Two Worlds, Two Souls
Chapter 70: A River of Tears
Angel's Point of View:
It was seven in the evening when Maria brought Frisk home to me.
My work day had been completed a while ago. I didn't want to work to death and neither did I like making Wher do the same thing. We had set hours between nine thirty in the morning to six in the evening. I hated to work beyond that since I had other things to do and family to look after. Unless it was dire or if Wher couldn't come in, we didn't work late.
"Thanks for looking after Frisk today." I spoke with Maria as she and MK hurried into the house. Papyrus was already home and working on dinner while the kids played with the game systems at the TV. Maria and I talked at the kitchen table before she would have to head home to her family.
"It was no problem, it got me out of the house for a bit. Poor Milly needed some rest and I fret too much when any of the kids get sick. Robert's a much better care giver then I am."
"Really? I'm surprised." I raised an eye brow at the female. "Though it's good to see. I normally only see the aggressive side of him."
"Oh, Robert could be quite the sweetheart when he wanted to be, especially when it comes to planning his beloved fair. Oh!" Maria giggled behind her paw. "We have to plan that!"
"Oh yes. So, what's the plan for this year? Hopefully not just me."
"No, no. The normal monster who helps us out is going to start baking a few days before the fair with a team of others we've managed to gather from the other areas of the underground. We'll do a divide and conquer technique this year. I hope to have you on cookies and maybe a few pies. Your cookies sold so well... I might have to beg for the recipes."
I snickered at her. "I can't promise I'll give them willingly. They are the most precious thing I own, besides my paintings."
"I know, but there so good..."
"And I'll be able to sell more of my paintings this year. I've started to do a few extra's here and there on my days off." Quickly stepping up from my spot, I pulled a few from the side that I had Wher already enchant for me that would be ready for the fair later on.
The first one I'd made was an enchanting area in Waterfall that consisted of the echo flowers as well as some of the unique plants that were in the botanical area.
I always through the flowers were beautiful. Alphys had managed to get me in on a private tour with herself and Sans walking around through the different plants. They were stunning with their glowing or unique colors or shapes that I saw. The first painting I present Maria was a mushroom looking plant that was glowing a soft yellow color on its exposed heads. The glow radiated through to the baby ones that grew at its feet. The plant itself was taller than myself. I'd made a small little self-drawing of myself in a cloak in comparison to the large plant to show contrast. The different colors of glowing in the picture I had play off my cloak, providing a green sort of color when they blended.
Another one I'd done with was this amazing looking lily like plant that was neon orange in color with almost brown like stripes that glowed a tad as well that striped down the center of their petals. And they moved! The plant acted almost like a Venus fly trap and ate at the flies that landed on the petals, or the small rodents that dared to try and drink the liquid at the base of its flowers. It was stunning, but I didn't want to horrify the people I was painting for, unless they asked for it. So the painting I did was with the plant trying to lure in a larger fly that was floating around with the plant's glowing nature.
There was even an underwater section that we were led to under one of the lakes where a research lab was that Alphys had to check on as well. Down there was a plant that looked like it was a mini plant city under the water. It was enclosed under the water with researchers swimming to and fro. Many of the underwater flowers and plants I couldn't get in closer to see put out different colored glows, so I could at least attempt to demonstrate that.
But I also created paintings of what homeowners loved that time of year, the glow of a Christmas tree under its lights and homemade ornaments. A favorite home town store covered in Christmas lights and busy with customers. A beloved restaurant with Christmas themed entertainment presented off in the corner of a busy section of the bar. From what I remembered of the Christmas fair last year, I attempted to do paintings of all the popular stalls and entertainment.
I had at least a good fifteen paintings saved up, and it was only September.
"Goodness Angel! You've been busy!"
"Just getting ready." I handed her just a couple of them to look over. "I only sold for one day last year and near sold out. That was about this many as I have. I'll need plenty to be ready for the fair, and I'll have Wher helping me as well. If Remy and Theo want to help me again, they can, but it would make sense for my assistant to be there."
"Of course. That's what you pay him for." Maria smiled softly at me. "He looks like he's adjusted well to his new position, and you always are giving him lots of chances to learn and grow while he works. I don't think I've seen someone change so much over a short span of time."
"I know. It's been amazing to see in between the few classes he takes and learning from Frisk."
