The Winx Club's Sodor Adventures - Season 2
Episode 3: Bertie's Chase
One morning, Edward and Tecna were at Wellsworth Station, waiting to pick some passengers from Thomas and Bloom's train. "Peep, peep! We're late! Where is Thomas? He doesn't usually make us wait."
"Oh dear, what can the matter be?" sang Edward's fireman, Charlie. "Johnny's so long and..."
"Never mind about Johnny right now, Charlie," laughed Tecna. "Just climb on the cab and look for Thomas and Bloom. Can you see them?"
"No," replied the fireman. "There's Bertie Bus in a tarrying hurry. No need to bother with him though. Likely, he's on a coach tour of something." He clambered down, and Tecna thought they'd better go. So they set off.
But what they didn't know was that decision they made was a mistake.
"Stop, stop! I've got Thomas and Bloom's passengers!" wailed Bertie, roaring up to the gates.
But it was no good. Edward and Tecna were gone.
"Bother," said Bertie. "Bother Bloom visiting at her mortal parents' home in Gardenia instead of coming to work today. Why did I promise to help the visitors catch the train?"
"That will do, Bertie," said Daphne. "A promise is a promise and we must keep it."
"I'll catch Edward or bust," said Bertie. "Oh, my gears and axles!" he groaned, toiling up the hill. "I'll never be the same bus again."
"Hooray, hooray! I see them!" cheered Daphne as they reached the top.
"Oh, no! Edward and Tecna are at the station! No, they stopped at a crossing. Hooray, hooray!"
Bertie toured down the hill.
"Well done, Bertie!" shouted his passengers. "Go it!"
Bertie and Daphne skidded into the yard. "Wait, wait!" cried Bertie. He was just in time to see Edward and Tecna puffed away.
"I'm sorry," said Bertie.
"Never mind," said the passengers. "After him quickly. Third time lucky you know. Do you think we'll catch them at the next station, Daphne?"
"There's a good chance," replied Daphne. "Our road keeps close to the line and we can climb hills better than Edward. I'll just make sure."
She spoke to the stationmaster. Bertie and the passengers waited impatiently.
"Yes! We'll do it this time," said Daphne, smiling.
"Hooray!" called the passengers, as Bertie chased after Edward and Tecna once more.
"This hill is too steep! This hill is too steep!" grumbled the coaches as Edward and Tecna snorted in front. They reach the top at last and ran smoothly into the station.
"Peep!" whistled Edward. "Get in quickly, please!"
The conductor blew the whistle and Tecna looked back. But the flag didn't wave, and they were very confused about it.
"I wonder what's going on?" thought Tecna.
Then they heard Bertie. Everything seemed to happen at once, and Daphne and the stationmaster told Tecna and the conductor what had happened.
"I'm sorry about the chase, Bertie," said Edward.
"Edward's right," said Tecna. "We should've known Thomas wasn't working today. We understand that Bloom had to visit her mortal parents in Gardenia. So you're not to blame. We just didn't want to be late."
"My fault," replied Bertie. "Late at junction. You didn't know about Thomas' passengers."
"No, but it's okay," answered Tecna.
"Peep peep! Goodbye, Bertie! We're off!" whistled Edward.
"Thank you for your help!" called out Tecna.
"Three cheers for Bertie!" called the passengers.
Bertie raced back to tell Thomas that all was well.
"Thank you, Bertie, for keeping your promise," said Thomas. "You and Daphne are very good friends indeed."
