Chapter 2: A Bad Start
Ron continued observing, the redhead suddenly moved her hair back before looking at her ravenette friend.
"Maybe we should use this opportunity to do a little spying!" she suggested, rushing out of the room.
"Right behind you!" her dark-haired companion chimed in, following her.
The only one left was their rude, blonde friend. She seemed completely content to simply sit and stare at Ricky.
'She's so useless…' Ron griped. He moved away, tailing the two spies. At least THEY would actually do something!
…
It had definitely proved to be the right call, as far as Ron was concerned. The two girls had been quick to advance, right under the guards' noses. His only issue at the moment, funnily enough, was their choice of uniforms. Both of these spies wore very tight bodysuits that left very little to the imagination… and they were even in bright colors, too! Was this a joke?!
Had Ron walked into some silly, kids show? Or, was everything just part of a bad dream he was having?
His mental breakdown would have to wait, he confirmed that the girls themselves weren't very proficient at the whole stealth thing. They mostly remained stuck to the ceiling, using some sort of cups on the feet of their suits.
'Whoever designed those things needs to be locked away… for more than one reason!' Ron swore, watching as the two ducked away from a group of passing guards. The spy in green had her hairband fall on top of one of the guards' head. She'd instantly tried to retrieve it, only to retreat before she was caught, it was almost comical… Finally, when the coast was clear, the two began moving once more.
When the pair arrived at a dead-end the redhead started checking for a hidden passage, while her friend leaned against the wall… causing the wall to open in a feat of pure luck.
Ron wanted to complain… only to find that he himself had experienced the same thing on a number of different occasions. Some people had luck like that… dumb luck, that is.
The two girls slipped into the room, while Ron made his way to the ground. Seeing as there was no other way for him to enter besides the door, he was about to go in… when he heard steps coming from behind him. Ron quickly pulled the hat of his acquired uniform down and yanked the uniform's collar up, effectively hiding as much of his face as he could without looking too suspicious. Ron started walking loudly enough to be heard by whoever was coming. When he turned around the corner, he saw two men. One was dressed like him… a goon, as painful as it was to admit.
The second man was wearing a stylish, completely white suit. He had long, silver hair that looked way too shiny to be real. 'A wig…' Ron concluded. However, the most eye-catching thing about him was his arm. It was completely made of metal, with honest-to-God claws on the tips of its fingers. 'Okay… so I've found the bad guy… Either that, or a hardcore cosplay fan…'
The blonde sidekick simply stood his ground and stared at the 'bad guy', before simply moving to the side and clearing the way for him to pass. 'Stay professional, these guys won't talk to their boss…'
As the two moved past Ron, his 'boss' glanced at him and signaled with his head to follow them.
'I guess I blended in a little too good…' Ron mused. He fell in line with the other goon, walking into the room with them. The blonde took in the sight of the lab, it was quite large and had a chair in the middle of it.
There was Ricky's manager and some old scientist next to several controls, Ron signed in relief when he failed to spot any of the girls around. 'They must have hidden themselves, or managed to get out of the room somehow…'
The silver-haired villain pointed to the empty chair in the middle of the room, then glanced at the goon next to Ron. "Please, have a seat… I would like to hear what you think about Ricky's newest song…"
The goon silently sat down. Clear glass descended, covering him entirely. The machine was activated and, in a matter of seconds, the goon's expression changed to an almost blank one.
The glass opened and he exited, his hands hanging at his sides, muttering something about Ricky being his master and disaster.
"Dismissed…" the silver-haired villain bit out, the goon walking out of the room.
Ron stayed rooted to his spot, waiting for his next order… until he could find a chance to slip away.
That was when he suddenly heard a girl's whispering, Ron tried not to cringe when he noticed where the voices were coming from. 'PLEASE tell me they are NOT under the control console… right next to his feet!' No such luck, as the silver-haired man gripped the control panel and pulled it up to reveal the two spies from earlier.
