Two Worlds, Two Souls
Chapter 87: Surprises
Angel's Point of View:
It was eight in the morning when I heard the phone ring just ten feet out of my reach. Sans and Papyrus had a backup landline for others to call since Sans' phone was always filled with messages he just lazily never deleted. Or when Papyrus was so busy with his tasks, he forgot to check his phone. It was rare for that phone to ring, but when it did, Frisk was always running for it. I normally let the gosh darn thing go to voice mail... it was always a telemarketer.
"I got it!"
Frisk dove for the phone as it rang. She ripped it off the handles of the wall. "Hello! Gaster household!"
I looked around the corner long enough to watch my sister's face. She listened for a few moments before her eyes lit up in realization.
"Hi Asgore! What's up?"
I tilted my head when I heard the name of the king. It was rare of him to call the house. I wondered if he tried to reach my cell phone and didn't hear it... again...
"Angel!" I blinked when Frisk hurried over to me with the phone. "Asgore wants to talk to you! Something about the project you're working on with Sans?"
"Thank you Frisk."
Taking the phone quickly from her hands, I held it between my shoulder and ear while continuing with the baking I was doing. Hands deep in dough, I answered it. "Hello?"
"Howdy, young Angel. Forgive me for bothering you on your rare day off."
"It's not a problem Asgore, how can I help you?"
"It would seem that Ra wishes for us to gather at the barrier. He would like to check on the status of the device attempting to make an artificial soul off of your own. Would you be able to do as such today?"
"Yes, I can be ready and over in an hour. Shall I bring Sans?"
"I think it would help for him to translate the scientific terms."
"Okay. I'll be over shortly."
With that, the phone was placed back on its hanger and I returned to the baking I was doing. I felt in the mood for lemon sponge pie...
"So, what did the king want?" I glanced to the side as Frisk approached me, her question hovering in the air with curious eyes boring into me.
"He wants to check the progress of the device creating a new soul out of mine. It's supposed to clone my soul and use it help break the barrier since I have so much excess magic. They think I can handle the burden of my magic being taken to form a new soul."
My sister tilted her head at me. "And use that to break the barrier, right?"
"Right."
"What does it look like?"
"What, the device that takes my soul's magic?"
"Yeah."
"That's right... I never did show you, did I?" With no one else in the house, I carefully pulled back my shirt to show it to my sister. The black star shaped item glowed dimly red as it was pulling magic from my soul. The glassy like parts were glowing a decently bright red as my sister watched it in fascination.
It began to ache for first few days of wearing it, but it was nothing unbearable. I ignored it most of the time so long as I was busy. I wasn't about to let it get in my way. Perhaps it was still annoying painful, but so long as I was distracted, it never bothered me.
"Can I come and watch what's gonna happen?"
"Come watch?" I blinked at my sister. "You really want to come watch this guy mess around with this... thing on my chest?"
She shook her head wildly. "Yes!"
I couldn't help but raise an eye brow. Was this a new teen thing? Wanting to see weird stuff happen that perhaps would cause me to squirm? More than likely… this was Frisk I was thinking of. "I mean... if you want. I don't care. I don't know what's so exciting to watch about it, but sure."
"Cool!" With an eagerness to her step, she rushed toward the stairs. "I'll get packed then!"
"Packed? What for?"
"I'm going to stay with Tori at the castle for a few days! She and Asgore are trying to mend their relationship! Maybe even get back together! Me and Papy are gonna go stay there! Tori invited us while she's staying in the castle!" Frisk giggled very… deviously. "She's been doing that since before we were accepted by the king. So… we're gonna try and get her and Asgore back together! Its been years since they've been like that and their feelings seem to be coming back!"
"Uh…" Okay that made me a lot more worried then I would have liked. Toriel had left Asgore for many reasons in the past, both of them had scars to heal and having a push from my sister probably wasn't the best idea in the world. "I know you mean well… but I don't think you should be doing that Frisk."
