The Winx Club's Sodor Adventures - Season 2
Episode 16: Donald and Douglas
Donald and Douglas are twins and have arrived from Scotland to help Sir Topham Hatt, but only one engine had been expected. They have two specialist students from Red Fountain that liked working with the duo. They were Bloom and Stella's boyfriends Prince Sky of Eraklyon and his faithful squire, Brandon. They were best friends. The Twins meant well, but did cause confusion. Sir Topham Hatt had given them numbers: Donald 9 and Douglas 10, but he was still planning to send one engine home.
There was a spiteful brake van in the yard named Dominic, who had taken a dislike to Douglas. Things always went wrong when he and Brandon had to take him out. Their trains were late, and they were blamed. Douglas and Brandon began to worry.
When Donald and Sky found out, they were very cross. So they went straight to Dominic to straighten him up.
"You're a muckled nuisance!" said Donald. "It's to leave you behind I'd be wanting!"
"I'm ashamed of you," said Sky. "You're nothing but a rotten brake van. If you don't stop this attitude, you'll suffer the consequences."
"You can't," said the brake van. "I'm essential."
"Och, are you?" Donald burst out. "You're nothing but a screech and a noise when all is said and done. Spite Dougie and Brandon, would ya? Take that!"
"Oh! Ooh!" cried Dominic.
"Well, that's for getting Douglas and Brandon into trouble!" said Sky crossly.
"That's right," said Donald, "there's more coming, should ya misbehave."
The van behaved better after that. Until one day, Donald and Sky had an accident with a signal box. The rails were slippery, and when Sky put on the brakes, they couldn't stop in time.
Donald and Sky weren't hurt, but Sir Topham Hatt was most annoyed. "I am disappointed, Donald. I didn't expect such clumsiness from you and Sky. I have decided to send Douglas back and keep you."
"We're sorry, sir," said Donald.
"Yes, sir, we really are," apologized Sky.
"I should think so, too. You have upset my arrangements. Now, James will have to help with the goods work while you have your tender mended. James and Stella won't like that."
Sir Topham Hatt was right. James and Stella grumbled dreadfully about extra work.
"Anyone would think," said Brandon. "that Donald and Sky had had their accident on purpose, but that's not true.
"You're right there, Brandon," said Douglas. "I heard tale about an engine, a fairy and some tar wagons."
"Shut up!" said James. "It's not funny!" He and Stella didn't like to be reminded of their own accident.
"Well, well, well. Surely, James, it wasn't you and Stella. You didn't say!"
James didn't say. He and Stella slouched sulkily away.
"James and Stella are cross," snickered Dominic. "We'll try to make them crosser still."
"Hold back," giggled the freight cars to each other.
James and Stella did their best, but they were exhausted when they reached Wellsworth. Luckily, Douglas and Brandon were there.
"Brandon! Help us up the hill, please!" panted Stella.
"Stella's right," panted James. "These freight cars are playing tricks."
"Don't worry, you two," said Brandon. "We'll help you."
"We'll show them," said Douglas.
Slowly, but surely, the four friends forced the freight cars up Gordon's hill.
But James was losing steam. "I can't do it! I can't do it!"
"Leave it to me!" shouted Douglas.
The conductor was anxious. "Go steady. The van's breaking!"
The van was in pieces.
No one had been hurt, and soon Edward and Tecna came to clear the mess. Sir Topham Hatt was on board.
"I might have known it would be Douglas and Brandon," he said.
"Douglas and Brandon were grand, sir," said Edward. "James had no steam left, but Douglas worked hard enough for three. I heard him from my yard."
"Edward's right, sir," said Tecna. "Brandon and Douglas didn't mean to cause this train to stall. It was that horrible brake van Dominic that was the problem. I've heard that he always slipped his brakes on purpose to make trains late. Please give the twins another chance, sir. They're not troublemakers at all."
"Two would have been enough," said Sir Topham Hatt. "I want to be fair with you and Brandon, Douglas, but I don't know. I really don't know."
Sir Topham Hatt was making up his mind about which engine to send away, but that's another story.
