Two Worlds, Two Souls

Chapter 57: Flirting

Papyrus' Point of View:

I, the Great Papyrus, was always a very hopeful and happy individual. One that knew that all people could be good, if they just tried a little harder than they were. I knew our human family members were good, and my brother knew that as well. Many of our friends and the entire town of Snowdin also seemed to agree with that logic. So, when Undyne, my other best friend, never did for the longest of time, I could not lie and say that I had partly given up hope.

Then to find the two of them making spaghetti together in the kitchen was quite the surprise when I had woken so many hours later.

Our sleeping habits were a tad off since Angel and Frisk had run away in the night and had been chased by Undyne. Many of us tended to sleep on rotation to make sure someone was always there to rest with Angel and keep nightmares away from her. Most of us only are able to get away for ten minutes or so before she instantly succumbs to them without the touch of another.

Poor Angel… it was very difficult to only sit there and watch, unable to assist her anymore then we already were.

Though Alphys and Sans were working diligently to bring her back to good health. She was no longer pale; her blood count was much better than it had been when Little Frisk had brought her in. Her breathing was no longer labored and her body seemed to absorb all the nutritional bags that Alphys would set up for her. Alphys made sure that either she or Sans were able to monitor her, especially due to Sans' science background. Therefore, he had an idea of medical knowledge and make of a human body.

My brother tended to spend a lot of time with her during the day, taking many naps when Frisk and I no longer slept. He guarded her, hardly left her side other than to care for his needs. I knew my brother felt immense guilt for the way he treated Angel during that night nearly half a week ago. I watched him some days, he talked to her in the night, when he thought he was alone. The regret that came from his words, I'd… I'd never heard my brother speak so painfully before. Not since our father's death…

Angel seemed not to respond to our words. She couldn't seem to wake, yet Alphys warned us that this was very normal for those who went through tremendous amounts of trauma, both physical and mental.

Yet, there was some positivity that came from all of it. Undyne had gotten close to Little Frisk, starting to treasure her as a friend. It seemed their previous relationship when Little Frisk still pretended to be Little Sitka had blossomed through the ordeal. While Undyne was still hesitant on humans living peacefully in the underground, she was actively trying to be friends and do things together.

Granted, my brother teasing her about being unable to do such a feat certainly had an effect on her...

The fifth day of Angel lying about on her bed came around and finally my brother and I put in for vacation time to spend with her. Not knowing the length of her recovery, we put in for roughly a month that we'd both saved up for. The story that Sans had asked me to use when others called us was that our cousin Ravie had gotten into a training accident that left her quiet hurt and unwell. Sitka, myself and Sans were assisting in her care while away from home. We've not given out the location in the instance that someone else could harm Angel while she recovers, and Frisk practices her magic.

It was much like an overnight change for the young girl. In a single night, she obtained the needed amount of determination for being able to use her abilities at a much higher level. Frisk was able to pull up to ten chains away from her body at once and use them fluently in travel and protection. Even offensive maneuvers were becoming easier for her.

Granted, it was still minuscule compared to Angel, who could wrap an entire room in chains, though it was still a vast improvement compared to the single chain she had hardly any control over. Now it was closer to ten that she could do effortlessly and when she tried to add on any more that, she struggled.

It was definitely a win for my best friend!

"Come on, Punk!"

Undyne seemed to glow with eagerness as she and Frisk practiced with their magic in the extra room that Alphys had provided them. After the first so many days, Sans deemed it safe enough for Frisk not to be in his line of sight at all times. He really took to protecting Frisk right after the event and kept her close. I could only assume he was trying to keep Frisk safe in where he was unable to with Angel.

Yet, Undyne had given them a chance, one that Frisk was using to her entire potential. When my brother saw that, there was little he could do to hold her back from assisting with her sister making friends with everyone in the underground.

Undyne, to my utter surprise, was much better about making friends with our human housemates then I anticipated.

"Block this Undyne!" Frisk was midair, her chains wrapped around into the corner of a room with some pipes she used as leverage. Three chains she sent out away from her to attack at Undyne while another four were guarding Frisk's body.

With a wide grin that only our scaled friend could pull off, Undyne summoned a spear and deflected the attack with ease, yet Frisk was not one to give up hope. She swung down from the ceiling and closed in on Undyne, eager to try and land any sort of hit. Undyne could only smile in glee at the challenge as she trained the young human with me.

"Is that all you got, Punk?"

"No way!" Frisk threw out a few more chains in retaliation as she ran at the older female. "I'm not going to lose this time!"