"Security, we have intruders!" he bellowed in anger.
'No, you think?!' Ron desperately wanted to shout, the two girls screamed louder than he ever had during any of his missions with Kim.
They instantly bolted out of the room, as fast as they could, with Ron hot on their tails. It wouldn't do for him to get caught, not when the whole base was on high alert.
Both he and the girls had passed the brainwashed guard. Ron could have slipped past them by now, but that was just a bad idea on so many levels. Instead, he made sure to keep them firmly in his sights.
More guards appeared, blocking their way. The girls rushed to one of the side doors, kicking it open, before darting up what was apparently a staircase to the upper levels.
Ron rushed to the roof as fast as he could… only to be stopped by the redhead who was waiting for him.
"You're a persistent one, I'll give you that!" She immediately went on the attack, trying to kick him down the stairs towards the approaching guards… only to miss completely and have her own legs swept out from under her in one, swift motion.
"What?!" she yelped, before reading herself once more. She now understood she faced a much stronger opponent than she'd anticipated.
"Sam, we can scale down the wall-" The ravenette spy didn't get a chance to finish her sentence, a helicopter appearing out of the ground and firing some net that encased her in a clear bubble she was unable to break free from.
"Alex!" the redhead (apparently named Sam) called out. She watched as her friend fell to the ground, not hurt but definitely down for the count.
Ron could hear the rest of his 'reinforcements' pounding up the stairs, he was left with only one choice.
"Sorry about this…" he whispered. Ron kicked her to the ground, where she ended up trapped inside of an identical bubble.
A few of the goons flooded onto the roof, as well as the silver-haired villain and Ricky's manager. Everyone stared at the spy now known as Alex.
She simply smiled innocently at them.
'Is this some sort of comedy routine for her?!' Ron wanted to screech. The metal-equipped bad guy looked him over, nodding with a smile.
"Good work!" was all he said, before turning his gaze back to the spies.
X-=-=-=-=-=-=-X
"So… the 'Spies' are really… spies" the silver-haired mastermind mused, staring at the two girls that he'd locked inside of the recording studio.
Ron wanted to cringe at that, he'd only just now made the connection?
"Hey, don't blame us, blame Jerry! It was his idea!" Alex snapped, huffing and looking away.
'Are you really complaining about this right now?!' Ron simply shook his head, keeping his stern face in place. He was granted permission to come with the 'boss', to make sure things went smoothly. 'Why is it that I have an aptitude for being a bad guy?' He was definitely doing something wrong.
The redheaded one (Sam, he recalled) was staring daggers at him… Apparently, she hadn't taken him knocking her out too kindly. Eh, who knew?
Ron listened in carefully, as the silver-haired villain explained his master plan. He would use mind-controlled fans to take down all governments, elevating him as ruler of the world. That soon, they too would be counted among his many mind-slaves.
'I guess it IS a universal thing for bad guys… just tell your evil plan to the first person you get your hands on… I wonder if they get a kick out of it?' The blonde's question went unanswered, the mastermind activating his subliminal music to control the spies and leaving the room laughing in a very villainous way. Drakken could learn a thing or two from this guy.
…
Ron remained with the two spies, the girls trying to cover their ears as thoroughly as they could. Sam was glaring at him the whole time, as if she had a personal vendetta against him.
Ron glanced around, making sure to listen if someone was coming, there was no one… 'Finally!' the blonde boy crowed. He pushed a few buttons and shut off the mind-controlling music.
Both spies stared at him in confusion. Sam moved forward to the glass, anger on her face.
"What do you want, looking for a rematch?!" the redhead screeched in fury. "You didn't beat me last time! How about you come over here and fight me fair?"
To the two spies' shock, Sam's ridiculous challenge seemed to work. The door suddenly popped open, both of them bolting out a second later.
The first one to exit, Alex, seemed relived- even smiling at him. "Wow, thanks for that! We were really in a pickle!"
