Chapter 26
A Bloody New Year Part 2
BELLA POV
It was pitch black as I opened my eyes. My head was throbbing and I had what felt like a bump on the back of my head. I felt dizzy and nauseous at the moment. I was laying on some cot-like thing that had a blanket and a pillow. It was very uncomfortable but I guess it was better than the floor. I couldn't see anything and I was afraid to move not knowing what my surroundings were. I also didn't trust myself to move much at the moment just in case I did fall.
I tried to remember what happened before. I went to my doctor's appointment where Dr. Lopez gave me a clean bill of health. You could hardly tell that I had surgery. I went to the store and picked up stuff to make Mushroom Ravioli which had become Edward's favorite. I had been bitchy towards him all day and was going to make up for it. We left and then I remember Zafrina yelling at me to duck down in the seat. She was driving fast and calling people. We pulled off the main road and I remember three SUVs pulling up. She called Laurent before she got out of the driver's seat and I climbed in the back to hide.
I remember her shooting at someone. She kept telling me to run. I ran or I tried to run but was quickly caught by one of Black's men. That's when I saw him as he walked towards us. I remember…Oh, God! I started breathing hard. Zafrina! He fucking shot Zafrina! Is she dead? He shot her! Fucking Jacob! Holy shit that motherfucking son of a bitch!
I screamed as one of his goons carried me back to the car. I saw Zafrina moving on the ground as Jacob walked back to join me before she went still. Was she dead? The nausea came full force then and I leaned my head towards the floor and threw up. When it was finally all out I felt a little bit better. I rubbed my belly, hoping everything was okay. My stomach didn't hurt and I didn't feel any wetness when I touched my pants. "You okay in there?" I whispered to the baby. I wish I was far enough along to feel it kick or something to reassure me. On the other hand, I was also glad I wasn't far along in the pregnancy. I didn't know what Jacob would do if he knew I was expecting. I didn't want him to do anything to harm the baby. I would try my best to not draw attention to my stomach while I was here.
I had to be strong until Edward came. I knew my husband was going to find me. He knew I had been taken by Jacob. He had called him from my phone while we were in the car. I didn't know what Jacob had planned but I screamed at Edward I loved him and he yelled it back. I felt like he had to know in case something happened to me. Jacob didn't like my declaration of love because after he smacked me in the face and then I remembered seeing black. That fucker knocked me out which explains the throbbing bump on my head.
Suddenly I turned to a loud noise and the door opened and the light switch came on. It was so bright I had to close my eyes. They didn't have to be open to know who came in. He still smelt the same as he did months ago. He smelt like his cologne which seemed to assault my nose and make me gag. I blinked and slowly opened my eyes. I had to squint a few times before my eyes fully adjusted to the light.
When they finally focused, they zeroed in on that piece of shit. After all these months I was face to face with my tormentor. He stared at me with a smug gaze. I just looked at him angrily in return. I would not back down from this man. The bastard continued to smile at me and I just looked back at him in return. I knew what he was doing, he was trying to make me cower like I always would in the past.
"Did we have an accident?" I knew he was talking about the vomit but I would not look away from him. I would not show any weakness. He smiled that smile, the one that would have other women dropping their panties. Not me though, definitely not me. He walked towards me and I tried my best not to shrink back or move.
"I'll have someone clean that up," he said as I ignored him. He didn't like that and he came at me fast. I cringed and I hated myself for it. He smiled knowing he got to me. He touched my face with his hand and I tried my best not to shudder. His hands felt slimy, nothing compared to Edward's.
"You have caused me a lot of trouble, Isabella," he said as he jerkily removed his hand from my face. He walked away from me with his hands behind his back. He quickly turned back and smiled the evil smile. "I'll forgive you if you say I'm sorry."
I stared at him. "Sorry for what?"
His smile disappeared and he quickly made his way towards me. "You stupid little bitch! Do you know how many men I have lost? Do you know what you did to me when you ran away? You were supposed to marry me! The Feds are now involved! I've had to find other places to live." He turned to look at me. "Apologize now and I'll forgive you."
I smiled at him. It made me happy to know he had suffered. "No," I said as loud as I could.
"No? Are you serious? No?" He came at me and slapped me. My head whipped to the side and I turned back to him as I tasted blood. I spit it out of my mouth, never moving my eyes from his.
