Two Worlds, Two Souls
Chapter 80: Research
Frisk's Point of View:
Being patient and sticking things out sucked.
Another month had passed, I'd been in school for near two and a half months and it was getting close to our spring break in April. As that break got closer, so many of my classmates and friends were eager for it while I dreaded it. If we were gone for a week, so much could happen that I could miss out on simply because I wasn't at the school.
I kept dragging my friends out for the fresh air of the football field, so long as it wasn't raining in Waterfall. I always was on the lookout for the mascot in-between classes, games, practice and so forth. I'd yet to be approached, I wasn't sure if it was a lack of trying on my part or if I wasn't looking victim enough to want drugs? Or was it that I wasn't trying hard enough to find out about it? Did I look like I could get along without them?
How in the world did I get the attention of drug dealers?!
I couldn't help but feel slightly irritated and let it show while I walked the halls of the school. It was early morning before our classes were to start. My friends were walking with me, but weren't sure what to say as I scowled.
"Frost?" MK was the brave one. "Everything okay?"
I huffed. "I'm tired and annoyed that I have three tests back to back today... Can't our teachers give us a break?"
It was easy to come up with excuses that were school related. There were so many stresses with being a student. And while my grades were average to above par, depending on the subject of course, it was easy to stress over them or not doing well enough. Or even the fear of not doing well enough.
"It's just before spring break, this is where they're the hardest on us..." Sophia commented from where she just fluttered off the ground with the use of her wing like arms. "After our first two tests we do have lunch. We could go out and play a game for a bit if that would help you, Frost."
"Anything to un-wire my brain..." I groaned loudly, perhaps being a bit more dramatic than I intended.
The point got across regardless that I was not in a happy mood or doing all that well.
Thus, began the tedious hours of taking our tests in each of the different rooms. First period was math, and hell I still hated it with a burning passion! If it wasn't for Simon helping me with the material after school, I knew I'd be doing a lot worse off than I would have been normally. He helped keep my grade at least at an eighty percent out of a hundred.
If it wasn't for me being in the middle of a crazy mission for the king, I bet Angel would be really proud of me for keeping it that high. Especially since I could barely work with fractions when I first came to the underground a year and a half ago…
But she was too stressed, ready and waiting almost every day to see if I would use my emergency words to call for help.
The second period was literature. That wasn't as bad. I could deal with books and learning about them or doing a quick essay on them. I honestly just put in enough effort to pass unless it was a really engaging book we were working on. The most recent book we worked on was about poems since it was just around poetry month. I actually loved the creative way poems spoke, they reminded me of songs some times and gave me crazy imagine trips. I loved it when I went off on a tangent…
But staying on topic was kinda hard…
When lunch came and we had our break, I was so relieved. The four of us decided to just kick around the ball while listing off facts for the next classes we had. It was a great multitasking tool as well as kept us focus. If we got the question wrong, the ball was kicked back to us and we had two more chances to get it.
Can't lie and say I used those extra answer just to swear and get out some energy…
"Okay, next test coming up is in history." Jay was the one to start us off. He always had the best grads and normally like to begin these games. "MK, you're first. When was the first written documents for the monster kingdom discovered?"
"Eleven-hundred A.D."
Just as MK kicked the ball to Sophia, Jay whistled, a signal that he was either wrong or didn't give enough details. Sophia nodded and kicked the ball back to MK. The yellow lizard groaned as he bounced it off his knee ten times as punishment.
Jay shook his head. He might have been a laidback guy, but good grades really got him going. He was always one that thought we should be doing our best. "That's not enough detail to pass that question MK and you know it."
"Sorry… It was eleven-oh three. Written by Shu-Twi, the historian for the king. It was the first record noting the once peaceful times between humans and monsters as we kept our own boarders."
"Good." With a nod Jay let the ball be passed to Sophia. I always felt bad when she got the ball. She did alright in most classes, but history was not her strongest suite. It took a lot of study sessions and plays like this to help her just to pass in that class.
"Okay Sophia, let's start with an easy question." Jay tried to take it a little easier on her since he knew this was hard. He always started her off easy before giving her tough questions like MK and me, who could handle when he was an ass. "What did the monster and humans trade between each other during those early years?"
"Oh! Oh! I should know this!" Sophia whined as she tried to rack her brain for the answer. "Um… oh God… w-was it… food?"
Jay nodded to her. "That's one thing. But you know how this goes. Try to give me two others. The teacher may ask for more on the test rather than the most common one."
"Right…" Sophia I could see pouted as she tried to think again.
"Come on Soph!" I cheered her on. "You got this!"
"Um… also... uh... b-building materials... and... furs? Since we... had more access to forests and farm land?"
"Very good!" All of us began to praise her while Jay looked quite pleased that she gave as much information as she did. "That will be one of the test questions, and furs and building materials were some of the more unknown factors. And good job remembering some of where the first settlements were located."
