Jackie woke up the next day with one of the worst headaches she'd had in a while. She went to the kitchen, to look for some aspirin and something to eat, when she noticed a huge floral arrangement. She ran to it searching for a card. Fez walked in watching her and finally offered, "The note is on the counter." Jackie squealed happily and went to grab it. "Who are Liz and Leif my goddess?" Jackie looked at her best friend, slightly annoyed that he'd read her messages but not angry enough to care. She was far too excited to be upset by something so small. "They are a brother and sister who own Glamour. I met them last night when I went out to dance. Liz and I talked about fashion and all the latest trends. We did that for a few hours then her brother Leif showed up. Oh my God Fez this man is so handsome. I've never seen a man as handsome as him." Jackie gushed. "Oh! and Liz gave me a new job as her personal assistant. We hit it off so well she thought I'd be a good fit for the position. I'm basically going shopping for Liz while she's at work." said Jackie. She left out the part about getting a new apartment and moving away. She hadn't even seen the apartment yet, no use in worrying Fez about it right now.
"That evening Jackie entered the club excited about her new job. She couldn't wait to hear the details of being a personal assistant. Liz seemed like such a fun person and her fashion sense was amazing! She was led to a back office by one of the largest men she's ever seen, and she sat and waited for Liz to make her It wasn't too long of a wait when Liz came in with a stack of papers. "Jacqueline, so good to see you again." Liz greeted. Jackie stood to return the "It's great seeing you too." they exchanged pleasantries and shared some small talk; Liz finally motioned to the stack of papers and decided it was time to get down to business. "Ok, so here is your work contract. It states what your duties are and what your salary is going to be. It also talks about bonuses and any work-related trips you might need to take. Your position also comes with an apartment in a building my brother and I own here in Kenosha. You'd live there rent free as long as you work for me." Jackie was looking over her contract and she couldn't believe the benefits this job offered. She was trying to act unaffected but inside she was jumping up and down with excitement. "Everything looks great" she commented. She began signing the papers while trying to steady her shaking hand. "Jacqueline, " Liz said getting Jackie's attention and making eye contact. Liz began her glamour letting Jackie know her self-worth and that she shouldn't let anyone dictate how she lives her life. Liz finished her glamour and began speaking again. "When do you think you'll be able to move in? I can give you a tour of the apartment tonight if you're available." Jackie shook her head; she must be too excited because she blanked for a moment. "I'm available tonight for a tour." Jackie agreed happily. "Fantastic, let me grab my purse and I'll let the boys in security know I'll be out for a bit." said Liz.
Jackie followed Liz out to her car. Liz had insisted on driving. Jackie was surprised to see that Liz drove a 1979 Ford van. "You drive a van?" asked Jackie. "Yes, it's the only vehicle that can hold all my shopping bags." Liz said while smiling. Jackie laughed and agreed that she saw the appeal. They pulled into one of the fanciest apartment buildings Jackie had ever seen. I'm going to live here? She thought excitedly. Liz spoke to the doorman and introduced him to Jackie letting him know that she'd be moving in soon. Jackie greeted him and let him know it was a pleasure to make his acquaintance. They continued inside and took the elevator to the 12th floor. There were 15 floors in this building it seemed. The elevator doors opened and there seemed to only be a hallway with a single door. This confused Jackie. Liz opened the door and led Jackie inside. It was the most gorgeous apartment. Jackie couldn't believe she'd be living here. "Are there any other apartments on this floor?" asked Jackie. "No, from here to the 15th floor it's all single apartments." Jackie nodded in understanding, excited to not have neighbors after dealing with Fenton and the rest of the people at her other apartment. "You can move in whenever you're ready." began Liz. "There's some furniture here already, you can either keep it or we can put it into storage. Whichever you choose." "I think I'll keep it for now, I don't have much of my own furniture and I refuse to use anything that belonged to my mother." Liz nodded in understanding. "Well, here are the keys. Here's the phone number to the front desk if you need help with anything. There's a phone already connected; I'll give you that number as well. That should be it. All that's left is for you to move in officially. " Jackie unable to control herself any longer squealed with excitement and ran to hug Liz. Liz not being used to affection from humans was a bit stiff at first but then relaxed and melted into the hug with her new friend.
"Once Jackie got back home, she called up Brooke and Michael and had them come over so she could tell them her big news. Michael and Brooke made their way to Jackie and Fez's apartment. Jackie had said she had some big news to tell them and that'd she'd order pizza for dinner. Michael brought the birthday gift he had bought for Jackie with him, he hadn't gotten a chance to give it to her the day before. They knocked on the door and Jackie answered with a huge smile on her face. Michael hadn't seen her smile like that in months, he didn't know what her news was but if that's how she'd be because of it then he knew he was already happy for her. Jackie greeted the couple and took her goddaughter from Brooke. Jackie cooed at Betsey, letting her know how cute she was. Michael was glad he had chosen Jackie as godmother and was beginning to regret choosing Hyde as godfather. Jackie always asked about Betsey, how she was doing, if she's done anything new or said any new words. Hyde barely remembers that Betsey exists. He wondered if he could change godfathers, was that allowed? He'd ask Brooke later, she was so smart, she'd probably know the answer to that.
Fez greeted Michael and Brooke, mentioned how beautiful the couple was and led them to the table to eat. As they each got a slice of pizza, Jackie started telling them about her new job and the benefits that came with it. Including a new huge apartment in Kenosha. Michael jumped up and hugged Jackie, "Congratulations sweet pea!" Brooke followed him and hugged her friend and offered her congratulations as well. Jackie went into detail about everything. How she met Liz, how handsome Leif was, what the apartment looked like, what her duties were going to be. They spent the night talking and planning to help Jackie move this upcoming weekend, spending Saturday night at Glamour and meeting her new boss, Liz. For the first time in a long time Jackie was excited for the weekend.
