Two Worlds, Two Souls
Chapter 75: To Love Someone
Papyrus's Point of View:
"Will! Please! You must come to your senses!" A clash of bone and ice met once more across the snowy field. The deranged Will kept up his attack with no end in sight.
Facing him was much worse than facing Undyne and Frisk. At least with the two of them I knew they wouldn't hurt anyone intentionally. Will was lashing out in all directions and I had to keep an eye out for any passersby that tried perhaps to intrude in the physical debate we were having.
The area had been turned into a battle zone as ice and bone cut through the earth. Our magic clashed before I was forced to use a bone or two in order to knock Will back. The drug almost seemed to have given him energy, or perhaps that was his pain driving him forward. His clothes were torn and eyes so red that his normal honey colored iris' looked rather black due to the drug's influence.
"Will! Can you even hear me?!"
"Papyrus!" I crafted a large wall of bones just as another figure entered the area. Will charged animalistically. I could only imagine how much he would hurt when this was over.
I cast my gaze behind me as I panted, seeing a quick flash of Angel, covered by her cloak, as she approached me. Her voice was changed by the cloak she wore, but I knew it was her. The chains that wrapped around her body in a red glow I knew could only be used by two people.
And Frisk was not advanced enough to use that many as that person was showing.
"Be careful Angel!" I warned her quickly while Will smashed through more of my bones that protected us. I could see her chains already cascading over the snowy environment in case she needed to drag her body toward or away from something. "Will's not in his right mind! He's been smoking something that has destroyed his sanity! He's not responding to anything I say!"
"We'll need to knock him out Papyrus!" The shattering of the bone wall was heard by both of us and Angel's chain snapped forward to protectively wrap me and yank me back. The two of us landed twenty feet away from Will as he looked between us, trying to figure out who to charge at next. "The drug we need to get out of him, but we can't do it like this! I'll knock him out! Craft a barrier around us to keep him from attacking anyone else who gets here!"
"Yes ma'am!"
With orders from someone much higher than me in the guard, I used a large remaining part of my magic to do as Angel had said, keeping myself to the back while she took on Will. I would have gratefully helped her in any way I could, but the barrier had to be in place to keep others safe from the deranged bear who attacked all who came near.
Will charged then again, Angel was ready for him as her chains whipped up the snow, hurling it into his face. With Will blinded for a few moments, Angel hurled her body into the air. She carefully wrapped hundreds of tiny chains over her form before I saw her body be thrown down at Will. The bear had seconds to notice and attempt to block before Angel slammed her body into his. They were both thrown deeper into the closed off area I'd made.
However, Will was not done then.
He hurled Angel's body off his own. She landed somewhere to the side. Her body still protected by her chains. I watched in fascination as they shot away from her body and grabbed onto to the trees in the area to leap into the air again.
Will focused his entire attention on Angel then. He shot icicles into the air at her for the woman to maneuver around. She danced around them in ease. Angel made it look so easy as she deflected or avoided. Her chains truly were much like an extension of her body.
"Pap!" I glanced behind me just long enough to see two figures outside the barrier of bones I had made. I could see Undyne, Sans dressed as the judge, and the guard behind them.
Instantly relief came over me.
"Oh, thank goodness Frisk was able to reach you!"
"Papyrus!" A cry from Angel was all I heard before I was yanked into the air. Ice exploded from where I stood before and Will attempted to get out of the barrier once more. The quickness of it startled me. A chain was wrapped around my center while I dangled in the air. "Don't look away from him until we have him under control!"
The unsettled nerves of mine made my teeth rattle. "Y-yes ma'am!"
"Damn..." Undyne hissed as she looked ahead to the male. "It really was him... How the fuck did you know that Judge?"
"It was an educated guess." Sans' voice didn't sound like himself, but I knew it was him. "Red! Status!"
"Wilbur is deranged and not thinking normally! He's been reduced to animalistic habits and has tried to land deathly blows on myself and Papyrus of the sentry division!" I watched as Angel gave her report while she kept trying to slam her body into Will's and attempt to knock him out. He was not having it though as he kept avoiding her in the last moments. "There is also a horrid smell in the area that is similar to the last time Green and I ran into him and the other teens!"
