Chara and Frisk sloshed through the water-filled cavern, following the cavern and turning left at a corner to find more piles of garbage and an archway in the wall several yards ahead. As they made their way toward the exit, eager to be on dry land again, Frisk stopped by a faded, orange cooler. Opening it she reached inside and pulled out two astronaut food bars.

Frisk held one of the bars out to Chara. "Here you go Chara, it's the perfect treat for your pet astronaut."

Chara accepted the food bar, completely bewildered by what Frisk said. Frisk just smiled at Chara before placing her own bar into her inventory. Chara felt a strange and unfamiliar sensation in her chest when she saw Frisk's smile. Deciding she was just hungry, Chara ate the food bar and followed Frisk who was now looking at an old beat-up training dummy.

As Chara rejoined her, she noticed Frisk had an anxious look on her face.

"Frisk, is everything alright?" Chara asked as she looked between Frisk and the dummy.

Frisk looked over at Chara with a now weak smile. "Everything's fine, but you may want to get ready for a fight."

Before Chara could ask what Frisk meant, she remembered the last time they had gone through the area. Looking back at the dummy, Chara understood and nodded to Frisk.

Turning away from the dummy, they started making their way to the exit but just as Chara suspected, the dummy appeared in front of them, floating and with eyebrows slanted in anger.

The dummy cackled. "Hahaha... too intimidated to fight me, huh!? I am a ghost that lives inside a DUMMY. My cousin used to live inside a DUMMY, too. Until... YOU CAME ALONG!" The dummy, lacking arms, glared directly at Chara. "YOU DESTROYED THEIR HOME!"

Chara, having realized they were talking about the dummy she had attacked back in the RUINS, felt regret poke through the LOVE in her SOUL.

"Us ghosts our whole lives looking for a proper vessel." The mad dummy continued. "Slowly, slowly, we grow closer to our bodies, until one day, we too may become corporeal beings. Beings able to laugh, love, and dance like any other..." They seemed to glare more angrily at Chara, who could feel her regret swelling in the pit of her stomach. "Whatever kind of monster you are, I hope you're not too attached to your body... because your SOUL's about to get EVICTED!"

With that declaration, the three of them began their fight. Chara immediately pressed her ACT button and selected 'talk.' "I'm sorry for ruining your cousin's home." She said, pulling what little sympathy she could from her LOVE's grip and putting it into her words.

But the Mad Dummy seemed to be ignoring her or was just too mad to listen. "I'll defeat you, then your human friend, and then I'll take their SOUL!" They shouted as they summoned mini dummies from the ground that flung balls of magic cotton at Chara and Frisk's souls. After easily dodging the cotton balls, Chara watched them continue moving upward until they slammed into the Mad Dummy.

"OWWWW, you DUMMIES!" They yelled at their mini dummies. "Watch where you're aiming your MAGIC attacks!" Realizing what they said Mad Dummy looked at Chara and Frisk. "Hey! You! Forget I said anything about MAGIC!"

As Frisk was selecting SPARE from her MERCY button, Chara watched the Mad Dummy pull a hand mirror out of their inventory and glare into it. After they put the mirror back, they turned to her with the same expression. Chara frowned back as the Mad Dummy said, "I'll use your friend's SOUL to cross the barrier!" Chara tried apologizing again but they didn't seem to be listening.

They began bobbing from side to side after being hit by more cotton balls. "I'll stand in the window of a fancy store!" Frisk spared and the Mad Dummy summoned more mini dummies from the floor as well as the walls and ceiling. Chara and Frisk managed to avoid all of the cotton balls thrown their way. Chara noticed they were both in sync with each other, preventing them from getting in each other's way as they dodged the fuzzy bullets.

Meanwhile the Mad Dummy continued excitedly talking about leaving the Underground. "THEN EVERYTHING I WANT WILL BE MINE!"

Chara had to brush the accumulated cotton off her ACT button when it was her turn. After Chara tried and failed to apologize again Frisk asked, "If you do that, will your cousin be avenged?"

Pausing for a few moments they replied, "Huh? Yeah, I guess that'll avenge my cousin." Frisk spared them again. "What was their name again...?" They as their mini dummies attacked.

Chara's frown deepened as she used her turn to say, "You don't even know their name?"

