Leah POV
When I arrived at Bella's, the stench of vampire infiltrated my senses. The hair on the back of my neck stood upright and my whole body became tense. I had to make this fast. I know why Bella chose a girl to do the job but I've never been around a vampire before and just the smell is making it hard to stay on 2 legs. Maybe I should just get someone else.
Right. So they can make fun of me for not being capable? No, thank you. Charlie was behind me, he decided he'd stay on the reservation as well tonight and get an early start to fishing in the morning, enjoying his two days off before heading back into work for an extra long shift tomorrow.
"You alright, Leah?" Charlie asked, noticing my apprehension. All I could do was nod in response. Opening my mouth to allow the taste of their scent in was not going to be a good idea. I couldn't wait to get inside as Charlie unlocked the door.
I thought I was going to be able to relax when I got inside Bella's house but I was wrong. The whole place smelled of vampire as well.
/Jake contact the Cullen's. They shouldn't know we know, just that plans changed, right? Ask why they've been breaking into Bella's house./ Send
I started grabbing all of the things on Bella's list, brush, tooth brush, hair ties, her laptop, a sleeping bag and her pillow, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, conditioner, certain items of clothing she wanted including her panties and bras which is why she wanted me to get them. I tossed in a few items that looked unworn but super sexy just in case she felt she might need them with a silent giggle to myself. I took a look around and couldn't find a scarf Bella said her mother bought that she wanted. Maybe it was in the laundry. I grabbed everything else before heading downstairs to check the laundry room and couldn't find it. There was a knock at the door.
"Edward." I heard Charlie say as I closed the laundry room door.
"Hey, Charlie? I have something I need to ask Edward. Could you wait for me out in the car? I'm all done here." He nodded and left the house… hopefully keeping his thoughts in check.
"Where's Bella?" Edward asked, practically hissing at me.
"We're having a sleepover, not that it's any of your business. Jake got hurt so she's making him dinner while I grab her clothes. Then we're having a girls night." I tried being somewhat civil. I didn't want to let him get suspicious.
I could see Edward trying to read my thoughts but I just kept singing a Disney song that was stuck in my head.
"And you don't get to ask me questions. I get to ask you. Which one of you has been sneaking in here?"
"That's why I'm here. I got Jake's message. None of us have stepped inside Bella's house since we got back. Can I?" he pushed past me and started sniffing. "I don't recognize the smell. It's not Victoria's. How exactly did everything look when you got here?"
"Normal. Though something of Bella's is missing. A scarf." Now I was starting to panic. Why would a random vampire want her clothes?
"Her scent. We'll stick around the house, even when she isn't home. Whoever it was shouldn't have gotten through." Edward seemed frustrated at himself for some reason, like it was his fault before walking back outside the door.
"Ok." I locked the door using Bella's key and walked away still singing the song on my head.
"I'll find out what you're hiding from me." Edward said from behind me as I walked to Charlie's patrol car.
"I… Bella broke her wrist. She just didn't want to worry you. Asked me to keep my thoughts about it to myself. Stay out of my head." I got into the car then we were gone, far away from that asshole.

*DING*
/on our way back. Edwards a dick./
I started to laugh but it hurt. The pain was a lot less now but it still was not something I enjoyed. I figured I'd be good as new by morning.
*DING*
/Oh. It wasn't one of them and it wasn't Victoria. Bella's scarf is missing. Edward thinks the leech was looking for her scent./
Shit, that's not good news. Being a creepy Cullen would have made sense. Now there's a random vampire that knows her scent? I never told Bella about a vampire being in her house though so I needed to have that fun conversation before Leah got back. No better time than now, I always say. Not really. Putting things off is fun too. Ugh..
"Bells. I gotta tell you something." She had just set food down in front of me at the dining table. "When Leah got inside your house, she could smell a vampire. It was already gone but it wasn't a Cullen or Victoria so we have a new player on the field. To make matters worse, he seems to have stolen your scarf to get your scent from."
Bella sat down, a worried expression on her face. "So a vampire that you've never seen before, that knows nothing about me is working with Victoria?"
"That's the most likely scenario."
Bella closed her eyes and rested her head on the table. "I need a break. Life needs to give me a break!" she got louder as she said the last part. "Thank you for telling me."
"Weird thing to be thanking me for but, you're welcome."
"Edward. He would have kept that from me. You trust that I'm strong enough to know what's going on around me. You respect me. So thank you." Bella kissed my cheek softly and I hated that I couldn't pull her into my lap. Tomorrow. I'll be healed tomorrow.
I hated when Leah got there because I knew that meant Bella would be leaving soon. Having Charlie sleep on the couch though meant if she stayed, things would be awkward. I said goodnight, told Leah to keep her safe and watched this afternoon's game my dad recorded with our fathers.
