The next morning, Chloe was seated at her kitchen table. She had been there pretty much all night. She didn't sleep a wink all night. She didn't even try. Too much was on her mind to even contemplate it. Instead, she spent the night thinking and looking at pictures of her little girl. She had a picture of Trixie as a toddler and another of her from her birthday party from just a few weeks ago. She honestly didn't know how didn't know. Looking at the two pictures now, they looked so similar. In her defense though, she hadn't looked at them together before. She'd packed Trixie's pictures up years ago. It just hurt too much to have them around the house.

Chloe did a lot of thinking in the last several hours. She felt a plethora of emotions all at once. She felt happiness, of course, as well as relief. The whole that had been inside her for so long had started to close. The fear and dread had finally gone away after five years. She no longer had to spend every waking moment wondering what her child's fate was. She knew now. She knew her little girl was okay.

Chloe also felt rage, at Malcolm, at the people who bought her child and then mistreated her, and Dan for allowing it all to happen. She also felt a small amount of anger for Lucifer. Not because he did anything wrong really, but simply because he'd gotten to be a parent to her when she didn't. It wasn't right, but she couldn't help but resent him for that.

Chloe had done a lot of thinking about Lucifer, and while she did feel that undeserving resentment for him at the moment, she knew that Lucifer had done nothing wrong. He didn't know. She truly believed that. Even if he hadn't told her he didn't, she would never believe him capable of such a thing. Lucifer wasn't a child thief. Other than Beatrice, he didn't like children. He certainly wouldn't go out of his way to steal one. In fact, it had to have been very hard for him to tell her the truth when he did find out. He didn't have to do that. He could've kept it from her and disappeared. Instead, he was honest.

She owed Lucifer a lot. Her little girl likely wouldn't have had nearly as good an outcome if not for Lucifer. He probably saved her life, and he definitely made it possible for her to have a real childhood. Chloe would never be able to repay Lucifer for what he'd done. She would owe him for the rest of her life. So, yes, the resentment she had for him having what she didn't needed to disappear. It wasn't fair.

Chloe's thoughts were soon interrupted by a knock at the door. She immediately got up and answered it. She found her ex-husband on the other side. "Dan, what are you doing here?"

"Well, I got your message. You said you wanted to talk," Dan said.

"I said to come over tonight," Chloe said. She wanted to talk to Lucifer one more time before she told Dan the truth. She planned to talk with Lucifer about how to handle things and try to prepare for whatever might happen with Dan. Then she was going to tell her ex.

"I know, but I have a stakeout tonight, and you said in your message that you were taking the day off, so I figured now would be better," Dan said.

Chloe sighed and stepped aside to let him in. She didn't want to do it this way, but Dan was already here, and no matter how angry she was with him, she couldn't send him away without telling him now. "Fine. Come in."

Dan nodded and stepped inside.

"What's going on?" Dan asked.

"Sit down. This is going to be a long conversation," Chloe said before leading the way to the kitchen table and sitting down.

"Okay," Dan said as he took a seat across from her.

"Okay, so for a while now, Lucifer and I have been looking into what may have happened to Trixie the day we lost her," Chloe said.

"What? Why wouldn't you tell me that? Why the hell are you even talking to that bastard about my daughter?" Dan asked angrily.

Chloe had to fight with every fiber of her body not to scream at Dan. She wanted this done as soon as possible, so she chose to fight the overwhelming urge for the moment. "Are you interested in what we found out?"

"You found something?" Dan asked surprised. There had been no leads on Trixie's whereabouts or what happened to her in the five years since she disappeared.

"Yes. The whole thing actually started because we were investigating Malcolm."

"Chloe, you were supposed to let that go!" Dan yelled.

Chloe slammed her hand down on the table angrily. "Damn it, Dan, I'm trying to tell you about our daughter!"

"What does Malcolm have to do with Trixie?" he asked.

"Everything. He's responsible for it."

Dan sighed. "You're taking this obsession with Malcolm too far. Just because he was there that day…"

"He admitted to Lucifer. He told him that he took our daughter. He also came into money right after stealing our child," Chloe said.

"Malcolm said he took Trixie? Before or after your partner threatened him. We both know what that nutcase is capable of," Dan said. He didn't think much of Malcolm anymore, but he didn't believe that his former friend abducted his child either.

"There is proof of what happened to our child. Malcolm and a buddy of his sold her. There's a paper trail," Chloe said.

"Where is she then? Who has her?"

Chloe sighed. This was going to be the hard part. She knew Dan would not respond well to finding out that their daughter was with Lucifer. She was kind of worried about what he might do. That was why she wanted to speak with Lucifer about it first. "Lucifer. It's a complicated story, but Lucifer took her from the man he thought was her father after seeing him mistreat her."

"You mean that kid he adopted is Trixie?" Dan asked in disbelief.

"Her name is Beatrice. She doesn't go by Trixie anymore," Chloe said. It saddened her a little, but she wouldn't force a nickname on her little girl she wasn't used to. She didn't want to confuse her any more than she was already going to be.

Dan stood up from his chair. "Let's go get her."

"You can't possibly think it's that simple," Chloe said.

"Of course, it is. She's our child, not his. Let's go get her. We can be a family again," Dan said with a huge smile on his face.

Chloe looked at her ex-husband as if he'd gone completely insane. He couldn't really believe that was going to happen, could he? Did he really think finding their daughter would make her forget that his neglect was the reason they lost her in the first place? "Are you crazy? Dan, I can barely tolerate your presence at the station every day. You honestly think there is any part of me that wants to be a family with you?"

"It's different now. We've found her," Dan said as though it made all the difference in the world.

Chloe stood up and glared fiercely at him. "I lost five years with my child because you prioritized getting drunk over looking after her! Beatrice was put through hell because of you! I'm not just going to forget about that now!"

"It was Malcolm's fault. He stole her."

"And you made it possible!" Chloe countered. She hated Malcolm for what he did, but she was not going to let Dan off the hook. Malcolm couldn't have done it if Dan had been doing his job.

Dan sighed. "Okay, we can talk about it later. Let's just go get Trixie."

"Beatrice! And you cannot just go get her! Forgetting the fact that currently, Lucifer is her legal father, and neither of us has any standing to do anything, I'm not going to let you traumatize my daughter by removing her from the only real home she can remember having," Chloe said firmly.

"You're not seriously suggesting we leave her with the guy claiming to be the Devil. He stole our child!" Dan yelled.

"No, he didn't. Lucifer didn't know. He saved our daughter. I'm not even sure Beatrice would be alive if not for him," Chloe said.

"Come on, you can't believe that. Of course, he knew. He does underhanded things all the time. I'm sure he knew exactly what he was doing," Dan said.

"That makes no sense. If he knew, he wouldn't have helped me. He wouldn't have told me that Beatrice was mine. He didn't have to. It certainly doesn't help him any," Chloe argued.

"Whatever. I'm not leaving Trixie with that maniac!"

"You don't have a choice at the moment. You have no proof of what I just told you. And if you show up at Lucifer's and scare the hell out of my daughter, I will see to it that you never so much as look into her eyes again," Chloe swore. Honestly, she was considering that anyway. She didn't disagree with Lucifer that Dan was a threat to Beatrice. At the very least, she didn't trust him to be alone with her.

Dan huffed angrily before heading for the door.

Once Dan was gone, Chloe rushed to get ready to go to Lucifer's. She wasn't going to go for a few hours, but needed to speed up the process. She needed to get there and warn Lucifer in case Dan did go there.
