Nancy and Bess are having breakfast at the restaurant in their hotel. "Bess there are two seminars that I want to attend, and then we have the rest of the week in Atlanta," says Nancy as she butters a roll. .
"What are they?" asks Bess as she returns her attention to her scrambled eggs, toast, and grits.
"Journalism and Linguistics," replies Nancy.
Bess looks up from her food and gives Nancy a puzzled expression. "Linguistics? Isn't that the study of how Language develops?"
"It's a little more complicated then that, but yes. I really don't know that much about the subject, but it sounds fascinating." Nancy's eyes light up as she explains to Bess every thing she knows about the subject.
Bess giggles, "Nan, only you would think Linguistics fascinating. I hated dissecting sentences in school, and now you want to study why someone used the word go instead of goes. At least I can understand your interest in journalism. You would make an excellent investigative reporter."
Nancy glares at Bess and returns to her own breakfast. She glances up when Bess hesitantly asks, "Nan, have you tried your grits?"
"Not yet. I know they are spouse to be a southern delicacy, but I can't bring myself to try it." Nancy swirls her fork in the grits, and frowns when she sees how much it resembles rice pudding but more liquid.
"Nancy Drew I never thought you would be reluctant to try something new," teased Bess.
"Your one to talk I've noticed you haven't touched yours either," says Nancy as she points to Bess's own plate. The eggs and one piece of toast are gone, but the grits remain untouched.
"Ok, ok you got me there Nan. How about we try it together on the count of three."
"Sure." Both girls take a spoon full of grits.
Holding her spoon level with her mouth Bess starts the count down, "One, two, three."

"Frank please tell me the next seminar is going to be more stimulating than mathematics," wines Joe as they leave the lecture hall.
Frank chuckles at his brother's behavior. "I was not all about mathematics; if you were paying attention the department also includes computer science. That is what I was interested in, but I do admit I'm intrigued by the combined math computer science major. Just think about the computer programs that you could create using high level mathematics and the problems you could solve with it."
Joe groans, "Anything but math. I understand you are great with computers bro, but really combining it with math." They continue walking down the corridor trying to avoid other pre-froshes in the process.
"Now Joe, computer programs are based on math. The top programmers are the ones who have a best understanding of mathematics. I'm already good at hacking and I want to learn more about the programming angle." Frank shrugs his shoulders as the brothers come around a corner and spot the next lecture hall.
Joe reads the easel that is by the door announcing the topic of the seminar. "Linguistics, you have to be kidding me." Joe turns to face Frank. "Since when do you want to study Linguistics Frank?"
"Since it would look good on my application to the FBI," replies Frank.
"You really want to go back to the academy? I didn't mind PT and firearms practice, but the other classes..." Joe trailed off as he spots a beautiful blond talking on her cell phone with her back to him a few feet away. There is something about her that seems familiar.
Frank looks in the same direction as Joe and shakes his head. "Earth to Joe, are you going to join me in the seminar or are you going to stay here and drool for the next hour?"
Joe looks at Frank. "Um, neither I'm going to spend the next hour with her. Besides I don't think I'm up to feigning interest in a seminar that under normal circumstances would put me to sleep. I promise you will be able to enjoy my company again when the seminar is over."
"What ever you say little brother, I'll see you in an hour outside the student union, ok."
Joe nods in agreement, and then Frank walks into the lecture hall. Joe starts in the direction of his prey, then stops dead in his tracks. A small trickster smile passed over his face, as he recognizes the beauty.

"… a full scholarship? That's great George." Bess is leaning against a wall in a crowded hallway talking on her cell phone.
"Yeah, they are the first school to through in tuition room and board as well as tuition. Also they are going to let me join practice this week. I can't believe that I could be practicing with college players before I get accepted." George is Bess's cousin and other best friend.
Bess grins into the phone. "So dose that means you are going to be in Athens this week?"
"It looks like it. I fly into Atlanta tomorrow around noon and Gerry will pick me up to take me to Georgia." George's voice was very excited. George was great at sports and now that softball is recognized as a professional sport, she stood a chance of going pro if she played college ball.
"Hey maybe Nancy and I can meet you at the airport and have lunch. There are some great restaurants in the atrium of the airport. That way Nancy can tell you what she thinks of Emory and you can fill us in on Gerry," Bess says with a hint amusement
George sighs, "That sounds like a plan to me. I also promise to fill you in on Gerry, but really there is nothing to tell. He is just the recruiter's assistant."
Bess laughs, "Sure George sure. Well I should get back to Nancy before the seminar starts." The crowd was starting to thin out soon the hallway would be empty.
"I wouldn't want to keep you from Nancy and Linguistics," George says with a laugh. "Call me tonight so I can give you my flight information and plan where to meet, Kay. Bye."
"Will do. Talk to you latter." Bess closes her phone and places it in her purse, leaving her place on the wall. She starts to walk toward the lecture hall, just then a pair of arms wrap around her from behind.
A male voice whispers in her ear, "Now who would have imagined Bess Marvin at such a prestigious university? I didn't realize that they had a fashion design school."
Bess's first reaction is to scream, but she immediately recognizes the voice. A smile creeps on to her face, and she spins around still in the man's arms. "I will have you know Joe Hardy that I got good grades in high school, and I have plans to attend college," as she pokes Joe in the chest.
Joe raises his hand in the air, "hey I surrender, and you could totally go here. You could redesign the whole campus so it doesn't seem so sterile."
Bess and Joe both start to laugh. "Seriously though, Nancy is the one applying to Emory. I 'm just providing company and hopefully getting a free vacation at Mr. Drew's expense."
"What a coincidences I happed to be providing the same thing for Frank. What do you say we skip the seminar and spend the time catching up" Joe gives her his irresistible Hardy smile.
Bess feels herself start to flush, "I would love to Joe, but I promised Nancy I would stay with her. She said she wanted a familiar face around."
"I bet you $50 that Nan and Frank are going to bump into each other; he can be her familiar face. They can meet us in the student union after the seminar. Besides I already told Frank I would be spending the next hour with the women of my dreams." Joe's eyes twinkled at her.
Bess found herself drowning in his eyes, and not for the first time. "Fine you win, but let me text message Nan to tell her of the change in plans." Bess draws her cell phone back out of her peruse.
"Sounds good to me but don't tell Nan we're here. It will be so much more interesting if they find each other." The tone in Joe's voice makes Bess think that Frank might have feelings more than friendship towards Nancy after all.
Bess punches a few buttons then puts her phone up. "Well, shall we go Romeo?"
Joe offers Bess his arm, "anything for you princes."
