Next chapter is up sooner than I had expected. There might be more errors than normal in this one. I usally read over my work a couple of times, but I'm going away for the weekend and won't have access to the computer so I'm posting it as I finished it. Please review. Also I'm open for sujestions, I keep revising my outline and now I'm not sure where I'm going with this.
How do You Say Goodbye – Chapter 3
000000000000000000000000000000000000
Nancy glances around the room, studying the faces and postures of the other pre-froshes. It seemed that most of the pre-froshes had brought a friend or a family member along for support. Everyone seems to be talking in pairs, but occasionally Nancy would see a group of five to six pre-froshes talking excitingly with each other.
Nancy sighs and starts looking for a place to sit. She walks down the left aisle towards the front of the room. Most of the other pre-froshes are also finding seats. She spots two empty seats at the end of the second row, and makes her way towards them. She decides to sit in the seat that is on the aisle and puts her purse and her note book on the other seat essentially saving it for Bess.
Once she gets settled Nancy turns around and looks towards the entrance searching the crowed for her buxom friend. Where are you Bess? That phone call with George couldn't have taken that long. Nancy knows that when Bess gets back she will tell Nancy everything that George had said. Nancy is dying to know how George's interview with the recruiter had gone.
Nancy's thoughts drift towards the seminar she had just attended. She had learned what was expected of the journalism students and what kinds of classes that were available. If she choose to go her and study Journalism it was mandatory that she work on the school paper for at least a semester, and do an internship with a newspaper or TV news.
I think I'd have to go the newspaper rout. I never got the feeling that the TV news personalities did their own stories. Besides I don't think I could see myself sitting behind the anchor desk and having cameras pointing at me. Plus with as many people out to get me I should probably not be in the lime light. Nancy chuckles at the last thought, but it's a desperate sound.
Once again Nancy searches the back of the room. Bess I need you to keep these thoughts at bay, where are you? Nancy rarely admits to being afraid but lately she had been getting threatening letters. The letters started coming two months ago. One arrived every Monday, with a bouquet of flowers. The police had gone to the flower shop to get information on the sender, but found that the orders were always placed over the internet. The day before the flowers are delivered to Nancy the shop receives in the mail the payment in cash and the letter that is to accompany the flowers.
The police had told the flower shop to keep the next envelope the payment came in so they could do some forensic tests on it. They found nothing except that it was mailed from the main post office in River Heights. These letters were one of the reasons Nancy was going so far away to college. She was hoping that she could get away from her admirer. What scares her most is that it could be so many people, ranging for the kid she got arrested for pick-pocketing to ex-KGB spies. She has a lot of enemies.
Nancy is so deep in thought she doesn't notice the young man coming down the aisle, even after he stops in his tracks and stares at her for a good three minuets before taking a seat five rows away. Just then her cell phone beeps at her. Nancy turns around and takes her cell phone out of her purse.
Nancy flips open her phone and reads the text message. Nan meet gg going to skip see you at student center after. Nancy sighs I should have known she would find a gg (gorgeous guy) now I have to sit through this lecture alone. I'm going to give her hell when this is over.
Nancy picks up her purse and notebook and moves over one seat. No use saving a seat now and it will be easier it no one has to climb over me.
After she resettles she looks at her watch 11:25 the lecture should start in five minuets. She hears her cell phone beep again. Now what dose Bess want? She reads the new message. Drew want company? Frank
00000000000000000000000000000000000000
Frank is still shaking his head as he walked into the lecture hall. Joe just can't help himself when it comes to girls. I wonder if the old Hardy charm will work this time. I guess I'll find out later.
Frank looks at his watch. 11:20 better get a set. I think I'll try to get one up front. He notices that most of the pre-froshes have clogged up the right aisle and that the left one was left relatively free for travel.
Franks starts to make his way down the aisle, all the while searching for an empty seat towards the front. There seem to be plenty along the aisle; most of the pre-froshes had wanted to sit in the middle of the rows. Frank let his eyes sweep over the room and its occupants; they came to rest on a beautiful redhead.
NANCY! What in the world is she doing here? That's an idiotic question Frank, obviously she here because she is thinking of attending Emory. What am I going to do? Do? You are going to go over and say hi. Then you are going to tell her how much you have missed her and that you love her. No, I should pretend I didn't see her and go sit in the back of the hall so I can leave as fast as possible after the lecture. Talking with her will only confuse me more.
You are such a wimp Frank Hardy when it comes to your heart. Just because Callie broke it doesn't mean Nancy will. SHUT UP! I'm not ready. Ok, ok but look at her she is searching for someone, she'll notice you soon. Fine I'll sit down then I won't be so easy to spot. Frank looks over at the row of seats and takes the first one.
Wonder who she's looking for Bess, George, Mr. Drew, maybe Ned? Probably Bess or George, Mr. Drew is always so busy on cases he wouldn't have been able to come. And Ned? Frank's chest tightens. She said it was over between them, she wouldn't have brought him on a weekend trip to Atlanta. So you say. I do say.
Frank continues to study Nancy's face. What strikes him most are her eyes. They were always so bright that they sparkle, but now they seemed dull and hunted. Something is wrong. Of course something is wrong you won't go see her. No not that, I think there is something bothering her. She seems almost desperate to find the person she is looking for. So why don't you go comfort her? What if she's looking for her boyfriend? You are a complete idiot. She is one of your bets friends if she was seeing someone knew you would know. Would I? I'm not so sure. I mean I haven't even told her about Callie yet so it is possible that she would keep something from me as well.
Frank sees Nancy turn around and get out her cell phone. He could tell she got a text message because she never brought the phone up to her ear. He noticed her shoulders slump, then she gathered her belongings and moved down one seat. Looks to me like she was stood up, so now it's your turn Frank. She looks like she could use a friend. Fine but I'll text her.
Frank takes his cell phone off his belt and sends Nancy a message. Nothing to do now but wait. The response comes almost immediately. Yes
