Chloe sat on the couch as Lucifer was on the phone setting up an appointment with his lawyer. Things were happening fast, but she supposed they had to. Dan was going to make a move soon, and they needed to be prepared to protect Beatrice.

Soon, Lucifer hung up the phone and returned to the living room. "My lawyer will meet with us tomorrow."

"That's good. I just hope that Dan doesn't try anything between now and then," Chloe said.

"Detective Douche can do nothing. I told you, he will not even get up here without me letting him. My security is to alert me to any visitors, and tomorrow, Beatrice will be in school, and I will ensure he can't reach her there either," Lucifer assured her.

"Still, we'll only be able to keep him away for so long. We'll have to tell her soon," Chloe said.

"Well, of course, we'll tell her. I won't lie," he said.

"Of course not, but I thought it would be better to take things a little slower, maybe wait a few weeks before we tell her. Unfortunately, I don't think we can do that. Dan showed very little concern for how all of this would affect Beatrice. He's not gonna care if he scares her, and I doubt he'll keep quiet around her either," Chloe said. This was yet another reason why Chloe agreed with Lucifer about letting Dan have as minimal contact with Beatrice as possible. He couldn't think about what was in her best interests. At the same time though, she wanted this to go as easily as possible for Beatrice. If it could be avoided, she didn't want a drawn-out custody battle between them and Dan.

Just then, Lucifer's phone rang. He immediately picked it up. "Yes? Very well. You can send her up."

"What's going on?" Chloe asked as Lucifer hung up the phone.

"Lieutenant Monroe is here. She wishes to speak to me," Lucifer said.

Chloe frowned. She couldn't think of anything the lieutenant would have to talk to Lucifer about. "About what? We have no active cases, and even if we did, she would normally contact me first."

"I don't know," Lucifer said.

Just then, the elevator dinged, and Lieutenant Monroe stepped out.

Chloe immediately stood up to greet her boss.

"Decker, you don't look sick to me," Monroe said.

"Hello, Lieutenant. No, I'm not sick. I'm sorry I lied. I had a personal issue I needed to deal with," Chloe said.

"Would that personal issue be your daughter?"

Chloe was shocked at first to hear the other woman's question. Then she realized that Dan must have gone to her. That's why he hadn't shown up at the penthouse yet. He'd instead decided to try to do things the official way.

"Your ex was in my office today telling me how the child your partner adopted was actually your daughter, and that he kidnapped her," she said.

"Detective Douche is an idiot," Lucifer said.

"I came to speak with Lucifer off the record, since I was almost certain it was misunderstanding, but finding you here after calling out this morning, Decker, seems like way too much of a coincidence," Monroe said.

Chloe glanced at Lucifer before turning back to her lieutenant. "You said you came to speak off the record. Can we do that now?"

"Go ahead."

"For the past few months, Lucifer and I have been investigating my daughter's disappearance," Chloe said.

"It's a good thing we're talking off the record, otherwise I'd have to tell you that you broke several protocols by doing that," she said.

"And I'd tell you that I don't care," Chloe said bluntly.

"I wouldn't expect you to. Go on," Lieutenant Monroe said. She had children too. If her child disappeared, she wouldn't let protocols stand in the way of looking for her either.

"Actually, we were more looking into Malcolm Graham, which led back to what happened to my daughter," Chloe said.

"Oh, hell. Are you telling that an LAPD detective kidnapped your kid? I hope you have proof of this," Monroe said.

"We can get it easily enough," Lucifer said. He had no doubt that he could get Detective Graham's accomplice to give him up, and he'd always planned to do just that. Lucifer had made a deal with Malcolm about leaving him alone in Hell. He never said anything about keeping him out of prison now.

"Malcolm admitted what he did to Lucifer. He had my daughter sold on the black market," Chloe said through gritted teeth. It angered her so much that so many people had treated her little girl like nothing more than an expensive piece of furniture that could be bought and sold. "Lucifer was later able to obtain information on what happened to her, and that led him to the conclusion that his child and mine were the same person. He did not steal my child, and he didn't buy her either. He adopted her believing she didn't have parents who wanted her.

The lieutenant nodded. "If you believe that, Decker, I have no reason not to. Espinoza sure left a lot out when I spoke with him. He didn't mention Graham at all."

"I'm sure he didn't. He's been too concerned with trying to paint Lucifer as the bad guy. He won't see that if it weren't for Lucifer, Beatrice would probably be dead. He wanted to just rush over here and rip Beatrice away, as if it could ever be that simple," Chloe fumed.

"This is a mess. Technically, I should call Child Services and have them remove the child while everything is sorted through," she said.

"No one is taking my child!" Lucifer said in a dangerous tone.

"Yeah, please don't do that. That's going to cause Beatrice so much pain. She's been through enough. She was put through hell before Lucifer came into her life. He means everything to her. Please, don't put my daughter through that," Chloe begged.

"I said I should. As an officer of the law, that is my duty. However, this conversation took place off the record, so technically, it didn't happen at all. You haven't given me any proof of what you've told me and neither has Espinoza. There's no evidence to suggest that I was told by Detective Espinoza was anything but a conspiracy theory," Monroe said.

Chloe sighed in relief. "Thank you, Lieutenant."

"I'm only buying you time, Decker. Espinoza isn't going to back off, and if he contacts Social Services, it might very well be over. However, I can try to stall him for a day or two, long enough for you to come up with a plan," she said. Normally she wouldn't take sides between two detectives like this, especially with children involved, but she had a problem with parents who passed out drunk and neglected their kids, so that made it easier for her to lean more towards Decker's side.

"Thank you."

"Figure this out quick. I want graham in a cell," Monroe said.

"So do we," Chloe said.

She nodded and headed towards the elevator.

Chloe turned back towards Lucifer once the lieutenant left. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have told Dan."

Lucifer shook his head and waved off her apology. "He would've found out eventually, and this would still be the situation we found ourselves in."

"We have to figure this out," she said.

"We will. We'll start with meeting with my lawyer tomorrow. Come on, I think we both need a drink."

Chloe followed him over to the bar. She really could use a drink right now.
