Thank you for all the favorites and reviews. I would like more of them! well I hope you like this chapter.

It had been ten years since Natsu's death and the pain of losing him was eating away at Zeref's heart, dragging him further into darkness and despair.

Everything Zeref tried to do to make his life happy again, failed. Each time Zeref tried to help someone or get close to anyone, ended in death and destruction. All the times that Zeref had tried to revive his brother, also failed. The R-System and the Eclipse Gate were Zeref's first tries and both might have worked, but they had a big problem he could not work around. The R-System, or the Tower of Heaven as people liked to call it, called for too many human souls, and Zeref did not want to kill any more people if he could help it. The Eclipse Gate needed the twelve Zodiac Keys which Zeref did not have nor knew how to acquire them. But Zeref did not lose hope - he had made a promise to himself and his little brother that he would find a way to bring him back to life.

Zeref was told, many times by the teachers at the Magic Academy, not to dwell on the matters of life and death. All the ideas and plans he came up with, were shot down by the teachers while they prayed for his soul. However, the day he was cursed by Ankhseram, still haunted him.

Zeref was working on the plans for the Eclipse Gate when one of his teachers walked into the room. He looked around in disappointment at the notes about life and death scattered on the floor; plans for magic items in order to revive the dead.

"Zeref." The man spoke, his voice hard and cold.

"Yes, sir?" Zeref replied, not turning his back to face his professor.

"Are you ignoring my commands? I told you to stop working on this Eclipse project."

"But the design is almost complete, and I figured out how to avoid the ethical dilemma… a door that takes us through time, backwards to the past." Zeref stated, still not turning to face his teacher, just continuing to scribble down his notes.

"But why return to the past? Is it all a part of your recurring focus of your work? I can only assume you are trying to bring your late brother back to life… despite our repeated warnings you remain obsessed with the dangerous idea of reviving the dead…" He paused but Zeref still did not turn around, "and because of this the board has decided to expel you." At this Zeref stopped in his work and faced his teacher, he eyes wide. "This was not an easy decision; we all had such high hopes for you." The man sighed.

"Not now, please, sir…" Zeref tried to plead, his eyes wide in confusion and hurt.

The man gave him a firm stare. "Your brother is never coming back… AND NOTHING YOU CAN DO WILL CHANGE THAT!" he shouted, and at those words the curse manifested, with Zeref panic and shock. Everything in the room began to die. Zeref reached out for help but his teacher fell lifelessly to the ground, and before Zeref knew it the lives of every teacher and student at the Academy had been snuffed out.

The Curse of Contradiction.

The more he valued life the more death surrounded him, and the only way to suppress it was to have no concern for life. This curse also stopped his process of ageing, dooming him to live forever. After what happened at the academy, Zeref was plagued by conflict and guilt for taking so many lives. But the fact that he could continue his studies forever pleased him greatly and in turn that joy disgusted him. And in that existential labyrinth he had come to the conclusion that his death would bring all this to an end.

After the third year alone, Zeref fell deeper into the darkness that had latched itself into his mind and heart. Also, in these years Zeref had become known as a powerful Dark Mage; he was responsible for killing millions of people; not his fault. Of course, no one knew that Zeref never wanted to kill anybody - all he wanted was to see his brother's smile again, but the magic counsel had all too quickly labeled him as a killer, and a dark mage without understanding the full story, not like they would listen to his story anyway. The council had sent hundreds of Rune Knights to try and capture or kill Zeref (which they preferred) but they all ended up dead due to Zeref's curse.

So, Zeref went into the most taboo of magic of all, which creates life. In the year X324 He brought demons into existence, in hopes they could kill him. In the future they would be known as the Demons from the books of Zeref - they were made of Ethernano, the building blocks of magic, so he called them Etherious. However, they were not powerful enough to end his life… If he could not bring his brother back to life then he would join him in death. Or at least, that was what he told himself, but in truth Zeref could not live with the curse anymore. He did not want to kill every living thing around him; he just didn't want to live any longer. All he wanted now was to die. Every demon he had created failed to kill him, now his only hope was his brother. He had thought that if he could die he would still be without his brother, he knew that his brother went to a much better place than Zeref was destined to go - if he were to die, that is. But of course, this world did not want Zeref to have that luxury of eternal sleep. And so, he began the creation of END, his strongest Etherious. A being of a human, a dragon and an Etherious that would bring about the end…

"Hey, Natsu… The Etherious project is underway… we will meet again soon… I promise, little brother." Zeref whispered, running his hand over the Eternano egg that kept his brother's body preserved all these years. Of course, Zeref did not get a response out of his brother, but sometimes Zeref thought he saw him move in the egg, although this time it did not happen.