They heard her this time, turning their mad glare towards her. "Whatever. Whatever! WHATEVER!"

After Chara and Frisk dodged the next volley of cotton, Mad Dummy stopped bobbing from side to side and called for all of their mini dummies. "HEY GUYS!" Chara counted roughly two dozen dummies popped their little heads out of the surrounding surfaces. "Dummies. Dummies! DUMMIES! Remember how I said NOT to shoot at me? Well, FAILURES! YOU'RE FIRED! YOU'RE ALL BEING REPLACED!" The mini dummies stared wide-eyed at Mad Dummy, who was furiously jumping up and down, before gloomily retreating back into the walls. Chara felt sort of sorry for them as she watched them go.

"Hahaha. Hahaha! HAHAHA!" Mad Dummy laughed madly. (Author's note: no, i'm not apologizing) "Now you'll see my true power: Relying on people that aren't garbage!" Mad Dummy began bobbing side to side again and Chara could hear mechanical whirling all around them.

After Frisk spared Mad Dummy, they shouted a command. "DUMMY BOTS! MAGIC MISSILE!" Five mini dummy robots popped out of the ground between them and fired mini missiles out of their heads.

Chara pulled her SOUL around in a large circle as the missiles had locked onto it. When her SOUL returned to where it started, the missiles broke off and rocketed toward the Mad Dummy.

Chara wasn't sure what to say anymore. But without her MERCY button, she had no choice but to keep using her ACT button to talk to them. Frisk must have seen her struggling to come up with something to say because she quickly scooched over to Chara's side and whispered into her ear.

Chara looked at Frisk, who gave her a small smile. Chara couldn't help but smile back. "Alright, thanks Frisk." Chara pressed her ACT button as Frisk moved back to where she was. Chara saw that the new option was already there.

Chara nodded to Frisk who called to the Mad Dummy and pointed behind them. "Hey, is that Undyne?"

"Really!?" Mad Dummy excitedly spun around. "Sweet, violent Undyne, where?"

As soon as Mad Dummy turned around, Chara pressed the option, 'Toss Water' and quickly bent down, cupping her hands together, and gathered up as much water as she could. She then stood back up and tossed the water towards the rocky ceiling right above Mad Dummy's head.

The water began dripping onto Mad Dummy as they turned back around. With each drop they flinched and recoiled. "Wh... What the heck is this?! Ergh! Acid rain!? Oh, FORGET IT! I'm out of here!" With those final words Mad Dummy hurriedly floated towards the cavern's exit.

When her SOUL drifted back into her chest, Chara stared after Mad Dummy. It actually worked. She thought as she dried her hands on the front of her sweater.

Chara found herself in a warm hug from Frisk. Her heart skipped a beat, from the unexpected contact she assumed.

"You did it, Chara!" Frisk said excitedly. "I'm so glad you trusted me and gave my plan a chance."

Chara looked at Frisk's beaming face and could not help but give a small smile in return. "I'll admit, I didn't think it would work at first, but I couldn't think of anything else I could do. So, I'm glad I trusted you too."

Chara patted Frisk's back just before they heard a lonely voice coming from the exit. "oh, it's the human and their monster friend..." Frisk released Chara and they both turned to see Napstablook floating in Mad Dummy's place. "i wondered why my cousin was grumpier than usual..."

"Heh, sorry about that Nabstablook" Frisk said. "We tried to apologize, but they wouldn't listen."

"oh, that's okay... they just don't like opening up to strangers... not even to other monsters..." Nabstablook gave a sad, watery-eyed smile. "well... i'm going to head home now... oh... um... feel free to 'come with' if you want... but no pressure... i understand if you're busy... it's fine... no worries... just thought i'd offer..." Napstablook then floated backwards and disappeared through the exit.

Chara stared after them. What was that about? It's like they were guilting us into hanging out with them. She looked towards Frisk and saw her staring after Napstablook with a look of pity.

"You want to go with them don't you." Chara said.

It wasn't even a question, yet Frisk turned towards her and nodded. Chara's LOVE was pushing her to keep moving through the Underground. Yet she didn't want to upset Frisk by saying no. Chara didn't know why, but just thinking about seeing Frisk frown made an unpleasant feeling in her stomach.

Sighing, Chara said, "Alright, then let's not keep them waiting."