"NOW APOLOGIZE!" He was in my face now, our noses touching.
"No," I said again.
He went to hit me again but the door opened and some big man stepped in. "Boss," he said calmly.
Jacob sneered at the big man, "what, Quil?"
"He's here Boss." Jacob turned away from me to give the guy, Quil, his attention.
"Very well." The guy Quil turned to leave but not before I stole a glance in his direction. He looked at me with concern before turning to walk away.
Jacob's hands came to touch my face and I tried not to shudder at his touch. "I'll have someone take you to our chambers," he said as he rose up and made his way to the door. "I'll also have someone help get you ready."
"Ready?" I asked. "Where am I going?" I was so confused.
"We will be married tonight." I blanched. How the fuck did he think we were going to be married when I already was?
"I'm already married," I simply stated.
He came rushing towards me. He grabbed my hair and pulled it hard and slapped the shit out of me. "Listen closely, you will be Mrs. Black before the end of the night. Even if I have someone to go to Seattle and make you a widow!" He let go of my hair harshly and went to leave the room slamming the door in the process.
I grabbed my head. If it wasn't throbbing before it most definitely was now. I was really stupid, I told myself not to do anything that would cause harm to my baby and I did. I could have just said sorry and been done with it. I just couldn't give him the satisfaction of me saying that. It was always a game with him trying to control me. Edward couldn't have been more right all those months ago, Jacob didn't own me. Jacob hadn't knocked me down to nothing. I would just have to play it more safely. I would go along with whatever Jacob had planned at the moment.
I knew Edward would be looking for me and I hoped he had been right all those months ago when he said the Black Family was small and nothing. I was also a realist and it may take him awhile if the Feds were still looking. I took in my surroundings, just in case Edward didn't get here in time. I needed to know if I had a way out of here. The room I was in looked like a storage room. I was indeed on a cot, with a thin sheet attached to it and a dirty blanket. The room was very small and there was a sink in the back along with an old mop and broom. I noticed a small window that was high up. I was beginning to think I was in a basement or cellar. I went to get off the cot and walk towards it just to see if I could see anything. I avoided my vomit that was on the floor and reached halfway across the room when I felt something tugging at my foot. I looked back and I realized I was chained to the wall. How had I not noticed?
Well shit.
EDWARD POV
Earlier…
I paced the length of my office, my mind running in all different directions. I was currently waiting on Jasper to see if he could get any information. Em was on the phone with Louie who was currently laying low near La Push. James was also loading up some guns and putting them in a bag. He knew we were about to go to war. I downed the scotch in my hand and turned to pace a different part of my office.
After we cleaned up the scene at the Lake and loaded Zafrina's body up, we headed to my house. Emmett had made the call to Senna to let her know about Zafrina's death. Of course, all Senna knew was that Zafrina had died protecting Bella. I had a friend at the funeral home who would keep her body for now so she could have a proper burial in a few days. I also had Caius, Seth, Laurent, and Benjamin outside patrolling my house. I really didn't want Seth involved but for some reason it felt important for him to be here. Tyler hadn't made it to the beach in time so I had him turn around and head back to the warehouse. After I declared Code Red, every family member in The Families was put on lockdown. This meant The Denali's, The Masen's, The Irish, and of course The Cullen's were on alert. Code Red meant that the Boss or Boss's wife or children had been taken or was missing. I knew my mother had called but she knew better. I needed my line free just in case so I didn't take her call. However, my father called Em and was told it was Bella who was missing.
I hoped Bella was okay. Knowing Black needed her helped me in some way as sick as it sounds. He wouldn't kill her for that reason, so it helped me to know she was alive. I wanted to invade Forks or La Push. I wanted to go in guns a blazing but I had to do this the smart way.
I threw my glass across the room making Jasper jump. Em and James, who were used to my antics, just looked at me.
"Damn it, Ed!" Jasper screeched like a girl.
I rolled my eyes at him as Emmett finally ended his call. "Louie says that there's not a lot of men in Forks. They're all near the La Push entrance, he thinks they're waiting for us."
"So that confirms Black is in LaPush," I said, which I figured. Black was either stupid or smart staying in his town.
"Why don't we go in guns blazing like we did in Russia?" Emmett asked. "We had less men then than we do now. That's an advantage."