"Ha! We'll see about that!"

I watched from the sidelines while Sans and Alphys took care of Angel's needs in the other room. Once a day, Alphys cleaned Angel so that she was not filthy while Sans took care of nutrition and vitals, then he would take a nap with her and explain things, or simply talk.

I'd only walked in on that once before nearly being caught. Sans got too wrapped up in Angel at times to notice others... I wondered if I should have worried...

I was suddenly brought back to the present when Frisk was hurled at my feet from where Undyne had suplexed the younger girl over her shoulder. Frisk groaned in pain after sitting upward before pouting at Undyne.

"Damn it! I thought I had you this last time!

Undyne chuckled at her behavior. "Not in this life time, Punk."
"Little Frisk!" I clicked my tongue at her at her. "You know better than to use such language! Your sister would have an absolute fit!"

Frisk only showed me a large grin. "What Sis doesn't know right now won't hurt her. So don't tell her."

"Yeah... that ain't gonna fly, Kiddo."

All of us glanced over to Sans who stood at the entrance of the room we used for training. A lazy grin showed on his face to show his ease, telling us today was a day that Angel was most likely doing well, or better than before. Alphys was not with him, as I would have suspected. Someone had to always be with Angel, the only exception to this had been Undyne, who had not stayed with her without the accompany of one of the four of us.

"Sans!" Frisk grumbled at him. "Come on!"

"Nope," Sans chuckled while he held a clipboard in his hands. "Bein' one of the only adults here with common sense, and bein' yer guardian in Angel's stead, yer grounded."

"WHAT?! Not fair!"

"Don't care." Sans waved her off quickly. "A hundred push-ups, get ta it."

Grumbling, our friend marched over to the spot that was pointed out to her and she began her push-ups, she alternated between using chains to push herself up and using her own arms, trying to practice both her physical body and her magic.

Sans had been true to his agreement to help train Frisk and to make her stronger in the few days prior, and Undyne certainly helped as well. She never minded entraining training, I suppose she saw it as a game most of the time...

But Undyne also saw how Frisk never tried to land a harmful blow, she never tried to truly hurt Undyne, only wear her out. And that was not lost to our friend.

"What's up, Dork?" Undyne took the moment to close in on Sans. Her arms crossed as she glanced to my brother.

"Maria just gave me a call. The house repairs in the kitchen are nearly done." Sans shrugged and stuffed his hands into his pockets. "The livin' room will be a bit longer, but it's gettin' there."
Undyne struggled to hold back the hiss in her words. "You seriously didn't interrupt our training for just that?"

"Nah," Sans grin reminded me of what Angel would call a 'Cheshire cat'. "Angel's startin' ta improve, Al thinks she'll recover hopefully in the next week or two. Hopefully wake up before then, too."

"Oh, that's great news, Brother!" The excited cheer came from my teeth before I could stop it.

Frisk snickered from over in her corner. "Does that mean you're gonna start flirting with my sister again?"

Sans did not look impressed by that, his happier mood ruined.

"Yer gonna regret that Kiddo." Sans turned on his heel to leave the room, most likely to return to Angel's side. "Add another hundred push-ups. Make sure she does it Pap."

"WHAT?!" Frisk stopped mid push-up to show a scowl to my brother. "That's so not fair!"

"I'll make it two." My brother merely grinned as she backed down quickly, knowing fully well that he would.
"Come on, Frisk." Undyne raced to line up beside the poor girl. "We'll do those two hundred together. Bet I could beat you at it!"

"No way!" Frisk's competitive side came out and the two of them raced at it. "I'm already fifty ahead of you!"

"Oh yeah?"

Undyne and Frisk were quick to race each other in the sport while I turned back to my slightly flustered brother. Sans hid his face behind his hood while he turned to leave.

"I'm headin' up Pap, see ya later."

"Good-bye, Brother!" I waved him away before turning to the two females. Frisk was quickly tiring while Undyne was still racing to beat her in this competition. "Come now Little Frisk, you should know better than to irritate Sans. You know he will father you, much like Angel mothers you."

Frisk paused for a moment to catch her breath. "But it's fun…"

"What the hell is Sans getting so hung up over?" Undyne slowed the pace of her push-ups to have a conversation with us. Her golden eye glowed in curiosity at the subject.

Before I could say anything, Frisk grinned at tapped her shoulder with a chain.

"It's because Sans likes her."

"You're shitting me!"

"Nope!"

"Little Frisk!" I couldn't hold back the scowl. "You know how sensitive Sans is to that subject!"