'She's just so carefree…' Ron understood it now, that was just her personality.
Sam, on the other hand, seemed ready to pounce on him. Her whole body was stiff, like a coiled spring, ready for his next move.
Ron's response was to lift his hands up, in the universal gesture of surrender. "Relax… I'm not your enemy" he soothed, his tone natural and calm.
"Really? Could have fooled me back there!" Sam barked.
Both girls seemed skeptical, they still didn't trust him. "Fair enough…" Ron admitted, he dropped his hands and crossed his arms.
"Who are you?" Sam asked in suspicion. She refused to relax, for even a moment, expecting the blonde boy to show his true colors.
'That is the hardest question she could have asked…' Ron couldn't help but sigh. "Look, you don't have much time… that silver-haired freak is about to launch Ricky's new song into orbit…" Ron explained.
"You mean Sebastian?" Alex asked, a bit confused at the nickname.
"So, that's his name…" the blonde teen mused, making a mental note to remember it.
"Wait, you didn't even know his name?" Sam asked, mimicking Alex's expression, Ron shrugged. "What kind of goon doesn't know his employer's name?"
"Who says I'm one of his goons?" Ron challenged.
Both girls glanced at each other, as if trying to make sense of him.
"So… if you're not one of them, why did you attack us?" Sam asked.
"A disguise is only EFFECTIVE as long as the actor is willing to play the part…" Ron shot back in a cool voice, looking to the side, hiding the smile on his face.
"Oh, I know that line! It's from that movie-" Alex interjected, Ron's smile dropping before he cut her off.
"Never mind that! You have a bigger problem to worry about…" the blonde growled, attempting to change the subject.
"I can almost remember the title… it's on the tip of my tongue…" Alex refused to let the matter go.
"Your friend… the blonde one?" Ron prodded, both girls suddenly staring at him in worry. "She's fine… that freak decided not to do anything to her, as soon as he noticed that she was already affected by the song. She's with Ricky… and, as far as I can tell, he has no idea about any of this."
"Okay, let's say we believe you… what now?" Sam asked, a bit more relaxed (but still wary).
"Do you have a way of getting off this island?" Ron asked seriously.
"We did spot something that could get us out… why?" the redhead asked, an odd look in her eyes.
"Good, take it and get out of here… I'll make sure they don't raise the alarm while you do." The boy turned and dashed out of the room.
"Wait! Who are- Damn, he's gone…" Sam tried to stop him and get some answers, but he was already out of sight.
"Wow, he's a fast one! So, what do we do? Do we believe him?" the ravenette teen asked her longtime friend.
"He did release us… and it's not like we have too many options at this point…" Sam wanted to claim that they could have broken out by themselves, but she wasn't sure if they would have turned into mindless zombies by the time they'd finished.
Both girls started running as fast as they could, avoiding the guards still posted everywhere.
"So, who do you think he was?" Alex asked quietly.
"Probably some agent Jerry sent, to help us out in cases like this…" Sam responded, vowing to get some answers from their boss.
The two spies arrived at the beach, before activating the underwater function of their suits to help them secure a way off the island. They managed to steal two jet skis guarded by a few goons, making a quick getaway. They'd expected to be fired upon, or to at least hear an alarm siren go off. When nothing happened the two girls glanced back… only to see a single guard, standing there and staring at them.
At his feet were the goons that had been upright just moments ago, knocked out like it had been nothing.
The only man still standing nodded to them, before turning away.
'I WILL get some answers from Jerry about this guy!' Sam swore, before returning her focus to the mission at hand.
…
"Now then… what do I do now?" Ron sighed, looking at his handiwork. The spies were long gone by now, he needed a way out of here himself.
Looking around, he spotted a black walkie-talkie on each of the guards. Picking it up, he took a deep breath before pressing the button.
"Does anyone hear me!? The intruders are gone!" he bellowed loudly.
"What?! Repeat your last transmission!" an angry voice from the other side demanded.