Fisk gave her another, briefer hug. "Thank you, Chara."

They both made their way to the exit and came out in a large room that had a pool of water in the center with a sparkling save point between it and them. To their left there was another pool of water that was glowing blue, and a path leading to someplace that Chara couldn't make out from where she was standing. To their right, was the path leading toward rest of Waterfall. On the other side of the pool in front of them were three separate caverns. In the cavern straight ahead, Chara could see two odd looking buildings sitting next to each other.

Napstablook was hovering over the pool in front of them and perked up when they saw them. "hey... my house is up here..." They indicated toward the middle of three doorways in the opposite wall. "in case you want to see... or in case... you don't..." They quickly disappeared from sight as they floated toward their house.

After they finished saving at the save point, Frisk led Chara to Napstablook's house on the left. Looking around, was a simple single room on the ground floor. The wooden plank floor had some holes in it, and the walls had several cracks. To their right were three cd's sitting on the floor next to a spider web that had a piece of paper stuck to it. Against the far wall was a fridge in the left corner, an old box tv, and a computer in the right corner which Napstablook, who was wearing a pair of headphones, was hovering in front of.

Napstablook turned after hearing the door shut. "oh... you really came... sorry, i... wasn't expecting that. it's not much, but make yourselves at home."

As Chara was looking around, she noticed Frisk was heading toward the fridge. Curious about what she was doing, Chara followed her.

"oh... are you guys hungry..." Napstablook said in their melancholy voice. "i can get you something to eat..." Napstablook floated over and began rummaging around in the fridge for a few moments before pulling out a couple of pure white sandwiches. "these are ghost sandwiches... do you want to try them..."

Frisk nodded her head and, after hesitating for a few seconds, Chara followed suit. Taking one of the sandwiches, Chara prepared to take a bite, but when she did, her teeth simply phased right through it, clacking together almost painfully. Chara winced and glanced over at Frisk, who had also tried eating her sandwich, but it seemed she hadn't put much force into biting hers.

Napstablook, after seeing that they couldn't eat the sandwiches, said. "oh... nevermind..." Chara and Frisk handed the sandwiches back and Napstablook put them back in the fridge. Turning back, they said. "after a great meal i like to lie on the floor and feel like garbage... it's a family tradition..." Chara was starting to feel a sliver of pity poking through the LOVE. "do you want... to join me..." They asked hesitatingly. Frisk nodded again and Chara, not wishing to upset either of them, nodded as well.

Napstablook led them to the center of the house so there was enough room for them to all stretch out. After everyone was laying on the floor with the three of their heads near each other, the last thing Napstablook told them was, "here we go... you'll lie down as long as you don't move. so... only move around when you want to get up, i guess." Then, everyone was silent, the only sounds being Chara and Frisk's breathing and Napstablook's spinning computer fan.

Not sure what she was supposed to do or how long Frisk was planning on having them lie there, Chara closed her eyes, slowed her breathing, and let her mind wander. After a few moments, or was it several minutes, she began to think about where she was. Not just where she was in the Underground, but in the world. She hadn't seen much of anything outside of the village near the base of Mt. Ebott. But she remembered on one of the days when Toriel was teaching her and Asriel about the planet they all lived on, she had invited Dr. Ģ̸̹̝͚͓̣̖͖̼̇ạ̶̳̖̀̍̅s̷̨̨̛̬̟̝̻̜̟̞̔́̈́͑͘͝͠t̸͙̜̙̖̹̗͐̈́e̷̜̊̎ͅr̷̜̞̃̿ to visit and explain more about the solar system they inhabited and the universe that surrounded it.

"You see young ones, the planet that we all live on is spinning and rotating around a massive ball of fire over 90 million miles away." He explained as they all sat at the dinner table, eagerly hanging on to every word. "To give you a good idea of how big the sun is compared to our planet allow me to draw up a comparison." The doctor's separate magic floating hands pulled the bag he had brought with him up onto the table and opened it. Dr. Ģ̸̹̝͚͓̣̖͖̼̇ạ̶̳̖̀̍̅s̷̨̨̛̬̟̝̻̜̟̞̔́̈́͑͘͝͠t̸͙̜̙̖̹̗͐̈́e̷̜̊̎ͅr̷̜̞̃̿ then reached in and pulled out a handheld marker board and a dry erase marker. Chara and Asriel watched as he drew a large circle, as big as he could make it on the handheld board. "Now this is the sun, and this..." he placed a single dot in the middle of the circle. "Is our planet."

