Chapter 6: Training and sports festival intro
It's been a few days since I started coming to UA and it's been amazing. Learning to be a hero from some of my favorite pros and getting to do it with my sister at the same time is a literal dream come true.
I knew All Might hated me but I didn't care, I wasn't gonna let that stop me. All of the other teachers have been great though. They all treated me like any other student even though I've had to fight a few of them on occasion when being a vigilante. It was nice.
Today though, Aizawa came in with a very serious look. "Everyone sit down and shut up. Your fight's not over yet."
Iida stood up from his desk, chopping his arm. "Everyone, there are villains! Please leave out the door in an orderly line!"
Aizawa glared at him, activating his quirk. "Iida shut up and sit back down." Iida did so immediately, shaking a bit. "Now, the sports festival is coming up. This is only one of three chances you'll get at UA so do your best."
Uraraka raised her hand. "Sir, should we really be having the sports festival so soon after getting attacked by villains?"
"The higher ups said that the security will be beefed up from previous years. This will also show that even though we were attacked, we will still continue despite it. Now, you'll have the next two weeks to train instead of heroics. On to class."
Class began and I was planning out a training regimen for myself for the next two weeks. I figured I was capable of winning with how I am now but slacking wasn't an option. I also made some plans for some of the others that should help them improve both their bodies and quirk in a short time if they wanted it.
——
Once lunch came around, I was about to walk out the door only to be stopped by a horde of people outside the classroom. "Can I help you?" I asked them.
A blonde guy with a shit eating grin with a superiority complex came up to me. "Hahaha! 1-A must be really desperate to have a villain in their class! It just shows how much greater class B is! Hahaha!" Okay, it's almost Katsuki level of a complex.
"If that is what you believe. Now if you'll excuse me, I wish to have lunch." As I was about to walk passed him, a purple haired kid who reminded me of Aizawa stepped in front of me.
"So this is the class that survived the villain attack? Gotta say, I'm disappointed. I was expecting something better."
"Hitoshi Shinso. Quirk brainwashing. You could have easily made it into the heroics course with your quirk."
He looked at pissed. "Bull shit. That exam was rigged for people with combat quirks."
"Tell me, what does a hero do?"
"Is this a trick question?" I shook my head. "Easy. They fig-"
"Wrong. A hero saves people from villains. They make sure everyone is save. If you didn't make into the hero course, it's your own fault." I walked out of my classroom and made my way to lunch.
——
Working out in the weight room, I was just finishing my warm up when I noticed someone walk in. I looked over and saw Stella there. "Hello Vermillion. Is there something you need?"
"Hey Mura, uh, I just wanted to say thanks for saving me the other day. N-not like I needed your help or anything."
"Heh, I know. Your quirk and skill could have easily gotten you out of that situation. Hey, since you're here, do you want to train together?"
She looked away a bit and nodded. "S-sure. N-not that I need to train with you, baka."
I laughed and we began to work out. After that, we began to train with wooden training swords. She is definitely very skilled with swords. I just blocked a swing she threw at me, causing a wave of force to be shot out around us.
"You're good, Vermilion." I pushed her back and she landed on her feet gracefully. "How long have you been training?"
"Since my quirk appeared. Since I can make a sword appear that allows me to control fire, I needed to be able to use it properly so my father brought me to a dojo."
"Is that what you wanted?" I charged at her and did an upwards slash at her. She hesitated for a second and didn't block my swing properly. She fell to the floor as her sword flew off behind her. "You've got a lot of natural talent and have been trained well."
She looked away and I helped her back to her feet. "That's what everyone says."
I could hear the sadness in her voice when she said that. "But do you know what?" She looked at me curiously. "It's also obvious. The sword style you were trained in is strong but also leaves you open too much. Most people who train in swordsmanship do start with that style but there are better ones. You can also make your own style. Something all your own. Like my style. I fight with two swords but I always make sure to have something to use in every situation."
"Yeah. I haven't seen anyone use your style before. But… could I really do it?"
"I believe that you can but it's all up to you. Do you think you can?"
She looked down a bit. "I… don't know."