Zeref sighed and walked over to a table in the middle of the room. The table had many books open to the page Zeref had left them, filled with notes and other papers shoved in between pages and scattered around the table, but one book was undisturbed. This book had a dark red cover with black flame markings around the edges and thick black letters that read END. Zeref picked up the book and flipped through the pages with gentle hands.

The past 58 years on his own, he had been looking for a way to resurrect his little brother. He had finally found a way to do that, and so, for the past two weeks Zeref had been writing in the book, putting more care and effort into creating this certain demon than any of his other demons. When he was done he looked to the little boy floating in the greenish blue Eternano.

"Natsu, you will soon wake from the sleep you have been trapped in." Zeref stated, placing the book down on the table. "Soon we'll be together again." Then blood-red glow filled the room emanating from the book that was shaking with power. Natsu's body began to move around in the Ethernano egg. The book flew off the table, shattering the glass that had held Zeref's little brother for the last six decades. The book then began merging with Natsu's body. When all that was done and the red light died down, Zeref ran to his brother's side, taking in his new appearance; Natsu's hair had turned a rosy pink color, he had two black horns rising above the pink locks, small black and red wings sprouting from his back, his ears were also pointed and he had a tail. Natsu did not look like his brother anymore but more like a demon, a monster.

"I'm sorry. I am so sorry…" Zeref cried, bringing his brother's body to his chest as he rocked back and forth, the curse activating in his pain. "I thought I could bring you back to life… What have I done? I am so sorry." He kept saying over and over, tears running down his face. Then Natsu started to wake up, stopping Zeref and his tears as the black magic faded.

He gasped. "… Na-Natsu." his voice was shaky as hope bloomed in his chest. He hoped it was his brother that he had revived, not some monster. Zeref was so happy when the horns and his demon features disappeared, but the pink hair stayed. Zeref thought Natsu looked more like their mother now. Zeref was even more overjoyed when his brother's eyes were filled with life once again, finally opened and focused on his black eyes. He had finally succeeded in bringing his beloved brother back to life.

"You are END; Etherious Natsu Dragneel. And I am your older Brother, Zeref Dragneel." He whispered to his younger brother.

X369 The birth of the Strongest Demon END

For the next 21-year Zeref and the young Natsu traveled together trying to stay one step head of the magic council both leaving much death and destruction in their wake.

Zeref's POV

For the first time in a while, I felt truly happy to be with my brother after so many years of failed attempts to revie him. but Natsu was never safe… I have to keep watch over him this time never leaving him out of my sight for those who would want to hurt him. Perhaps I should make an arrangement to spend as much time with him as he wanted from now on, I mused. There was also a dark feeling hanging around the back of my very being. I could hear voices saying that I would kill Natsu, that I would never be able to stop my curse. As these voices continued to grow, I couldn't help but feel that one of these days I would have to leave Natsu for good, out of fear that the voices could be right and I would take the very life I sacrificed so much to bring back. If Natsu were to die again there would be no hope for me anymore. That is, if there were any to begin with; if Natsu were to die again this world would not be able to handle my wrath. I was pulled out of my thoughts by Natsu pulling on my leg. I looked down to see the worried face of my little brother.

"Zeref, why do you look so sad?" Natsu asked. At first, I did not know how to answer; I couldn't just tell a young boy all my deepest feelings and worries. Sometimes I wish I could tell someone my fears but I did not want to burden Natsu with my pain. I am the older brother it is my job to protect him from the world.

"Everything is fine. You do not have to worry, Natsu." I replied. Of course, Natsu did not believe me but luckily, he let the subject drop. My brother had this weird ability to sense when I was feeling down or when I was lying, he also seemed to know at times what I was thinking about. And to tell the truth, sometimes it scared me.

Natsu and I continued to walk in relative silence, Natsu continued to act like a little kid. At times like this Natsu did not seem like a demon - he was a sweet innocent child. We had finally reached a town, I was somewhat hesitant to go into the town because I was afraid of the possibility of my curse killing the inhabitants. When I was about to tell Natsu that we should go around the town I saw I was too late to react as my idiot of a younger brother was already running down the hill into the town. I groaned and followed my brother.

Normal POV

"Will someone get me more ale!" a man with long black hair shouted while sitting at the bar and waiting for an empty cup to be filled.