"What?!" She halted in her moment while she took time to pout at me. "You know it's true!"

"That is not the point!"

"So wait a minute Pap." Undyne cut me off before another comment could filter out. "She's telling the truth?"

A dramatic sigh left me then. "…Yes. Little Frisk and I have always noticed the looks that Angel and Sans have given one another, and the way they interact. Just last winter, the two of them were sleeping together on the couch. Though for once, Sans was not sleeping, but watching Angel. I am not sure how exactly he got her to sleep on top of him, but she looked very content."

"They act like a couple all the time and have pet names for each other." Frisk giggled at the though. "Darling for him and Precious for her."

"I can't believe it…" Undyne seemed truly stunned by this information. "I guess that would make sense why Sans is so protective of her… How long has this been going on?"

"Since before I met them, I assume." I couldn't really say much since I didn't meet Angel until well into October.

"They were flirting with each since before we left our home in the ruins!"

Oh how I wish I could stop her…

"Really?" Undyne turned in a second and flipped over to sit and face Frisk, no longer trying to compete with her. "That long?"

"We used to live with a monster up in the ruins, she took care of us. Angel I think met Sans back in the summer, she used to get up really early to meet him so Tori and I didn't know." Frisk admitted, setting herself down to sit with us. Even I sat among them to listen in. "Tori wasn't happy about it in the beginning, since she worried that Sans would hurt us, or get us captured. But he didn't. He was the first person Angel trusted fully down here. I think she trusted him more than Tori."

"Damn… Does she like him too?"

"Oh yeah, she totally does." Frisk pretended to bat her eye lashes in a flirty sort of way. "There's no way she can't like him. Honestly, I think she loves him."

"Even if she's never said anything, the attraction seems to be there." I lowered my sockets from them. "Sans seems truly torn by the events that took place. He's devastated that she may not make it… It honestly reminds me of the time just after Father had died."

"Pap… I had no idea…" Undyne's webbed fingers landed on my shoulder blade. "I wish I'd know you had such cool humans living with ya. I didn't know how much they meant to ya, or that humans weren't really all that bad. But all we can do now is hold on and let Al and Sans work their magic to get her back on her feet. Okay?"

"Yes, I suppose that is all we can hope to do at this point." A sigh escaped me before I scowled in Frisk's direction. "And you better get back to your push-ups! And don't you dare ask for me to lie for you, Sans will tell instantly if I try."

The small human child groaned at that, throwing her hands up in exasperation. "God damn it!"

Sans' Point of View:

The steady beat of the monitor by Angel told me that her soul and heart were still beatin' strong. I watched it contently, the sound of it the only thin' showin' me truly if she was well or not durin' this time where I couldn't see her eyes, nor hear her voice.

I couldn't stand not being able ta hearin' her.

Alphys wasn't far away, checking fluid levels, nutrition, and general care of the wounded arm of Angel's. In the span of the few days she'd been there, her fast healin' ability combined with Pap's magic had eased the wound on her. Her arm would never grow back, but at least the amount of time she had ta wait before getting' a robotic replacement was shortened. Alphys was workin' on one in the background, while she left me ta watch Angel.

It wasn't one of those weird moments when we both ended up asleep and ended up in weird positions with each other. She was dead ta the world as she rested. No matter what words I told her, she didn't bat an eye, or move an inch. No changes in her at all since the mornin' she was brought in.

Perhaps I was being too ungrateful for what we already had, but damn didn't I miss her…

"Heya Precious." Draggin' up a chair ta her left side, I sat down beside her. For a few moments I hesitated there, silence cast over us while the beepin' of the monitors was the only noise we could hear. I took a glance over at Alphys in the other room, more concerned for what she was workin' on rather than me at the moment.

A sigh left my teeth, and I grabbed Angel's single hand between my own phalanges. I never was like this before, not before she came here. Yet, her habit of takin' other people's hands inta her own and playin' with their fingers, it just came naturally to me as I waited for her ta wake.

"Just wanted ta give ya an update. Frisk is getting' pretty good with her magic now. Ya'd be shocked at the amount o' chains she can use at once now. It's a whoppin' ten in total before she struggles under their weight."

Holdin' her hand tightly in my own, I couldn't help but press the soft skin of her knuckles ta my teeth.