Saturday came, the group of four spent the day moving boxes from one apartment to another. Everyone was very impressed with Jackie's new apartment. They had all brought a change of clothing with them so they could get ready there and leave for the club. Brooke's mom took Betsey for the night so they had nothing to worry about. A carefree Saturday night was just what everyone needed.
As they arrived at Glamour Liz spotted Jackie right away. "Jacqueline!" Liz said loudly enough to get Jackie's attention. Jackie walked over to her and her friends followed. "Liz!" greeted Jackie. "These are my friends, they helped me move today so now we're having some fun." Jackie went on to introduce everyone. Jacqueline certainly had attractive friends thought Liz. "it's nice to meet you all, Jacqueline, you didn't tell me how good looking all your friends were." said Liz. A high-pitched gasp came from Michael. "Jackie what the hell?! If you talk about me, you obviously have to mention how hot I am!" Liz smirked, not much upstairs she thought, at least he's nice to look at. "Go on in, don't worry about the line or cover charge. Enjoy yourselves." Liz replied. They all thanked her and went inside. They ordered some drinks and headed to the dance floor. Jackie and Fez felt sorry for Brooke because her dance partner was Michael Kelso. She'd be lucky if he didn't break her toes by stepping on them. The group had some fun on the dance floor, dancing with each other and laughing at Michael's moves. Brooke grew a bit tired and headed to the bar to get some water.
A tall blonde man approached Brooke at the bar. He hadn't spoken but Brooke knew this had to be Leif, the man Jackie spoke about. She seriously doubted there would be many Nordic looking men in Wisconsin. Leif spoke, "Your date is certainly...interesting. " Brooke laughed knowing he was referring to Michael's dancing. "That he is." she replied, smiling while watching Michael try to dance with Jackie and Jackie trying to get away. "How do you know Jacqueline? " Asked Leif. Brooke smiled; he was obviously interested in Jackie. She wished Hyde hadn't hurt her so badly, a new man would be a good distraction for her. "She used to date my boyfriend, now she's my daughters' godmother." Brooke replied. "That's an interesting relationship." said Leif. "How did that happen?" "Jackie and Michael are best friends, along with Fez." she motioned to their foreign friend. "Jackie and Michael dated in high school. They broke up, Jackie got with someone else, Michael got me pregnant, and here we are." Brooke laughed at the absurdity of their story. Leif nodded in understanding. "So, what do you do..." he hadn't caught her name, she extended her hand to shake and offered "Brooke" "Leif" he replied. "I'm a librarian. I have a bachelor's in library science." "That's impressive, what are some of your favorite books? " Leif asked and for the next thirty minutes they spoke about books and literature. Their favorite poets, and guilty reading pleasures. By the end of the conversation Leif offered her a position as his personal assistant, explaining his frustration at the early hours antique book stores held. She'd make the same salary and receive the same benefits as Jackie, she'd even get a bigger apartment to accommodate Michael and their daughter. He also offered to pay for her to go back to school and get her master's degree. Brooke agreed and said she'd come back the next evening to sign her paperwork and get her apartment keys. Leif bid her a good night and went back to his office. Brooke headed back to the dance floor and told her friends and boyfriend about the job she just received. Michael was more than excited for her. He'd get to live in those nice apartments too. He couldn't wait. While Brooke was speaking with Leif, Liz took it upon herself to dance and talk hair and makeup with Fez. She was impressed with his knowledge and decided she needed him as her personal stylist. She also offered him a job with the same benefits and a new apartment. He let his friends know and they all celebrated the fact that they'd all be neighbors again. Life was going pretty good for the group of friends.
The next day Brooke and Fez went to Kenosha together to sign their employment contracts and get the keys to their new apartments as well as get a quick tour and meet the doorman. While they did that Michael and Jackie headed to the Foreman's house to let the couple, who acted as everyone's surrogate parents, know what was going on and where they'd all be living. They extended an open invitation to them to visit whenever they wanted. Kitty and Red Foreman were happy for their would-be kids. Saddened that they couldn't have that same excitement for their adopted son. Kitty had hoped that Steven and Jackie would end up together, she really believed she was good for him, but she couldn't blame the girl for moving on after the way he acted. She just couldn't believe that he was staying married to that woman. Jackie left her new contact information with them and promised to have them over for dinner as soon as they're all settled.
None of them realized that Sam was at the top of the basement stairs listening to their conversation. She was pleased that Hyde's friends were leaving him, having him isolated was great for her. She'd have him and Donna all to herself and would be able to manipulate them even more. Soon enough she'd have some of that Groove's money. She couldn't wait. Meanwhile she'd hit up Glamour and see if she could find some rich men she could hook up with while Hyde was at work. She knew he wouldn't want to go to a club, and she could just say she was working. He'd never know. She'd heard how amazing Glamour was, but how amazing could it really be if they hired Jackie. Sam scoffed at the idea of the brunette. What did Hyde see in her? She knew he still loved her. He'd say her name in his sleep. Pathetic. She couldn't wait to get his money and be gone. She was over him and the act he put on. Not to mention Donna, the fact that she thought they were friends now was laughable. She was clueless. She was so easy to get on her side, just flash her trans am and act like a good wife toward Hyde and Donna was convinced. Sam ran back downstairs to get ready; she had a club to go to.
Authors note: I gave them a generous salary here...maybe not for current times but in the late 70s minimum wage was less than $3. On True Blood and even in the books it's always been made a point that Eric Northman takes care of his employees. It would only make sense that Pam (Liz) would take up the same habit.