She pouted quickly at my disagreement. "Why not?"
"Because there's a lot of bad blood between the two of them that they have to sort out. They need to do that themselves. It's only been a month since she began talking to him again. Feelings like the two of them had, or have now, are not easily going to change. They need time." I sighed, hands automatically settling themselves on my hips. "So, listen, don't push them. If they really do love each other that much, then they will solve their issues to be together again. A shove from anyone else may push them back in the opposite direction."
"Sis…" Frisk was quick to whine, but I stood tall, not budging at the look.
"Don't 'Sis' me. Frisk, this is different than me and Sans." I didn't know what it would take to get through to that teen, but I hoped I could. I knew I was in for a long haul when Frisk got older. I could only hope that it doesn't get too bad… "They've lost their children. Asgore claimed war on human kind if and when they ever escaped. Tori ran away from her responsibilities as queen and left her husband out to try to take care of a wounded kingdom threatening to fall. Frisk, those are serious issues that they need to address themselves and work out together rather than otherwise or with outside help. So, drop it. I will be informing Papyrus of this too, so don't think he'll be helping you once I've told him as well."
"But…"
"Enough!" My better mood quickly soured as I had to discipline her. "Another word and you will be staying with me instead."
That caused her to shut up instantly. A constant scowl placed itself on her face before she sneered a comment under her breath. With that, she took off to the upper levels to get ready.
With her gone, I could breathe a bit easier. I was quick to pull out my phone and have Papyrus and Sans come see me quickly from where they were out and about. I needed some backup before Frisk got too out of control…
Later That Day:
"My goodness!" Toriel exclaimed when she saw the large crowd of us. "We weren't expecting so many!"
There was a large group of us who decided to meet at the castle. I knew that Frisk and Papyrus were supposed to stay over with the king and former queen, but I didn't expect the captain of the guard. Undyne stood eagerly while Alphys was nervously by her side. It was a big crowd as I came with Sans at my side. The two of us holding hands as we approached. Unless he had to leave for some reason or another, he always liked some form of physical contact. Not that I could blame him… I was just as bad.
We had met with the others at the very barrier that kept us separated from the above ground. A long naturally made hallway of rocks led to where just barely we could see the light of the sun. I hadn't seen the sun in so long it was actually very hard to keep myself from not trying to push through the colorful pulsing barrier that was surrounding us. Many of the others looked on in awe of it. The rainbow of colors put out so much energy, energy that even I recognized. It felt similar to my grandmothers' magic and my own. It pulsed with such energy, even after all the years that it had sat for a century.
Of course, this would be where Frisk wanted us to meet up...
"Frisk was coming to stay with you, she'd said. And she wanted to see Alphys or Ra mess around with this thing on my chest." I carefully held my fingers to the cool metal that was attached there. Over the last few weeks, nearly thirty percent had been gathered, apparently a rather astonishing amount. For most others, it's hardly at two during the same time constraint.
My sister giggled eagerly at my side, her earlier sour mood momentarily forgotten after I'd effective told her to shut down that stupid plan of hers. She rushed up to Toriel's side and grabbed one of her hands. "I'm so excited for this weekend!"
Or perhaps she was just waiting for me to leave? That was not going to fly. I'd already talked to Papyrus about this weekend and he sadly agreed with me that he would keep Frisk in line, and inform me if she wouldn't behave.
One look from me told Frisk all she needed to know as she cowered under my intense gaze. Toriel saw that quickly and raised an eye brow.
"Do I wish to know?"
"Probably not." Sighing, I turned to our head scientist. "Alright Al, do you want to take a look?"
"S-sure!" In place of Ra, Alphys came over to look at the readings on the device. Carefully claw like fingers lingered just long enough to get a reading when Alphys gasped. "T-there was a f-five p-percent i-increase!"
"Since yesterday?" I raised an eye brow along with the other stunned monsters. "What the hell did I do? I can't think of any moment I used magic."
