Early July 22
"I'm going to lose my magic Harry." And at that, Harry became determined for that to never happen.
Harry hugged Ginny even closer to him. "We'll figure something out Gin. You'll be okay."
Many minutes later, Ginny finally calmed down enough so that she could fall asleep. Harry, being a small 12-year-old, struggled to take her to the living room couch. Once they got to the couch, Ginny did not seem to want to let go.
Understandable, Harry thought. All he had ever wanted when the Dursley's were mean to him was someone to hold onto.
Harry told Sirius everything that Ginny had told him. "Siri, what are we going to do?"
"We don't have much time, a week at most. I'll go to Gringotts now to see if anything has happened." Sirius paused for a moment. "Don't worry Harry, it will all work out. Don't leave the house. I'll be back as soon as possible." Sirius put on some glammers and went to the doorstep to apparate to Diagon Alley.
Harry stared down at Ginny. He was surprised how much Gin had come to mean to him over the weeks. She was funny, free-willed, and determined. She brought out the best in the people around her, including Harry. No matter what, Harry would always be there for her.
Fifteen minutes later, both Harry and Ginny were asleep on the couch.
-The Truth Behind Major Events-
Sirius was currently in a meeting with Griphook. Griphook had explained the entire situation before stepping out to question about alternative methods. He was frustrated, but somewhat hopeful. The rumors of disownment stripping away one's powers were only for those who had yet to reach majority. This, however, did not help Ginny. Furthermore, the powers were not completely vanished. Instead, they were weakened by approximately forty percent.
The stakes were still high, but not as high as before.
The only way for an 11 year old girl to reach majority was through marriage, and no 11-year-old should be put into that position. Thus, Sirius was in a dilemma. At this point, Griphook had come back with another goblin in tow.
"Mr. Black, I think I have found a viable solution. Meet Valiantcross," Griphook stated while gesturing to the new goblin. "He is our expert in familial bonds and ancestry. I need to go set up some paperwork, so I will let you two discuss this option."
Sirius nodded. "Thank you Griphook. Good morning Valiantcross. Thank you for speaking with me."
"Of course," the goblin said with an air of indifference while Griphook left the room. "The only way besides marriage for Ginevra to sustain her power is to join with a family who has familial powers of similar or greater strength."
Familial powers are the innate powers unique to each family. The power was not associated with any given traits; however, it was an amplifier to what was already in existence. The Weasley's familial power practically doubled the raw power of the family member. Others, like the Lovegoods, caused a ten percent increase.
"Are there any families that you know of that have similar or greater power than the Weasley's?" Sirius questioned. He was scared of the answer. The Weasly's were notorious for having some of the most raw magic out of the community. It would be hard to find a family with that kind of power let alone the ambiguity of which family that might be.
"Why of course, there are four families who could possibly qualify. The Longbottoms and Blacks are on par with the Weasley's, if not minutely higher. And the Dumbledore's and Potter's are much higher, with the Potter's amplifying the power by almost five hundred percent."
Sirius was shocked. That was a lot of raw magic. No wonder the Potters were able to defeat Voldemort almost 12 years ago.
"How could Ginny be placed under the protection of one of these families? And what would the arrangement entail?"
"Well, a contract must be drawn up for either adoption, betrothal, marriage, or familial protection. From my understanding, your distaste for arranged marriages makes adoption and familial protection the most viable. Adoption is fairly straightforward; however, a witch or wizard's blood changes to match that family and the person adopting the other must be of age. Familial is much more informal but permanent nevertheless. It creates a bond between the two participants no matter what age and the recipient is granted all rights as if they were a part of the other family. The main downside is that both parties become weak for a few days before both of their powers grow exponentially. They amplify each other. Do you have an opinion on either option? I will contact Griphook to expedite the contract writing."
"Can I please have the familial protection contract?"
