After saving, Chara and Frisk made their way deeper into Waterfall. As they did so they spotted Sans standing in a small alcove with a telescope on a stand next to him.

As they drew near, Sans said with a smile. "hey-a kiddos so, i've been thinking about getting into the telescoping business. it's normally 50000g to use this premium telescope, but since i know you guys, you can use it for free. howzabout it?"

Chara shook her head no, but Frisk happily nodded yes. While Frisk was eagerly looking through the telescope, Chara noticed Sans glaring at her with his eyes black and bottomless again. Chara scowled back, both of them staring each other down, until Frisk moved away from the telescope. Sans' eyes went back to normal, while Chara looked up towards the cavern's ceiling.

When Chara looked back at Frisk, her eyebrows raised in surprise. Frisk now had a red circle of what looked like ink around her closed left eye. A small bubble of laughter nearly rose to the surface in Chara's chest as she continued to stare at Frisk's new trait.

"Is something wrong Chara?" Frisk asked, on of her eyebrows raised.

"Nothing at all, let's just move on." Chara said, as she turned away from Frisk before she lost her composure.

Frisk led Chara into an adjacent room, where they found the monster from Snowdin Forest selling more Nice Cream at his stand. Frisk bought them a Nice Cream each and they quickly ate them while continuing through Waterfall. When Chara finished her Nice Cream it said, Is this as sweet as you? Chara half rolled her eyes and stopped to listen to Papyrus who had called Frisk on her cell phone.

Papyrus' loud voice came from the phone's speaker. "HELLO! THIS IS PAPYRUS! REMEMBER WHEN I ASKED YOU ABOUT CLOTHES? WELL, THE FRIEND WHO WANTED TO KNOW, HER OPINION OF YOU TWO IS VERY... MURDERY. BUT I BET YOU KNEW THAT ALREADY! AND BECAUSE OF THAT, I TOLD HER WHAT YOU TOLD ME YOU WERE WEARING! A TUTU AND A GOLDEN LOCKET! BECAUSE I KNEW OF COURSE, AFTER SUCH A SUSPICIOUS QUESTION, YOU WOULD BOTH OBVIOUSLY CHANGE YOUR CLOTHES!"

Chara sighed as she continued listening to Papyrus, slightly annoyed at his unintentional sabotage.

"YOU'RE SUCH A SMART COOKIE! THIS WAY YOU'RE BOTH SAFE AND I DIDN'T LIE!" Papyrus said excitedly. "NO BETRAYAL ANYWHERE! BEING FRIENDS WITH EVERYONE IS EASY!" Papyrus then hung up, leaving only the sounds of water echoing throughout Waterfall.

"You know, if he wasn't so naïve and trusting, he probably would have been able to capture us." Chara thought aloud.

Frisk giggled before walking further into Waterfall with Chara walking beside her. After sparing a pair of Moldsmal and an Aaron, they reached a mid-sized corridor, with a shallow stream on both sides of the path. As they began making their way towards the other end of the rocky corridor a large light-yellow tentacle rose out of the water on their left, followed by another on their right. Chara and Frisk continued forward, even as the tentacles followed them for a few yards. They both came to a halt as the tentacles receded and an enormous onion-shaped head emerged with two more tentacles.

The octopus-like monster had its tentacles bent to look as if it were holding its head in a sophisticated manner, with one under its chin and the other on one side of its head. They had bright, sparkling black eyes and a massive, overjoyed smile.

"Hey... there..." They said, surprising Chara with how high-pitched their voice was. "Noticed you were... here... I'm Onionsan! Onionsan, y' hear!" Onionsan lowered their tentacles back into the water while Frisk cheerfully introduced herself and Chara. Onionsan smiled pleasantly at them both, eliciting a small wave from Chara.

Chara and Frisk continued down the path, while Onionsan followed them in the water, wanting to chat more.

"You're visiting Waterfall, huh! It's great here, huh! You love it, huh!" Frisk nodded her head, while Chara responded with a soft 'Yeah.'

"Yeah! Me too! It's my BIG favorite. Even though, the water's getting so shallow here... I, have to sit down all the time, but... He-hey! That's OK! It beats moving to the city! And living in a crowded aquarium! Like all my friends did!" Chara frowned, feeling a slight twinge of empathy. "And the aquarium's full, a-anyway, so, even if I wanted to, I..." Onionsan snapped out of their gloomy talk. "That's okay though, y' hear! Undyne's going to fix everything, y' hear! I'm gonna get out of here and live in the ocean! Y' hear!"

The three of them had finally reached the end of the long room. Onionsan brought a tentacle up and held it over their forehead, pretending to shield their eyes, while looking towards the room's exit.

