Return From the Dark World
A mysterious dark figure was standing alone in the shadows of an equally dark cave underground. "Those key keepers keep defeating my Shadow Riders." The figure mused in his old man voice. "And still only two of the spirit gates are unlocked."
"It would seem your pets were as incompetent as they were weak." Another voice said. It belonged to a figure who walked out from the wall, or rather the shadows on it. It was hard to discern their features since they were wearing a cloak with the hood over their head. But based on their deep voice, one could at least tell that he was a man. "I don't see why you would call them Shadow Riders when they couldn't defeat a bunch of brats."
"And I don't see why you wouldn't go and deal with them yourself."
"Because I was waiting for your permission. I didn't know I could leave whenever I wanted." The cloaked figure remarked.
"Watch your tongue. Remember, I was the one who brought you out of the Shadow Realm after your defeat." The old man reminded him.
The man scoffed. "I could have gotten myself out of there myself eventually. I only accepted your aid to get out earlier. I may have agreed to help you with your quest for the Sacred Beasts, but that doesn't make me your slave. Once my job is done, I'll leave you to do whatever you want."
"Fine. Just make sure to bring me the remaining spirit keys."
"Don't worry, I'll give you all the keys you want... after I've finished my own business, that is." The cloaked man turned around and disappeared in the same manner as he arrived.
In the Academy's main building, more specifically, in Banner's classroom, everyone listened to his lecture about archtypes. Among the Slifer Red students, the new student, Nathan Aichi, listened to him all too well. Which more that one could say about a certain Slifer trio. After getting back to Duel Academy, Jaden and Nathan told everyone everything that happened. When the Admiral threw Jaden into a prison cell. When Nathan helped him to escape and duel the crazy sailor, etc. After the explanation, Sheppard decided to let Nathan stay here as the student. Thus, he became a Slifer Red student because of the school rules. His jacket was unzipped, revealing his surfer t-shirt.
"As you know, there are many archetypes that can encompass more than one type of monster." Banner spoke. "But, on the other hand, some remain more limited. For example, you could have an archetype made entirely of fiends. Now, could anybody name me one such series of monsters?" A few students raised their hands in the air. The Slifer headmaster looked over his students, and settled his gaze on a sleeping Slifer. "Jaden?"
Syrus, who sat right next to his brown-haired friend, poked him in the side hard enough to wake him up. "What...?" He asked sleepily until he turned to Syrus, who pointed to Professor Banner, who gave him an expectant look. "I'm sorry?"
"Would you be so kind and name an archetype that consists entirely of fiend type monsters?"
"Ummm... Oh, Archfiends!" He answered.
"Can you explain a little more about them?"
"Those monsters have special abilities that activate when they're targeted by an effect. They choose a random number between 1 and 6. And if it's the right one, the effect is negated and the card's destroyed. Also, you have to pay life points to keep them on the field, unless you have the field spell, Pandemonium."
"That is correct." Banner nodded. "Who could name us another?" He looked over his students again, until his eyes landed on a Ra Yellow student. "Andrew?"
The boy in question thought for a moment until something came to his mind. "Dark World monsters?"
"Yes, and how does that kind of deck function?"
"It focuses on sending cards from a player's hand to the graveyard in order to activate their effects. Some of them even have effects that can activate when they're discarded by an opponent's effect."
"Yes, that is correct."
From her own seat, Jenny shuddered at the mention of the Dark World archetype. Something that didn't go unnoticed for Alexis, or Clover.
Later on, after classes, many of the students headed to their dorms. And that included Alexis, Jenny and Clover.
"Hey, Jenny?" Alexis spoke up.
"Yeah?" The fairy duelist turned to her.
"I was wondering. Is something bothering you?"
"What makes you say that?"
"I was wondering the same thing." Clover added. "During Professor Banner's lecture, you looked like you had a chill or something."
"Exactly. That's why I'm asking you." Alexis replied.
Jenny didn't say anything for a while. But she eventually took a breath and spoke. "It's the Dark World cards that were mentioned. They reminded me of that night at the abandoned dorm."
"What are you talking about?" Clover asked curiously.
"It happened way before you and Xander came to this school. Some scary looking guy kidnapped me and forced Andrew to duel him. He used a Dark World deck. And worst of all, he had the power to make that duel a Shadow Game."