"The prisoners escaped! They knocked us out and stole the jet skis we had at the dock!"
"They WHAT?! Stay there, we'll send a party after them!" the voice on the other side ordered.
"No time, if I don't go after them now we'll lose them! Unless YOU want to tell the boss that you took your time, instead of finishing them off while we had the chance?" Ron challenged.
No one wanted to have their boss angry with them… especially when said boss was a madman, one that wouldn't hesitate to clearly demonstrate how displeased he was with them.
"Y-Yeah, good plan!" the now frightened voice from the other side agreed.
"Figured… where are all the boats? I'll need something fast, if I want to catch up to them…" Ron asked, glancing around.
"Right! Head to hanger dock, there should be a few boats there! …and be quick about it."
"Copy that, make sure to send someone to help these idiots over here…" Ron shot back, dashing off.
He arrived a few minutes later, staring at the warehouse that contained all of the boats on the island.
'Sorry guys… I'll have to ground you for now…' A small smile slipped onto Ron's face, as he sabotaged all of the boats. They wouldn't be able to leave the island anytime soon.
Looking around, Ron spotted the thing that worried him the most. The same helicopter that he'd seen before. It was still very much operational, simply sitting there with two guards standing next to it.
'The pilots, most likely…' Ron rushed towards the pair, they tensed up but relaxed at seeing he was wearing their uniform. "We have an emergency, the prisoners messed with the boats!" Ron shouted.
"What? What are you talking about?" one of the pilots asked.
"Didn't you hear?!" He raised his voice a bit, before turning the walkie-talkie on once more. "We have a problem!"
"What is it now, did you lose them?!" the voice from the other side asked.
"Negative, they messed with the boats before they made their escape… Is there any way we can still get them?" Ron asked, his back now facing the two pilots.
"WE can get them, leave it to us!" The two rushed to get ready, starting the helicopter.
"Roger that! Make sure to apprehend them, no matter what!" the voice from the other side bellowed.
"Are there any more helicopters?" Ron suddenly asked.
"No, we only have the one…" the voice let slip.
"That's all I wanted to know…" Ron responded, smiling. He knocked both pilots out, dumping them out onto the ground, then jumping into the helicopter himself.
"What's going on over there?" the voice questioned over his walkie-talkie.
Ron simply took to the air, flying in the same direction of the two spies.
…
Sam and Alex continued to ride their stolen jet skis as quickly as they could, they had to find a compatible cell tower. That would give them the signal they needed to call Jerry and arrange some sort of transport. Or, at least some backup… seeing as they were now missing a member.
There were only a few hours before the concert was scheduled to start, they were really cutting it close this time.
Suddenly the two spies heard a loud, familiar sound. It was a helicopter, the same one that had nabbed them the last time they'd been spotted.
"Damn, they found us!" Sam shouted when a spotlight shone down on them, the flying vehicle moving much faster than they could hope to match.
The helicopter darted past and stopped in front of them, cutting off their escape. "Any bright ideas?!" Alex shouted.
"Yeah, we take down the pilot and stop Sebastian!" Sam declared, ready to push a button on her belt and activate one of her gadgets.
"Fancy meeting you again!" exclaimed a familiar (muffled) voice emanating from a speaker on the flying machine. "Need a lift?"
'No way…' Sam marveled. A door popped open before the helicopter started a slow, careful descent. It stopped gently, hovering about a foot above the water's surface.
The two girls jumped inside, spotting the same guy who'd helped them before.
"So, it IS you!" Sam approached him slowly.
Alex simply rushed forward, sitting next to him in the co-pilot seat. "You managed to grab this thing and get out of there… not bad…" the ravenette girl concluded, sounding impressed. She stared at Ron's face- or at least his eyes, that was practically the only part of him that wasn't covered up.
"But now they'll have a much easier time tracking us with this thing in the air, not to mention they've probably informed Sebastian that we're on his trail-" Sam complained, before Ron cut her off.