Was Em stupid? "We also had another Family with us and there were no hostages," I said as I rolled my eyes.
"Technically, there were hostages, Ed," Emmett added.
I wanted to smack the shit out of him. This was not like Russia. "The whole situation is different, Emmett, they didn't know we were coming to Russia. Black is definitely expecting me. We didn't know about the hostages then, but It worked out for us. This time we know they have Bella and our chi-" I couldn't finish my sentence. My stomach rolled knowing my wife had been taken but also my child. "They also have Seth's sister that we know of," I finished. We weren't 100% sure if she was still alive or dead.
Emmett nodded. I think he was worried about Bella as well. I think we all were but it wouldn't help any of us if we didn't have a plan. It also questioned Emmett's ability to lead if something happened to me.
"So, the last ping Bella's phone gave off was near Tacoma and it went dead hours ago," Jasper said as his fingers typed, breaking the silence.
"Which means he either destroyed the phone or threw it somewhere," I said. It was a long shot thinking I could track Bella with her phone but I wanted to cover my bases.
I sat down in my desk chair and began to pull my hair out. I needed to know if she was alright. I didn't like this at all. I was about to go with Emmett's plan and go in guns a blazing until Seth knocked on my office door.
"Boss?" he said quietly.
"Yeah?"
"So I have an insider working with me who is one of Jacob's guards." I looked at him in shock. How did I forget all those months ago Seth told us in this very room about his contact. I quickly got up. "I can't contact him in case Black finds out. So, I have to wait for him to contact me. He just sent me a text a moment ago."
"What did it say?" I clenched my fists and made my way to Seth.
"Beach. New. Swan. B and L alive," Seth said. I tried to decipher the code. I had heard rumors of Black's paranoia but to witness it. Seth's insider must have been speaking in code in case he was being watched.
"Beach is their location," I said aloud to the room. Everyone nodded agreeing and we had confirmation from Louie where his men had been sighted at the entrance of La Push. So we knew they were either on the beach or near it in La Push.
"B and L alive must mean Bella and Leah alive," Emmett said. Seth nodded, blowing out a breath. I knew he was worried about his sister's current status.
"Swan would have to refer to Bella's dad. That must mean he's there," James said. I cringed. I had a feeling after Swan emptied out his bank account and not returning home that it was possible he was with Black.
"New?" Emmett said as he looked around the room. None of us had a clue. What could new mean?
Jasper then brought up the Beach map of LaPush. "Which area of the beach do you think they are in?" He pointed to his computer, I looked at it. "It would be better to know where they could possibly be and where we should go in at," Jasper finished.
"We?" I said, giving him my eyebrow.
"You're going to need someone to run technical." I nodded. He was right. I most definitely was. I looked at Seth, who looked like hell had taken over.
"Any idea where they could be?" I needed to get to Bella fast. It had already been hours since she had been taken.
"If only we knew someone who could possibly tell us where Black is," James gave me a knowing look.
"If only," I smirked.
****BID*****
James, Em, Laurent, Benjamin, Jasper, and I pulled up to the warehouse. I had made Seth and Caius go on ahead to La Push. I told them to stay on alert and rendezvous with Louie who was in a hotel room outside the La Push area making bombs. James knocked on the big heavy door a few times before Mal stuck his head out. We entered silently, Eric was typing on a computer and Tyler was standing guard at the entrance to the room I needed to go into.
I made my way to Tyler. "Boss," he nodded.
"He awake?" I asked. Tyler nodded and moved aside. "I believe so, Boss. He's quiet as a mouse right now." I entered the room alone while the rest of my men stood outside the door.
Alec sat in a chair looking at the wall. I had noticed his hair was unkempt and a beard was slowly beginning to grow. I took the other chair in the room and sat in it across from Alec, who had not acknowledged I was here.
"Alec," I said as he turned towards me but still remained quiet. I had my hands in my lap and I wanted to strangle Alec because I had a feeling he was going to be difficult. I stared at him as he looked at me, "My wife was taken by Black earlier this evening," I said. I was reminded again that I had failed to keep her safe.
Alec looked at me with a questionable glance. I think he was unsure if I was telling the truth. He didn't say anything and I felt my hands ball up into fists. "We have information that he may be on the beach somewhere."