The redhead widened her eyes. "For real? Damn! I didn't know Andrew had been forced into a Shadow Game before this whole Shadow Rider thing."
"Can you imagine what it felt like for me and him? Andrew suffered a lot of damage from that duel, and I lost most of my body whenever he lost life points. I'm telling you, that shadow duelist was very strong." Jenny clenched her fists at the memories of that night.
"But from what you told me, he's been sent to the Shadow Realm." Alexis reminded her. "So there's no reason to worry about him."
The fairy duelist calmed down and nodded to her. "You're right. But, after that incident, and all the Shadow Riders we faced so far, I can't help but wonder what comes next."
Her friends couldn't agree more.
Later that night, Jenny was sitting alone in her dorm room, rearranging her deck. After all, with the possibility of the Shadow Riders make a move again, It would be good to be prepared. As she sorted her cards, her eyes landed on one in particular. "Tethys, Goddess of Light." She stared at the fairy type monster thoughtfully. "I still haven't forgotten when she arrived so suddenly at those ruins of the Gravekeepers." She then remembered something. "Wait a minute..."
Flashback
"Well, believe it or not, but my Phantom Magician happens to be my duel spirit. Usually, I'm the only one who can see him, unless someone else is able to see duel spirits."
Flashback end
'Andrew said his monster appeared because it was a duel spirit. Then... does that mean my Tethys is the same? Is she a duel spirit too?" Her musings were interrupted when the angel in the picture smiled at her. "What!?" Jenny rubbed her eyes before looking at her card again. It looked the same as usual. "Did she just..." And once again, her musings were interrupted. But this time, it was her PDA beeping. She picked it up and read the message shown to her.
Emergency!
All key keepers come to the main entrance immediately!
Michael.
"No way!" Jenny gasped before she quickly gathered her cards and left her room.
Not too long after, everyone were seen running towards to main building. Jaden, Chazz, Syrus, Chumley and Xander came from one direction. Andrew and Shiori came from another one. And Jenny showed up as well, along with Alexis and Clover. Once they arrived the main entrance, they found Michael, Zane, Crowler,, Banner and Bastion waiting for them. Michael!" Andrew called to him.
"What's the emergency?" Chazz asked.
"This..." Michael said and pointed to one of the statues. They all looked there and saw an Obelisk Blue boy laying on the ground with bruises all over his body.
"What the hell?" Clover muttered.
"Who would have done this?" Xander wondered.
"Did someone beat him up?" Shiori asked.
"Not just that. Observe." Bastion reached out for the unconscious student. But before his hand could reach the body, it suddenly blocked by some kind of barrier of purple energy. "For some reason, this barrier keeps us from touching him. And that's not all..." He held up his spirit key. "Our keys are reacting to this."
The other remaining key keepers felt their own keys, and they were shaking gently. And at the same time, Jaden's amulet was glowing a little, and so did Andrew's armlet. "If our keys are acting like this. then that means..." Jaden trailed off.
"A Shadow Rider is here." Andrew filled in.
And what happened next was really bizarre. The unconscious boy's body glowed purple as he lifted his right arm and pointed out towards a path that went into the forest.
"Okay, that's just creepy." Chumley commented.
"Indeed." Banner agreed. "But we probably don't have a choice but to follow this."
They all nodded at this and followed in the direction the boy was pointing at. They walked along for a while, finding the darkness in the forest unsettling. After about a minute, they found another unconscious student laying on the ground. This time, a Ra Yellow student. As they approached him, his body glowed in the same manner as the boy they found earlier, and his right arm pointed down the path.
"This is just getting creepier." Syrus muttered.
Regardless of this, they continued walking. And on the way, the found more unconscious students pointing at a particular direction. This went on for a while until they found themselves in a clearing.
"There's nothing here." Alexis noted.
Jaden scratched his head in confusion. "So... is someone pulling our legs or something?"
"Not really." A new voice spoke up, surprising everyone.
"Who's there? Show yourself!" Michael demanded.
"As you wish." A figure stepped out from behind a tree and stood about ten feet away from the group. Whoever this was, they were wearing a hooded cloak.
Andrew narrowed his eyes and stepped forward. "Who are you?"
"Oh? Don't you recognize me?" The figure asked.
