Two Worlds, Two Souls
Chapter 49: Fleeing
Angel's Point of View:
I never thought things would come to this…
My fight with Sans… it left my heart aching in just endless sorrow. I never guessed or anticipated that I would have a fight with him like that. Of that very level… him yelling at me, screaming… I didn't think he was even capable of that…
I had no idea how to feel… I had no idea how to react…
Even as the hour of midnight rolled around, I couldn't sleep due to the dread in my stomach. I couldn't get our fight out of my head.
Maybe he and I… needed a break from one another…
I never thought I'd think that…
I rose from my bed. I hadn't been able to sleep after the fight. Frisk had come to sleep at the same time that I did, though I knew she was awake. My sister looked up at me when she saw me standing up.
"Sis?" Frisk's tone held plenty of worry in it. She watched me carefully as the tears still streamed down my face after Sans rushed off in a huff of anger, leaving me to cry on the kitchen floor.
"I think… we may need to go stay with Alphys for a while. She won't mind."
It honestly didn't matter to me in those moments if she did or didn't. Alphys was the eyes and ears of the underground. She knew about everything that didn't take place in someone's house. If she were still up at that ungodly hour, she would keep an eye on us and send me updates. She wouldn't get mad at us… she'd love the company…
And I should probably let her know we're coming.
"Try and call Alphys. Let her know we're coming, and if she doesn't answer… just text her, okay?"
"Okay…" I could feel the calculating stare coming from my sister. Never did I think I'd see that look again once we had settled down in the underground. I just wanted her to be happy. I hated how I had to uproot her again for one of my problems…
But I couldn't just leave her with Sans and Papyrus… that wasn't fair to them to just leave her in their care when she was my responsibility.
While my sister did those few things, I packed a couple of small bags for us to use, leaving the larger items such as my canvases and paint supplies there. I packed a few of the balls and games that Frisk had been given for Christmas so she'd have something to use once we had gotten out to our friend's lab.
With our bags packed with our clothing, I reached to pull on our cloaks to cover our appearance. I pulled the backpack over my shoulder and motioned Frisk along behind me.
"Let's go."
Quietly we walked down the stairs, not a peep escaping either of us as we passed the doors of the brothers and made it down to the front door. I opened it, a gust of icy wind blasting at us before Frisk and I made it outside, and I closed the door.
Later that Night (Twelve Thirty-Two):
Waterfall's square came into view only half an hour later as my sister and I quietly walked the streets. Some small business still ran at the ridiculous hours for those that drank and enjoyed the nightlife. We stayed away from others as we traveled into the streets. I could also see a random member of the guard here and there as we passed, though none seemed to bother us as we walked as we were not causing any trouble.
Frisk was quiet as we traveled. She held my hand with a loose grip. I could only imagine the thoughts swimming in her head since I had her leave with me. I wasn't sure how she felt toward Sans, was she angry? Upset with the turn of events?
Or was she unhappy with me because I took her away from Papyrus?
Her best friend we left behind because of my selfishness… Even more dread I could feel settle on my soul as we traveled.
"Angel?" I felt a tug on my arm and I raced to look. Frisk had pulled me to a stop and pointed behind us. "MK followed us."
"What?" I glanced past her to see our yellow lizard friend approaching. The shirt he was wearing was practically falling off him that had not been pre-stitched by his mother to avoid new clothing falling off of him as he ran.
MK panted before he skidded to a stop next to me. He sucked in air for a moment before his head rose and he glared his eyes right at me.
"What the heck are you doing?!" MK latched his teeth onto my cloak and tried to pull me along with him. "We have to go home!"
"MK, what are you doing out here so late?" I kneeled before the boy, and he released my cloak. I assumed the fight was over; thought it was not from the dive he made to the space behind me and began pushing me, back in the direction of Snowdin.
"I saw you leave! Why?"
He shirking was attracting others. I cursed as I saw a few heads turn in our direction and I tried to hush him.
"MK, hush! You're attracting attention!" I hissed at him, hoping he would get the point and stop his loud tune.
Alas, the child did not.
"No! You need to come home!"
"MK, please! Hush!"
"But-"
"Is everything alright over here?"
I flinched in response as a guardsmen came over to us. I could see the crest on his plate to show he was part of Undyne's group, the royal guard. He was the one that had dragon like features as I saw that the tail and some scaled ears peak out from the edges of his armor. I think Vinnie had mentioned his name was Ryu.
But that wasn't the time to think that, I had to get away.
"My apologies sir, my little ones here were just reminding me how urgently that we needed to get home from how late it was. One of their friend's parties ran very late, much later then we were planning."
"Oh?" The guard paused for a moment and I held my breath in anticipation. "Yes, you three should get going on home. It's very late and there's not as many guards as in the day time."
"Of course sir, our apologies for bothering you." I gave a nudge to the scowling lizard below me. "Come along, let's fix that shirt of yours before we head home."
"But Ravie-"
"Don't argue with me." My tone made his eyes water, but the determination in his eyes didn't waver. "March."