"Papyrus!" Undyne hollered at me, causing me to turn and face her. "What do you know about that?!"
"Will and the others were smoking something when Frisk and I intercepted them!" I spoke quickly while the guard poured into the hole that Will had created to escape. The white bear was surrounded. "Whatever it was they were taking in affected Will poorly and caused him great pain! I tried to help with healing magic before he turned aggressive!"
"The fuck?!" Undyne snarled. "Healing magic made it worse?"
"Like the acid mushrooms in Waterfall's research area." Sans quoted noted with his strangely deeper and more official sounding voice. "Angel the human ran into somethin' like that durin' her trainin' accident last year. The acid mushroom, from what she described, was that her sister couldn't use healin' magic on it, since it made the decay process quicken."
The guard surrounded Will while it was that the higher ups chatted about the situation. It was actually a surprise to me that Undyne had not jumped head first into battle. She was not one to shy away from a fight. Unless... Sans had told her of a plan of some sort or asked her to stay back in the instance her magic was needed?
I could see how Angel still struggled to knock out Will. He was avoiding all of the guard that tried to box him in so Angel could get a good hit in. None of their magic was good at boxing in, mostly it was just used for fighting.
But we could see the wear on Will's face. He looked quite tuckered out from all the fighting he'd done under the effects of the dug. But he was still fighting. I didn't know what was driving him, but he wouldn't let himself relax.
"Damn it!" I heard Angel call out from above. "Why can't I hit him?"
"The drug might have awoken a more instinctual side of him." Sans offered. "I'll try to grab him with m'magic Red, then can ya knock 'em out?"
"Yes Judge."
With a steady raising of his hand, I watched as the arm of the judge's rob was covered in blue magic and Will's raging body was halted, even if only for a few seconds. I could see that Sans struggled under the effects of trying to keep Will still. Even my brother's strength wouldn't last for long against whatever that drug was.
"Now Red!"
Angel flew down then. She slammed her body into his stomach first to make him grovel on the ground. With not a second of hesitation, she whacked her flattened hand against the back of his head which caused Will to finally be knocked out.
Once Will was down, I was released from the air above. I landed easily on my feet while Angel's invisible chains wrapped around him and Undyne hurried forward to grab the tied-up teen.
"Alright you punks! Let's get him back to the capitol and to a doctor!" Undyne's orders rang out in the air. "Vinnie! Ryu! Head with Papyrus back to his home and gather the other two teens that Frisk saved. And bring all three of them to the capitol."
"Yes ma'am!"
"Lead them back, Papyrus of the sentry division." I heard Angel's voice masked from beneath the cloak. With Undyne there, she couldn't have anyone know it was her. Even Frisk and I weren't able to know... but we found out only by chance together...
I could only hope that Will could get the help he needed... and prayed that perhaps he wasn't the killer due to that drug.
But even my optimism was short that day... It was very likely that he was... Sans had even suspected that this would happen...
It made me quite sad as I walked away with Vinnie and Ryu to find Frisk... I'm sure she would not be as upset as myself... but it still hurt...
How would we tell Maria?
Angel's Point of View:
Maria sobbed loudly as she watched her son be hooked up to hundreds of wires and monitors that carefully recorded and watched his fragile condition. MK stood by his mother's side and tried to comfort her while the two watched their final family member with at least a dozen doctors trying to assist him.
Regardless of the fact that we had to treat him roughly in the field, his internal body was very fragile once we got him to a doctor who looked over his soul and physical condition. Will had suffered from using that addictive drug for many months before it just recently began to destroy his mind. He had a reaction to it the second he used more than a certain amount which caused hallucinations and changes in behavior. At least, that's what we were able to gather from the two friends of his that were also set up in the hospital.