"Anythin' different happen today, Precious?" Sans leaned forward just a bit to enter the gaze of my widened eyes.
"No… just the disagreement I had with Frisk…" But that was the only think I could think of. "Is it possible that when I got riled up a bit that I might have let loose some magic?"
"A-any m-monster w-would normally d-do that." Alphys nodded. "B-but its d-d-different f-for humans... T-this is t-the f-first chance we h-have a-at seeing o-or working w-with a-a human..."
"Humans normally don't have magic, but in ancient times, there were a few humans who married or had children with monsters, which led to human looking children with magic or half breeds that were much more powerful than the humans had been." Toriel noted with a side glance to Asgore. "And what humans we've seen in the past couple of decades hardly showed any signs of magic. You and Frisk are the first."
"I see..."
"I-it w-would seem t-that y-you put out a-a l-lot of m-magic w-when f-feeling s-strong e-emotions." Alphys said as she continued to feel over the device. Her claws felt warm compared to the metal, even as it had sat against my warm skin. "B-but! D-don't t-think t-that you s-should u-use your m-magic t-to m-make i-it g-g-gather f-faster."
"I wasn't planning on it." I shook my head quickly. "I know it stings just a bit right now, and while I want to help everyone here. However, I know that I won't be helpful if I push myself too much and this device takes too much from me."
I felt a squeeze to the hand I held in mine. "Good ta here, Precious."
"Why thank you, Dar-"
"King Asgore!" All heads turned to see Ra rush into the narrow tunnel we were standing within. "The six souls were stolen!"
"What?!" Asgore roared after a few beaded moments of silence passed over us in shock.
It was in those same moments that we were trying to understand the situation before the ground began to shake. I glanced down at our feet only to see the stones breaking and vines crawling through them.
"MOVE!"
At my scream, everyone dove away. Only a single glace to my partner, Sans nodded and we both dove for a younger one. I managed to snag Frisk with my chains and yank her to me, while Sans teleported to Papyrus. My sister clung to me as we hurried around the room. Screaming could be heard from the others as we all attempted to escape.
I leapt into the pathway that led back to the throne room. Once I had a second to focus, my eyes landed on something so terrible. The vines had ripped up through the ground and had captured everyone, save for Frisk and I. They were tangled in the sharp thorn-coated vines, cutting into their clothes, skin and bones. In those same moments as I was trying to figure out how to free them, another wave of vines shot up out of the ground with the six different colored human souls that had been gathered in the past.
"What's happening?!" Frisk couldn't help but yell in my ear while I her close.
"Ha ha ha!" A child-like demonic voice echoed in to the air before a flower appeared before the feet of my friends. It was bright and yellow in color; I couldn't help but question it until I saw a face appear on it. Spiteful eyes glanced out, watching us with such pride and eagerness.
Frisk gasped as she held onto my body. Her form shaking a bit as she did so. "Flowey..."
"That's right..." I hissed out. "That's the damn flower that attacked us when we first fell here. Wingdings said it was following us."
"And now I have enough power to face all of you!" With a child's voice that was much too evil then it should have been, it cackled and laughed at us. "With the six souls and the other monsters that I've devoured, I have enough power to face you now! Now I can take your powerful souls!"
"The hell ya want ya damn flower?" Undyne hissed as she yanked at her bonds. I was surprised when the captain couldn't break free. I was really surprised at that. Undyne normally couldn't be stopped by much of anything. I knew she wasn't using her full strength then, but still...
The greedy flower I watched carefully as it yanked the other human souls close to it. The stupid flower ate the souls. His constant giggling became deeper and his size began to grow. He threw his head up to the ceiling in his laughter as he absorbed the energy.
I raced to look at Sans who I could see his eye was already flaring while he and Papyrus were held together in vines. My partner nodded quickly before my magic flared and hurled spinning chains in the direction of my friends. All of them were released while the flower was distracted and... morphing?
What the hell was going on?