Speaking of my amazing, but sometimes terrifyingly annoying, sister, I noticed that she was digging into the refrigerator and grabbed at some of the things I had in there for cooling to decorate that weekend.
"Frisk! Don't you dare!"
She froze at my yelling. Her hand paused on the tray of cookies I had cooling that I would be taking to Bernie before long. Her eyes wide in fear as she saw me glare. MK, the yellow lizard male who had grown largely in recent months to the height of his adoptive mother, stood beside her with his nose smelling the cookies and pouting at me.
"Can't we have one, Angel? Please?"
"You just had dinner and desert at Grillby's, you two." Maria chided them.
"But Angel's is the best!"
"Sis is the best baker!" Frisk pouted at me as well. "Come on Angel…"
"I suppose that my cue to leave." Maria sighed before she hurried to grab her son's shoulders and pull him away. "We'll see you this weekend. Will you be at the birthday party for Milly?"
"Of course, we will. Have a good night." Yanking on the back of my sister's shirt, I pulled her from the refrigerator. MK was dragged out by his mother while Frisk shrunk under my glare.
"Papyrus, do me a favor." The skeleton lifted his head from the dinner he was making while I kept my infuriated gaze on my sister. "The next time you're out, I want a lock for the refrigerator."
Later that Night:
It was only half an hour after Maria left for home and I was sitting in the kitchen finishing up my meal with Papyrus. My sister was banned from the kitchen while we ate and waited on Sans to return from the capitol. He had paperwork to finish up with the king so he would be home late that night.
"Are you going to do any other paintings tonight, Angel?"
"I don't think so. I'm exhausted." A yawn escaped me to prove my point. "Wher and I had a long day with work and I need a break. I'll do some more tomorrow. I have a lighter day with only one painting due. I can work on some others in the meantime."
"I see."
"What about you Papy?" With our food finished, I gathered out plates while he gathered the food to take care and make a plate for Sans to eat later. "What do you have for work tomorrow?"
"Oh? It seems that I'll be stationed over in Hotland tomorrow." Papyrus noted after a few moments. "Undyne asked that I be closer to her place after I get out so we can have a sleepover! She invited Frisk as well when she was done with her school work."
"That sounds fine. Just warn the captain to not let Frisk have too many sweets."
"Angel, Undyne knows that Frisk should not consume more than a handful or else she becomes sick." Papyrus showed me a deadpan look. "I believe we are all aware of her addiction to any sweet product you craft."
A dark chuckle escaped me. "Sorry Papyrus. I didn't mean to make it sound like you didn't understand. I know you do. It's just hard to let go of control sometimes."
"Ah… I see."
"You know, having to watch Frisk constantly and remind others of her behavior is normal for me. To let that go? It's actually harder than you think." My head fell into the hand that was palm up beside it. "For years I've mothered her and as we met people, I would have to always explain. You know, this is the first time in many years where I've stayed in the same spot for more than a few weeks or a month. I had to always be on the run."
That brought a downward frown to the skeleton's face. "I'm sorry Angel."
I waved him off with my free hand. "Don't worry about, Papy. It's in the-"
A sudden loud slam hit out door that had both Papyrus and I jumping from our chairs. Papyrus summoned a bone in hand while I reached for Frisk in the living room. She'd been so started by the sound, but both of us stood at attention as Papyrus went to go to the door.
"Help! Help! Papyrus! Angel! Help!"
I felt fear grip me as I heard MK's voice on the other side.
Papyrus ripped open the door just before the lizard male could slam his head against it again. He tumbled forward and landed on our floor. Tears streamed form his and I could see where he'd fallen into the snow on his way here.
"MK!" Papyrus quickly retracted his bone magic and helped the young mal stand. "What's wrong?!"
The echoing sob that came from him that prevented him from speaking spoke more volumes then anything. I hurried over to where our cloaks hung and threw Frisk's hers while yanking mine on.
"Frisk, get it on and stay with MK. I'm going to go check on Maria. You two stay here." My voice was not to be argued against. "Papyrus, come with me!"
"Yes Angel!"
Hurling on my outdoor shoes, I just had a moment to see Frisk gather MK into her arms while he sobbed, unable to speak while us older folk ran out the door. Papyrus kept on my heels as I sprinted using my magic to fling myself across town. A small crowd was gathered just outside of Maria's house, many of them hung in the doorway, but none dared to enter.