Andrew and Jenny gasped, apparently recognizing the figure's voice. "No way..." The latter muttered.
"Are you...?" Andrew asked.
"Hehehe! So you figured it, huh? That's right! It's me!" The strangers grabbed his cloak and tossed it aside, revealing everyone his true form. He was a white-haired man, wearing dark purple armor with a three-eyes skull emblem on his chest plate. On his right hand, he was wearing a black glove with a strange insignia inscribe on it. But everyone was mostly focused on his face, which was purple with scales. His smirking mouth revealed some fangs, and his eyes were yellow, looking they belonged to a snake. "It's been a while, hasn't it?"
"Who on earth is this?" Crowler asked, very unsettled by the appearance of the demon-like person.
"You may call me Kang. " He answered.
"He's a shadow duelist who kidnapped Jenny in the abandoned dorm." Andrew explained. "After I defeated him in a duel, he was swallowed up by the Shadow Realm."
"But it looks like he found his way back." Jenny added. "Did you lure us here to get our spirit keys?"
"That's right. I joined the Shadow Riders and agreed to help them unleash the three Sacred Beasts. Not that I owe them for getting me out of the Shadow Realm. I simply accepted their offer so I could have my revenge. Besides..." He grinned wickedly. "If the legend of those cards are true, then it would be delightful to throw the entire world into chaos. So then..." He then pointed to Andrew. "How about you and I have a rematch, little brat?"
Andrew glared at him and was about to accept the challenge, but Jenny stepped up and held an arm out for him to stay back. "I'll handle him."
"Are you sure?" Andrew asked with a slight concern in his voice.
"More than I've ever been." She said, a determined expression on her face which was reflected in the tone in her voice.
Andrew stared at her for a moment before nodding. "Okay then. Good luck."
Jenny walked up to the man and stood with her duel disk ready. "Are you ready or what?"
"Whatever. All of you will fall, no matter the order." The left arm part of his armor extended to form a duel disk complete with a deck, while Jenny activated her own.
"LET'S DUEL!"
Jenny: 4000
Kang: 4000
"I'll go first." Kang declared and drew his sixth card. "And I'll start by summoning Scarr, Scout of Dark World." A fiendish, green-eyed creature in red armor rose up in front of him. Its face had jagged edges where its cheeks were and was clad in armor as well. It also had a whip-like tail. (ATK 500 DEF: 500 LV: 2) "Then I'll end my turn with a facedown." A card appeared at his feet.
"That's all?" Chazz scoffed. "I've seen better."
"Don't underestimate him!" Andrew replied firmly. "I dueled him myself, and he's really good."
Jenny narrowed her eyes. 'Which means he's up to something. I need to be careful.' She then drew. "My turn! And I play the spell card Photon Lead! This lets me summon a level 4 or below light monster from my hand. And I choose Power Angel Valkyria!" An purple-haired woman with wings wearing white and feathery armor with green jewels appeared. She was wielding a spear and shield that were made of the same material as her armor. (ATK: 1800 DEF: 1050 LV: 4) "And next I summon Barrier Stature of the Heavens!" From a flash of light, the goddess looking statue appeared next to the armored woman. (ATK: 1000 DEF: 1000 LV: 4) "Now attack his Scout!" The statue created a magic circle and fired an energy beam, burning the armored fiend to ashes.
"You triggered Scarr's special ability. When it's destroyed in battle, I can take a Dark World monster that's level 4 or less and add it from my deck to my hand." Kang to a card from his deck and placed it in his hand.
"Oh yeah? But I still haven't attacked with Power Angel Valkyria! Now go!" The armored angel flew forward.
"I reveal my facedown card!" Kang declared and pointed at the card in question. But it didn't flip up. "What the-AGH!" Before he could question this, he was stabbed by Jenny's spear wielding monster.
Kang: 4000-2200
Kang clenched his stomach and glared at his opponent. "What the hell is this!?"
Jenny smirked. "Let me guess. You tried to special summon a monster." The Shadow Rider's surprised look confirmed her suspicions. "Too bad for you then. With my Barrier Statue on the field, only light monsters can be special summoned."
"Awesome!" Michael grinned.
"A perfect card to use against him." Bastion added. "After all, Dark World monsters are obviously dark attribute monsters. And that makes most of Kang's cards useless."
