Beginning Notes: SO, I ended up writing and posting this fic last year from like March all the way up until November (I think), it had about 14(?) chapters to it before I decided to delete it ('cause it went WAY off the rails at the end) and rewrite it. Well, let's just say that other fics took my attention into a stranglehold so I kind of put this off 'til just now. Anyhow, I am mildly editing most of the chapters and will completely rewrite the fourteenth chapter because holy moly was it a train wreck (in my own humble opinion).
Now that that rant is out of the way I hope (gosh I hope) you all will enjoy my fic as much as I enjoy writing it!
Wakko woke up screaming. He couldn't help it. He had had a terrible dream involving being stranded on an island with no food. If there was one thing that he truly feared, it was not having any food around.
As Wakko was about to roll over to fall asleep again; his younger sister, Dot, decided at that very moment to climb up the ladder on their triple bunk and jump into his bunk.
"Hey Wakko, whatcha screaming about?" Dot asked, poking him in the side.
Wakko rolled back around to face his sister. "Oh it was horrible. I had a nightmare that I was on an island with no food!"
Dot shook her head while trying to stifle a laugh. "Oh it's always food with you, huh?"
Wakko couldn't help but start giggling which then made Dot start giggling as well.
"Oh! I came to tell you, we have an interview with Catherine O'Thorn at 2:00 today," Dot said, staring up at the ceiling.
Wakko sat up.
"Since when did we have an interview today?"
Dot sighed, "They called earlier this morning." She rolled her eyes. "Ugh, don't they understand the importance of beauty sleep?"
As Wakko and Dot climbed down the triple bunk ladder a sick feeling began to creep its way into his stomach.
The sick feeling continued to grow as they made their way to the kitchen where Yakko was preparing breakfast.
"Good morning Wakkoreno, hey what'd ya dream about this time?"
Wakko was about to repeat the nightmare to Yakko when the sick feeling in his stomach came to a boiling point.
"I'll be back!" Wakko yelled while running towards the bathroom. He felt as if he had swallowed a fireball and it was now trying to slide its way back up.
Wakko flung himself headfirst into the toilet hoping to throw up whatever it was that was making him ill. After emptying the sick feeling from his stomach he slid to the floor, feeling strangely and completely exhausted.
"Guess you won't be going to that interview after all?" A soft voice asked.
Wakko glanced up just in time to see that Yakko was standing in the doorway with his arms loosely crossed and staring down at Wakko with a look of concern.
Wakko tried to get up only to fall back down again. Why was he so weak all of a sudden?
"Would ya like some help?" Yakko asked, concern evident in his gaze and his voice.
Wakko briefly debated with himself before giving into his older brother's offer.
"Please?" he asked, in a tiny voice.
It seemed that even talking was suddenly a huge effort to him.
So Yakko scooped Wakko up into his arms and carried him bridal style to their triple bunk bed.
"I'll let ya sleep in my bunk, how's that sound," Yakko said as he gently lowered Wakko into the bottom bunk.
Wakko nodded fervently, grateful to be sleeping in Yakko's bunk as it was honestly the softest one out of the three siblings' bunks.
"Try to get some sleep Wak, 'kay?"
The last thing that Wakko saw before he fell asleep was Yakko smiling softly at him. Gazing at him as if he were the most wonderful thing in the entire world.
About an hour later Wakko woke up, this time it was a normal awakening. He had had a dreamless sleep which slightly disappointed him but oh well, it was better than suffering through another nightmare.
While Wakko was stretching out his limbs he couldn't help but notice how unusually quiet it was inside of the water tower. Then he suddenly remembered the interview that Dot had mentioned to him.
Which meant that they must've already left!
Wakko jumped up out of the bed and charged his way to the main door where he discovered a note attached to it.
Dear Wakko, Hope you slept well. Dot and I decided to go to the interview without ya seeing as you were all sick 'n stuff. If ya wake up in enough time and want to watch it just check channel 2. Also, I made some homemade chicken noodle soup, it's in the fridge. We'll come home right after the interview, scout's honor. If you're feeling up to it later we could watch Dirty Dancing or Ghost 'cause you love Patrick Swayze. (Don't think I don't know! Blame it on sibling intuition, baby bro!)
Oh, yeah, by the way I love you.
Stay safe.
~ Yakko
Wakko decided to stick the note on his forehead because why not and proceeded to find the chicken noodle soup in the fridge. It was still warm to the touch so he took a guess that Yakko and Dot had left not too long ago.
Once Wakko gathered everything that he needed he plopped down onto the couch, picked up the remote, and turned the TV on. The first thing that popped up was Robin Hood: Men In Tights. Wakko rolled his eyes as he switched the channel.