With the help of my sister, we managed to get MK away from the guard and stopped before a bench where I could have the little boy sit down while I fixed his shirt. I could see where Maria had some of the stitches still pulled out to adjust its size, but that wasn't possible at the moment without the proper materials. I took that second to tie his arms around his back to at least help hold it against him and tie part of the neck tighter as well to keep it from falling over his shoulders.
I sighed once MK was taken care of and looked at him with tired eyes. "Please MK, don't do that again. We nearly were caught by guard members that aren't aware that we're human…"
"That's why we have to go home!" The little lizard huffed at me, irritation and hurt all over his features. "Why did you leave?"
"Sweetie… Frisk and I are going to be spending some time in Hotland with another friend of ours. Sans and Papyrus thought it would be a good idea to try and befriend others in that area. We're going to stay with Doctor Alphys Chordata."
"And you had to leave in the middle of the night?"
God, why did this child have to choose now to know common sense?!
"It's not forever… just a few weeks-"
"Then you can leave tomorrow! When Sans can take you! Or Papyrus!" He latched his teeth onto my cloak in an attempt to pull me along. "We need to go home!"
And I wanted nothing more than that. I could help but feel hurt as I thought back to the raging face Sans showed me before he'd gone to bed that night. As much as I wanted to go back, I couldn't.
"MK, please go home. Leave us be." I tugged my robes from his mouth and the boy fell onto the ground. He landed on his butt, tears still welled in his eyes. He struggled to get up without the help of another. Using his chin, he tried getting up without help, but there was nothing for him to brace himself on while he looked at me in rage.
I wanted so badly to reach out, to comfort him or to help him up, but I knew he would just slow us down and make us go back.
I knew someone in the guard would help him home…
"Sis?" Frisk carefully looked up at me from behind her robes. I could only imagine the sad look on her face, struggling with rage and tears as she gripped my hand tightly in her own.
"Let's go."
Later That Night (One Thirty-Five)
We left the little lizard boy behind as we headed deeper into Waterfall. The streets began to empty more and more the further we walked, coming close to the deeper sections I normally didn't travel without Sans. We had made it past the square where most others tended to gather along with the hundreds of shops.
We honestly had managed to make it to the area that overlooked the junkyard where trash and old parts and equipment fell for us to use. Piles were cast high here in the area for a few miles, as far as I could see anyway. Frisk and I had made good progress in the near two hours that we'd been down here.
"Sis?" I carefully glanced down at my sister, only to notice the faint panting in her voice. "Can we stop for a second?"
"Of course." I carefully looked around until I saw a bench that my sister and I could rest at. One that looked out over the area filled with trash, the bench was centered to look out to a waterfall about half a mile away from us that led down into the depths.
With my sister seated, I handed her the large bottle of water I'd snagged form the house. "Here, take a moment to rest and drink some water. I'm… going to call Sans… leave him a message…"
"Okay."
My sister said no other words as she sipped at her water. I knew she would have words for me later, once we were safely tucked away inside Alphys' lab, but she was keeping herself contained, knowing how dangerous it was to speak out in an area that could get us killed if the wrong person found us…
Cold air filled with water blasted at me while I took a second to step away from my sister and look out over the waterfall. With a quick glance to the area and seeing no one, I dared to pull down my hood to feel the cold mist against my cheeks. It felt nice, the water on my face. It had been a near sprint off in the direction further into Waterfall to escape MK from finding us. The little lizard was hell bent to get us back to Snowdin. I couldn't, however, do just that. Every time I tried to think of turning around and stopping the foolish idea that I have in my head…
I saw Sans' face, his infuriated face when he yelled at me, and I couldn't bear to see it. The glow of his eye when he finally lost his cool, the look that drove you away before he'd even lifted a finger from his pockets.
It hurt too much… I…
I didn't want to see it again…
Why couldn't I just have stopped the conversation? I knew he wouldn't agree…
Why didn't I shut up?
Why didn't I drop it?
Why was I such an idiot?
Why couldn't I let it go…?
I had Frisk to think of… I couldn't let myself get distracted… even by Sans himself…
I sighed, trying to push the thoughts from my mind, no matter how they tried to push themselves back to the front of my thoughts. With a few moments of hesitation, I then pulled out my phone.
I tried to call Papyrus first, thinking that he might actually have his phone by his side. When the moments ticked by and I heard nothing but his amazing message for those that couldn't reach him, I knew that he was out cold and his phone nowhere in reach.
Then I tried Sans…
Granted, I had to admit that I paused for a while as I did so. I was nervous to call him. Someone that I had no problems with calling in the past. And yet…
Then I couldn't. I struggled to hold back more fresh tears as I finally sucked up my fear and courage to hit the dial button.
I honestly didn't think that I'd reach him, especially after he'd thrown his phone in the kitchen before he'd run out on me.
My gut feeling had been correct when I was sent quickly to voice mail.
"Hey, this is Sans. Leave a message."
While his phone was giving instructions on what to do since I hadn't been able to reach him, I struggled to take a calming breath so I wouldn't sound like I was on the brink of destruction.