"I end my turn with two facedown cards." Two cards appeared at Jenny's feet
"You asked for it." Kang growled and drew his next card. "I activate the spell card Graceful Charity. This lets me draw three cards from my deck and discard two cards from my hand."
"I don't think so! I play Spell Shield Type-8!" Jenny's facedown card flipped up. "With this counter trap, I can send a card from my hand and negate your spell card!" Jenny discarded one of her cards, and the trap card shot a thin laser beam that shattered Kang's spell card.
"What!?" The shadow duelist exclaimed.
"And there's more. Every time I negate a spell, trap or monster effect, my Power Angel Valkyria lets me take a light fairy type monster from my deck and add it to my hand." Jenny fanned out her deck and took the card she wanted. "That's what you get for underestimating me!"
Kang didn't say anything at first. But he then chuckled darkly, much to her confusion. "My mistake. I'll do better this time. I activate the spell card, Book of Moon! This lets me force a monster into facedown defense mode. And I choose your Barrier Statue." The monster in question disappeared in a flash and was replaced by a facedown card. "Then I activate the spell card, Dark World Lightning! This lets me destroy a facedown card. There goes the one in your spell and trap card zone." A purple lightning bolt from the sky struck the facedown card, which happened to be Negate Attack.
"I thought he'd go after Jenny's facedown monster." Jaden mused.
Kang grinned. "And after successfully destroying a facedown card, my Dark World Lightning lets me discard a card from my hand." The moment he discarded one of his cards, a cylinder like fiend monster with a small blade appeared. "The card I just discarded was Kahkki, Guerilla of Dark World. And due to its effect, one monster on the field is destroyed!" The fiend swung its blade Power Angel Valkyria, shattering her into pixels.
"My Valkyria!" Jenny cried out.
"And now I summon Zure, Knight of Dark World!" A fiend with grey skin, grey armor and a dark cloak emerged, wielding a long sword. (ATK: 1800 DEF: 1500 LV: 4) "Now get rid of her facedown monster!" The fiendish monster swung its sword at the facedown card, revealing the statue before it exploded. "I end my turn."
"My move!" Jenny drew. "I summon Gellenduo in defense mode!" The green and pink sprites appeared in front of her. (ATK: 1700 DEF: 0 LV: 4) "And that's all."
"That's the best you can come up with? Pathetic." Kang scoffed and drew his next card and smirked. "I on the other hand can play this: Card of Demise! Now I can draw until I have 5 cards in my hand." He drew his extra cards. "Now I place a card facedown and summon Beige, Vanguard of Dark World!" A facedown card appeared as the spear wielding fiend rose up next to Zure. (ATK: 1600 DEF: 1300 LV: 4) "Now attack those pesky fairies!" Beige dashed forward and stabbed at the two sprites. But they summoned a barrier that blocked the spear. "Huh?"
"Nice try. But my Gellenduo can't be destroyed in battle."
Kang growled. "Don't think you can protect yourself forever, little girl. I end my turn."
"Here goes." Jenny drew. "First I activate Pot of Greed." She drew two more cards. "Perfect! This is getting bad for you. For starters, if I would tribute summon a light fairy type monster, I can use my Gellenduo as two sacrifices. So now I summon Master Hyperion!" The two sprites disappeared and the heavy armored fairy rose up, giving Kang a stern look. (ATK: 2700 DEF: 2100 LV. 8)
"Whoa! Look at that!" Syrus said in awe.
"Sweetness." Jaden added.
"Go get him, Jenny!" Andrew cheered.
"With pleasure! I activate Master Hyperion's special ability! Once per turn, I can take a light fairy type monster from my graveyard and remove it from play. After that, I can destroy one card on the field! So I'll remove Gellenduo, to destroy your facedown card." The green and pink sprites entered armored fairy's body, causing it to glow with a golden aura.
Kang grinned. "Not if I activate it first!"
"What!?" Jenny exclaimed.
"Reveal facedown card! Dark World Brainwashing!" His facedown card flipped up. "If I have at least 3 cards in my hand when your monster activates its effect, my trap card lets me do this: making a Dark World monster return to my hand..." Beige's body became dark energy and returned to his hand. "And now for the best part. The activated effect is now changed. Thanks to my trap card, your monster's special ability forces you to discard a random card from my hand!"
