me her empty dish between her fingers. "Can I go play some games with Papy?"
After carefully looking over her plate, I sighed and shoed her away. "Take care of your dishes first, and then yes."
"Yes! Thanks Sis!"
My sister was quick to leave the dinning area while Sans and I slowly ate at the rest of our meals in peace. Papyrus had finished his meal rapidly, eager to work on another level of one of the games that Sans had made on that night. It was one game that Sans had once described to me as old, well known royal guardsmen were used as playable characters with the challenge of defeating evil humans scattered across the underground to free the people of the underground. Papyrus had been working on it the last couple days he had off with my sister and was eager for her help in defeating a difficult level.
Frisk was also eager in starting her own level. She had a rough idea of how difficult it would be since Papyrus had been playing it all of the previous weekend while she did her homework, and since I lightened up on her load that week, I figured she deserved some free time to enjoy herself.
I could hear the younger one quickly playing while Sans and I took those moments to breathe. It had been a bit of busy day. The most recent case that Hops, Glyde and I had taken care of, Sans had finally laid that to rest today with Hops being the one to take over the case and watch the reforming of Amundo. Hops wanted to exhaust all options short of killing this man in order to show him the error of his ways, even if the court was against it. Even the ever gentle Mappy and the shy Shyren had agreed that this man would never reform and would be imprisoned for life (a very terrible waste of our resources that could be used for those children rather than keeping a villain alive) or death.
Whisk (as always) had gone with the harsher punishment. At that moment, however, she hadn't been wrong in this case. That man was very sick. Using children for fighting as well as many other terrible things when we fully explored the compound. I couldn't remember the number of girls that had been kidnapped for years that had been used for 'fun tools' for the good paying men that visited this operation.
Some of them were pregnant with their captors' children…
It was so sickening that even myself, a person who tried their best to find the middle ground and continue to strive for the higher path, could not find any other avenue best for this man other then death. He ruined and destroyed so many children's lives that would take years to recover from. Others that also would normally go against those kinds of intense punishments had agreed unanimously that he should be put to death. He was no person that should continue to live and haunt the lives of others.
Hops was the only one who wasn't for death, it was his belief (much like Papyrus') was that he could change, that he could reformed. Yet how could a man who had done so much evil and hurt so many be saved? None of us believed he could and it came down to Sans to have any suggestions to end the trial quickly.
So, we had managed to make out a secretive deal with Hops that our newest criminal would be given three premade ways to escape from prison. We would watch him and treat him as we did other criminals and see if he attempted to escape jail from any of those methods we would provide for him. If he did, he would be executed within those very hours of being caught. Alphys would be installing cameras in those three ways to escape, Hops had to try and reform him in order for him to escape that fate, and that damn bunny took the challenge on…
I was worried how long this would honestly last before Hops would either give in or be proven that the man couldn't change.
But at least it was over. Sans had noted that as of the sentencing of Amundo, there were no other suspicions people to keep our eyes on and for the time being, we could take a bit of a break. With the exception of those of us who already had previous inmates to look after, the rest were provided a break.
Unfortunately, that didn't include myself.
I still had to spend many hours of my week days checking in on Sly, Slick and Harry. The former two were actually doing very well and had taken on new varieties of jobs as well as education during the hours they worked and afterward as well. Over the course of the last few months, the two of them had managed to scrape up eight thousand each.
A quite incredible haul if I do say so myself…
I was incredibly proud of both of them as they strived to get closer to the amount they owed back to the kingdom. Both had a long way to go however if they wished to escape much before their young lives were over. Since the separation of the males, their totals have been reduced as well to be in thirds. The true math of splitting up five hundred thousands gold was going to be roughly about one hundred and sixty six thousand. Granted, after appealing to King Asgore and Sans, they both agreed that with the hard work they were putting in, it would be okay to reduce it. It was pulled down to a courteous amount of one hundred and sixty five thousand, even.
However, we neglected to tell them that little piece yet.