It must've been Dot who was watching that movie. She could deny it all she wanted to but it was pretty clear that she had a thing for Cary Elwes which spurred after she watched The Princess Bride.
After what seemed like ages he finally landed on Channel 2. Wakko almost dropped his chicken noodle soup in surprise seeing as how Dot was being interviewed first. Normally it was Yakko as he was the oldest.
Dot was sitting on a wooden stool across from a lady that was wearing an absurd amount of red. Red shirt, red pants, red shoes, and even red hair. Wakko guessed that the lady in red must've been Catherine O'Thorn.
Catherine cleared her throat loud and clear before speaking. "So, Dot. How do you feel about your brothers?"
Wakko stared at the TV in surprise. That was a question that very few interviewers ever asked them. The questions were normally as follows: Do you like acting, do you like who you work with, what's the most embarrassing thing that's happened on set, etc. etc.
So it definitely threw him for a loop and, surprisingly, made him relax just a bit. No more stupid, boring questions. Finally!
Dot glanced down at her feet before seemingly dragging her gaze back up to Catherine. "What's there to say really? I love them both."
A warm loving feeling enveloped Wakko's heart upon hearing his sister's words.
"Hmmm...okay. So you don't have a favorite brother? You love them both equally?" Catherine asked, picking at a thread that was sticking out of her sleeve. It didn't seem like she was really interested in what Dot had to say.
Wakko wasn't sure how to feel about that.
"Weeeell…I guess if I had to pick a favorite it would be Yakko."
Suddenly that warm, loving feel in Wakko's chest turned cold. Had Dot really said that Yakko was her favorite sibling?
Catherine nodded. "From what you've told me, it seems reasonable that he's your favorite. Thank you Dot Warner for coming and talking with me. I wish we had more time but alas."
From what you've told me, it seems reasonable….What does she mean by that? Wakko wondered to himself.
Some deep, dark, horrible emotion twisted his heart at that thought.
Wakko swallowed hard, trying to will that emotion to go away. He didn't want that negativity. Didn't need it.
They were getting ready for the next interviewee which would end up most likely being Yakko and while that was going on Wakko stared at the TV with that heavy twist still residing in his chest. Had Dot really meant what she said or was she just saying that to make the lady in red happy?
He hoped it was the second thing.
He really, truly hoped.
Wakko put the soup away right before Yakko appeared on the TV and sat down on the same stool that Dot had previously occupied.
"Ah, Yakko, it's good to finally meet you. How are you?" Catherine asked, smiling widely and a tad bit creepily.
Thankfully, Yakko didn't seem to notice as he replied goodnaturedly with, "It's good to finally meet ya as well Cath. I'm doin' good."
"You probably heard me asking your sister this question but um, how do you feel about your siblings?"
Yakko gave a light-hearted shrug before answering. "I love 'em both."
"So you don't have a favorite?"
Yakko hunched over in his seat a little bit.
Was it just the lighting or did his brother's eyes seem heavy and half-lidded? Wakko swallowed hard as he realized that Dot had seemed that way too. He tried to assure himself that they were probably just tired but…was the answer really that simple?
"I might." Yakko murmured.
Catherine leaned forward. "You might?"
"It's Dot. She's my favorite."
Catherine tilted her head as she leaned back into her seat. "I'm just curious here. Why is Dot your favorite sibling and not, um, who was the other one?"
Yakko hunched further into himself. "Look, the reason why I think that Dot is my favorite sibling instead of Wakko is because...well...y'see."
Wakko stared at the TV with bated breath. This is it. He needed to know why Yakko loved Dot more than him. Maybe once he knew the reason he could fix it and then Yakko would finally love him more.
"It's just that Dot doesn't really cry a whole lot. She's not so... emotional I guess is the right word."
It suddenly felt as if somebody had taken a knife and stabbed him in the heart. Wakko couldn't believe it. Yakko loved Dot more than him and that he was too emotional for him.
Wakko clutched his sweater tightly in his fist and decided to make a promise to himself right then and there that he wouldn't cry or be emotional for an entire week. Once the week was over, hopefully Yakko and Dot would change their minds. If not, he'd do it for another week, or two weeks, or however many weeks it would take just to get their affection back.
End Notes: From the bottom of my heart: my bad. I wrote another Wakko Warner-centric angst fic.
I love him so much yet at the same time put him through hell. Oops.
Next up, we have Yakko and Dot coming back home and finding their brother to be acting rather...spiky.
Let me know what you all thought in the comments, please!
