Chapter 4: A Step Closer

Ginny was furious.

That might not even be the best words to describe her righteous anger. No. Fury would be a better word. She had passed the line over to fury about thirty minutes ago. How dare her family and the self proclaimed‒ at least in Ginny's opinion‒ blame the entirety of the monstrosities from last year on her? She was to blame for the majority, but how did Albus bloody Dumbledore not piece together the clues like three twelve-year-olds? It was just outrageous.

And now, the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back, was Ginny being forced to stay at Aunt Muriel's all summer while her family forgot about her in Romania. What the bloody hell! Ginny refused to see the sense in everything. She thought family was supposed to love you no matter what. No matter how much you had disappointed them. Ginny decided she was wrong, and from that day on, she would become self reliant. Not because she was rebellious, but because she had to.

The next morning Ginny was unceremoniously told to go to her aunt's house at Number 23 Fairbank Lane. Despite her reluctance, Ginny was glad her aunt lived on the outskirts of the city where each property had roughly two acres of land. It was much better than the road nearby, Grimmauld Place. It was extremely medieval over there.

On Ginny's last trip upstairs to collect her final belongings, she saw an owl racing towards her window. The few seconds she waited for the owl shouldn't enrage her mother that much. Once the owl got closer, Ginny opened her window and recognized the owl. Harry had actually written her back! She might have a chance of redemption. She collected the letter quickly, apologising for her lack of attention and owl treats, and asked Hedwig to meet her at Aunt Muriels. Then, Ginny rapidly hid her letter and ran into the flow. Seconds later, she was at Aunt Muriel's, who swiftly told Ginny to stay out of her way and not touch anything before leaving for some supposed "upper esolance" get together. Ginny, of course, rolled her eyes at her aunt's pompous attitude.

It sure was looking to be a great summer.

One hour later, Ginny finally lugged all her furniture up to her bedroom. It was hard work considering the house was three stories and her room was in the attic. It wasn't that Ginny disliked the attic. It was fairly large and private, but it would have been nice to be able to stay in one of the multiple guest bedrooms. Aunt Muriel, however, refused to believe that any child, especially one related to Fred and George, would be able to withstand destroying her oh so precious furniture.

Ginny sat down on her small bed and finally was able to read her letter to Harry. On the envelope, it said For Ginny's Eyes Only which intrigued Ginny even more. She was preparing for the very worst but was pleasantly surprised by the start of the letter. It said:

Hey Ginny,

I just wanted to let you know that I received your letter. I completely understand. You were right. We both have been through a lot that either no one has gone through or the adults refuse to except that we were changed. I'm here if you need me, and I was wondering if I can talk things out with you too. I think you're one of the few who can empathize with me.

You should hear this soon, but I have figured out how to get away from the Dursleys. I think I will be happier where I am. I can't tell you because even though I trust you, I don't think I should write this information down. Hope you understand.

Also, in Ron's letters it sounds like your family is blaming you for the Chamber. How stupid is that? You are one tough person to resist Voldemort for that long. I don't think anyone else could do that, especially at 11. I'm here for you.

And Ginny, we are friends. I know you may not like my reference to the Chamber, but how could we not be after last year. It's way worse than a stupid troll. Feel free to write to me.

You are not alone.

Your Friend,

Harry

Ginny was flabbergasted to say the least. This letter was beyond her expectations. She could not believe it. She might still have a friend. And of course Harry could talk to her! That is how a healthy friendship works after all!

As Ginny sat down to respond to Harry and Harry sat overlooking the Meditteranean Sea, both pre-teens decided that they would overcome the obstacles from wherever they came from. They were both strong and they would both fight.

They subconsciously recognized that they would have to fight to survive. No matter the odds or the trials, they were determined to come out on top. They would win because if Harry and Ginny weren't anything else, they were fighters.

After all, they were one step closer to following the right path.

Hi! Sorry that it has been so long, but for some reason I got it in my head that since I have literally 0 dating experience that I shouldn't write this. Now I'm super bored so we're back! Weird thing is I don't even remember writing this… Oh well!

This will be the last chapter that is mainly just setting the foundation. The build of a friendship will be next along with some training. That means longer and more action filled - whether romantic or actual action - chapters are coming up. Finally!

Also, what do y'all prefer: more chapters or longer chapters? remember how it'll affect the upload time.

Furthermore, I am going to make Harry and Ginny become friends quickly but build their romantic relationship slowly and with a very sturdy foundation in friendship. Who doesn't love some good angst?

Send suggestions. I'm winging this!

Good luck reading! ~SS
