This is a very short 'Salvation' missing scene. It fits into that commerical break between Sam having the vision and the motel room afterwards. Enjoy! Phoenix
Déjà vu
Pain. Blinding pain. It hurt to much too move. To think. To breathe…
Surrounded by images, so bright, so crisp all with sharp edges tearing into his vulnerably aware mind.
Everything so familiar but so unknown…
'I've been here before… but I never have.'
The pain slices through his head and he reaches up to try and pinch it off. To somehow make it go away.
'Not now'. He gasps, 'So fucking not now. Not when I need to think. Now when it's so close I can almost smell its foul breath.'
Driving agony pushes him to his knees; the pounding in his skull is overwhelming and he cries out. 'Someone help me. Please…' but his lips don't move and no one can read his mind.
Oh, some can see in and catch glimpses but even one as powerful as his father's friend, Missouri, can't truly read what he won't acknowledge… His Shining, his brother calls it. His curse, he calls it himself.
He heard her whisper 'so powerful and yet he couldn't even sense his own father' and shrugged it off. Too many voices fight for his mental spotlight and he can't listen to them all.
There is only one voice that he can truly hear; and only one he can respond to… but that voice is not here. It's across town somewhere….
He gasps; now he's on his hands and knees, pressing his skull against the cold, damp earth desperate for relief. He is surrounded by a child's room... a nursery and he knows a demon is coming. Not just any demon but the one that fractured his family.
The one they hunt for.
The one he hunts for.
The young hunter has seen enough now and begs the pain and visions to go away. He understands but it doesn't.
The sound of squealing tires makes him scream in agony and grip his head even harder. Everything is too loud. Too loud. Too loud…
And then his name, softly spoken but heavy with concern.
"Sammy?"
Someone is kneeling down beside him, pressing strong hands on his trembling shoulders. He knows that someone… He knows that voice… It is the only one
Forcing his head up, he meets the concerned gaze of his older brother and barely wonders what Dean is doing here. He doesn't care really... all he cares about is that Dean is here and the pain is slowly receding… The vision driven back at bay waits to lurk again. Silent and sharp, at any time prepared to shred the darkness of his mind with daggers of light – a gift and a curse…the story of his life…
"Jesus Sam…"
He feels his brother pull him to his feet. His brother's gentleness belying his strength…. Dean is a killer but than again so is Sam.
Sam locks eyes on his brother as scalding tears burn his face. He tries to tell his brother what he has seen… what he knows… and that this is the baby the demon seeks. He tries to tell everything but his tongue is still caught up in the pain and all he can do is groan, "Dean…"
His brother's grip tightens. "Don't talk Sam. Save it 'til we get back." And he knows – like drawing the shades on a bright morning – that Dean already knows…
Now they just have to tell their father.
Sinking into the passenger seat of the sleek Impala, he closes his eyes and leans his head back. The demon is coming tonight and he is terrified.
The End