"I wouldn't worry about that…" he said, silencing the redheaded teen. "I made sure to sabotage their long-range communication, and means of transport, before I left… The only thing they can do is sit on that island and wait, until we come get them…"
Sam looked shocked, all they'd been concerned with was stopping the madman and saving Clover. But, this guy…
"Cool!" Alex enthused, sliding even closer to Ron. "Did you have to fight all the guards along the way?!" She was as giddy as a little girl.
"No… just a few of them. All I did was knock them out from behind…" Ron admitted, ignoring how close Alex's bodysuit was to his face (and how well it hugged her stunning figure).
"You seem to be pretty good at that… knocking people out, that is…" Sam interjected. 'Me included…' she grumbled silently.
"Again, sorry about that…" Ron responded, easily deducing what was on Sam's mind.
…
"So, who are you?" Alex asked, sitting right by his side. "Now that we have some time to talk… maybe we can get to know each other better?"
…
"Jerry sent me… as backup…" Ron lied, recalling Alex mentioning the name before. Whether he was their handler or boss was a gamble, to say the least. But Ron's guess seemed to work in his favor, for the moment.
"Oh! We have someone like you on our team? I wish I'd known before… So, who are you? Oh… and why don't you lose the silly uniform~" Alex cooed with a smile, tracing her finger along the fabric covering Ron's arm.
A brief chill shot down his back, he shook his head no. "Not yet… we might encounter more of them at the concert, after the mission…"
Alex pouted cutely, remaining discomfortingly close to Ron. It was as if she was trying to imagine how he looked under his disguise. Sam simply kept staring at the pair… something still felt off to her.
…
The helicopter ride had proven to be a much faster method of transport. After an hour or so, they could finally see the coastline on the horizon. The whole time Sam had kept her distance from her fellow passengers, trying to call Jerry. In contrast, her friend Alex seemed to become more and more interested in their new ally.
"Any luck back there?" Ron asked, glancing away from Alex and sparing himself from the amorous looks she was giving him.
"No… not yet…" Sam had tried to be subtle about what she'd been doing, but seeing as he didn't seem to care all that much she saw no point in trying to continue hiding it.
After a few more minutes, Ron spotted the venue they needed to get to. "Well, we've arrived…" the boy declared, it couldn't have come at a better time! Alex was really starting to get impatient, like a kid waiting to open her gifts on Christmas morning. "I'll drop you off here and get rid of the helicopter… I'm sure Sebastian would be pretty surprised to see it…"
Both spies looked at each other, their faces turning serious. The pair moved to the door as he descended.
"Well, I guess we'll see you after the mission!" Alex cheered, smiling and winking at the disguised boy.
"You will… unless Jerry has another mission for me!" Ron laughed a bit.
Alex giggled sweetly, before jumping through the open door.
Now left alone with Ron, Sam moved closer to him. "Look, I know it was a part of the mission… but I'm sorry about suspecting you before… I hope you can forgive me?" she asked, placing her hand on his shoulder.
"No worries, we're all on the same team, right?" Ron asked, his tone warm.
"Of course!" Sam smiled at him for the first time, before she headed to the door and jumped off as well.
…
Ron lifted back up into the sky, watching the two spies move towards their objective.
The blonde teen wanted to laugh, easily finding the painfully-obvious objects that Sam had planted, both on his shoulder and inside one of his side pockets.
Ron recalled her last words to him. 'Of course, she said… Man, she sounded WAY too convincing!' Luckily for him, he knew (by heart) the feeling of something in his pockets from all his missions with Kim. Having to run with Rufus in his pocket, plus all of the different gadgets that Wade had given him over the years, had left him very aware of when something was different.
It was like a trained policeman having to forget the weight of a loaded sidearm…
Ron had obviously been planning on getting rid of the uniform, but now he felt compelled to do a little something extra… just for her.
