BPOV

"What's going on?" Billy asked, noticing my exchange with Edward.

Edward spoke up before I could, which was good because I wasn't sure I could voice what was happening.

"I couldn't see anything in Jacob's head. I thought it was because he was unconscious but when I tried to tap into that same spot on Bella's brain that I saw Jacob's brain injuries, we realised it was the part that holds memories. Jake's was void of memories."

Billy looked back to Jake. "Son, what do you remember?"

"I…" Jake laid there for a minute, thinking then his eyes met Billy's. "I don't know. Nothing? How is that possible?"

"Jake?" I asked.

"Yeah? What's going on?"

"He knows his name, I wonder what else." Carlisle asked. Stepping forward. Jake's lip curled in response. Carlisle stopped instantly, unsure if Jake would realise he was one of the good guys. "Do you know who we are?"

"I don't. Should I?"

"That's your father, Billy. And your girlfriend, Bella. Her dad, the chief of Police, Charlie. I'm Carlisle, your doctor and this is Edward, my son. He's been helping me with your progress."

"What's that smell? It burns my nose."

"The world is full of things that are hard to explain. My son and I are vampires, but we're the good guys. You shapeshift into a giant wolf to protect your tribe from bad vampires. Your injuries were caused by a battle between a large group of vampires and us, your wolf pack and my family of vampires. Together we defeated them but you sustained injuries that we we're still trying to figure out."

"This is some kind of joke. Right?"

"That smell is my son and I. Vampires smell bad to you as a warning of our presence. This is not a joke. We need you to understand that. Given your strength, you need to understand just how easily you could hurt someone without even trying. For now though, just take everything easy and you should be good. You ARE still healing from those brain injuries."

"You're not joking?" Jake glanced around the room and when his eyes met mine, it felt like he'd imprinted on me all over again. His wolf knew me, even if he didn't. I gave him a gentle smile and his face lit up. "Hi."

I couldn't help the blush that spread across my face. "Hey. I'm just glad you're okay. We'll work on the memory."

"Sounds good, uh after food? I feel like I'm starving."

"Of course. Please try not to bite Carlisle's head off while he checks you over though. I'll go get you that food."

I walked outside the bedroom and Charlie held me tight as my knees went weak. A sob ripped through me.

"His memory will return, Bella. It has to." I cried into Charlie's shoulder, the sob's less painful in my chest than they were a week ago.

I took a few deep breaths, wiped my tears and pulled away from Charlie. "Thanks dad. I needed that. I'm going to get him some food though. My prayers have been answered, I shouldn't cry about it."

"All our prayers, Bells. He hadn't left any of our thoughts for the past week."

"I know, I just think mine did the trick. Is that naïve of me to think? I finally broke down. After a week I finally let it all hit me when I was in the truck and begged the spirits to give him strength, that their alpha needed them. And only a moment later you said he was waking up."

"Maybe it was coincidence but given everything that's happened recently, you could be right. If the spirits listened to anyone, of course it would be you. Who else could be sending you visions of the future?"

I'm glad Charlie believed me, it made me feel less crazy. I shuffled around the kitchen. Tossing a casserole dish in the oven. Neighbors had stopped by each morning to talk with Billy and gift us a meal. The neighbors and tribes people were taking turns to ensure their Chief was well taken care of in his time of need.

I picked up my phone and dialed Leah.

"Hello, sunshine. How's our fearless leader doing today? I was about to head over with a board game. Thought you might need a distraction."

"He's awake."

"What? Oh my God! Bella that's amazing news. Sam!" I heard her put the phone up to some fabric and call to Sam in the background. "he's awake!"

Cheers and whoops could be heard in the background. Sounded like almost everyone was there.

"We'll leave you guys alone for today, but we should meet up tomorrow, at least me and Sam. Sam being the ex-alpha slash temporary leader and me being Jake's Beta. Are you good with that, Mrs. Alpha?"

How do I do this? Like a bandaid? Or ease into it? I feel like if I have a long drawn out explanation I would break down before I ever got the words out. Bandaid it is.

"He has no memory. Jake's gone."

/Leah POV/

"He has no memory. Jake's gone." Bella said.

I didn't notice my phone slip from my hand until I heard Sam speak next to me, having caught it.

"What is it, Bella? Leah looks like she saw a ghost." I could hear mumbling on the other side, then a pause. "We're on our way."

"He's…" I couldn't seem to form a coherent sentence.

"Everybody, listen up. Bella says that Jake is awake." Embry started to cheer when Sam shushed him. "There's another hurdle. Jake seems to have amnesia. I'm going to go with Leah to figure out all that we can. Just, go about your day as normal. If I need anyone, I'll call."