Everyone moved the second their feet hit the floor. Granted, it was in those same moments that the flower noticed us free. He screamed out before his vines shot forward to grab the others. I forced my magic to yank Frisk and I back while also chopping every vine that came in our direction to protect the others who rushed away. Poor Alphys couldn't move fast enough so Undyne scooped her up to carry. Sans kept teleporting himself and Papyrus away, just out of the reach of the vines. The royal couple shot fireballs from their fingers to keep the plants at bay.
Everyone was trying to keep each other safe, but there were so many vines. We were overwhelmed so quickly before we could truly fight that strange monstrosity.
A scream caught my attention as I saw Ra was grabbed by the vines. Before any of us could save him, the flower gobbled him up. Some of the others were so stunned that they didn't notice the flower closing in.
"MOVE!"
My cry caused the others to move, but darkness came over the area. I could barely see Frisk's face beside me as we used the glow of my magic to see each other and move. Rocks were hurled at us as I attempted to dodge in the darkness. Screaming was heard all around me, including my sister's while she tried to help, but was too started to help very much. I'd never trained her for scenarios such as that.
When light blinded us, I jumped backward as I shielded my eyes before I could see the demolished landscape again. The barrier had been exposed more and Flowey's terrifying form was just finishing off...
Wait... what?
Was that Papyrus' scarf that he just slurped down his throat?
Frisk screamed. "PAPY!"
Quickly scanning the area, I saw that none of our friends were there. Panic swept up into me as the enlarged flower rubbed its lower stem that I assumed was its belly.
"So many souls! So much power!" Flowey hissed in glee. "All that's left is you two! I'll take you in two and destroy the human world! I'll destroy everything!"
Flowey continued to grow in size and energy as the moments ticked by. It was all I could do to keep the vines back and keep evading the crazed thing before us. Then suddenly, he froze. He convulsed on himself and keeled over, but not before being covered in a white light.
I hurled up a shield of chains to protect us and felt that we were thrown away. We felt no pain, but the second that I glimpsed out of my barrier did I gasp.
A creature that looked just like Asgore and Toriel stood there. A goat of slender figure, normal sized and dressed in a similar garb to Toriel's purple dress appeared. Horns protruded heavily from his head and black sclera with a red pupil. Demonically sharp looking teeth decorated around his mouth.
Slowly the creature rose to his feet and grinned madly at us. "I'm alive again! It was just like Chara said it would happen!"
Chara? The dead princess?
It was just like Wingdings had guessed, that monstrosity that had been experiment on using dust and magic was the dead prince, Asriel Dreemurr.
"I'm going to make those humans pay!" Asriel snarled, summoning what appeared to be a rainbow-colored set of swords in his hands. The barrier reacted to all the souls he had ingested as well as his ever-growing magic. It fluctuated and pulsed like a living heartbeat. "Starting with you two!"
"Frisk, get back!"
I shoved my sister away from me while she wailed. My chains racing to hold back the monster's rapid attacks.
"Angel! He ate everyone!"
"I know!" I couldn't afford to look away with the demon before us. "Run!"
"But Angel-"
"Don't argue with me!" I narrowed my eyes at the creature while it cackled in glee. Never looking away from each other, its eyes glowed in malice.
"Having trouble, Angel?"
"Shut your mouth!"
My options for what I could do were few. I had a limited time I knew to save the others that were devoured by that monster before me. His power was growing as the souls sat there inside him. I honestly… didn't even know if they were alive anymore.
The feelings that meshed in my chest ached so painfully. My friends… my family… my loved one… all of them in a few seconds gone from my sight and only Frisk remained, just like it had been in the beginning. How could the world be so cruel to me? Allowing me such a pleasure and godsend in life before ripping it all away? How was life truly so cruel?
It was just like before… When we lost it all near seven years ago…
But if Frisk was honestly all I had left… I had to put my life on the line to keep her safe.
"Frisk, you need to run, do it before I can't keep him back."