"I think you have too much to drink." spoke the bartender. The man grumbled.

"A dragon slayer needs his strength if he is going to protect all of you from those monstrous dragons." Then laughter filled the bar.

"Dragons! I don't think you could kill a mouse with how much you drink!" The bartender laughed while filling up the dragon slayer's cup for the 50th time. Yes, he had counted. The dragon slayer just grumbled some more and focused on his beer.

"That looks good, can I have some?" A sudden voice spoke up, which made the drunken dragon slayer jump. He quickly turned around to see a small kid with pink hair and black eyes smiling up at him.

"What do you want, kid?"

"I want what you have. May I have a sip?" the kid answered.

"Sorry kid, you are too young to drink." said the bartender. The smile disappeared on the kid's face and was replaced by a deep frown.

"But-" he was cut off by another young man.

"Natsu, the man is right. You cannot drink alcohol because you might turn into someone like him." Zeref said pointing to the drunken dragon slayer.

"What is that supposed to mean?! There is nothing wrong with me!" the man shouted standing up from his seat.

Dragon slayers' POV

"You smell weird!" came the pink haired kid's innocent response. Not at all scared of my sudden action

"What do you mean by that?" I demanded. These two were starting to annoy me. Normally I would not hit a little kid but this one was really starting to piss me off. I raised my fist, ready to punch the kid but I stopped myself halfway through when I felt a very dark pressure filling up the room. I slowly turned in the direction the menacing feeling was coming from only to see the older boy with red eyes and a black aura surrounding him.

"You made my brother angry." Stated the little kid, he did not seem at all phased by the crushing Darkness. Only trying to reach my drink on the counter but was too short

"Don't you even think about hurting my brother." the black-haired boy hissed. I was frozen out of fear.

"U-u-um," that didn't come out right, I thought to myself. I was shaking so hard I didn't know what to think or say.

"Come on, Brother! I like this man-thing!" laughed the pink haired Brat. The dark pressure receded and my nerves seemed to calm down.

"What is your name?" the boy with the black hair asked.

"My name is Acnologia; I am the chaos dragon slayer," I stated full of pride but was quickly reduced when the pink-haired boy jumped on me yelling something about dragons.

Normal POV

It had been seven years since Acnologia had been with Zeref and Natsu and still in all that time Natsu still couldn't get his name right. Or looked like he aged much if at all in the time frame.

"My name is Acnologia!" he shouted but Natsu wasn't listening - he was just running around asking if Acnol-whatever your name is to fight him.

"No!" Acnologia groaned.

"Why not!?" Natsu pouted while crossing his arms.

"Because you'll kill me!"

"That's what makes it fun!" the little demon answered. Acnologia grumbled; for a while they were happy but that did not last long. The Magic Council had just found out about Natsu and they tried everything to capture the demon. They even burned down village after village looking for the Dragneel brothers. Blaming the countless deaths on the brothers.

Acnologia tried to protect them these two were his only friends either though the younger on annoyed him to no end always wanting to fight and play with his endless energy. One day they were risked staying in a small village. To stock up on supplies and rest after a week of traveling. That night however they were discovered.

They awoke to the screams as the small village was set ablaze. The magic council called this a cleansing because anyone that harbored the black mage and a demon were cursed and needed to die. Acnologia hated this and often tried to fight them off to give the brothers a chance to escape and tried to save as many of the villagers her he could. But like so many times before he would be over run and have to retreat because fighting Magic canceling mages and rune mages was always a pain.

"I'm scared," Natsu squeaked as Acnologia made it back to the two brothers he was bleeding and covered in ash. For the hundredth time they had to ran for their lives through the burning village they were staying at.

"How did they find us so fast?" Acnologia asked cursing himself for abandoning the fight again as he watched behind them for the intruders while running beside Zeref, who was carrying Natsu on his back.

"I do not know. Whatever happens, we need to keep Natsu away from them." Zeref breathed out, not the best went it came to physical activity.

"Why are they after me?" Natsu asked tiredly, and the dragon slayer and dark mage shared a look. "Is it because I am different?" Natsu asked again when they didn't answer.

"No, Natsu. That is not why they are after us." Zeref tried to explain but couldn't find the right words. Natsu looked down, defeated and tired.

"It is because you have power - so much power - that they are afraid of you. But all they want is to possess your power for themselves." Acnologia chimed in. Zeref gave him a grateful look but there was also worry in his eyes. Natsu did deserve to know why he was so afraid and why they were always being chased, why everyone one around them died.