…
The two spies arrived at the concert, it was starting to fill up with Ricky's fans. Everyone was calling his name, eagerly waiting for the show to start.
The pair managed to sneak backstage, explaining his manager's plan to the puppet-singer. From there, the two split up. Someone needed to keep an eye on Ricky, unless they wanted his rabid fans to rip him to shreds.
Sam was tasked with getting to the top of the structure and disabling the brainwashing machine. Sneaking around was a bit tricky, especially when she had a time limit on her hands.
The redhead came to a stop, noticing some guards scanning the area. Sam ducked to the side, crawling beneath a truck that was parked near her.
She had just crawled out from between the vehicle's wheels when she felt someone's eyes on her. Turning her head, Sam noticed one of the guards staring right at her- or, more precisely, her ass…
'I need to silence him, before- wait…' The redheaded spy noticed his hands held up in a familiar, placating gesture.
"It's me… did you get to Ricky and your teammate?" Ron asked (ignoring the tight, green-clad behind staring him right in the face).
Sam instantly shot up and turned towards him, her face a bit red. She pushed her embarrassment aside, for now. "Alex is guarding Ricky, but we still haven't found Clover…"
"Mmm… she's probably with the rest of the fans in the crowd…" Ron deduced, he glanced around. "So, what's the plan?" he asked her (for the first time).
"We need to stop that broadcast!" Sam shouted.
Ron instantly glanced up at a huge satellite dish, it was almost comically conspicuous. "That's where you need to go… can you get there?"
"Yeah, no problem… I just need some cover" Sam replied confidently, looking around.
"Leave that to me. Wait a few seconds, then start moving" the blonde boy offered, he quickly ran away from the girl in the opposite direction of her target.
"Hey, come quick, I found someone suspicious!" Sam heard him yell, most of the guards patrolling the area came running.
Sam didn't miss the chance, using her belt's grappling hook to get higher. 'Maybe I was wrong about him being our ally after all…' Sam grumbled, before focusing on the main threat.
As soon as she arrived at the top, Sam noticed that the broadcast was already about to start… she had no time to stop it!
Suddenly a black helicopter showed up, she could barely make out the metal-armed madman sitting inside.
"If I can't stop it… maybe I can change the angle of the dish?" Sam quickly tried pulling a few levers, the dish moving to point at the helicopter.
…
Their mission had ended in success, the three spies meeting up with their boss. They were accompanied by a now-disheartened Ricky, Clover was still attached to the fake idol and they needed to fix that.
"Great job, girls! We got Sebastian and his helper just in time, before they managed to do some real damage…" the older man praised.
"Thanks a lot, Jerry!" Alex exclaimed. "So, when can we meet our backup for the mission?" she asked excitedly, already planning on getting to know him as quickly as she could.
"I'm sorry?" Jerry simply stared at them, one eyebrow raised. "I'm not sure I follow you, Alex…"
"Come on Jerry, we mean the guy you sent to help us in case things went south…" Sam elaborated.
"Girls… I fully expected you to be able to handle this mission on your own, I didn't send any backup…" The older man stared at the two (non-hypnotized) girls, who looked at each other.
"Jerry, we HAVE to find him! I planted a few tracking bugs on him, he can't be far!" the redheaded teen yelled, her boss jumping into action.
…
A few minutes later…
Sam's tracking devices proved to be a bust. They arrived at the location indicated… only to find a discarded uniform on the floor, with the gadget still on it.
"So, we lost him?" Alex asked, disappointed.
"No… we didn't" Jerry suddenly replied. He moved closer to the girls, something held in his hand.
"Did he leave any clues?" Sam rushed forward to see what their boss had found.
"No… but there's a note here along with the tracer. It says 'nice working with you, zucchini' …and there's a badly drawn picture of a zucchini…" The older man simply offered the note to the girls.
Sam snatched it out of his hands, clearly angry.
"Did he write something about me too?" Alex asked innocently, her redheaded friend growing even madder.
"Alex… shut up…"