Alec leaned back in his chair and put his hands across his chest. "And you believe I may know where?" he said as he looked at the wall behind me.
I wanted to smack the shit out of him. We didn't have time for his games. I hated it when his father or brother played it. The Volturi would always be beating around the bush instead of getting to the point.
"You were running drugs through that area, were you not?" Alec nodded.
"Can I ask a question?" he said and I swear I flinched. I did not have time for this. I nodded, unable to trust my voice at the moment. "My sister and Marcus, have you heard anything about them at all?" he asked wistfully. It was probably the first time I had seen him show emotion tonight.
"I have not," I said in all honesty. I had forgotten about the two. I needed Jasper to look into them and see but at the moment I needed to find my wife.
"It's possible they could be alive but…," I didn't want to give him false hope.
Alec sighed and I think he was trying to fight back the tears. "The only place on the beach that I know of that he personally owned was the shack. He also had his father's house, a trailer that he kept the guns at, and an apartment in Forks. That was months ago, Cullen, he could be anywhere," Alec finished, looking uninterested and bored.
I thought over each of those places in my head. His father's house had been on the Fed spotlight so I knew he wasn't there. The shack wasn't big enough to hold Bella and the guards without looking suspicious. I'm guessing the trailer is where Leah used to live. I didn't know about the apartment but it was irrelevant since we had confirmation he was in La Push.
Alec's head shot up. "I do remember him talking about a property that was secluded that he was wanting to buy." I nodded for him to go on. " It was an unusual house to be honest. It had recently been built and it stood out from the other houses along the beach." He took a breath and then started talking again. "It looked like a mansion if I'm honest. Had its own private driveway and was somewhat gated. He wanted it, but couldn't afford it. I thought that odd since he had been running drugs and was dipping into trafficking," Alec finished.
"New," I said and I quickly rose up from the chair finally realizing what new meant. I looked back at Alec. "Thank you and I will look into Jane and Marcus." Alec nodded and went back to looking at the wall.
I closed the door to the room he was in and quickly made it to Jasper. All my guys stood up looking at me waiting for me to say something. "Check new properties on the beach, secluded, and with a gate." Jasper went to clicking. I felt dumb. It was so obvious that Jacob would be in the biggest house on the beach. He was all show and no bark. It should have been obvious from the beginning.
"Found it," Jasper said as he turned the laptop around so that I could see it. The house was made of glass pretty much from what could be seen. There was a gate along the road but from the beach side looked to be our best advantage of getting in.
I looked at James. "Call the pilot and tell him we're on our way. Make sure we have a car waiting when we get off the plane." James nodded as he pulled out his phone. There was a private airstrip about an hour outside of LaPush. I didn't want to wait that long but it was better than driving the five hours there.
I looked at Emmett. "Call Dr. Stevens and tell her someone will come get her and bring her to the airstrip to meet us." He nodded. I needed the Doc with us just in case anything happened. "Then call Alistair and tell him to be on standby." I really hoped he wouldn't be needed but you never know in situations like this.
I looked at Eric and Mal. "You two stay here and keep an eye on Alec and notify me of anything suspicious." I didn't think anything would happen since Black was confirmed to be in LaPush.
"Dr. Stevens is enroute to the airstrip."Em told me as he put his phone back in his pocket.I nodded. "Call Seth and Caius and tell them what's going on." Since the two were driving, we would probably end up beating them there. We then headed to Em's jeep where we would be off to the airstrip.
"I'm coming baby, I'm coming."
BELLA POV
The creaky door opened and some burly man came in with a woman. My eyes didn't leave her face. She looked down to the floor, never looking at me. I knew it was Leah I could tell from the hair and eyes. Her face however was unrecognizable as it was covered with bruises. She then started cleaning my vomit and I wanted to tell her to stop. Not knowing who the man was I kept quiet.
"Ms.?" he asked as he unshackled me from the chains holding me to the wall. I rose from the cot slowly and boy was I was stiff from sitting so long, even my joints popped. Leah never looked at me as I passed. I was glad she was still alive though. That made me happy to know. The man I was with shut the door behind me and we came out in a small hallway. We walked a short ways down until we came to a staircase. I took a few at a time worried about losing my balance since they were so narrow. The man never spoke to me at all as we made our way up. When we arrived on the next floor he showed me to a bedroom. My anxiety rose as well as my heart started beating in my chest. I started to get scared but pushed it down so this man couldn't see.
