Notes: In which Yakko is supremely worried for everything - especially his baby bro. Wakko is straight up not having a good time at all. and Dot - well she's doin' okay (for now).
Yakko and Dot were walking home from the news station where they had just had an interview with Catherine O'Thorn or as Dot had nicknamed her; the Lady in Red.
"Do you remember anything that happened during the interview?" Yakko asked, hoping that Dot remembered. Because if she remembered, then that would be odd and something that he would have to get himself checked out by a Toon doctor. Or if she didn't remember then that would mean they would both be in the same boat and that just wasn't good for his budding anxiety.
Dot paused what she was doing, a sudden concentrated look on her face as she thought. After a moment or two she shook her head no.
"Do you remember?" she asked, staring up at him with concern.
Yakko stopped walking, stunned. As he tried to rack his brain he began to feel ill when he tried to remember what had gone on during the interview. Yakko eventually snapped out of it when he noticed Dot giving him a sick look.
"Are you all right?" He drew closer to her and put a comforting hand on her shoulder. "You look kinda sick, sister sib."
Yakko hoped that Wakko hadn't given them his stomach virus just yet.
(Whenever he thought of Wakko he would get this pin prick of guilt in his heart, as if he
had said something about his baby bro without meaning to. It was odd and it was yet
another tally in the things that made Yakko Warner anxious count.)
Dot shook her head. "I feel kinda sick when I try to remember the interview." Then she added, "Is that weird or what?"
Uh oh .
This wasn't good. What were the odds of both of them not remembering what went down during the interview?
Yakko sucked in a breath before letting it out slowly through his nose. He tried desperately to calm down his budding anxiety. There had to be a (somewhat) logical explanation for this. There just had to be.
"So, uhhhhhh, neither of us can remember the interview? We'll just have to go home and ask Wakko." Yakko chuckled nervously. He didn't even know if Wakko watched the interview. For all he knew Wakko could have still been asleep or could have been too preoccupied with throwing his guts up to have watched it.
There went another pin prick of guilt as Yakko thought of his poor, sick baby bro. Seriously, why had he left him behind? That stupid interview could've waited but…he had went anyways. Something about that just didn't sit right with him.
Yakko shook his head, dislodging those poisonous thoughts. He quickly decided thst they would just have to go home and see.
So Yakko and Dot decided to continue their way home to the water tower; this time going at a quicker pace. By the time they reached the gate they were both running, seeing who could get to the door first. Yakko was beginning to silently panic and hoped that Wakko had an answer that could assuage his budding fears.
Dot ended up winning the race by just a toe. She opened up the door and practically leapt inside. Yakko followed her inside and closed the door behind them. Everything seemed normal, like how it had been before they left. The only difference being that the TV was now on.
Dot went over to see what was on while Yakko went to his bunk to check on Wakko. He hoped that he was awake.
Nope.
Wakko was fast asleep, curled up under Yakko's big faux fur lavender blanket.
As Yakko stared down at the sleeping figure of his baby bro, a strong sense of love overcame him. He loved Wakko and Dot equally. A lot of fans assumed that he favored Dot but that wasn't true, at all. Yakko didn't love either sibling more than the other. He never picked favorites.
Despite the show trying to make it
Yakko shook his head to clear his thoughts. He needed to ask Wakko about the interview. Not stand there like a total weirdo staring at him while he slept.
He reached out and gently pushed on Wakko's shoulder to see if he was in light or deep sleep. The answer to that was a loud snore. Deep sleep it was. So Yakko decided to push on Wakko's shoulder a little harder. That didn't work either.
Yakko sighed and decided to shove Wakko in the shoulder this time. That woke him up.
Wakko grumbled and growled while turning the other way to face his older brother.
"Who disturbs m'slumber?" he mumbled while stretching out his limbs.
Yakko chuckled. "I did, sleeping beauty."
Wakko rolled his eyes at his brother's nickname for him.
"Why'd you wake me up for?"
"Well, Wak," Yakko began, "Dot and I were hoping that you knew what happened during the interview?"
Was the light playing tricks on him or did Wakko look shocked for a second? No, no it couldn't be that. Why would Wakko need to be so shocked? It was just a simple question really.
"Uhhh, no, I don'. I've been asleep since you two left. Sorry." Wakko was looking up at Yakko with what was definitely worry on his face.
Yakko's heart twisted in his chest upon seeing that. Why was his baby bro so worried? Had he really said something bad about him without knowing?