Just as my feet slammed into the ground I took off for the door. The people made way for the two of us as we burst through the door of the home Maria lived in.
Her loud sobbing could be heard so easily from the second floor. I sprinted up the hardwood stairs before I came across a scene I never wished to have seen.
Blood stains spattered on the wall with pools of blood on the floor before turning into dust piles. Maria sat there on her hind legs, sunken to the ground as she watched the two piles in absolute terror and disbelief. I could see a smaller pile was just before her at the base of the stairs while a larger pile was to the back, against a wall.
Milly and Robert were the only ones I knew were home… it had to be them…
"Oh my God…" I whipped around as Papyrus gasped at the scene himself. I'm sure he'd never seen a mess such as this before. His sockets were so wide and emotional that I saw the orange hue glow in them to show me he was feeling strong emotion, and may not have had a good control over his magic.
"I need to call this in." I turned back to Papyrus quickly. "Papyrus, Maria and MK need us now more than ever. I need you to try and get her down stairs if you can, outside would be best. I'm going to call in for help. Okay?"
"Y-yes, Ravie."
I was thankful he remembered to use my code name then. While at the moment it didn't matter, this area would be swarmed with those who didn't know us before long.
Papyrus carried the large bear when he came to try and move her and she latched onto him. Using all the strength he had and some magic, Papyrus removed himself from the house and took her out front, closing the door. He could direct civilians away from the home and kept them back with his magic.
I on the other hand, had to report such a devastation.
My first contact was Sans. He normally was very good about having his phone on him when I was calling him, but on rare occasion when he was with the king, he'd put it to silence and forget about it.
That sadly was one of the times where he didn't pick up.
"Hey, this is Sans. Leave a message."
I didn't bother as I scrolled through to a different contact. Ever since I began working for the king, in the case that someone got a hold of my phone, I couldn't let them know I was associated with him. He had to be under a different name. "Boss" was what I had listed since, technically, he was my boss. It just had to be something that wouldn't give him away if someone did get a hold of my phone.
I rang the contact named boss, eagerly hoping that the king would answer.
When I heard the line connect after the third ring, I almost deflated into happiness, if it wasn't for how serious the situation was.
"Ravie? Is everything alright? Its unlike you to call me personally."
"My King, there's an emergency in Snowdin that requires the guard as well as the judge and jury."
His voice turned serious in moments. "What happened?"
I took a deep breath before nodding to myself and trying to get out the words. "There's been two deaths in Snowdin, murders."
"Wha- Murders?! Are you sure?"
"I'm fairly certain, both Milly and Robert have been slain. Their blood and dust all over the second floor of their home in Snowdin." I tried to kept my hands from shaking in rage and upset. "Is Sans with you? I tried to call him, but his phone was off or silent."
"He is with me; I'll send him to you at once along with the jury and the guard. Be prepared to investigate and have the entire area on lockdown. And Ravie? Once you update Sans with all you know and the guard, would you and Papyrus bring Maria and MK to the capitol? For their protection and to keep them safe?"
"Of course." I let out a shaky breath before I gasped and a sudden thought hit me. "We need to find Will as well! Maria's eldest son! He's a white bear monster who normally hangs out in Waterfall!"
"Yes, we will search for him. Everyone will be on high alert." The king's voice became stern. "Follow my orders Ravie, I will speak with you privately of this once you arrive."
"Yes sir."
I hung up the phone then, trying to keep myself calm while I waited for help. Sans would be there any moment in his judge uniform I figured while the rest of the guard and jury were informed.
"Red." Hearing the serious voice of Sans and the code name I had for the jury caused me to turn slowly, only to see the white cloak that Sans wore when he worked.
"This is the site, Judge. Where we found their remains."
Sans drew in closer, looking over the area for any clues or for what possibly could have happened before he turned his face to me. "The king gave ya orders ta escort Maria and MK ta the capitol with Papyrus of the sentry division. Go and complete yer mission. I will join ya later ta inform ya of what we find."
I was handed a small device from Sans, one that I was very familiar with. It was a voice changing device. I couldn't allow anyone who truly knew me and my disguise as Ravie to be discovered. Sans also handed me the robe I used when as my jury persona. The black cloak was the same as my own, but had red stitching into the garment to show I was of the jury. No one would question me.