"Angel, but the others-"
"Go!" My holler I could feel startle her as she stood there frozen. One chain of my hurled backward to grab her before throwing her down the path away from the fight. She screeched as she landed so many feet away before my magic created a wall behind me so that Asriel couldn't pass.
"So, it's just you and me, Terians." Like a snake, the undead creature stalked around me. "How shall we play this game?"
"I'm not playing a game." The snarl that escaped me was low and deep. It rumbled in my vocals before I pushed my body to the extremes. I had to, to save my sister and everyone else that I could from that monster.
Three chains wrapped around an area before me and pain shot into my chest as I brought forward my ultimate move. The souls of the dead attached to me cried as they watched the situation before them. The bodies of my parents and Wingdings appeared before me as a shield. While Wingdings dove before me, magic already glowing orange at his fingertips, my parents charged.
We had to stop this monster before it was too late.
Witch's Note:
So, did anyone ask for Flowery? XD Or Asriel? Or his pain in the ass boss battle when he comes back to life when he actually has some kind of a soul again?
The time has come folks! Here we are toward the end where finally we have the battle with the flower, but how will it end? How will I put my own spin on it? I guess you'll just have to come back and see what happens next time!
Now! Let's look at some reviews!
MysticBoywastaken: Hey there MysticBoy! I'm sorry we have chatted for a bit, but it's been a technical difficulty over here. I don't know why this happened, but normally when you all review me, I get an email to let me know about it with a copy of what you said. But the last couple of chapters, it didn't go through! I just happened to notice them when I was searching for something for Mystic Girl and then I noticed that problem. I'll try to be more careful from now on.
But as for the surgery, I'm not going to die. I'll get fixed before it gets that bad. I'll be fine. Not the first time I've been under. And the reason I don't respond every chapter is if I don't see a review from you, I have nothing to respond to.
Dansasi: Ha! Good to see you! And as for the whole theory on Gaster, I went with an entirely separate idea. No cloning, nothing like that. I've hinted at it throughout the story, but Papy and Sans had a mom who died when Papy was a few months old. She did a traditional monster birth that ended up killing her because her son took too much of her magic. It can be deadly and dangerous, and more information on that will be in book two!
Commander: Welp, you asked for it! Here ya go!
But let's stop and hold the phone here! You want HER to play the IMPOSIBLE QUIZ?
(Mystic Girl just looks at me quite started from where she was just waking up from her sugar crash.) Oww… what hit me?
Me: Sugar. Now that you're up, Commander has a new question for you… and I'm not sure how you're going to like this…
Mystic Girl: (She tilts her head in confusion.) I have to go somewhere for a question?
Me: (Sigh) If your sanity survives more than two seconds, I'll give you a batch of my boyfriend's dumplings.
Mystic Girl: (She instantly drools and follows me like a dog.)
Thechoasmaster: I had a feeling you would love that chapter, Chaos! It was always my thought that they would get caught in some sort of fashion and that's what my little mind made into existence! And I love the reference you made for Frisk! Both she and Angel kinda act like that when they're swinging around on their chains. They come from the soul, so it could be from front, back, almost anywhere! And yes! MK is now amazing in his learning to become a better person to help the world after figuring out how to help himself! (Possibly with some help of some science people he hangs out with a lot. Cough-Sans-Cough) Ehm, excuse me.
Shadow8Phantom: Having MK have magical hands was a thought that crossed my mind once or twice, but I really had to put that kid through the ringer. Had to make him work for it! Besides, light magic can be handy too! Could help him with machine making so he can see every angle with the light he creates!
RoseCenturey: Rose! Hey! How's it been and the kids? I know you've been sending updates and everything to let us know about them, you and the flower shops. Sorry for not responding, your reviews didn't go through for the last couple of chapters to. But you had the four of them okay? Were they all to term or pretty close?
Okay, welp, buckle up folks! I hope your in for a wild ride! You asked for it and you got it!
See you all next week! Love you!
Halloween Witch and Mystic Girl
