Chapter 3
Several Weeks Later
What will it take to get some peace and quiet around here?
Gajeel shoved another handful of screws into his mouth, doing his best to ignore the noise around him. He expected it, really, after the crushing blow he just delivered to those pesky Fairies. But destroying the guild hall required more magical power than he expected and his annoying comrades weren't helping him recover in the slightest.
"I bet they're all feeling oh so sad right now, eh Gajeel?" a voice shouted next to him.
With a growl, Gajeel turned his arm into metal and shot it at the loud mage. "Shuddup, I'm tryin' ta eat."
"Yeah man, let him be. He just gave those fairies a thrashing they won't forget!"
The guild cheered and roared, making Gajeel roll his eyes. They were just trying to get on his good side, that was it. He could see the calculating gleam in their eyes, so much more apparent now that he had met someone without a devious bone in her tiny body.
The group suddenly quieted and Gajeel looked up to see the guild master standing on the top landing. "That's right, Gajeel has been working hard for the guild. We must give him our thanks."
Some thanks. The moment I'm beat they'll turn loyalties quicker than a vulcan seeing fire.
A warm smile and an honest conversation flashed through his mind. He shook it off and placed another screw into his mouth.
"Tch, they won't move from just a simple thing like that."
The mages quieted, looking to their guild master. Jose leaned across the banister, stroking his long mustache. "What did you have in mind?"
Something that would make them regret getting on Jose's bad side. Something that would show once and for all who the strongest was. And maybe after that, he would finally find a home and forget all about random brown eyes.
Gajeel smirked, "I have a present planned for them."