My stomach was in my throat as we walked to meet Bella. How could he have amnesia? How could he forget his imprint or his pack? We were family and he just didn't know us anymore. It felt unreal. Jake and I had gotten close since phasing and I couldn't imagine what Bella must be feeling.

When we got to the Black house all I could smell was vampire, but I recognized the scent. They tried to keep it to one or two at most that way no more people would have this fate forced on them. There were enough werewolves by now that we could defend ourselves easily against any threat.

Sam wanted to mention to Jake when he woke up that there had been a few more people that changed during our fight though it was hard to recognize it in all the commotion. Most of us had no idea until after bringing Jake home. We now had 18 members to the pack, approximately 1/3 of La Push residents with children had a child in the pack.

Sam wanted to propose a tribal meeting with all members, and their immediate families as well as the school to make sure that everyone was aware and that those out protecting the tribe would hopefully get a little give when it came to school work, if they held a job, and an easier time at home.

Carlisle and Edward were just leaving as we go to the door, Edward pulled Bella into a hug and I could tell that she was near breaking. He tilted her chin to look her in the eyes.

"Everything WILL be okay, I promise you. This is not where your future lies, there is a brighter one." He kissed her on the cheek and walked away.

Edward nodded to us as we passed.

"Bella!" I wrapped my arms around her, trying to ignore the vampire stench that was stronger on her clothing and hair. "How is he?"

"He seems, good. Completely healed aside from whatever is going on in his head. Carlisle just gave him the ok for pretty much everything."

"And you?" Sam asked, his eyes spoke volumes to how much he cared for her. She had become like a little sister to him.

"I… I hurt, um everywhere? But I don't think any of the physical pain comes close to what I'm feeling about this situation with Jake."

"Bella, I'm going to go talk to him, by myself if that's okay?" I said, hoping she'd be okay with it.

"You go do that. Me and Sam need to catch up anyways."

I grabbed two mugs and filled them with hot coffee and walked toward the bedroom.

"Knock knock." I said, my hands too full to actually knock.

"Who's there?" Jake asked, and I wasn't sure if he was expecting me to say my name or tell him a joke. Not that saying my name would give him any indication of who was out here so I went with a joke.

"Howl." I said then shook my head at the stupidity.

"Howl who?" he asked from behind the door.

"Howl you know if you don't open the door?"

"Good one." He said as he opened the door, allowing me access to his room. He closed the door behind me, at the very least allowing us privacy from Bella, and Charlie, Billy had slightly better hearing since everything happened. "What do you call a wolf that knows it's a wolf?"

"Um, a wolf?" I had no idea.

"Aware wolf." He smirked but I could see the serious tone hiding underneath.

"I'm Leah, your Beta. Not everyone in the tribe knows, so just be careful who you talk to about it. How are you taking all of this information?"

"Well, I feel like I stepped into a Sci Fi movie. I mean, I have no memories but I seem to have an awareness of how life is or at least how the general public sees it. Like the basic knowledge part of my brain is intact but the part that has personal memories is gone. I know math and science and how to build a car even, but no actual memories. It's the oddest thing. Like I FEEL certain things that make no sense to my brain, like you. I felt this connection, like you're important to me, but couldn't6u figure out your name or if you're friend, family, the girl on the side, no info."

I had to laugh at that, the girl on the side. "I am definitely more like a sister than anything, a best friend even. We talk about everything together. We would uh, patrol around the tribe together so we kind of got an intimate view of each other's memories. Oh! Come with me."

I grabbed Jake's hand and took him outside, getting weird looks from everyone in the house who followed us to the back yard.

"Do you know how to phase into your wolf form? Just like, really think about being a wolf, and I'd suggest doing it with only your boxers or naked because it will destroy anything you're wearing. We've all seen it before though. Everyone here because you've had to ask all of us for clothes at one point or another."

"Leah, what are you doing?" Sam asked, and Bella just looked at us with sadness and confusion on her face.

I lowered my voice so only Sam would be able to hear me talk to Jake. "What do you feel about her?"

"I… I feel like she's… my world? Does that even make sense?"

"It does. Do this for her. She needs you to phase."

He nodded.

"I have no idea why she's getting him to phase, Bella, but she's saying it's for you. He feels the pulls of the imprint. He's going to try."

"How would phasing help though?"

Jake nodded his head again, then undressed. Bella's face pinked up as she got a view of his ass and I held back a laugh. I undressed as well and phased into my wolf.

Jake's eyes went wide and he took a deep breath. After a few minutes of concentration, he did it. He phased.