With seconds to spare, I hurled off my normal cloak and pulled on the other Sans gave me, as well as attached the voice device to my throat. It always caused some irritation the longer I used it, so I tried not to if I could. But I knew I would need to in this situation, as much as I could anyway.
"Thank you Judge." My voice was gargled as if someone had attacked my jugular many years ago to mess with my voice. "I will head out then."
Sans assisted me for a moment hiding my normal cloak below the first one. "Good, now go."
Walking out of the house, I saw as others began to arrive, Grillby, already decked out in his robes rushed inside with only a nod to me before he hurried inside. Glyde and Hops I saw were next as they entered the home, greeting me with a nod as well before I hurried away. Papyrus was only a short distance back, directing locals away from the home and trying to keep Maria steady as she sobbed her heart out.
"Papyrus of the sentry division?" Papyrus shot his head over to me as I approached slowly. "I am Red, of the jury. I am to assist you in escorting both Maria and MK to the capitol. Do you know where the youngest son is?"
"Yes, he's at our home while my cousin Ravie and I helped… wait! Ravie is in the home-"
"Do not concern yourself of Ravie, she has already been escorted to the king for questioning about what she knows." I walked over to the male. "Follow your duty young skeleton, the king is waiting to help these folks."
"I… yes, Jury Member Red. I understand."
"Then we'd best get moving, shall we?"
The moments of silence cast over us as we gathered up Maria and headed to my home to gather MK. The larger yellow monster without arms sat there in the living room once we arrived, sobbing into my sister's shoulder. When the door opened, they both looked up at the three people to enter the room. MK rushed to his mother, while Frisk remained and showed a questioning look upon her face when she saw a new person. One with a different cloak.
"Little Sitka, the King wishes for me to go with Jury Member Red to escort Maria and MK to the capitol." Papyrus kneeled before my sister. "Ravie has already been sent there to be questioned by the king as well."
"She what?!" Frisk leapt from the couch. "She shouldn't be alone! Let me go too!"
Papyrus looked in my direction. "Will… uh… that hinder you? Jury Member Red?"
I shook my head. "I am not opposed, so long as you keep her closer and safe. We must get moving in case that dangerous monster comes back."
"Of course." Papyrus worriedly turned back to my sister who was already standing. "Assist MK, Sitka. I will assist Maria as we travel."
"Got it."
With the help of Frisk and Papyrus, they both got Maria and MK standing. The two of them were led out with myself as we journeyed to Algerian's boat that would take us to just before the castle.
The dreadful feeling in my stomach turned as I watched us leave Snowdin behind. This was going to be a long and terrible fight that we were dragged into, wasn't it?
Witch's Note:
Oh boy! Now I know that I have either made so many people's day or really hurt them when Robert died in the last chapter along with Milly. A lot of you are already guessing who the heck it is that killed them. But I don't dare say much of anything since I'm afraid I'll give away who the killer is and we've just barely begun this longer arc!
But regardless, you guys are so good to me with all the reviews I got for the last chapter and how they're climbing in numbers so much! You all are amazing! Thank you so much and let me respond to those very reviews you left me and Mystic Girl!
MysticBoywashere: Awe! What a sweet comment! Thank you, Mystic Boy! And yes, there is another terrible person on the lose! Better watch out, who knows who's next?!
Mystic Girl: I KNOW! I KNOW! I KNOW! I KNOW!
Me: (Silently glare at my best friend but restrain myself from speaking to give her the moment of glory she has desired since early chapters in the twenties.)
Dasansi: Yes! You are exactly right; this is those two arcs you mentioned! It was a tough decision to kill off Robert and Milly-
Mystic Girl: Robert was easy, Milly was not you bitch!
Me: Shut it! Anyway, Robert honestly was the most important character by far in the entire story. He showed that he could change and that he was a good friend and ally to Angel and gang. As painful as it was, it was due to that which made me decided that he was the one, along with his daughter. Trust me, you have no idea how much I wanted to keep him alive just to spite Mystic Girl.
Mystic Girl: Don't you dare go and change the story just to satisfy your fucked up addiction to mess with me!
Me: I'm not going to; now will you drop it before I re-write the entire story?!
Mystic Girl: Fine, whatever. (She pouts and folds her arms over her chest.)
