BPOV

Paul ran into the house in a fluster, he must be starving. Sucks that I won't allow him to eat any of my delicious food after what happened. He looked around and caught my eyes.

"Bella, I'm sorry. It's not easy to be surrounded by people who have the other half to their heart. Sometimes, I do things before I think, but I'm not here for you. Where's Sam?"

"Bathroom. For what it's worth, apologizing makes a difference. Hungry?"

"Yes but…" just then Sam walked out from the bathroom and into the Kitchen. "We've got a problem."

Sam and Jared followed Paul outside. Paul was shaking and talking, his hands flailing a lot as whatever he said was really putting him on edge. Sam's face got dark and he glanced back at the house, meeting my eyes behind the window before looking back at Paul. Sam started saying something before both Paul and Jared took off to the tree line. Sam came back inside and went straight for Jake's room, closing the door behind him and talking too quiet for me to hear. Next thing I knew, him and Jake were both coming out.

"Jake! You should be laying down. Whatever the problem is, you need to heal before you can help." I hated all for this, and that it was my fault for getting close to the Cullens. If I had never started dating Edward, they'd be gone in a few months and Victoria wouldn't have looked twice at this area. Sam went outside and phased but stayed near the house.

"I'm right where I need to be. Where I can see you." Jake said, his breathing heavy and his body trembling like he was trying hard not to phase.

"What's wrong? Is Victoria on the reservation?" my brain started moving a mile a minute as I thought of the pack fighting another vampire just to save me. I was always putting them in harm's way.

"Worse. I need you to stay calm but what I say next is not going to make you happy."

"Is everyone ok? Embry?"

"He's fine. It's you." Jake said, gauging my reaction. "Remember, stay calm. Edward found out you broke your wrist. Alice had a vision of you at the clinic. Was Leah not around?"

"She went to grab some soda and snacks while I was in with Sue. She wasn't far but not super close either."

"Ok. That's fine, Paul's thoughts gave away what happened anyways and it was only a matter of time before they saw the cast." Jake reached out for it with a sad look on his face. "Maybe this is better because them seeing it in a vision made them plan instead of act on instinct which gives us the heads up we need."

"Heads up for what?"

"They thinks being around us is too dangerous. They also thinks they stand a better chance protecting you if Alice can see the future which only happens when you aren't with us. They're planning to kidnap you, tomorrow night" I think Jake expected me to be afraid, but I wasn't. I was pissed.

"You're joking right? Ughhh that stupid boy will never learn! Stuck at his 17 year old immature state forever. What do we do? I can stay here. I mean it's still Spring Break. What do we do after Spring Break? Maybe I could do school from home. Like if I was sick. It isn't like I can take notes with a broken wrist. I can get a copy of my friends notes and make sure I'm there for exams. I mean I'd probably still pass with flying colors if I never showed up again with how high my grades are."

"Uh. That's actually a really good idea." Jake admitted, looking surprised at my suggestion. "I mean the notes thing, not the never showing up again thing."

"One thing I need to do though and I'm not supposed to but I kind of feel given the circumstances that I should and technically I'm not part of the tribe so I don't HAVE to follow tribal rules…" I was afraid to bring up my thoughts to Jake. Not because he'd be angry but because it went against what he knew.

"What Bells?"

"I need to tell my dad. He needs to know why I'm stuck here. Why he should avoid the Cullens and the woods. I can't let something happen to him just because the tribe has rules. He's my dad and I'm your imprint. He should know."

"I agree. My dad won't agree but I definitely agree. They should be back here soon from their fishing trip."

"Ok so we sit and wait and you stay close by just in case and then I tell my dad the biggest secrets I've been hiding for over a year. I can do this. We need to make sure he doesn't have his gun so he doesn't shoot you."

"WHAT?" Jake asked, his eyes almost popping out of his head.

"Just a precaution. I'm sure he'd never shoot you."

We turned on a movie while we waited and Jake ate the food I cooked for him. If it weren't for everything going on around us, life would be perfect. Near the ending of Bruce Almighty Jake stiffened, then I heard a car pull into the driveway. I paused the movie and got out of my seat, Jake stayed where he was, still in pain from his fight with Paul. I walked to the door and opened it up for Billy, meeting them outside.

"Hey. I thought Billy isn't able to go with you guys because of the wheelchair?" I asked, not trying to sound insensitive but there really wasn't a way to ask without it happening.

"You didn't tell her?" Billy glanced at Charlie. "Charlie entered into one of those online sweepstakes a while back. They just did the draw and he won himself a brand new fishing boat. Big enough and sturdy enough for a man in a wheelchair. We retrofitted it yesterday with a wheelchair ramp and a place to dock my wheelchair without it rolling around. Bought some life vests and I get to join in on the fun again."

"It was a great day. Did I ever miss having you around." Charlie looked over at me. "This man right here is like the fish whisperer. He goes out and fish rain down on him."

"Dad?" I heard Jake yell from the living room. "Could you come in here?" Billy glanced at me and I pursed my lips and Billy rolled his wheelchair into the house. I closed the door behind him.

"Ok dad I'm just coming out and saying it and I'm going to start by saying I am so very sorry."

"Bella, are you pregnant?" Charlie looked like he was about to have a heart attack.

"Oh God, no! I'm not. I swear. We've never."

"You are together though, yes? I've seen the way you look at him now, but it's different than when Ed… It's not just friendly anymore."