Katarina and Askook also had suffered from the drug, but either hadn't taken in as much of the material or had not been using it as long as Will had. From the detailed report that was made from the two of them, they were part of a group of friends that were dealing drugs. They had a dealer who gave them the material, and apparently it was Will who got them first hooked on the stuff. They had become addictive within a few weeks of using the substance, but they didn't know who was the dealer, Will always got them the stuff and apparently, he wanted to keep them out of it.
How shady...
Sans wasn't pleased with that information. It was easy to piece together that Will was the killer once we searched his room in the capitol with a warrant from the king. More of the drugs were found as well as clothes covered in blood. Blood that belonged to Milly, Robert... and all the other victims that had been lost to the murderer in the underground.
Will was the killer, just as we had suspected.
The question then was... did he know?
It was obvious that Will was not mentally sound when each of the crimes took place or when he took someone's life. The drug did terrible things to his mind, the king and Sans were torn about what we needed to do with him.
The first thing was to get him and his friends clean of the drug and see what was left of him after this most recent degrade in his health. If that had happened more than once... it was difficult to say just how much of his mind would be active and working once he woke up.
"Well... ain't this a shit show." Sans, still dressed in his judge robe, commented while we stood before Undyne in her armor stood beside us as we were the only jury members that remained by Will's side. The others had been scattered to discover any information about Will's drug circle that he had been a part of.
"It's not gonna be easy to find those assholes." Undyne sneered as she stood there. "Sounds like they use the high school in Waterfall as a base to pass it out, since that's the only place we couldn't keep a good eye on Will."
"But how do we infiltrate a high school?" I questioned softly. "None of us would fit in, and many of us would stand out. Especially you or I, Judge."
Undyne raised an eye brow at us, but said nothing. I suppose she'd been either told or ordered by the king never to press on our identities. I could only assume that reason as we stood there.
Sans sighed. "I know... we'd need someone more kid-like aged to blend in."
I tilted my head at him. "But what parent would be okay with that? I know that I would not feel comfortable if my younger sibling would be asked to do such a thing."
"Oh shit!" We both turned to Undyne as she stood there with a big grin. "What about those human girls?"
And instantly fear grew in the pit of my stomach. I had to clench my fist to prevent myself from yelling no.
"Why do you suggest them?" Sans questioned, I'm sure for me since I was quite unable to in those moments.
"Well, I know Angel won't be happy about it. But Frisk is a really good actress. I bet she could discover the group, and with our help we could keep her safe. Don't you work with the older sister Angel on occasion, Jurymen Red?"
Carefully keeping myself calm, I nodded to her. "She has been assisting me with caring for the wards I've reformed, so yes. We do associate with each other."
"Yeah, well, maybe we can convince her to let Frisk do it?" Undyne seemed pretty excited about the idea. "If Frisk can pull it off, it might show Asgore that the two of them mean no harm and helping out the underground with such an insane feature would probably help in Asgore's decision to let 'em stay to be safe. Right?"
It actually... wasn't a terrible idea... other than my sister being put in the line of danger.
"Well... I shall pose the idea to them and see what becomes of it."
Sans gave a soft bump to my shoulder as well. "We'll also need to see if Asgore approves the plan of using the human girl."
"Cool." Undyne grinned before she stepped before the door to Will's room. "I'll keep guard, but let me know what Fluffybuns says about letting Frisk help."
So that's where that nickname I bet came from...
"Come on, Red." Sans began to walk away, but waited on me. "We gotta go check in with the king."
"Of course, Judge."
Following Sans, we left the busy area of the hospital that was only a short distance from the castle. He slipped us into a darker hallway where no one was. Once we were out of sight of others, he dove into an empty room. He quickly saw that no one was there and locked the door behind us.
I tried to keep my breathing steady… but it was tough…
"Angel." I lifted my gaze just enough to see Sans had already lowered his hood so I could see his face. "C'mon, let me see ya."
I slowly nodded before I pulled down the hood to show my face to him. The skeleton roommate of mine quickly noticed how fear had ebbed its way onto my face and tears had just begun to run. I struggled to hold my hands to my mouth to keep my sobs hushed.