Thechaosmaster: Oh Chaos… I knew this was gonna mess with a lot of people. And your exactly right, it leaves me as well left with mixed emotions. Because of how wrong it is, that's how right it feels. Even if I really didn't want to do it. I honestly can't say much more then what I've already said or else I may give out too many details, sorry…
But very eager for when you put out a new chapter! Let me know via private message or review when you do, okay?
RoseCentury: Ooo! Wild berry pie? What berries? Blueberry, raspberry, blackberry, what else? Strawberry, elderberry… Now I want pie…
But CUDDLES! Those are the best! Do you know how much I demand those from my boyfriend when I can? Or when Mystic Girl does from her man? CUDDLES!
Shadow Phantom: You, my friend, bring up a great point! The blood is different in this story perhaps compared to others. I based it off of the battle between Sans and the human. When he is hit, he bleeds, regardless of the fact that he is a monster. I interoperated this myself that monsters would also bleed in their own way to leave some kind of sign behind. If the killer had managed to kill them without a chance to bleed, it would have been just like the game where they instantly turned to dust, this then making it even harder to find out any information about who the killer is. I don't know if this helps or not, but its just the way I interoperate monsters in this story.
TheSquoxQueen: What an interesting character! Do you have anything written yet for this character? I'd be eager to read about Lucida!
Commander: Its perfectly fine if you wanna join Mystic Girl's club. I can't blame your decision. I might make fun of you guys, but can't blame or hate you. And an interesting guess on the murderer. Classic. That I can say, but won't give out any details!
As for your questions, I can tell you that I honestly removed the whole, save/load magic powers from this story entirely. While a cool concept, I wanted to have my own kind of determination magic instead. I guess you could say I went off the railings a bit…
And let me tackle the question you gave me first then. Frisk right now only has a small handful of chains, perhaps… ten or twelve at best? Sadly, her magic hasn't progressed as it normally would have if it had been nurtured properly. Determination magic is also based on the struggles you face and your own feelings of determination to over come them. As we saw though the story, Frisk had only a couple to maybe five up until she vowed to be stronger and better to help Angel after she was nearly lost. On the other hand, Angel has both her soul and her parents attached to her who all had the same kind of magic. With the strength of her determination along with the extra souls attached, she has… oh god… thousands? I envision her magic so thick that she could coat an entire house, part of buildings, caverns. They could stretch out as far as a couple acres. Where as Frisk's perhaps can only reach maybe fifty feet at this time. She'll grow and change!
Hey Mystic! Get your ass over here! Question for you!
Mystic Girl: That's a good question Commander. I haven't decided yet if I want to change it yet. But it's a good suggestion. Give me some time to think it over and I'll let you know. Ooo! And that second question. Do you want the short version or the long version!
Me: Girl! Make up your mind or you're typing it!
Mystic Girl: Long version. Milly first of all doesn't die! Second, I would have instead of stabbing him, I would have used those awesome chains that Angel and Frisk have and would have choked the life out of him. And if I had to, I would have stabbed him once to make sure he was gone. Like I said before, short version, slice, dice good-bye, but I guess its actually strangle, slice, good-bye!
Not A Shady Guy: Shady! Oh, my goodness is it so good to see you again! And man oh man have you caught us at a great moment! I'm sure you want to kill me for what I did, but please don't hate me. As much as I would have loved to have kept him alive for spiting Mystic Girl and the others, he was the perfect character that fit the bill for someone to be killed off for this arc. And… I felt that Milly was a good companion to that as well. To show off some last-minute good points about Robert before… (croak).
And as for the blood, it was my take on the story. I know that monsters normally are classed as being entirely made of magic and turn to dust when they die. I wanted my story to be where monsters mimic many human characteristics, even bodily actions such as bleeding when hurt, up until death. Perhaps I may have changed too much… but this is my baby. This story means the world to me that I just had to go with the ideas that flowed out of me at the time and just kept with it.
Wow… so many of you guys reviewed and man it has tired me out! But in a good way! I hope I get to hear from you all some more soon! Love you all and see you next week!
And don't think I didn't see half of you making jokes at the number 69!

(After I have left my laptop with all my work done for the week, Mystic Girl sneaks in and opens it up to leave a message for her followers).
Mystic Girl: To all that are in KillTheBearClub, now that the bear has finally died, we have a new enemy to look out for. And my conclusion is we may have to change the name of the club. Keep posted for more updates.