I put my hand on her shoulder. "If you ever want to train again, I'd be more than happy to." I began to walk back to the dorms for a snack and a break.
——
Over the next two weeks, I've been training with some of the others. They've been improving well and Stella's been working really hard on her own sword style.
I've noticed that Katsumi mainly trained by herself. 'After this, I'll have to talk to her. She hasn't said a single word to me and only ever seems to say a single word to Izumi and only seems to really talk to Shoka at lunch.'
We were all sitting in the waiting room, waiting to be called out to the field. I had some wooden swords on my back and my gloves and boots from my suit since I made them.
Shoto walked up to me. "Mura, I'm gonna beat you."
I looked at him. "Okay?"
"You're nothing but a bug to be squished by me."
I turned away from him. "If you're trying to make me angry, it won't work."
"Yeah, right. I've watched you. You act all stoic but there's something that makes you tick. Maybe when I kick your ass, you'll see just how insignificant you are."
'Shoto's been hanging out with Katsuki too much.' "Well, if we do face each other, I expect you to give me a good fight. You've got a sister, right?"
"Tch, why would you want to know about that quitting bitch."
'Yeah, just what I thought.' "I heard her quirk is supposed to be better than yours."
"Grr, she can't even compare to me."
"Oh, it seems like I touched a nerve."
Before I could continue, the intercom sounded. "Can all of the classes please head to the entryway to the field and wait to be called out."
Everyone got up and walked out the door. I felt both Katsuki and Shoto glaring at me as we made our way outside. As we got to the entryway to the field, we heard Present Mic announce us. "First up we have the class that was saved by the vigilante Mura himself, class 1-A!" We walked out as Present Mic announced the other classes.
When we all got in front of the main stage, Midnight came out in her hero outfit as a large chunk of the audience began to cheer for her. "Hello and welcome to this year's UA sports festival! I'll be your host this year! Now, before we start, I'd like to get a word from a couple people in the first year. First is the class representative, Izumi Yagi!"
Izumi walked up on stage and up to the microphone. "Hello. I just want to say one thing. There are many people who are told that they can't be heroes due to various reasons. Their quirk being weak or maybe villainous or they're quirkless. I just want to tell everyone out there watching and listening that the people telling you that are all wrong. Anyone can be a hero regardless of what you were born with. My twin brother is a great example. He was born quirkless but he had the most heroic spirit I've never seen. If I've ever learned anything from him, it's that you should never give up in the face of adversity. Push forward and achieve the dream that you cling so hard to." She gave a quick bow and walked off the stage as the crowd cheered and even a few began to cry.
As she returned to our class, I gave her a tap on the shoulder. "Amazing speech, Izumi."
She smiled and said thank you as Midnight came up to the microphone again. "Next we have Mura!" The crowd began to look confused as I made my way up to the stage.
I walked up to the microphone. "Hello everyone. I just want to say that I expect every single one of you to give it your all today." I looked directly at Shoka as I said that.
Shoka POV
'Why do I feel like he was directing that at me specifically?'
Izuku POV
"This festival is to show the world what you're capable of achieving. Even if you didn't make it into the hero course, that doesn't mean you can't show those in charge they were wrong for putting you in the class you got. That you can be a hero. Go beyond. Plus ultra." I walked off the stage and back to my class and getting a quiet manly from Kirishima.
Midnight walked back to the mic. "We had some amazing speeches this year. It really puts me in a mood~. Anyways, let's see what the first event will be!" On the giant screen behind her, a wheel appeared. "This wheel will spin and land on an event! The first event will be…" the wheel began to spin until it landed on the image of a finish line "obstacle course! Everyone, please gather at the starting line and get ready!"
Everyone began to walk to a giant door that said start on the top and I began to stretch. As I was, I saw Shoto at the front of the pack and immediately knew what he was going to do. Preparing for that, I began to fiddle with my gauntlet. 'There. Shield mode should be more than enough for this race.'
Present Mic came over the intercoms. "EVERYONE, READY, STEADY, GOOOO!!!" The doors immediately opened and the race began.