"That's right, Natsu. People thirst for power - some do it to protect those that they hold dear and some…" he paused "… and some just want it to be above everyone else so they feel stronger while making others feel weak." Zeref explained. Natsu nodded, resting his head on Zeref's shoulder.

They made it out of the village when they thought they were safe they found themselves surrounded by the council knights they attacked, capturing Zeref and Natsu and they were both separated from Acnologia.

At the Magic Council headquarters

Zeref woke up feeling dazed; he tried to get up but noticed his hands and feet were chained to the white marble floor with magic canceling cuffs. Remembering what happened the night before, or at least he didn't think he was out for more than a day, he looked around in a panic for Natsu. Not seeing him anywhere, he tried to call out his name but found it was no use as the sound echoed in his white prison.

"You can scream all you like, Dark Wizard. That demon of yours can't hear you." Zeref froze; he did not see anyone in his cage but he did hear the voice sounding smug with their victory. When he did not answer back the voice sounded again.

"We are Magic Council and you, black wizard Zeref, are here for punishment. And I must say your… Demon has improved since the last time we saw him."

"What of my brother!?"

"That demon you call a brother has been killed." The Voice chuckled at Zeref's shocked face. Tears began to build up in Zeref's eyes, at the thought of his beloved brother's death, once again not being able to protect him. Grief and anger welled up. He could not hold back the amount of pain and sadness he felt for the loss of his brother a second time. His curse was unleashed into the pristine white cell, turning it an icky black color. Zeref screamed out his name over and over again, praying that it was not true. Hating how he was a horrible brother failing to protect his younger brother.

With Natsu

The magic council had Natsu on the other side of the compound; Natsu was restrained to a table just like the one he was strapped to before he died. Men in masks were trying to extract the curse power for their own use and curiosity, which made Natsu scream in pain, but no one seemed to care about the pain of a young child, after all. They did not care that Natsu was just a kid, all they saw was a demon - a monster. After a while, Natsu seemed to freeze, listening to something no one else could hear

"Brother!" Natsu shouted before his eyes turned red. The heat in the air began to rise to smoldering levels; the magic cancelling handcuffs and chains melted to the floor. The guards tried to capture Natsu again, but he was too fast for them. He charged through the line of guards. At first it did not seem that Natsu touched any of them but when Natsu reached the door all the guards fell to the floor, lifeless. Natsu blew the door open and ran in the direction of his brother's screams while killing anyone that got in his way. Reaching his brother's cell, he melted the door. Before he could go in, Zeref's curse then slammed into Natsu, sending him to the floor on its way out, filling the rest of the compound and killing everything in its path that wasn't already dead. But it did not harm Natsu. Getting back up onto his feet, he ran into the cell, looking for his brother. He found him chained to the floor, crying. That seemed to make Natsu's rage grow. Now he had fully transformed into his demon form.

"Zeref," Natsu called, walking up to his older brother.

"No, no, it can't be. Natsu is dead. I could not save him." Zeref cried. Natsu put his palms on Zeref's face, making Zeref face him.

"Brother, let's go home," Natsu spoke softly and then he broke the chains that held his brother.

"You're not dead?"

"Nope," Natsu stated, giving him his biggest smile while his demon features were disappearing.

X410 the dark guild Tartaros is officially formed

Zeref found himself distancing himself from his brother, trying to protect him from his curse that had only gotten worse. He feared that he might unwillingly kill his own brother again. he began droughting his ability to protect his brother. Zeref did not want to leave his brother alone ever again but he knew he couldn't stay by his brother's side so he left him in the care of Mard Geer and the rest of his demons. Natsu made them into a guild named Tartaros.

During this time the war between Dragons started. Because of how Zeref had brought Natsu back, he had a much slower growth rate than normal humans, therefore Natsu still retained his young appearance, now looking to be about 14. Still a child but the reputation of Zeref's strongest Demon became distorted as a monstrous most evil being the world had ever known.

"Mard Geer, when is Brother coming back?" Natsu asked bord out of his mind on his throne, his head resting on his fist.

"Master, Lord Zeref is very busy." Mard Geer stated. Natsu frowned.

"what exactly is keeping him so busy it has been 77 years since I have seen him last!" he screamed as small fires sprouted out of nowhere and the magic presser was steadily rising; many of the other demons ran in trying to calm their master when an all too familiar voice broke over the chaos.