The fairy duelist gasped.
"Oh no! That means Jenny is risking to discard a Dark World monster from his hand!" Alexis realized.
"And as long as that trap card remains on the field, her monsters will keep doing that, as long as the right conditions remain." Zane added.
Jenny watched in horror as the aura surrounding her monster turned dark purple. And then, it pointed to Kang's hand and shot a piece of its aura at it, hitting the card in his far left.
Kang couldn't help but grin evilly. "Perfect! Thanks to you, I can summon the monster that I just got rid of! Now I summon Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World!" A big bestial fiend wearing gold armor with horns protruding off the shoulders, what looked like curved wings on the back and spikes on the gauntlets appeared next to Zure. It also had horns coming out of its head and carried a large axe in its hands. (ATK: 2300 DEF: 1400 LV: 5) "And get this: Since he was discarded by your monster's effect, Goldd lets me destroy up to two cards on your field!" The gold armored fiend swung his axe at the armored fairy, cutting it in half.
"No! My Master Hyperion!"
"Aw man! Jenny just lost one of her best monsters instantly." Syrus said.
"Not lishus." Chumley added.
"That is quite problematic." Bastion commented. "With that trap card in play, the effects of Jenny's monsters are more helpful for Kang than her."
"That doesn't mean she can't win." Andrew said confidently.
Jenny stared at her hand. 'But it won't be easy. I need to get rid of that trap card. But for now...' She inserted one of her cards into her duel disk. "I place one card facedown and end my turn."
"Good." Kang drew. "Now I attack with Wu-Lord of Dark World!" The fiend in golden armor leapt in the air, holding his axe over his head.
"I activate my trap! Miraculous Descent!" Jenny's facedown flipped up. "Now I can summon a fairy type monster that's been removed from the game. So I'll bring back Gellenduo to protect my life points!" The green and pink sprites appeared from a dimensional portal. (ATK: 1700 DEF: 0 LV: 4) They then created a barrier that blocked Goldd's attack.
"You won't be so lucky for too long." Kang declared and inserted a card into his duel disk. "I end my turn with a facedown card."
"My move." Jenny drew her next card and looked at it. 'Nova Summoner. Normally, its effect would be helpful. But because of that trap card, I can't use it.' She then held up her other card. "I activate the spell card, Cards from the Sky! First I'll remove a light fairy type monster from my hand." Nova Summoner appeared briefly before disappearing. "Then I'll get to draw two cards from my deck." She drew her extra cards. "Then I'll summon Radiant Jeral in defense mode!" The unique emerald statue with glowing wings and halos appeared. (ATK: 1000 DEF: 2000 LV: 4) "Then I'll end my turn."
Kang looked at the card he drew and grinned. "I activate the trap card, Fine!" His facedown card revealed itself.
"What does that do?" Jaden wondered.
Zane had a grim look on his face. "That trap card lets him discard two cards from his hand."
Shiori's eyes widened. "That's seriously bad!"
"Indeed." Banner said worriedly. "I wonder what cards he's gonna discard this time."
"Let me show you!" Kang replied and discarded two of his cards. And then, his duel disk released purple mist that covered the ground. Everyone waited nervously for what was going to happen. Eventually, they saw a creature rising up from it. It was Beige, Vanguard of Dark World. (ATK: 1600 DEF: 1300 LV: 4) "Since Beige was discarded from my hand, I was able to summon him back to the field. And now for the other card I discarded." At those words, a loud growling was heard.
"What was that?" Xander asked alarmed.
"Whatever it is... it's not friendly." Clover replied.
And soon after, something big rose up right behind Kang. It was a big dragon with wings, a skeletal-looking head with horns near its mouth, attached to its long, bony neck. It also had a long tail with a sharp tip. It let out a mighty roar.
"Oh dear!" Crowler cried out in fear.
"Oh man." Jaden muttered in shock.
Andrew, as well as Jenny, looked horrified. "Oh no..." The former muttered.
"Not that monster." The latter said.
Kang grinned at his opponent's reaction. "I see you remember this fine creature. That's right. It's my almighty Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World! And since it was discarded by a card effect, it's special ability lets me destroy one of your cards. So say goodbye to your Gellenduo!" The dragon spat out a torrent of silver flames at the green and pink sprites. Jenny held up her arms due to the intense heat. Once the assault was over, the dragon disappeared.
