Dirty Dishwater

Life is like doing the dishes; when you take away everything else, the only thing left is the dirty dishwater. And that's where you find out what you had for dinner.

"Cross my palm with silver, and your future may be revealed," came the call of an aged fortuneteller.

She agreed and entered.

And when he stepped out in her path as she exited, preparing for the inevitable struggle it would take to kidnap her, she neither said nor did anything.

She flickered her gaze at him with a dark expression for a split second, and then lowered her eyes to the ground before trying to walk off silently.

He grabbed her arm lightning fast in a crushing grip.

Her eyes stared at him hauntingly, gaze assessing as she looked him up and down, and then she shook her head minutely.

"There's no way I'd ever love you," she murmured. "That woman must be on opium."

And he couldn't explain why, but that remark alone hurt more than imaginable.