"What is going on here?" The chaos seemed to halt almost immediately. The fires died and a smile appeared on Natsu's face.

"Brother!" Natsu yelled, running to his older brother. Zeref backed up, not wanting to accidentally hurt or even kill Natsu. But Natsu either did not feel Zeref's discomfort or just didn't care because he crashed into the dark mage with enough force to knock Zeref to the ground. Zeref held his eyes shut, waiting for the cries of pain of death from his little brother, but when he heard laughter instead he slowly opened his eyes to see an unharmed Natsu.

"You should see the look on your face!" Natsu stated in between laughs. Zeref regained his composure, glad that he did not harm his brother. He gave a soft smile.

"Alright, Natsu. Get off of me." Zeref said, pushing his brother off of him onto the hard floor.

"I missed you where have you been this whole time?" Natsu demanded acting like a small child.

"I have been away" Zeref answered.

"that isn't an awser I have been bord lets go on an adventure just like old times."

"No Natsu."

"why not?"

"because I said so."

"master we can have an adventure here." One of the demons suggested they also didn't like when their master went anywhere without them which frustrated the demon to no end.

"that's no fun come on brother."

"The world has become more dangerous with the war it isn't safe." Zeref stated. After a while of back-and-forth argument between them in which Natsu ended up winning because Zeref didn't want to see Natsu upset, so when he said yes that immediately cheered Natsu up. He was so happy that he got to go with Zeref to see the outside world for the first time in a while. Zeref was a little paranoid of people seeing him in public the council was still a threat and now with the war going on many would love for the chance to have the strongest demon's head on a platter. so Natsu did not go out as often as he'd liked. Natsu wasn't going to tell his brother about the times he often would seek out of his guild hall.

170 years later

X580

the Magic Council spread stories about Zeref and his strongest Demon END. In order to control the citizens, they used END as their scapegoats. Anything that went wrong, anyone that died or disappeared, any village that was wiped out was the work of the Demon END… as war continued to rage across the world.

"Already 280 years. Happy Birthday, Natsu." Zeref sighed, finally showing up once again. Natsu smiled.

"Thanks, Brother. But when you say that, being nearly 300 years old makes me sound old. Honestly, it doesn't seem like that much time has passed." Natsu stated thoughtfully. Now looking to be in his early to mid-teens, Where Zeref still hadn't aged a day.

"Well, Natsu, would you like to see your present?" Zeref asked, hoping he was doing the right thing. Natsu smiled and nodded but little did Natsu know this was when his world changed forever, and once again Natsu would be starting over with his life.

Later

"What have you done!" the red dragon demanded loudly.

"I had to. He is my brother." Zeref spoke, his face was blank.

"Your brother! That is your excuse for bringing him back from the Dead?" Igneel screamed.

"Yes."

"It has been over 200 years since his death and now you bring him to me? His death did not just hurt you… were you ever going to tell me that he was alive? That you were still alive?" the dragon asked, calming down a little.

"...No." came Zeref's muted reply. He looked up into the dragon's eyes. "Igneel, please. I am sorry for the pain I caused you, but I could not live without my brother."

"Yes, I can see that. You would rather have cursed yourself than learn how to cope with Natsu's death." Igneel snapped; Zeref looked down in shame. He did not like the idea of causing one of his only friend pain but for centuries he did not know how Igneel was going to take Natsu's resurrection, or that he had out lived any normal human lifespan.

"I'm sorry." Zeref whispered.

"Do not say sorry to me. You should be saying sorry to Natsu. You did not let him rest in peace - you had to curse him, too. He is now a demon. You put him in more danger now with all the damage you two have done with the human Council and the whole world." Zeref's mind went to their imprisonment all those years ago. Natsu had, once again, saved him. Natsu was always the one saving him, he had killed many members of the Council. He had done and seen things no child should, doing this caused great pain in Zeref's heart. Watching the kid with the brightest smile and so full of energy, kill. It hurt. He never wanted this, not for Natsu.

"I know... That is why I want you to take care of Natsu for me." Zeref stated after a few minutes of silence.

"TAKE CARE OF HIM! You want me to raise END because you can't do it yourself! END, the demon I tried to kill!" Igneel roared. He was angry, not just at Zeref but at himself, that he wasn't there to help Zeref with this loss. And now, seeing both of them cursed, he was angry that he could not have stopped it, and angry that he couldn't fix it now. He was especially angry that the demon he had been looking for and trying to kill for the last century or so, was in fact the boy he thought of as his own that he lost over 260 years ago.