"Damn! Now he can get through her defense and damage her real bad." Michael pointed out.
"But she'll survive after this, right?" Syrus asked.
"Wrong!" Andrew replied firmly, getting everyone's attention. "Because that dragon is far from gone!"
Kang laughed at his words. "Correct! Because Grapha has another special ability. By returning one of my Dark World monsters to my hand, I can resurrect it!"
Jenny gritted her teeth.
"So now, Beige! Return to my hand!" The fiend in question glowed and transformed into a card, which was added into Kang's hand. "Now rise once more, Grapha!" The big, fiendish dragon roared loudly as it appeared again. (ATK: 2700 DEF: 1800 LV: 8) "And since I haven't normal summoned yet, I'll bring back Beige to the field." The spear wielding fiend monster appeared again. (ATK: 1600 DEF: 1300 LV: 4)
"Four monsters!" Chumley exclaimed.
"Great! Guess we can kiss Jenny's key goodbye." Chazz said in his usual tone.
"Time to end this! Goldd, destroy Radiant Jeral!" The gold armored fiend swung its axe at the emerald statue, shattering it into pieces. "Now your soul is mine! Grapha! Attack!" The dragon reared its head back as flames started to form inside its mouth.
"I activate the trap card, Call of the Haunted!" Jenny revealed her facedown card. "Now I can summon a monster from my graveyard! Now come forth, Master Hyperion!" The heavy armored fairy appeared on the field again. (ATK: 2700 DEF: 2100 LV: 8)
Kang raised an eyebrow at her monster... before he smirked. "Go Grapha! Dark World Hellfire!" The dragon spat out a torrent of silver flames at the fairy monster. But even with his body in flames, Master Hyperion toughed through it and tackled Grapha. Right after that, both of them exploded.
"Both of them are destroyed!" Jaden noted.
"But Kang can resurrect his monster again." Alexis reminded him.
"But before that happens..." Kang spoke up. "I still have Zure and Beige left! Now attack!" The first one to strike was Zure, who dashed forward and swung his sword at Jenny. She cried out when her left shoulder was hit.
Jenny: 4000-2200
And then, she was stabbed in the stomach by the spear wielding fiend. The pain was so intense that Jenny screamed loudly before falling to her knees.
"Jenny!" Andrew called out.
Jenny: 2200-0600
The fairy duelist panted heavily while looking up. "This... this pain... So this is how a Shadow Game feels like..."
"Yes! Every damage you take in a duel is real. And once your life points are gone, so is your soul. Now then..." Everyone watched as Beige returned to Kang's hand. "Once again, I return Beige to my hand and resurrect Grapha!" The menacing dragon rose up on the field again. (ATK: 2700 DEF: 1800 LV: 8) "If you can stand up, it's your turn."
Jenny struggled to get up.
"She can barely stand." Bastion noted.
"How could we let this happen!?" Crowler freaked out.
Jenny's vision started to get blurry. 'This is bad. I hardly have the energy to keep fighting. I guess this is...'
"Come on, Jenny!" Andrew encouraged her. "You can do it! I believe in you!"
That seemed to snap her out of it. She stood straight and smiled at him. 'Thanks, Andrew.' She then turned to her opponent and narrowed her eyes. 'I can't give up now! If I do that, then the Shadow Riders will get one step closer to destroy the world. Failure is not an option!' She then placed her fingers on her deck. "You want me to make my move? Then I'll do it! I draw!" She briefly looked her new card before showing it to him. "First I play Card of Demise! So just like you, I draw until I have 5 cards in my hand!" She drew a new hand. And when that happened, a transparent figure appeared next her. One that Jenny recognized all too well. 'Tethys!?'
"Hey, Andrew." Jaden whispered to his friend. "Do you see what I see?"
"Yeah. It's Jenny's duel spirit." He replied. "And this must be the first time she revealed herself to her since we met the Gravekeepers."
Kang was also able to see Jenny's monster, and he wasn't pleased. 'Another brat with a duel spirit? They're getting too unpredictable to my liking!'
"Jenny." The goddess spoke to her in her soft voice. "Use me. I can help."
She stared at her for a moment before looking at her hand. 'But with that trap card on the field, your effect will change.'
"It won't happen. As long as you use the right card."
