The First Day
"Today," said Dumbledore, smiling widely as he spread his arms, "Hogwarts will be accepting a new student who has recently moved here from America and will be joining us tonight." The Great Hall was awash with excited murmuring. A New student? So that was why there had been a feast prepared in the middle of November.
"I hope he's dreamy," Lavendre Brown whispered to Pavarti while Hermione rolled her eyes. The muttering ceased as Dumbledore continued, "Ah. I think she'll be arriving just about n-"
The doors to the Great Hall burst open and a lithe girl strode in. She was wearing the standard Hogwarts uniform, a little badge pinned to her tie bearing the American flag was the only difference. She had silky red hair and stormy grey eyes. All the boys were staring while the girls look disappointed. All eyes were on her as Mgonagall brought the Sorting Hat and the stool normally used for first years, but she was far too old for a first year, she was 15 at the youngest. The girl sat down and put the hat over her head and the Hall held its breath. Harry noticed Malfoy starring at her hard.
The hat was taking a long time. After nearly 5 minutes it finally yelled RAVENCLAW and the table at the far end burst into applause while Malfoy looked bitterly disappointed.
"So what's your name?" asked Terry Boot as the girl sat down next to him.
"Aria Stormcrow," she said as she shook his hand "I'm in sixth year, I've already done the other 5 at my old school in the States."
"Really, what was it like?" asked a dark haired girl "I'm Padma Patil, by the way. Welcome to Ravenclaw."
"I miss it" said Aria in reply to Padma "but mom says its no use whining about it, so I guess I'll just have to like hogwarts."
"Oh, you'll love it" said "Padma "Its really great. Just watch out for the Slytherins and you'll be fine." The rest of the table laughed but Aria didn't get it. "Slytherins?" she asked "Yes, they're the ones in green and silver," said Terry as he pointed him out "Professor Snape" he indicated a greasy hooknosed man at the tachers table who loked very cross indeed "is their head of house and he teaches potions, he's terribly biased so don't worry if he doesn't like you, he doesn't like anyone."
"Should I be worried if he does like me?" she jokingly asked and they laughed.
A very short man waddled over to them and handed Aria a piece of paper interrupting their conversation. "You're timetable," he explained amiling up at her "I'm Professor Flitwick your head of house, if you have any problems please come and see me."
"Thank you professor" she said taking it from him and examining it. Divination was the first lesson tomorrow. She couldn't wait, she'd loved Divination back in the Salem Academy.
Eventually dinner was over and Aria was very full and sleepy as she followed the rest of the Ravenclaws up to their dormitories.
"Horntail spines" said Padma to the portrait of a regal looking wizard who was holding a falcon on his arm. The door swung open and Aria climbed in with the rest of them and went with Padma to the girl's dormitory.
"Night Padma" she muttered sleepily as she greatfully setteled down in her wonderfully comfortable bed.
"Night Aria" was the almost indistinct reply as they both drifted off to sleep, Aria wondering what was in store for her tomorrow.