I grinned at her. "Nice Sophie!"
"Thanks Frost..." Sophia then passed the ball over to me.
Crap it was my turn...
"Alright Frost," Jay looked through a packet of his notes for questions. "When did the war between humans and monster break out, and what was the reason for it?"
"Ah shit... uh… eighteen ninety-three." I had to rack my brain for that one. "Wasn't it where a monster was accused of kidnapping human kids? When it actually turned out that it was humans themselves that were doing that to others of their kind? Uh... wasn't it because they were kidnapping kids with magical powers to protect the king?"
"Very good. And good remembering it was kids with magic that were kidnapped, not normal kids." Jay flipped through another page and handed it over to Sophia. "Choose any of the questions to ask me."
"Um..." Sophia took a second to glance through the pages before she looked at a question from the bottom that caught her attention. "How about this? Can you name at least three of the first royal guards every recorded and what they were best known for?"
"Easy," Jay was always the smartest of the group, second was MK since he was going into friggin robotics... "First was Paluna Hark the captain, she specialized in defensive magic that caused her to create shields of all kinds that she could use for both defensive and offensive. Second was Luka who specialized in light magic to brighten or dim a location. He specialized in sneak attacks that resolved in him messing with his opponents' sight. Third is Pono Junko who had a body take over power. It was helpful for gathering knowledge and sneaking around."
"Damn..." MK groaned as he was passed the ball next. "How do you know everything?!"
"I'm just good at this kinda stuff, while you guys are better at other things." Jay only shrugged before taking back the packet from Sophia. "Alright MK, give a brief description of how the war affected us in the first decade in the late eighteen hundreds."
"Oh yeah! When the war started, it began with the humans secretly trying to take back farm land from the monster kingdom until they were locked within the walls of the old castle above ground. After that, the last leg of the war came where just outside the monsters fought and lost before being led into the mountain and locked below."
Jay nodded and motioned for MK to pass the ball. He did so quickly before Sophia took it.
"Why the heck are they asking us about two different time periods!" Sophia's feathers ruffled as she crossed her wing like arms. "It makes it even harder to remember!"
"Not sure, maybe they want us brushing up on any history to do with humans since those two humans entered the underground." Jay could only shrug. "We have to go over it regardless. The test is next period."
Sophia pouted at that. She didn't like that fact at all, but we hardly had a choice.
Just before Jay could ask another question, the school bell rang. With an annoyed sigh, we all gathered our things and prayed that we could do the best we could in the upcoming class.
We all scattered about to our different seats, preparing for the test when I saw a paper land on my desk. I blinked and looked around quickly to see who could have dropped it. I soon saw it was one of the football guys I chattered with often and shared notes with. Kris from the football team, another freshmen like the rest of us who associated with those we thought were a part of the drug group. He winked at me, the mule man, before focusing on the front.
I looked to his note while the teacher had their back turned.
Ey Frosty, looking good! Hey, heard ya were gettin' stressed 'bout the tests and what not. One of the seniors can help with that, if you're interested? If so, meet us out on the field.
I couldn't help but feel elation and fear rush through me.
Finally, I got what I was looking for! But... I hesitated for a few moments. I knew that I should tell someone in the guard before I run off and possibly get killed or something, but... this was such a golden opportunity that I didn't want to risk losing them or making them think I wasn't trustworthy after all the shit I'd done the last month. All the attention-grabbing shit I'd done to get their attention...
I had to go with my gut.
Pulling out a paper, I wrote my response and threw it back to his desk when the teacher wasn't looking. He caught it with ease and grinned at my response once he read the paper.
I sucked in a deep breath and hoped that I would be okay...
Later That Day:
Tests were over, I was relieved as I went to my last class of the day to simple just work on a project. It was a great way to unwind and try to get my mind off of what it was I was going to do.
I still wanted to at least let them know something was going down.
With that in mind, the only person who knew something was going on was MK. While I couldn't tell him anything, I could still have him deliver something for me.
So once my class was over, I had MK run off to Vinnie with a note I let fall from my pocket. No one saw us, that I knew, but I still wanted to be careful.
With MK delivering my message and letting the others know that I was staying behind, I hurried out to where Kris had told me to meet him by the field. He and another few of the freshmen sat there, sitting and waiting as I rushed up to them.
"Nice! Frost! Cool to see ya!"
Hand at the ready, I smacked Kris' outstretched one. "Sup dude? So, what the hell is this cure all you said was being given out?"
Kris carefully looked around, guarding the secret a moment longer before he whispered in my ear. "Captain's got some special meds to make us perform better in everything!"
"Meds?" I blinked at him, tilting my head. "What meds?"
"Dunno, but he's got extra and thinks we'd been good people to give it to since others decided they didn't need it anymore when they graduated."