Jenny wondered what her monster meant. What could she do? 'Wait a minute!' She then noticed a particular card in her hand. 'Yes, that's it!' She smiled as a plan was being formed in her head.
Kang noticed the look on her face. 'What's she up to?'
"First I activate the spell card Valhalla, Hall of the Fallen!" The named spell card appeared. "Since I have no monsters on my field, I can summon a fairy type monster from my hand. I summon Tethys, Goddess of Light!" The beautiful, white clad woman with angel wings appeared from a flash of light. (ATK: 2400 DEF: 1800 LV: 5) "Then I'll place two cards facedown." Two cards appeared at Jenny's feet. "And now I'll attack. Tethys, destroy his Knight of Dark World with Heavenly Burst!" She held up her hands, and conjured light energy. And then, she fired it like beam, obliterating the sword wielding fiend.
Kang: 2200-1600
"I end my turn." Jenny concluded
"Enough with this!" Kang said and drew. "I activate the field spell, The Gates of Dark World!" The familiar, black gateway rose up behind him. "Thanks to this field spell, all fiend type monsters gain 300 attack and defense points." (ATK: 2700-3000 DEF: 1800-2100) (ATK: 2300-2600 DEF: 1400-1700)
Jenny stepped back.
"I can sense your fear." Kang grinned. "One attack, and your soul will spend all the eternity in the shadows! Now... let's end this! Grapha, destroy her Goddess and end this duel!" The fiendish dragon spat out another torrent of silver flames.
"I reveal my facedown card! Rush Recklessly!" Jenny revealed her facedown card. "Now I can give a monster 700 more attack points until the end of the turn. Now Tethys, power up!" The angel-like monster glowed with a bright aura. (ATK: 2400-3100) And then, she fired a ball of light that pushed through the flames and exploded when it hit the maws of the dragon. The fearsome creature was destroyed.
Kang: 1600-1500
"Yes!" Clover exclaimed.
"Nice going, Jenny!" Alexis cheered.
Kang however scoffed. "That won't help you! Remember, I can summon Grapha back from the graveyard, as long as I have a Dark World monster I can take back to my hand. Goldd, return to me!" The golden fiend in armor returned to his hand, and Grapha rose up on the field again. (ATK: 2700-3000 DEF: 1800-2100 LV: 8) "And your monster's strength goes back after this, and you can't stop my monster. But just in case, I'll use the second effect of my field spell. First I'll remove a fiend type monster from my graveyard..." Scarr appeared on the field before it entered the gateways. "And then, I can discard another fiend type monster from my hand and draw a card." Kang discarded one of his cards and drew. "And since I discarded Goldd, he comes back to the field." The fiend in golden armor appeared again. (ATK: 2300-2600 DEF: 1400-1700 LV: 5) "And that's all for now."
"Oh dear." Banner said.
"No matter what she does, that dragon is still on the field." Michael pointed out.
"Can she really get out of this?" Shiori wondered.
"I know she can." Andrew said. "And knowing her, she'll find a way to beat him."
'I do have a way.' Jenny thought. 'But question is will it work?' She then glanced at Tethys. She turned to her and gave her a nod. Jenny nodded in return and reached for her deck. "I draw!" With those words, she drew, and Tethys' body glowed. "And now Tethys' special ability activates!"
The spectators gasped.
"What is she doing!?" Syrus questioned.
"But she can't use her monster effects!" Chumley said.
"What is she thinking?" Chazz questioned.
Kang grinned. "Have you forgotten about my Dark World Brainwashing? As long as it remains on the field, your monster effect will be changed!" The card in question glowed purple.
But Jenny smirked. "I haven't forgotten. I have everything set to take you down!"
"Say what?" The shadow duelist questioned before Jenny's facedown card flipped up.
"I activate the trap card, Switch Off! This lets me choose a continuous spell or trap card on your field. And, until the end of this turn, that card is negated!"
"What!?" Kang exclaimed as his trap card stopped glowing and turned dark.
"Sweet!" Jaden smiled.
"Nice, Jenny!" Andrew cheered.