"You're right. We are together but you don't need to worry about that kind of thing right now. Or any time soon. We're taking things slow." This was getting awkward fast. "Just… what I was trying to say and I'm going to speed through this or someone is going to stop me before I finish but the stories Billy told you are true. The Cullens are vampire and the boys down here and Leah are werewolves, designed to protect people from vampires. The Cullens drink animal blood though instead of so… sort of good guys."

"Ha ha. Very funny Bella."

"This isn't a joke. Edward wants to kidnap me to keep me safe from another vampire. One that wants my blood and I thought telling you would help keep me safe because I'm staying on the reservation so the pack can protect me."

Right then the front door opened up. Billy and Jake appeared behind it. Jake had no shirt on and his bruises were noticeable, as well as the puncture from one of Paul's teeth on his side that was quickly healing but still quite large. I could see Charlie's face contemplate that I might not be joking when he looked at Billy but Billy wasn't looking at him, he was looking behind him. Charlie turned around to see Sam's massive wolf form standing on the grass, he phased back into his human form, covering over himself with his hands. Jake tossed him a throw blanket from the living room to make things easier.

"I'm dreaming. Right? Fell asleep on the boat? Wait, when you ran away to Phoenix?"

"I was running from a vampire. The Cullens destroyed him." I rubbed at my scar without realising it until I felt Jake's hand on mine. Charlie looked at the spot as the sun hit it just right and it sparkled a little, he also noticed the cast on the same wrist, wrapped around my hand.

"Are you…?" he asked, his words cutting off before he could finish his question.

"No! I'm still me. Just… Bella. Edward saved me that day and he thinks he'd be saving me again. He thinks the wolves are dangerous because of the cast."

"They aren't? The hikers…"

I could see Charlie was having a hard time with this. Most of his sentences never got finished. "The cast is my own fault and the vampire that's after me is the one that tore apart the hikers. Her mate is the one Edward killed in Phoenix. She wants revenge. The pack has been trying to stop her." I went over to him and looked into his eyes. "Are you going to be okay? I never wanted to bring you in on this life but now more than ever I felt that I NEEDED you. And more than that I needed you SAFE. You wouldn't be safe in the dark."

"Well I think, given time… I'll be ok. I've dealt with worse." Charlie said, giving a sheepish smile.

"What could possibly be worse than learning the supernatural exists?" Billy asked.

"The person you love running off and taking your daughter with them. For starters."

I felt embarrassed but now more than ever, just in case, he needed to hear me say it. "I love you, Dad."

"Aww, Kiddo. I love you too." Charlie eyed Jake's injuries suspiciously. "Those from…" he cleared his throat. "Vampires?"

"No." Jake rubbed the back of his neck. "Just got into a little wrestling match with one of the other members of the pack."

"Related in any way to Bella's broken wrist?"

"Dad. I said I did this. I… Paul got under my skin and I punched him. Jake stepped in because Paul doesn't always have control of his anger. He never would have hurt me on purpose but sometimes accidents happen when they change, phase, into their wolf form. They get bigger, a lot bigger so if someone is too close they could get hurt." I looked over at Sam sympathetically, guilt on his face at the thought of what happened with Emily, Charlie noticed and I could tell from the look on his face that he understood what happened with Emily Young. "Jake made sure he was the one in the way and I was long gone but the damage was done. They're kind of tough skinned so it broke easily."

"Alright. I believe you. So where will you be staying while this issue is being taken care of? And don't even think about saying with Jake."

"Actually I was hoping I could spend more time with Leah. I'd be safe there and get some time with another girl. My circle of friends lately has consisted of a bit too much testosterone and the wrestling matches kind of make me antsy."

"Good, yeah that works for me. I'll call the school first thing on Monday morning.

"Thank you." Leah and Kim both gave me their numbers on the way back from the clinic so I took my cell phone out and sent a text to Leah asking if it would be alright to bunk with her for a bit.

/Edwards crazy. Staying on the Rez at night. Need a place to sleep. Want to do that girls night tonight?/

I hit send and after only a few seconds, my phone ding'd in my hand.

/Yes girl! I'm heading out now to pick up snacks. Romance, comedy or…?/

/Rather not. Haha. I like scary. Or thriller?/ Send

*DING*

/A woman after my own heart. I know exactly what to get./

/I'll come over after dinner and pick Kim up on the way if she's free./ Send

*DING*

/Sounds good. See you soon./

I put my phone away and smiled at the men who seemed to return to their normal bickering.

"If you'll be spending your free time down here," Billy began, "Maybe it would be best to just bring that big screen down with you. Not going to get used much in an empty house."

"Not happening old man." Charlie replied. I shook my head at the them, behaving like children.

"I need to get stuff from my house."

"That's also not happening. I'm not giving them the opportunity to take you." Jake wasn't the type to tell me what to do but my safety was on the line right now and they were essentially my body guards, putting them in unpredictable situations with the Cullen's was the last thing I wanted. "We can get someone to grab things for you. What do you need?"

"Make it Leah, and I'll make a list."

"Why Leah?" Jake asked me, genuinely oblivious to the reason.

"Because having a boy dig through my underwear drawer doesn't seem like a fun idea right now." Jake's eyes widened and he just nodded slowly in understanding before Billy and Charlie both started laughing at him.

I made a list for Leah and started making dinner while she ran to my house with Charlie to get my things. By the time they were back, I had spaghetti prepared and garlic bread about to come out of the oven, cheese melted over top. We all ate and before I knew it, it was time to head to Leah's.
