"Where did you hear that term?" Edward asked, his eyebrows furrowed at my question.

"From you, in the future. You called me to ask if the little girl playing with children of my own, was safe with me. You said the Volturi was after her. You were upset. What is a Volturi?"

"I made an immortal child? I can't see any reason why I would ever do that."

"No she… I remember saying that her daddy was a vampire but her mommy was human. And she was allowed down on the reservation for some reason. Is a half human, half vampire hybrid even possible?" It didn't seem right, but that's what future me said, so it must be true.

"Tell us everything?" Alice asked, and I did, every detail that I could remember.

"I've heard stories," Alice had a far away look while telling us about what she'd heard. "I never knew they were true. A vampire that is male, can in theory, get a female human pregnant. Not the other way around though since becoming a vampire stops the menstrual cycle so no eggs would grow or release."

"Ok, well regardless, I think my vision was telling me that I need to learn how to do this to help protect that child."

"That is possibly true, Bella, but that doesn't mean you need to stress over it. It's years away if it was accurate." Alice said. Edward was lost in his own world, trying to figure out what could possibly happen that would bring him to a future where he was an actual father. I couldn't imagine being a 100 year old vampire and learning that.

"I know. But I'm going to try again. That little girl is going to need me someday." I took a deep breath and pictured my latex sheet, stretching and pushing it away from my body. Come on Bella, you can do this. I pushed a little further, picturing it move away from my body. It felt heavy, like it was made of something thicker than actual latex. I strained, furrowing my brows as I pushed further.

"Alice?" Edward said, looking oddly at Alice. "Are you still singing?"

"Yes."

"I…" Edward looked at me and smiled. "I can't hear anything. I mean I can hear Charlie inside the house, thinking about the mortgage. He's irritated but grateful. From you? Absolute silence, just like Bella. Can you… is it possible to take the shield away from yourself?"

"I-I can try."

"Edward, she only just began. Give her time. The fact that she is capable of doing anything without being a vampire is unheard of, aside from psychic abilities which generally manifest with age."

I ignored the conversation that was going on around me as my dad walked out of the house and down the steps, further away than Alice, but not too far, I hoped. I tried to stretch it over him as well and the further I went, the heavier it felt. I closed my eyes and concentrated, pulling the sheet that was now a thick, heavy blanket over Charlie.

"Absolutely amazing. Charlie's thoughts just cut off mid sentence."

"What's going on out here?" I could hear Charlie ask, though he sounded distant with the extreme concentration I was attempting to keep.

"Did Bella explain to you about our abilities?" Alice asked, moving closer to Charlie. It took everything in me to keep her under my shield and I could feel my body sweating with the strain.

"Yeah, she did."

"And her own?"

"She mentioned something about a barrier of sorts, which is why Edward can't read her mind."

"Well, she's practicing moving it and stretching it. She is extremely talented. It's unheard of that a power that is not psychic one, manifesting while someone is human, completely unbeknownst to the owner, and two, being able to even control a power like this so easily. It takes a lot of time and practice to manipulate powers beyond their initial manifestation."

"So, she's special?"

"Special doesn't even come close to describing Bella. If she became a vampire, which I know, not happening, but, she could be one of the most, if not THE most powerful vampire yet."

I relaxed my shield, trying hard to bring it slowly back instead of just letting it go and I could feel the sheet return to just over me.

"Wow, who would have thought this is where my Bella would end up?"

"I can hear both your thoughts again. Bella, are you alright?" I heard Edward say but I didn't have it in me to respond while trying so hard to focus.

I took a few deep breaths and concentrated on tossing the sheet off of me. It seemed almost like it was anchored to me but after a few minutes, I was able to remove it just long enough for Edward to notice. Testing, testing. One, two, three.

"Bella… I." He looked like he could cry, though I had no idea why, then he explained. "I have wished for the past year and a half that I could hear those beautiful thoughts of yours. Thank you for giving me that small gift, even if it was just a mic test."

"You heard me?" I couldn't believe it. I had mystical vampire abilities but as a human, and I could control them.

"You are truly special, Isabella Swan." Alice complimented, pulling me in for a hug.

"Thank you. I'm REALLY exhausted now though. Do you mind? I need a shower, and sleep."

They both nodded, then took off to patrol around the house, keeping both of us safe.

"I will never get used to their speed." Charlie admitted, mostly to himself.

"So, you going to explain why you didn't think it was necessary to tell me about financial problems?" I was ready to scold him like a child, still sometimes forgetting that Charlie was not Renee and actually knew how to take care of himself.

"I would have, if things got bad enough. I was still trying to figure things out. Alice was right about the house and I was hoping to figure things out on my own. I had an inspector come in and not only are the wires bad, but so is the plumbing. We have a few pipes, luckily not outflow, starting to leak. If we don't figure something out soon, there could be mold problems, electrical issues and even a fire, like Alice saw. I was trying to figure out how to pay for a renovation, and the mortgage and all of my other bills. She also contacted a few companies on my behalf to come in and renovate. Though given the age of the home, it's likely we'd need to leave for a while so they can do an asbestos abatement. That alone could be tens of thousands of dollars. When I found out, I started trying to figure out how I could afford the mortgage and the abatement and renovation. That's when I got a call from the bank stating I was mortgage free."