Chara and Asriel couldn't help but stare wide-eyed at the small speck that sat in the middle of the circle.

"Wow, the sun is so huge!" Asriel said, barely containing his excitement. "Can you believe it Chara?"

Chara shook her head before looking up at the Royal Scientist. "The sun is really that big?"

Dr. Ģ̸̹̝͚͓̣̖͖̼̇ạ̶̳̖̀̍̅s̷̨̨̛̬̟̝̻̜̟̞̔́̈́͑͘͝͠t̸͙̜̙̖̹̗͐̈́e̷̜̊̎ͅr̷̜̞̃̿ nodded with a smile. "It is and our planet isn't the only one, there are other planets of various sizes and distances that are rotating around the sun just like ours is. However, all of them are so far away, you would be unable to see them without a very strong telescope."

Chara looked back down at the comparison drawing, as she tried to grasp the enormity of it.

"Princess Chara, you are from the surface, so you've seen the stars that dot the night sky, correct?" Chara nodded. "Yes Mr. Ģ̸̹̝͚͓̣̖͖̼̇ạ̶̳̖̀̍̅s̷̨̨̛̬̟̝̻̜̟̞̔́̈́͑͘͝͠t̸͙̜̙̖̹̗͐̈́e̷̜̊̎ͅr̷̜̞̃̿, I've seen hundreds of them." Ģ̸̹̝͚͓̣̖͖̼̇ạ̶̳̖̀̍̅s̷̨̨̛̬̟̝̻̜̟̞̔́̈́͑͘͝͠t̸͙̜̙̖̹̗͐̈́e̷̜̊̎ͅr̷̜̞̃̿ smiled. "Well, what if I told you that our sun is also a star just like them? Some are very similar to ours and some are different but are still stars regardless. All of them are just so far away that we can only perceive them as bright dot at night."

As what he said sank in Asriel raised his small furry hand. "Yes Prince Asriel?" Ģ̸̹̝͚͓̣̖͖̼̇ạ̶̳̖̀̍̅s̷̨̨̛̬̟̝̻̜̟̞̔́̈́͑͘͝͠t̸͙̜̙̖̹̗͐̈́e̷̜̊̎ͅr̷̜̞̃̿ said. "Do you have a question?"

Putting his hand down, Asriel asked. "So how far away is the closest star?"

"Ah, a good question. If you were to travel to the nearest star at roughly 40,000 miles per hour, it would take you about 73,000 years to reach it."

Chara brain was reeling, her young mind unable to comprehend the information it was receiving.

Asriel frowned. "That's too far away, it would take forever."

Ģ̸̹̝͚͓̣̖͖̼̇ạ̶̳̖̀̍̅s̷̨̨̛̬̟̝̻̜̟̞̔́̈́͑͘͝͠t̸͙̜̙̖̹̗͐̈́e̷̜̊̎ͅr̷̜̞̃̿ gave a warm smile. "You are right, it would take forever, and yet there are stars and planets that are even further away than that. And that's just what we are able to see from our place here on this planet." Chara and Asriel stared in awe at the scientist. "You see children, our planet, our sun, our very own solar system, is just one in a void that has countless other planets, suns, and solar systems."

"Wow!" Asriel exclaimed, his short tuft of a tail wagging excitedly. "Space is so cool!"

Chara, while not really able to understand it all, smiled, happy to see her adoptive brother so excited and enthusiastic for what they had learned about the universe they inhabited.

Back then, Chara couldn't fully understand just how big the universe really was. But now, as she laid there on the wooden floor reminiscing, she could almost feel herself floating through the vastness of space beyond the Underground and beyond the night sky. She understood how impossibly big the universe is, and she could feel just how small she was in comparison. Yet despite that, she knew that even if nothing they did here or on the surface would change anything out in the universe, it did matter to the people and monsters they've met, to those around them. And with that thought in mind, she knew for certain that freeing everyone was the right thing to do and that it was the reason she was here.

Chara opened her eyes and stared at the black and white box that now floated a few feet over her head.