"Ya gotta wake up soon Angel, or Frisk will have another conniption." The pained chuckle left my teeth as I spoke. "She's been doin' all she can ta get stronger, even becomin' friends with Undyne. Speakin' of our fishy lady, she's come around. She and Frisk are almost like two peas in a pod now, teasin' the hell out of me, any chance they get. And Frisk just told her that we flirt every other chance… heh… I can imagine the red in yer cheeks as ya try and fight her on it."

The moment of warmth in my ribs quickly died as nothin', no matter what I said, seemed ta wake her.

"I don't deserve the feelin's I have for ya."

And I didn't. I failed ta keep her safe. Once again, I wasn't strong enough ta keep someone close ta me safe and cared for. Just like with my father. The only difference was that we had a chance ta save Angel. I couldn't save my father.

But even that felt like a pipe dream… if she woke up…

"I ain't worth anythin' ta ya, but ya mean everythin' ta me… even as much as Pap and my parents… I… don't think I can handle losin' ya too Angel…"

The monitor didn't change, and a hiss of curses escaped through my teeth.

"Please don't die… ya gotta wake up… I'll never hurt ya again… I'll never be that bone-headed again…"

That pathetic soundin' joke did nothin' ta help me…

"It's a promise."

Witch's Note:

Oh! Doesn't that just play at your heart strings folks?! Doesn't that make you want to be a crying mess as you read this? When I first wrote it, I had to take a day or two to calm down after the emotions here in this chapter! It was just so much to bear!

Mystic Girl: Oh, I wish they'd get together already!

Me: Mystic, you know when they get together. Its not THAT much longer into the future. Just another… twenty-five chapters or so.

Mystic Girl: That's so LONG Halloween!

Me: (Rolling my eyes) Last I knew, you LOVED the slow burn. You were so happy when it finally happened. Don't start complaining now. You know so much more then our reviewers as to what's going to happen in the future.

Mystic Girl: Yeah, I KNOW that. So get back to typing girl! I wanna hear the next chapter! Didn't you hear me?! Type, type, type!

Me: Yes ma'am…

My lord, help me dear readers…

Now the reviews!:

Thechaosmaster: Ah Chaos, how are you? Lovely to hear from you again, and thank you for the reviews you've recently sent in our direction! As for the questions you sent us in the last two reviews… sadly, Chara will not be making an appearance. While she has/had been mentioned during the story, with the fact that the timelines are in fact not changing due to the change in magical abilities we've done here, there was no need to keep her as a ghost. As fun as I bet we could have done some sort of spin off, I sadly didn't add her in this story or the next. I'm sorry.

As for Glitchtale, I'll have to get back to you on that. Mystic Girl knows nothing of any spin offs since she's never even seen the game Undertale, she just like the story spin I did off the plot and was eager after she heard a few early on chapters, thus wanting to help. I've seen a few clips here and there, but I DO plan to watch it when I get some down time, but with the holidays coming up, might be a bit tight. But super eager for it!

Also I will give you a smidgen of a hint when it comes to Mettaton. In this story, they will be a she and you'll have some info on when she'll make her appearance in chapter sixty-two. Not very far from now! In fact, besides Mettaton being mentioned, a few other happenings in the underground will be revealed! But, I can't say anymore~ XD

RoseCentury: Mystic Girl really can get in touch with you on that, actually, let me pass the mike over to her for a minute so she can chat with you about the questions you have. Mystic?

Mystic Girl: So, I don't really have any tips for the morning sickness other then treating it just like when you're sick for real. Like having ginger ale and crackers when your stomach doesn't settle. I was a weird case, I didn't know I was pregnant until almost seven months along, so I don't know how helpful my information can help you. I was past all my issues before I'd really known…

Me: Bummer… but regardless! Keep up the rest, fluids and treat yourself right Rose! And keep us posted! Super eager to know! Only after your hubby of course!

River: Why hello there! Its lovely to meet you for the first time! And thank you so much for reviewing! LOVE hearing the predictions that you gave out! Those would be awful fun to play with! Sadly, I don't want to give out any details to if you are right or wrong because, as you said, their predictions. Wouldn't be a good story if I just gave the entire plot away in a message! But please! Feel free to leave a review any time you wish with notes just like those, or just how you feel the story is going, or whatever you feel comfortable with. No worries if you can't, be we do appreciate if you do!

Phew… what a chapter! Anyone else tired? I sure am, but dang it! I have too much to do! As Mystic Girl so kindly stated, I DO have to keep working on the second story if I want that anywhere near done before I finish this one. I gotta get my skates on and hightail it outta here! Doesn't help my best friend is breathing down my neck…

Mystic Girl: TYPE!

Love you all and see you next week!