"I think you should take her up on the offer. She can afford to pay for it. Normally I would say don't, but I can't imagine what would happen if you lost our home because of this. My only thing is, where would we stay? You can't sleep on Billy's couch for possibly months. I'm good in the twins room but you'd have nowhere."

"Actually I was already thinking about that. Deputy Mark has an extra bedroom. I was going to ask if I could rent it temporarily." Charlie scratched the back of his head, I think embarrassed that this situation was even a possibility. It essentially meant I'd be temporarily living with Jake. What would that even mean for us? We already couldn't keep our hands off each other when left alone. Would he get sick of seeing me so much? I knew there was no way I'd tire of him.

"Bells?" Charlie called for my attention, I've been zoning out far too frequently lately.

"Yeah. Sorry. Just trying to picture it. I mean it's only 20 minutes from school so I shouldn't have a hard time getting there. And you'd be closer to work."

"I was actually thinking the renovation could start after school graduation, to make things easier on you."

"Oh, yeah that makes sense. I suppose there isn't much time left before graduation." Wow, only 2 months. I shook my head to keep from getting lost in thought again.

"Have you heard back from Peninsula College?" Charlie asked, trying to keep a conversation. Things had gotten easier with Charlie when Jacob walked back into my life. I think he was afraid we might go down that road again where we barely speak.

"Not, yet. But I'm not concerned. Even if I don't get accepted, I'm sure things will work out. I have a good feeling about my future. No negative Bella here."

"That's great Bella. I'm glad you're not letting everything that's been going on affect you too much. I'm going to head to bed. You have school tomorrow, you should do the same."

"Of course. I'll be right behind you." Charlie walked back inside while I walked over to my school bag and picked it up off of the ground to bring inside when I heard a rustle in the treeline. "Alice? Edward?" I called quietly. Maybe it was just a raccoon or something less scary than a vampire out for my blood. I heard a rustle again and when I looked toward it, I could see white glowing eyes staring back at me. My heart started to pound in my chest as I slowly backed up toward the door behind me when a large figure appeared from behind the trees. I sighed in relief as I recognized the figure as a wolf, though it was still too dark to see which one until he stepped out further into the brightness the porch barely cast on the backyard.

"Jake! You scared me half to death. What are you doing here? Alice and Edward are keeping an eye on me."

Jake phased in front of me, the process looked painful but he didn't seem to have an issue with it. He stood before me completely naked.

"What if my dad sees you? Put something on."

"Relax. He's already passed out, he sure does fall asleep fast. Alice had a vision about the boy, Riley. Her and Edward went to Seattle to check it out. Thought if maybe they could help dwindle the numbers before they come down this way, it will make the fight easier. So they called me to come watch over you until they get back. Don't worry about them. Alice said she saw everything end well. It's just that one vampire trying to change someone so they went to stop it before it happens."

"So, you're my bodyguard tonight?" Jake smiled and motioned for me to come to him.

"You think I'd let another wolf keep watch over you after you sent me that text?" He smirked at me and winked. "I don't want to step any further into the light, just in case he wakes up."

"Okay." I walked over to Jake, who had backed up further into the trees. "You know. I can't see in the dark like you can. Help me out?"

I felt his hand at my waist, then his other found the opposite wrist and he started pulling me into the darkness.

"So… I was shocked when I looked at my phone and your message came through from 'Jacob Jingle Heimer Schmidt'. Know anything about that?"

"His name was my name too. If that's what yours comes up as in my phone, it only makes sense for mine to be your name too." I couldn't keep the smile off my face, I thought it was hilarious.

"Cute. But I'm not here for cute."

He led me into the woods a few more feet. I could still see the lights from the house but none of them hit me anymore, so if Charlie came looking, he wouldn't even see me. Jake must have thought the same thing, because next thing I knew, I was pressed up against a tree and Jake's mouth was on mine, kissing me like he hadn't seen me for a year. His mouth left mine, and I took a few shaky breaths as his mouth trailed down to my neck, nipping every so often. It was hard to keep quiet.

Jake spun me around, undoing the tie at the back of my shirt then when the shirt was loosened enough, he reached around to cup my breasts in his hands, his body pressing against mine so he could reach. He reached down with one of his hands and undid my jeans, then he stepped back and pulled them down to my ankles.

"Jake?" I wasn't really sure what I'd say if he responded, but I had a feeling he wouldn't. He seemed very into what he was doing and if it weren't for our surroundings, I would be as well, but I couldn't help but wonder if we were truly alone, given the amount of wolves and vampires that kept watch over me. Jake pulled my hair to one side and kissed the back of my neck so my thoughts didn't stay there long.

Jake helped me slip a leg out of my jeans, then he separated my feet and pushed gently on my back to bend me over. I held onto the tree in front of me, unsure I'd be able to stand if he did what I thought he was about to do.

"Fuck, Bells…" Jake said, and there was practically a whimper in his voice as he stared at my body. I looked back at him and he smirked then touched between my legs, preparing me for what came next.

The position made things feel completely different then before and Jake was able to go deeper than ever. I had no idea how it actually managed to fit in there, but it did, and it felt incredible.