One of the biggest fears that we had at those moments was that perhaps the boys could go back into their old ways if we told them that we were reducing the sentence amount. It was offered by Sans to keep that hidden. Especially since Harry, the final inmate that hadn't realized how much of an idiot he'd been, hadn't been working much at all. Only what he needed to get by. We would have to review and change his plan soon since it was getting out of hand. His final total we had kept at the original amount for many reasons. Many that would take too long to list…
But that would be something I would work on at the next meeting I had with the king and Sans together on the following Monday.
Other thoughts had been plaguing my mind as of the last few weeks. Thoughts I wanted to bring to the attention of Sans, but I knew for a fact that he wouldn't receive them well. In all honesty, I knew he would be pissed about the subject and shoot it down before I would even have a chance to say much.
I wanted to see about revealing ourselves to Undyne…
I knew it wasn't perhaps a good idea… but I felt terrible holding this secret away from her, what my sister and truly were. I just had this feeling that if we used our knowledge of how our meeting with Vinnie went back during Christmas, it would be easier. Vinnie was one of those few we knew wouldn't go well, but with his entire family on our side and the town of Snowdin, we were able to show how we hadn't meant any harm.
It gave me faith.
Alphys and Papyrus were some of her closest friends. She treasured them very dearly and I hoped that their opinions would sway her even slightly. I knew she had no family for me to befriend, so I couldn't quite do everything exactly the same as the last time. I hoped that close friends would be enough… especially since the only man she saw as a secondary father figure was not someone who I could ask for help on this, being the king and all…
"Precious?"
I jumped at the sound of Sans' voice. He was leaned against the counter next to me as I did the dishes. I looked below me and saw that there were no more dishes for me to wash. All of them were drying so that the younger ones could take care of them in a few hours' time.
I hadn't realized he was so close… how long had I been standing there?
"I think ya got it all." His causal looking stance was nothing of the sort as he looked at me. His posture was stiff as he stood in his comfy clothes. "Somethin' ya wanna share?"
"I guess… I just don't know how to word it…" I sighed and pulled my slightly prune-like hands from the soapy water. "You won't like what I want to talk about."
Sans raised a boney bone brow at me. "Eh? Welp, ya might as well spit it out. If ya know I won't like it, just get it over with."
"Okay then…" I sucked in a breath to try and steel my never. "I'd like to pose the idea of revealing myself to Undyne."
And just as I expected, when I looked over Sans' form, he'd gone stiff. He wasn't expecting that to be what I wanted to talk about. I could see the irritation already growing in his features as he stood there.
Oh dear… I'd done it then…
"No."
"Sans… please…" I turned fully to the skeleton who then tried to turn away from me if it wasn't for my fingers on his arm. "I'm not asking that we do it tomorrow or anything in the immediate future-"
"No Angel." Sans cut me off quickly. Refusing to look at me, I could feel him shaking beneath my hand. "End of discussion."
"Sans! Why?" I cut off the male's path as he tried to make a rushed retreat. I tried to keep my voice hushed even as it was already higher than I'd wanted. The little ones couldn't hear us… "Explain to me why you won't even talk about it! I won't understand unless you do that!"
"And what part of 'no' don't ya get?" His words came out hotly to me, almost an animalistic growl in the back of his throat. "She'd kill ya on the spot before ya'd even have a chance ta talk."
"And that's why I wanted to discuss with you a strategy of some sort. I wanted to know your opinion-"
"Well my 'opinion' is hell ta no." Sans stopped trying to escape then from me, but the look on his skull hurt more then his words did at the time…
I never wanted to see him like that… but I couldn't just let this conversation die like all the other times I tried to ask him in the past…
"Then when can we talk about? What else do you need?"
"More time, not tonight."
"Sans-"
"How many times do I gotta say 'no' before it finally gets through yer thick skull?"