"Ya sure you didn't watch the interview? 'Cause the TV's on and it definitely wasn't when Dot and I left." Yakko couldn't help but begin to feel suspicious. Why was Wakko looking so worried?
"Okay, I watched TV. So what? I didn't watch the interview okay so stop - !" Wakko's eyes widened cartoonishly and without any warning he jumped out of the bunk and raced off to the bathroom. At the same time shoving Yakko aside.
Yakko landed on his butt absolutely stunned by what had just happened. Wait what had just happened? Was Wakko about to throw up or was he going to lock himself in the bathroom to prevent him from continuing to question him?
There was only one way to find out. He slowly walked to the bathroom and knocked on the door.
"Uhh, Wakko are you okay in there?" he called, letting concern seep into his voice.
The sound of vomiting was the answer to his question.
The last time that Wakko had vomited he had been too weak to get up off the floor. Yakko wondered if he would have to pick him up again once he was done, because he would do it. He'd do whatever Wakko asked him to.
"Say uhhhhh, do ya need me to pick you up again when you're done?"
"No, I'm okay." Wakko replied, despite the clear pain in his voice.
Wakko sounded like he was in a lot of pain which made Yakko start to worry. Why was his brother lying to him all of a sudden? Had something happened while him and Dot were gone? Had he really said something bad during the interview?
Yakko decided the best thing to do was to sit outside of the bathroom and just talk to Wakko. See if he could weasel the truth out of him.
With a huff, Yakko slid down to the cold floor and sat with his back to the door.
"So ya said that you were watching TV after Dot and I left?" Yakko said, tapping on his knee. "What were you watching?"
It took a minute or two but Wakko eventually responded. "I was watching Honey, I Shrunk the Kids ."
Yakko mulled the answer over in his head for a while. He hoped that what Wakko had said was the truth. But, then, why was he so suspicious of his own brother lying to him? It didn't make a lick of sense but he couldn't shake the feeling away no matter how hard he tried.
"Any more questions?" Wakko asked, snark evident in his tone.
That did it. There was something that was obviously bothering his baby bro whether he wanted to admit it or not. Yakko promised himself that he was going to find out, no matter what.
"You've been awfully rude to me since you woke up." Yakko replied. "Are ya sure that nothing's bothering you?"
Because if there is…then just say it. Let me help you.
"Yeah, you're botherin' me!" Wakko snapped. "Just leave me alone, I feel awful…"
Yakko sighed, he couldn't believe his own brother was pushing him away. Something had to have happened when he and Dot left. There was no other explanation for why Wakko's behavior had changed so drastically. He was about to ask him if he was still okay when Dot came running over to him.
"Oh, Yakko, you won't believe what movie is on! You gotta watch it with me!" Dot squealed, jumping up and down in visible excitement.
"All right, Dot, what movie is on?"
Yakko suspected that he already knew the answer but he wanted Dot to tell him anyway.
"It's Lethal Weapon, Yakko! Lethal Weapon. You have to watch it with me, please!" Dot grabbed Yakko's arm and was trying to get him to stand up. He couldn't help but chuckle at his sister's excitement.
He decided that the best thing to do for now was to watch Lethal Weapon with Dot. Eventually Wakko would come out of the bathroom and when he did Yakko was going to find out what happened.
No matter what.
So Yakko let Dot lead him over to the couch where on the TV was playing Lethal Weapon . It was the scene where Riggs and Murtaugh had just met and things were already rocky between the two.
Yakko could practically feel Dot trembling with excitement as she pressed close, clutching onto his arm. Her fur was bristling and her eyes had a kind of light in them that couldn't be snuffed out in the moment.
After a while of watching the movie, Yakko began to feel guilt gnawing at his heart. Had he done the right thing? Leaving Wakko behind like that? Maybe he was still sick and needed help.
Well, there was really only one option for him.
Yakko got up off the couch despite Dot's excited squeals of him needing to watch the movie.
"I'll be back," he said, trying to mimic The Terminator .
Dot let out a giggle before turning her attention back onto the TV.
With that being over and done, Yakko made his way to the bathroom. Intent on checking his baby bro.
No matter what happened and no matter what Wakko would say, Yakko was going to get through to him; one way or another.
End Notes: Next up we have a sick and angry Wakko who is still straight up not having a good time.
Oops, again, my bad.
Poor little guy needs a hug but uh, he ain't letting anybody touch him, yet.