"Hey... there... That's the end of this room. I'll see you around! Have a good time! In Waterfallllllllllllllllllllllllllllll" Onionsan began lowering themself back beneath the water's surface, still saying waterfall even as they started gurgling the L's.

Frisk giggled to herself as she and Chara walked through the exit. As they circled around a large pit in the middle of the split path, they encountered Shryren, a shy fish-like monster. Chara hummed a tune without much thought and Frisk spared the timid monster. As they passed a stone statue that was being rained on, which Chara paid little mind to, they came across a garbage can filled with umbrellas in a variety of colors. There was also a sign nearby that read, Please take one.

Frisk pulled a faded red umbrella from the can but, instead of making her way further into the cavern, she turned around and headed back the way they came.

"Frisk, where are you going?" Chara asked as Frisk passed her, before sighing and following her back towards the statue.

When Chara reached her, Frisk was balancing the umbrella onto the statue, wedging the handle into its arms. Before Chara could say anything, a small melody began to drift through the air. It only took a couple of seconds for Chara to recognize the tune. Not only was it the tune she had hummed to Shyren, but it was also the favorite lullaby of-

"Asriel..." Chara whispered under her breath. She moved closer to the statue and saw a small hole she hadn't noticed earlier. Inside was a very familiar music box, the source of the melody. With one hand gripping her heart locket, she reached into the statue with the other and pulled out the small wooden box. As Chara stared down at the box that was no bigger than the palm of her hand, she felt a small but noticeable amount of nostalgia as well as sadness push its way through the thick blanket of LOVE in her soul. She felt something hot trailing down her cheeks. Thinking it was just Determination spilling out in response to the burst of emotions, she wiped it away but, was surprised to see that the back of her hand didn't have a black smear on it and was just wet.

Chara was startled slightly when a pair of arms wrapped themselves around her torso. Looking to her right she saw it was Frisk hugging her. Frisk's head was bowed and her forehead was resting on Chara's shoulder.

"I'm sorry Chara, I didn't want you to cry. I only wanted you to have something of Asriel's, if you wanted it."

Chara felt the warmth in Frisk's embrace seeping into her, warming her from the cool cavern air. As she stood there, she felt something stirring within her chest, something so unfamiliar to her, she couldn't describe it.

Chara placed her hand on Frisk's arm. "Thank you Frisk, I really appreciate this."

*Your LOVE has decreased!*

After a few moments, the music box stopped playing, and Frisk released Chara from her warm embrace. The strange feeling that Chara had felt in her chest slowly faded away. Chara placed the music box in her inventory before following Frisk, who had walked over to the garbage can, and taking place next to her under the umbrella she had grabbed.

A short distance into the rainy area of Waterfall, they came across Monster Kid, who was standing in a small alcove avoiding the water falling from the high up cavern ceiling.

"Yo, you guys got an umbrella? Awesome!" He said before making his way under the umbrella behind them. It was a bit crowded, but all three of them managed to fit under it. "Let's go!"

As the three of them began making their way through the rainy area, Monster Kid started gushing over how awesome Undyne was.

Chara however was lost in thought about Frisk. Why is she always so concerned about me? Or anybody for that matter. She had no problem killing everybody before, so why does she care so much now? How could she possibly care about anyone when she so easily killed so many monsters? And for what, just to bring me back to life? Even now, she's still protecting me, she's always friendly, and shows kindness whenever she can. Why? She knows nothing about me, so why? I don't understand...

Chara was brought out of her rumination by someone placing a hand on her shoulder. Following the hand to its owner, she was unsurprised to see that it was Frisk with a concerned look on her face.

"Chara, are you okay? You look angry about something."

Chara took a quick look at their surroundings. They were near the end of the rainy area of Waterfall. Frisk had placed the umbrella they were using into another garbage can that had more umbrellas in it, and Monster Kid was waiting with a goofy smile on his face at the bottom of a high ledge.

Looking back at Frisk, Chara said, "I'm fine, I just..." Chara hesitated, not knowing why. "Have a headache, that's all."

Chara looked at Frisk, but it was hard to tell if she believed her or not when her eyes were closed.

"Yo, you guys wanna see Undyne, right?" Monster Kid called to them. "Climb on my shoulders!"

Frisk gave Chara's shoulder a comforting squeeze. "Try to hang in there, Chara. The monsters aren't going to free themselves, right?" Frisk then lowered her arm and walked over to Monster Kid, using his offered shoulders to climb onto the ledge.

Yeah, they won't will they... Chara thought before following Frisk up onto the ledge.

*Chara and Frisk have been making progress, but Chara is starting to have doubts about Frisk. Despite this, you stay Determined!*
