BPOV

When my eyes opened, I was met with the sounds of snoring and a dimly lit room. I was in the twins room and hooked up to a few machines. Reaching hurt a bit, but was manageable. The sky was dark, but the clock said 3:47PM. Thunder rattled the walls making me jump.

"Ow!" I cried out, something hurt but I wasn't sure I could pinpoint it. I went to reach for my dad's hand and saw the bandage on my arm.

The battle between Victoria and Jake flashed through my memory, making me wish I was back in my dream. Jake.

"Da-ad?" I coughed out painfully, my throat felt dry and I had no energy to move. It also felt like I was kicked by a horse.

"Bells?" Charlie shot up, rubbing his eyes. "Oh God, Bella! Alice, she's awake!" he called, and to my surprise, Alice walked in. "It's going to be okay kiddo. You're going to be okay."

"Hey Sleepyhead. How was your nap?" Alice joked. I had a feeling she knew what I was going to ask and wanted to avoid answering.

"I was dreaming. I was getting married to… Where's Jake?"

"Marriage, huh? Never thought I'd hear that from you." Charlie said, obviously trying to distract me as well.

"I can see it now, you'll look so beautiful." Alice added.

"Where. Is. JAKE?" I practically growled, and the door opened behind Alice. Billy walked in. "Oh my God, Billy! You're walking!"

"Hey kid, I guess all those vamps being so close kind of flipped a switch in me. Not a wolf but it seems I am in perfect health. Carlisle said he's going to see how Harry is tomorrow at his check up."

"Wow, that's amazing." I said, realising I had successfully been distracted. "Billy, where's Jake? Is he… I saw Victoria…" A sob tore through me as I failed to finish what I was saying.

"He's… He'll get there." Billy said, a sorrowful look replaced the happy one that was there only a moment ago.

I tried to get out of bed but Alice wouldn't let me, and I was hooked up to a few things.

"We need to disconnect these if you want to move around, and you need to take it slow." Alice said. "You lost a lot of blood and while most has been replaced, you're still going to be a bit off balance for a bit. You also have a broken rib.

"So you need to take it easy, no strenuous activities. " Alice said, unhooking me temporarily from the machines, then helping me to my feet. She held onto me as we walked into Jake's bedroom.

His body lay there, sweat pouring off his skin as he tossed back and forth. Groaning in pain despite the morphine dripping into his veins.

"Carlisle said if he wasn't a wolf, there's no way Jake would have survived those injuries, even with him as his doctor." Alice explained.

I wasn't sure if she was trying to make me hopeful or explain how serious the situation was but seeing Jake in so much pain, especially when it was my fault, hurt worse than I thought possible.

"How long until…" I couldn't finish my question. Tears welled in my eyes as my vision blurred. "I want to stay in here, can you bring everything in here?"

I sat in a chair that was placed at the side of Jake's bed and waited to be hooked back up to the IV, blood bag and morphine.

I reached for Jake's hand and was shocked by the heat emanating from it. Come on, Jake. You can do this. I looked around the room and noticed Leah was standing in the corner.

"Victoria said she had to repeat the same route every day without making a move. That way she was close enough but without the decision which would trigger a vision, she was able to get close. Then she made the decision on a whim and everyone was already in place because of the routine. Leah tell me everything that happened on your end?"

"Um, well me and Jake were running the treaty line. He had the North while I took the South. There hadn't been any signs. As Jake got closer to the river, I could feel his pain as a newborn jumped straight out of the river from a deep spot and attacked. Jake managed to fight him off and got far enough away from the river to be safe and gave off a howl to alert the rest of the pack.

"I was already on my way. By the time I got there, Jared and Sam were there too and everyone else quickly followed behind. Soon after we were met by the Cullen's. All except Alice so Jake took off in search of her and you while we took out the very uncoordinated vampires.

"When we were done, we came right to you while the Cullen's took care of burning the bodies but the job was already done when we got there." Leah explained, looking worn.

"Is everyone else ok?" I asked, feeling selfish that I hadn't asked about Sam.

"Yeah, few scrapes, couple broken bones. Paul got the worst of us, aside from Jake. He has a few cracked ribs and a huge gash across his back. He keeps saying chicks dig scars but Angela keeps assuring him they do not, and even if they did, they would have to go through her."

"I'm glad everyone is doing okay. Angela didn't get hurt?"

"She stayed behind. Her and Sam met up with two new wolves. He told her to stay and babysit them while the more experienced wolves went to the frontlines. Collin Littlesea, Jake and Angela's cousin and Brady Fuller, my… cousin once removed? I can never remember how those things work. My greataunt's grandchild. They're younger than Seth."

"Oh wow, running out of older teens in the bloodlines?" I need to keep talking, or else my brain would have too much time to think about Jake's pain.

"I don't think. We have other family that should be affected but aren't. I'm not sure how the selection process works." Leah replied, and I could tell she was not happy with the latest addition to pack members.

"Maybe personality, or maturity level? Actually no. Quil's pretty immature. I'd say Seth was a better candidate from the start if we base it on maturity."

"You're not wrong." Leah chuckled as Sam walked in with two teacups.

"Ladies." He nodded his head in greeting. "Figured you'd need a little pick-me-up. Two milk and a sugar?"

"Yeah." I nodded. "How'd you know?"

"Mind link." Sam tapped his head near his temple. "Jake didn't want to interrupt you one morning when you were in the kitchen, so he just watched. I want you to know Bella that even before all of this werewolf shit, Jake was truly crazy about you. He'll get through this, if only just to see you smile again."

"I know he will. I can feel it."

Charlie walked in behind Sam with a tray of sandwiches. "So what do we tell everyone?"

"I have a thought." All eyes looked toward me. "Jake and I went camping, against your orders to stay out of the woods. The uh… dangerous wolves everyone's been seeing attacked us. Jake got hurt worse, trying to protect me and I was able to get to my phone and call you. You managed to hunt them down and kill them so there is no more threat to the people of Forks.

"If they ask where the bodies are, say the Quileute people took them. Wolves are protected by the tribe. They aren't angry at what had to happen but the bodies needed to be honored in a way that only the tribe could do."

"That actually might work, and as for Billy, between your meals and me getting him outside the house every week, he just naturally regained the muscles lost in his legs over time." Charlie agreed to the plan, which was better than nothing.

I reached for a sandwich but flinched as the pain in my left arm shot through my body.

"Here." Charlie brought the sandwiches over to the other side of me. "Don't overdo it, Bells."

"Thanks, dad."

/Later/

"Jake." I whispered into the sleeping ear of my husband, eyeing the beautiful ring adorning my left hand. "Babe, wake up."

"Hmmm? I'm awake. What is it?" Jake opened one eye, practically growling at the sun streaming in through the window.

"I have something to show you." I was so excited I almost squealed.

I had his full attention now. Jake never saw me like this. He smirked at me, then raised an eyebrow, encouraging me to continue.

"Well…" I held out the small piece of plastic and watched Jake's face, twisting like he was doing a hard puzzle.

"Are you…?" he asked when his brain figured out what I was holding and the results.

I nodded. "We're having a baby!" Jake grabbed me and pulled me on top of him in bed, where we made love, celebrating the good news.

When I woke up, the scene wasn't nearly as welcoming. Machines, wires and hoses were hanging beside me. They were all attached to Jake, my own were removed at some point that I don't remember being awake for. I was still sitting in the chair beside Jake's bed and the sky was starting to brighten. It was a dream.