"Yes..." Zeref's voice was a whisper, but with his sharp ears Igneel had caught it.

"... Fine, I will take him in. You are lucky I was going to take him in before he died… what are you going to do about his demonic powers?"

"I have already taken care of that; all of his demon powers have been sealed away in this book." Zeref explained while holding up the book of the END.

"And what of his memories?"

"They are also sealed inside." Zeref sighed, hoping he was doing the right thing for his brother.

"Very well. Where is my new son." Zeref gave the Dragon King a sad smile and walked into the forest. He came back out, carrying in his arms a sleeping Natsu that looked around 2-3, much younger than the age he was when he died.

"I thought he had black hair," Igneel stated while looking at the sleeping child, trying to see the demon in him but he looked human. He had no horns nor wings, and his skin was clear of the black markings. He looked exactly like he did centuries ago but with pink hair and younger.

"He did... It is a side effect to becoming a demon." Igneel nodded and took the boy from Zeref's arms this his tail. Zeref almost changed his mind about giving up his little brother but he knew that this was for the best. Igneel could take care of Natsu better then he ever could.

"After I took away his demon side, he turned back to a younger age than he was when he died. All of his pain is gone. He won't even remember having lost his memory. He is a blank slate for you to raise and train." Zeref stated, giving one last look at his little brother and then disappeared into the forest.

For two months after Zeref gave up Natsu to become a dragon slayer, he had watched over his beloved little brother from afar.

One day Zeref watched as Natsu was walking in the forest alone. He was crying. Zeref's heart hurt. He wanted to run to his brother's side and tell him that everything was going to be alright, but he stopped himself.

"Why am I crying?" Natsu sobbed. "Why do I feel empty inside, like I am missing something?" Zeref's eyes widened. 'Is he crying because he misses me but he does not remember me?'

Zeref's eyes then softened. 'It's okay. You're crying, and you don't know why. It's alright if you never remember me. If you kill me, think of me as the enemy. That's what I am, right? So, it's okay. Don't worry, Natsu. I won't ever hate you. I'll keep you safe. I'll always love you. I'll always love my little brother.' Zeref thought as he disappeared into the forest, not to lay eyes on his brother for many, many years.

Natsu, not remembering anything before he met Igneel for the second time, began to live his life without pain and fear. He got to play and live with his father. He was very happy and content, but that, too, was taken away from him the year X777.

With Zeref somewhere, sometime…

He had met with Mavis and the founders of Fairy tail; he taught them Magic and set the seeds that soon grew to be the number one Guild in Fiora. After he left, Mavis had later found out that she also suffered from the same curse as Zeref, and then his curse took her away. He was again brought into further Darkness. He had lost his family; his brother and the woman he loved. His curse continued to corrupt him for another 100 years.

"I'm so sorry, Natsu. I couldn't save you. I couldn't help you. It was my entire fault. I should have protected you. I'm your big brother. I promised that I would keep you safe and never hurt you. What did I do… I let you die then turned you into a demon? I'm so sorry. And I know you can't forgive me. I wish you could remember. But I'll still be your big brother. I'll still love you and protect you. Even if you hate me. Even if you can't remember who I am." Zeref spoke to himself. He knew what the future would hold for Natsu. One day Natsu would be strong enough to kill him, all he had to do was wait.

"I will wait until you can kill me and end my curse."

It was revealed that over 400 years ago, Zeref obtained the curse of contradiction by the God Ankhseram. Since then, he was immortal. Also, it was said the more he held life dear, the more he would steal it away. Later, it was found out that Mavis obtained that curse as well and when they finally decided to walk hand in hand, Mavis was killed by Zeref's love for her. This had proven that, despite the curse and immortality, they could still die. That's why it was believed that there was a way for Zeref to die. That was why he came up with the idea of having END kill him. It was believed that the curse itself could kill him like it did with Mavis. Since the curse was about contradiction, it would mean that he had to think about the opposite of wanting to die and that was something Zeref could never do. He was probably blaming himself, thus having the curse NOT kill him. The day he finally comes to love himself and decides that he wants to live (probably because of Natsu); he would die and be free, together with Mavis.

Ok, that was a long chapter. I hope you enjoyed it. Because that was mostly it for the flashbacks in this story. I honestly did not know how to end this chapter so I hope it wasn't too confusing as I tried to do an overview of 400+ years. If you would like more Back stories let me know and, in some chapters, I can do flashbacks or little stories. Thank you for reading!