Even if both my sister and I both knew that I was…
"Hey, I didn't think you'd pick up." I paused for a moment to collect what few thoughts I had to try and put forth sentences and something coherent… if he ever decided to listen to the message, of course. "I guess I was hoping that you wouldn't be as mad as you'd been. I'm… sorry. I didn't want to make you mad… I just wanted you to understand how difficult it was to hide such a secret from a friend."
I took a quick second to look back at Frisk who was glancing off in another direction then me. I focused back to the waterfall, using its calming sound of crashing waves to keep me sane.
"I'm sure you'll be worried sick when you don't find us at the house, but we'll be okay. Frisk and I are heading to Alphys' for a bit until we cool down a bit. If I don't hear from you or Papy by the afternoon, I'll give you guys another ca-"
"Sis! Watch out!"
And that's where it all went wrong…
My sister dove at me, shoving the two of us to the side then. Into the dirt, we landed as a barrage of spears came flying at us from above. I had only a second to stop feeling sorry for myself and self-defense kicked in with chains that shot out and protected Frisk and I from the spears.
And that's when I realized just who used that kind of magic…
From before us, only thirty of so feet away stood a large figure in heavy armor with red hair escaping from the back. Red hair that I recognized immediately. In their hand was a single blue, glowing spear that was pointed right at us.
"You damn humans!" Undyne's voice rang out into the area while I scrambled to my feet, pulling Frisk with me. "Halt in the name of King Asgore! I, Undyne, head of the royal guard, will capture you and bring freedom to my people!"
I cursed as I saw the very person who brought about all the frustration and confusion in this night. Undyne stood before us, raring to go.
Ready to kill us for her freedom…
"God damn it!"
Witch's Note:
Oh boy… oh boy… OH BOY! Here we go folks! The beginning of the madness! Who's ready to start this… multi-chapter long chase sequence? Oh yes, that's what this is! Multiple chapters where I'm going to being abusing the hell out of my characters!
Who's ready for this?!
And did any one love the little bit with MK? God he's adorable and can be quite the smartie when he wants to be! Can't wait for you guys to see more of him in the future.
And now for some words to our reviewers!:
ShunGod: Lovely to see you again! However… we… need to have a chat. All four of us. You, me, Mystic Girl and Not A Shady Guy. Think it might be time we call a truce and settlement for a few chapters since Angel is on the run and I am not okay with you threatening to blow up anyone. If you so try to, this story will out on hiatus-
(A slamming sound could be heard in the single room we were doing negotiations in. Mystic Girl had been the one to slam down her hands on the table to cut me off.)
Mystic Girl: Halloween! You can't do that! What about the rest of the story! We worked on it for forever!
Me: Try me, Mystic. I am the author that posts every week. Last I knew you didn't have access to all the files.
Mystic Girl: You outright royal bit-
Me: Are you really going to try that tone while am the only ones with access to the other remaining forty-three chapters?
(Mystic Girl and the others around the table sweat as my hands hover over the large DELETE button. My partner's eyes go wide and she resorts to falling to her knees to beg.)
Mystic Girl: NO! Please don't! Anything but that! We worked so hard on those chapters! A-and you're working on the second story! You wouldn't let that go to waste, right? You're almost twenty chapters in and in such a amazing spot that you were so hyped to write!
Me: While true, I don't appreciate the bombs going off behind my back. I don't like being interrupted by the war going on and the stress I have to deal with as you're all trying to steal and kill of my characters when I still need them. (I sigh and look to the others sitting at the table.) Look, you want someone to play with? That Amundo guy is all yours and your welcome to do as you wish to him. Save him, kill him, don't care. He's done and over with and I won't be using him again. However, I'm NOT done with Robert, Sly, Slick or Harry. I need them for quite a bit longer. They're off limits right now, understand?
(Not a single person rose against me in those moments, I sighed and pulled out my trusty laptop to continue where I left off.)
Me: Good. Balls in your courts now, gents. Now I gotta get back to writing. Mystic Girl, go get me a tea please? I'd love a nice ginger one with lots of honey.
(My so-called best friend however was balling her fists in her anger.)
Mystic Girl: Go get it yourself you bitch!
(With that she stormed off in her anger. I sighed. I honestly never planned on deleting such a lovely story that we worked so hard on, but I had to put down my boundaries as my anger was reaching an all time high for the safety of my characters.)
Not A Shady Guy: Okay, so… Angel didn't quite go the route you were thinking of, but hey! They're spending quality time together now, right? Isn't Undyne just the best person ever?
Oh yeah! That's what happened to Amundo! I was wondering about that, but… like I said, he's not needed anymore, so have at it.
(I just simply walk out of the room the poor monster is being… ehm… "dealt" with in. Screams echoed out as I continued to ignore him.)
RoseCentury: Spring break? Rose, that's quite a ways away. Not sure from where you hail, but wouldn't Christmas come first? Or if you're in America, there would be Thanksgiving for other small vacations first before spring break?
Okay, there's another chapter! Oh my goodness I'll be super excited to post the next one! I hope you guys are loving the madness that's only just begun! Love you all and see you next week!