"Now then." Jenny continued. "Due to Switch Off's effect, one of your monsters is switched from defense to attack mode." Goldd stood up. "Okay, as I was saying, Tethys' special ability activates. When I draw a fairy type monster from my deck, I can reveal it and draw another card." She held up the card she drew. "I drew Soul of Purity and Light, so I'll draw again." Jenny drew her next card and revealed it. "Archlord Kristya." "Jenny drew again. This time, it was a spell card. "Now then, I remove two light monsters from my graveyard..." The spirits of Power Angel Valkyria and Radiant Jeral appeared briefly. "By doing so, I can summon Soul of Purity and Light!" The shining, transparent angel appeared. (ATK: 2000 DEF: 1800 LV: 6) "And now I have exactly 4 fairy type monsters in my graveyard.
"What does that matter?" Kang questioned.
"Well, because since that's the case, I can summon Archlord Kristya!" A light pillar erupted from Tethys' right. And from it, another angel emerged. This one was clad in silver armor and had snow-white skin. She was wearing a crimson red skirt. Her angel wings were as red as the skirt. (ATK: 2800 DEF: 2300 LV: 8)
"Wow!" Alexis said in awe.
"Impressive." Zane complimented.
"Alright! Since Kristya was summoned by her own effect, a fairy type monster leaves my graveyard and goes back to my hand. Not that I really need it." Jenny explained while taking a card from her graveyard.
"How come!" Kang sneered.
"Because what I really need... is the spell card I drew." Jenny held up the card in question. "Terraforming. This lets me add a field spell to my hand."
Kang looked horrified. "Oh no!"
Jenny searched through her until she found the card she wanted. "Now I play The Sanctuary in the Sky!" The gateways behind Kang disappeared as the scenery changed into the stone palace in the clouds. "And now when your field spell is gone, your monsters lose their extra points!" (ATK: 3000-2700 DEF: 2100-1800) (ATK: 2600-2300 DEF: 1700-1400) "Now Archlord Kristya, destroy his Grapha!" The armored angel fired a ray of searing light from her hands that pierced through the fiendish dragon before it shattered into pixels.
Kang: 1500-1400
"Tethys, your turn!" The Goddess of Light fired another ball of light that obliterated Goldd.
Kang: 1400-1300
"And now you're wide open. Soul of Purity and Light, end this!" The transparent angel unleashed a light wave.
"I don't think so!" Kang interrupted, surprising everyone. He then grinned. "You forgot about the facedown I placed at the beginning of the duel!"
Jenny gasped.
"I activate the spell card, Gate to Dark World!" His facedown card flipped up. "With this, I can summon a Dark World monster from my graveyard! So now I can bring back my Grapha!"
"No way!" Jaden said.
"Great Scott!" Bastion exclaimed.
"No!" Andrew said in horror.
But Jenny smiled to them. "Don't worry, guys. That card won't do a thing."
Kang widened his eyes for a moment before he gave her glare. "What do you mean!?"
The fairy duelist turned to him. "What I mean is that you can't summon your monster back, thanks to Archlord Kristya's special ability. She prevents both players from special summoning monsters!"
"WHAT!?" Kang exclaimed. He watched as his spell card shattered into pixels. "This can't be!" He was sent flying by the light waves from the transparent angel.
Kang: 1300-0000
He grunted while getting up. "That's it!" He growled at Jenny. "I am so gonna-huh?" He then noticed a dark portal opening up behind him. This made him pale. "No! No no no no! Not again!" He tried to run away but tendrils of shadows came out of the portal and wrapped themselves around his body and dragged him in. "NOOOOOO!" Once he was gone, the portal closed itself and disappeared.
As for Jenny, she sighed in relief, but then fell over on the ground.
"Ah! Jenny!" Andrew quickly approached her and helped her sit up. The others surrounded them. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, just tired." She muttered.
"That was really close there." Xander said.
"Yeah. Tight duel!" Jaden added.
"Well played Jenny." Alexis complimented.
"Thanks. It wasn't easy. But everything turned... out..." Jenny couldn't say another word as she slowly fell asleep.
"Now she's sleeping?" Chumley asked.
Michael smiled. "Well, after all that, can you blame her?
"We probably should take her to the Nurse's office." Banner suggested.
"Good idea." Andrew agreed. And then, he lifted Jenny up in bridal style. "Oopsie daisy!" He then headed to the Academy building followed by the others, failing to notice Clover's look on her face.
And that was Shadow Rider number 7. Only 5 left. Until next time.