That stung… that hurt a lot…
But that wasn't the end…
I didn't know if it was just me asking this or if something else was involved, but in those moments, Sans seemed like a bottle of soda that had been shaken up one too many times… and the top had finally burst off…
"There's no way in hell that yer ever gonna get Undyne ta accept you! Ya'd have a better chance of convicin' the king and him fuckin' orderin' her ta not touch you! She hates humans that much! Didja forget that her father was killed by yer kind? She would tear ya ta shreds before ya could say a single word! And where would that leave yer sister? Pap? Or me?"
"Every person that I've revealed myself to could have hurt me too! But they didn't! Look at what happened with Vinnie-"
"Yer damn lucky that ya had me and Bernie there along with the entire town! That shit matters to him, not Undyne!"
"You can't be seriously telling me she'd kill someone just to get to me!"
"Asgore lost his family ta humans too! Do you think that he left that detail out and didn't tell Undyne? Hell no! And it made 'er even more infuriated at yer kind!"
"I can't believe that she wouldn't have at least some mixed feelings if I told her I was Ravie!"
"She'd sooner kill ya thinkin' you were trying to take over her life!"
"Sans! Why-"
"ENOUGH!" His bellow echoed out into the room and an eerie silence followed. My enlarged eyes watched in bated breath, emotionally drained and unable to understand him in that night like I normally could. I couldn't hold back the tears from both frustration and sadness. "I'm done listenin' ta this shit! Don't brin' it up again! There's no way in hell ya or any of us can change her mind, so just accept it and forget it!"
I couldn't help the screech that left me when Sans whipped his phone out of his pocket and hurled it at the countertop toward the basement door. I struggled to hold back few ounces of fear I held in my soul as Sans ignored the device as it dinged and dung while he stormed away, only making it three steps before teleporting away in a large flash of blue.
"Sans!" The thundering of footsteps hurried after him, it was Papyrus who called out after him. I couldn't see the younger skeleton, but could vaguely hear him yelling at Sans through his bedroom door while I was left to wallow in the kitchen.
It hurt… it hurt so much…
He didn't think I could do it… he wanted me to give up…
The only person who ever believed in me… he didn't believe in me…
"Sis…?" My head shot up to gaze at my sister. "Are you okay?"
I couldn't respond to her. My head sunk back into my arms as I struggled to hold back the sobs that threatened to escape me…
Why… why did he hurt me like that?
Witch's Note:
Oh my God! Here we go! Welcome to the madness my dear readers and prepare for a ride for here is where all our problems begin! This start our second half of the story where-for a while-nothing will be normal and those cutsie moments between Sans and Angel, as you can see with them being a happy family… aren't going to be around for a while!
God damn it man, he didn't have to yell at her so hard…
But alas, let us speak over to our reviewers this week!
RoseCentury: Welp, should I say sorry or glad that the bird went back? I'm kind confused on what to say, but at least we got some dram here now for ya Rose!
Not A Shady Guy: Well, I'm glad you got to enjoy your sneak peak Shady! It won't be long 'til the others get to see the piece I gave you, and you'll recognize it in the upcoming chapters! That piece is placed twice! But that's the only hint you get!
BTW yeah, I wouldn't recommend taking that trafficking guy… not much left there to work with. The only mention I'm ALLOWING to be used is the one you suggested! XD
By the way, you better run because Mystic Girl saw what you wrote and all hell is gonna break-
(Mystic Girl comes running over to my computer as she sees me typing up this message.)
Mystic Girl: Your MESSGING him?!
Me: Yes….? Why…?
Mystic Girl: Halloween! Didn't you SEE what he wrote?!
Me: Yeah…? And? You remember that I'm on his team… right?
Mystic Girl: UGGGG! (She then storms off in the distance to go and destroy something in her wake.
Me: Yeah… he better run…
ShunGod: Well, its lovely to see you back again, but clearly you're here for Mystic Girl so let me pass the mike.
(I move away from my computer and Mystic Girls sits there hesitantly, knowing that I very rarely allow others to use my laptop. She sits there to see the message to her and begins to type rapidly.)
Mystic Girl: Okay, I need the details on this plan. Let's get those fuckers.