"Ah shit…"
"D-do you really think… this is the best idea?"
"Shit, Precious… I du'know." He rubbed the back of his skull as a nervous habit. "I hate the idea just as much as ya do. Don't want our Frisky anywhere near those assholes."
"But…" There was always a but.
Sans groaned in his frustration. "Undyne ain't wrong. Havin' the kiddo give us a hand with the case and goin' undercover would not only be helpful, but it would make it more likely that Asgore will accept both of ya. I had hoped that havin' ya be apart of the jury would show 'im just how much you wanted to prove yourself… but this wouldn't hurt either. It would show that both of ya want this, that badly."
I couldn't help but whine. I really didn't want to do that. I didn't want Frisk to be exposed or put her in danger. If I was just a random person off the street being asked that, I would have said hell no in an instant.
But our situation was different.
Frisk and I had to do anything we could to help improve our position with the king before we met him to prove our kindness and helpfulness that hopefully he will keep us alive… And if that was the way it had to be…
"C-can you tell Asgore?"
With no hesitation, Sans nodded. "I can tell 'em Precious. If he agrees, I'll get an official document put together and let Frisk make the final decision."
"You know she's going to say yes, right?"
"She may surprise ya."
I huffed in exasperation. "Darling, you know my sister just as well as I do. If it means keeping any of us safe, or improving our position here in the underground, you know she'll do it in a heartbeat."
The deep humming that came from him told me just how much he agreed with that statement. He knew how I was right, but we still didn't have any choice.
It would be up to my sister to decide.
Witch's Note:
Oh my God! Here we are everyone! Will had been noted as the killer under the drugs! How many of you guessed it? There was a good handful of you who were right on the trail and it was so hard not to say anything! Oh lord I've had goose bumps while working on this! To see the utter pain Will is in and his mother and remaining sibling watching him from afar? For us to realize that it was him when a room search was conducted. For Frisk to be suggested to do a dangerous mission such as this? Holy shit!
But let's move on past me, I've gotta see what you all are saying! Review time!
Shadow Phantom: Not a bad way to think about it Shadow! Hopefully this chapter helps with your hypothesis on that. But now we move onto some more serious matters! What do you think of what Undyne's suggested for Frisk?
Dasansi: What? You thought the arguing was weird? He he! Perhaps, but that's just the way those two are, being sneaking while doing their thing! But yes! You were right! Nice job! And I'm glad you loved Papy taking charge, it certainly was a fun scene to write, and so was this chapter!
MysticBoywastaken: Okay now… let's put down that gun before something crazy happens. (I turned to my best friend with a scowl.) Look, we can fight over the bear later, I think you need to work on this.
Mystic Girl: Fine, I was going to anyway. (She takes the time to glare at me and the second bear I'm protecting before approaching her so called 'brother'.) I'm going to offer you third in command, is that okay, brother? In the moment that Chaos isn't available to help me, you will be a temporary second in command. Does that make you happy?
Thechaosmaster: Yes, be careful of the flying icicles Chaos, its pretty hazardous here. (I say as I dodge a piece of ice that stuck through my desk, narrowly missing my laptop. I flash a glare at the bear I'm protecting.) Cool your ass you shit! We're protecting you!
Anyway, as for the side story idea, I'm really glad you're throwing that in my direction! I'm so eager to work on that. I may ask for more details later, but I can't say more at this moment. Secret, secret!
Mystic Girl: See you next week Chaos!
Ninja Squirrel: Oh, don't be so modest! Its not a bad thing to be so compassionate. I think it's a sweet thing to care about them, even if their bad. Because you know something bad happened to make them that way! And aren't those moments between Frisk and Pap the best?! And I see you watching so intently! Better hold onto your seat!
RoseCentury: Awe those names are so cute! I can't believe you're getting so lucky to have two of each! That's crazy! Congrats!
Hey everyone, I hope you can forgive me for the short responses this time around. I honestly have some medical issues going on and feel like shit. I hoping to get through it soon. I'll be back to my normal self soon enough! I still love you all and can't wait to see you next week!