After entering the bedroom and turning around, I was face to face with the man. I had never seen him before but something about his eyes was kind. He was Jacob's man though and I would keep my guard up.
"Mrs. Cullen," he whispered.
I blanched. Why would one of Jacob's men call me that? I was quiet but looked at him puzzled.
"We have mutual friends," he said, nodding his head. "Help is on the way." I looked at him puzzled and then my eyes widened in realization. Seth had a friend here. I had forgotten all about that time at Carmen's. He said he had someone who looks out for Leah and feeds him information. This was the man. We stared at each other until the door opened. He then spoke louder. "Ms. Clearwater will come and help you get ready. Please be presentable for Mr. Black," he said as he walked out leaving me shocked but I quickly masked my face.
The person that entered the room brought a tray of what looked like bread and water. I wouldn't touch it though, knowing it probably had been laced with something. I remember the last time I ate something he had given me. I shuddered thinking about it, but was happy to know that it wasn't on my body anymore. The person left and in came someone behind him. I tried to maintain my composure but it was a bit impossible. Standing before me was my father.
We both stared at each other. His face looked tired and his eyes looked swollen, like he had been hit or had an allergic reaction to something. He looked at me in disdain. He always did but this time he looked like he wanted to kill me. Why? What had I done to deserve this from him?
"Isabella," he said curtly.
'Father."
He huffed like he didn't believe it. "The trouble you have caused me," he started shaking his head.
"Trouble?" I said.
"If you had done what I told you to do in the first place, none of this would have happened." He started pacing the room.
"If you had done your duty like a father should, none of this would have happened," I yelled right back. He came at me with his hand raised like he was going to slap me but hesitated.
"Do not talk to me in that tone, Isabella." His voice was full of venom. He slowly walked around the room with his fists at his side. I hadn't really looked at the room but now that I had a minute I had been placed in a bedroom. It was modest for its size and probably had a joint bathroom.
My eyes landed back on Charlie who seemed to look calmer.
"Daddy, why are you doing this?" I pleaded. "What did I do for you to hate me so much?"
"Do not call me that!" he yelled as his face went red again. This man in front of me was not the sweet, loving man that raised me. Since mother had died, he had become angry and I have had to endure his anger since I was 18.
"Why? You don't want to feel bad for what you're doing?" I said right back to him. "What does he have on you?"
Charlie's face changed colors from purple to red to normal in a matter of seconds it seemed.
"Why would I feel bad for anything that happens to a bastard?" he said smugly and I swear I saw a lot of tension leave his shoulders.
"Bastard?" I replied with a whisper. "What are you talking about?" I was confused, my parents were married weren't they?
He didn't reply because the door opened and Leah came in with Jacob. Charlie quickly made his exit and I was still confused by what had just occurred. However, I would try to stay strong since now I was face to face with Jacob Black.
He had a white dress in hand which he quickly shoved at me. "Put that on," he said quickly. "Leah will do your hair and makeup." He then turned to Leah who was looking down at the floor. "If her hair doesn't look like I told you or her make-up isn't flawless there will be consequences. Do you understand me?" She quickly nodded and passed me going to the bathroom.
Jacob then put his hands on my shoulders. "I can't wait until later." He leaned in close with his mouth, a few inches from my ear. "I'm going to fuck you all night long." My eyes widened. Like hell he would! I know the object right now was to protect my child but I'll be damned if I let him rape me. I would fight tooth and nail before I let that happen. He walked away from me before he turned back around. "Don't keep me waiting too long, the ceremony will start soon." He then opened the door and walked out of the room. Ceremony? What the hell? I looked at the dress again, oh yeah the wedding. How had I forgotten he wanted that to happen tonight. Why was he in such a hurry? He had to know Edward was coming. That must be it, I remembered the conversation we had that morning that Rose and Emmett came over for brunch. None of his men saw him as a true leader because he wasn't married. Well, I was already married so I didn't know how he was going to pull this off.
"Ms. Bella, please come quickly," Leah said in a quiet voice. That was another thing, I didn't want her to get hurt either so I would let her do what she had to do but I'll be damned if I let tonight happen.