-The Truth Behind Major Events-
Sirius flowed home with the contract from Griphook's office at 7 a.m.. The glammers had definitely worn off by this point. Sirius stumbled into the living room to see Ginny and Harry waking up, probably due to his heavy landing. Sirius smiled. "Go ahead and get up. We all need to talk. I'll have breakfast ready in 20." Harry and Ginny nodded and Sirirus left the room.
"Sleep well?" Harry asked Ginny who was still laying on top of him.
"Mhm. You make a good pillow." They both laughed and got up. "Race you!" And at that, the duo took off to their respective bedroom.
Fifteen minutes later, Harry and Ginny came down the stairs. They both have mixed feelings of anticipation towards this coming talk. Sirius was already sitting at the table with all of the breakfast spread out around him.
"Good morning. Dig in. I know you two are always hungry." Sirius teased, trying to lighten the mood. His lighthearted manner caused Ginny and Harry to relax slightly.
"So while you are eating, I'm just going to explain the basics." Harry and Ginny nodded. Sirius then continued on to explaining how familial powers work.
"The Potter's actually have the most amplified power, Harry." Harry was surprised by this but just nodded his head.
"So there are four ways to maintain your power Ginny involves becoming connected to a family with stronger powers. The first two we will not be doing. Those are betrothal or marriage. The other ones are adoption and familial protection. I believe that, if Harry is willing, becoming a protectant, as it is called, of the Potter family will be painful for the next few days, but I think it has the greatest benefits in the long run for both of you."
"I'll do it." Harry immediately stated.
"I couldn't ask you to do that Harry."
"You didn't even ask Gin. But I want to help you."
Sirius interjected before things could become more argumentative. He proceeded to explain the benefits of having Ginny's power increase five times and the benefit of both of them having their power multiply off of eachother. Plus, Ginny would be protected and treated as a member of an Ancient and Noble House. "So Gin, what do you think?"
Ginny looked at Harry. "Are you sure?" Harry nodded. "Familial protection it is then."
"I figured. Griphook gave me the paperwork. Let's begin."
The three cleared off the table and Sirius pulled out a pocket knife. "Okay, you both need to sign on the respective lines. Then slice the middle of your palm." Both proceeded to do these actions. "Now put your palms together."
Harry and Ginny complied. The instant their hands touched, they screamed. They're world went black. They collapsed. And all Sirius could see was a green mist leaving Harry's scar along and Ginny's forehead.
-The Truth Behind Major Events-
Griphook glanced at the contract. This type of ritual is not common anymore. People tend to enjoy adoption or don't disown their children for whichever idiotic reason the wizards choose; therefore, Griphook must read a bit into the contract.
The contract does bond the two together through magic. If the bond is strong enough, it can evolve into other bonds. This, however, rarely happens unless a previous bond is formed. The bond thrives off of trust and openness. It will not work if the bond is forced.
The bond also has no political implications which means that no names are automatically changed unless desired by both participants. Normally, the surname of the individual under protection is dropped until otherwise documented. This also does not affect any other contracts (marriage, betrothal, etc.) unless the bond evolves into a soul bond. This is the only bond that magic itself marries two individuals. This is very rare
The only physical difference every noticed is between the strongest of these bonds. A slight change of hair color is the only recorded change. Furthermore, if both participants are underage, it causes their magic to reach the age of maturity (roughly 17) much faster than the ordinary witch or wizard. Consequently, the body's age tends to speed up too in order to keep the magic contained and under control. The longer the participants are out, the higher the likelihood of the bond being strong.
"Hmmm," muttered Griphook. He could not wait to see what all Harry and Ginevra did in the upcoming years.
-The Truth Behind Major Events-
Dumbledore was puttering around his office. Surprisingly, the Weasley's had yet to send Harry a letter. No letters had entered the ward that redirected the owls to Dumbledore if they were within a three mile radius of Privet Drive. This was very peculiar. However, the gadgets on his back table showed that the wards were working the same as last year, if not even more marvelously.
Harry was under his control.
What Dumbledore did not realize was the book of Hogwarts students changing a student to third year. This student's las name was erased. She was Ginevra "Ginny" Molly.