I could only assume it was because this senior lost out on three people since Will, Kat and Kook were in the hospital getting treatment. Whoever this asshole was, he certainly knew how to string the stupid looking along.
Sorry Kris, your one of those idiots.
"So… is this where we're meeting him?"
"Nah, once one more person gets here. The five us gotta head to a secret place he's given it to us. Don't want the guard seein' it. Ya know how it is, look how that asshole guardsmen keeps throwin' a fit when ya gotta take yer migraine meds."
I let out a heated sigh. "Tell me about it…" But then I registered his words and blinked. "One more person?"
"Sorry I'm late!"
My eyes widened as I heard that voice and quickly turned to see Sophia rushing toward us. Decked out in her cheering outfit, she approached us as she got done with the meeting back at the locker rooms. Her eyes became wide as she saw me there with the group.
"Frost? What are you doing here?"
"The same thing yer doin'!" Kris grinned before his hand clamped down on her shoulder. "Gettin' those meds that'll help us in our studies."
I narrowed my eyes at Sophia. "I thought you were doing fine?"
"I… not really…" She looked quite upset about it under my gaze. "But… I know you do better than me… why are you here?"
I shrugged, backing off quickly as to not blow my cover. "I'm average unless it's my electives. Anything to help show a better score for colleges and technical schools down the line, right?"
"I guess…"
"Alright!" Kris pumped his fist in the air while his two buddies got up to follow him. "Follow me guys! I'll lead ya to the spot!"
Just as he began walking away did I see Sophia latch her feather covered fingers in my own. I easily let her take them as we followed after.
I was a lot more worried now. I had to keep Sophia safe while trying to bust those assholes…
Witch's Note:
Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit!
OH SHIT!
Here we go folks! Who's ready for some shit to hit the fan? I know I am! So quick recap, Frisk finally got a lead with a scout for the drug dealer who was brining in more people to distribute the drug! Looks like Frisk's acting skills managed to persuade them that she was legit!
But wait! What's this? Sophia was dragged into this too?! Oh no… Brain fried owl does not sound very good right now…
But oh well! You guys have to wait until next week to see what happens next! Now let's get to your reviews!
Thechaosmaster: I have to agree with you Chaos, math was always an easy thing for me, but for Mystic Girl on the other hand…
Mystic Girl: Oh, shut up!
Me: Yeah, not so easy for her. I had to help her out a bit in the past. Now then! Yes, Frisky has her sights on someone, but hopefully we'll find out soon enough! Who knows? But then you ask me who I pair Frisk with eventually… welp… I can't say! That's a HUGE plot twist for story two, so my lips are sealed!
BTW, just finally finished reading that behemoth of a chapter you posted! Left you a review and can't wait to see what you put out next!
MysticBoywastaken: I hoped you would. We had to figure out a name that fit well and was similar to Frisk's own name so in case a slip up happened, it wouldn't be to far off, as we've seen MK do a time or two!
Aqwillabee: Hey there! Long time no see! So glad you're enjoying the chapters and hopefully the next time we see you will be during a very special moment! I won't give out much details, but there is a chapter you're going to want to keep your eyes out for. And its chapter eighty-three. I won't give you any other details then that! XD
Commander: I'm very excited to see what it is that your friend and you make up for us for the artwork! It's going to be thrilling to see! I wish I was an artist so I could draw myself, but writing is where my skills lie. Not a terrible loss I would say…
But yes, can't say much about Flowey. In the game he was hardly seen besides some little pieces here and there and I'm trying to stay as true to that as I can. But with the way I made some of the final chapters, I hoping you and everyone else truly love it!
RoseCentury: That's so cute! I'm happy for you guys. While it wasn't much, my boyfriend and I got ourselves a little hotel room away from everything for a while just for a break and it really helped rejuvenate us. We really needed it. I hope your still doing well with the four kids. You can't be too many more weeks from birth, right?
Shadow Phantom: Shadow, do you have any idea how much I love and hate when you've already figured out my plot before the chapter even comes out?!
Raspberries123: Sorry you didn't get to see her first day in, but it would have taken another couple chapters to get her properly set up, so I had to speed up the timeline just a smidge so I didn't let this story actually reach a hundred chapters…
But maybe you'll see something similar to it in the next book? XD
Okay, that's all for now folks and with this absolute chaos left in the end for you all to deal with, I'm gonna bounce! I got work to do and I'm trying to complete your special requests as fast as I can so we have plenty of material before book two! If anyone has come up with ideas, don't be afraid to PM me or leave them in the review! I've got roughly ten chapters right now, with almost half of them all written and ready to go! But I know there's more when you guys are ready!
And I can't thank you guys enough for all the love you've given this story! We're only two reviews away from three-hundred! Can any of you believe it?! And we still have another twelve chapters to go!
Love you all and see you next week!
Halloween Witch and Mystic Girl
