Chapter 3: Undercover
The day after arrived, the three spies going on with their day like normal.
They were currently sitting in the courtyard, next to their school's decorative fountain. Clover looked devastated about what had happened yesterday.
"I can't believe I fell for Ricky… I'm, like, SO embarrassed!" the blonde girl all moaned.
"Come on Clover… don't be so hard on yourself. You weren't thinking straight…" Alex soothed, trying to calm her friend.
"Yeah… the effects of the music wore off, so at least you're not a zombie groupie anymore…" Sam added, her tone annoyed.
"What's wrong with you?" Clover asked, easily distracted from her own problems by her friend's attitude.
"Nothing…" Sam hissed in anger, as she worked on something in her notebook.
"Sam, are you REALLY still pissed about him getting away?" Alex asked, her eyebrow raised.
"No, I'm not…" the redhead growled, still not meeting her friends' eyes.
"Wait… I thought you guys nabbed that Max guy, or whatever" the blonde teen prompted. From what she understood, the mission had turned out great (even without her help). Although, she really didn't appreciate being turned into a mindless fangirl.
"Well yeah, we did. …but, we had help-" Alex started to explain. "Some guy, that was dressed as one of the goons, helped us escape the island. He even took care of the alarm and gave us a lift, so we could make the concert in time!" Alex gushed, the ravenette teen sounding pretty excited.
"Oh wow, sounds pretty cool! So, who is he? One of Jerry's guys?" Clover asked, a bit more interest in her tone.
"I wish!" Alex exclaimed, a bit louder than she'd intended. "We have NO IDEA who he was! He's not with us… and not one of the bad guys! I wish I'd at least gotten his phone number…" Alex mumbled. There had been a big shift in the ravenette's tone, she sounded really bummed.
"Alex, he's a criminal!" Sam shouted. "We should find that guy and get some answers out of him…" the redhead bit out.
"I'm not sure why you're so mad, Sam… At least he left YOU something…" Alex pouted.
"He called me a zucchini!" Sam shouted, shaking with fury.
"I wonder what he'll call me…" Alex replied dreamily. She thought about his sharp, piercing eyes.
Sam wanted to scream, but restricted herself to simply groaning. She continued to bury herself in her 'work'.
"Oh, wow! If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were crushing on this mystery guy…" Clover teased. "So… how did he look? Was he the hunky type?"
"If we knew THAT, then Jerry would have found him by now…" Sam muttered, from behind her notebook.
"So, you even roped Jerry into this? Just how bad do you want to chase this guy?" Clover seemed much cheerier, now that the topic of discussion was no longer her little mess-up during the last mission.
"She's just mad, because he knocked her out-" Alex teased, cutting off when Sam lightly smacked her on the head with her notebook.
"Alex! I just want that-that… CRIMINAL to get what he deserves! …and I told you not to talk about 'that' anymore!" the redheaded teen screeched, enraged once more. This behavior was quite unusual for her, she was normally the CALM one.
"Mmm… what do we have here?" Clover mused, suddenly taking notice of something and ignoring her two friends.
Both Alex and Sam glanced in the direction their blonde friend was looking. They all noticed Mandy, walking around with some blonde student that looked a little familiar to them. The typically-mean girl looked quite happy walking next to him. However, unlike every other guy she'd walked with in the past, there was something… different about her expression.
"Wow, would you look at that? I never thought Mandy would ever let her standards drop so low…" Clover crowed.
"Um… Clover? I think that's the same guy you ran into… You know, when you rushed towards Damian?" Alex pointed out, watching the scene with great interest.
"Is he?" the blonde spy asked, honestly surprised. "I usually tend to forget anyone who isn't a hottie…"
"Good to know…" Sam added. She noticed the boy they were discussing glance at Clover for a moment, before turning his gaze back to the happy Mandy. 'I wonder if he's still angry at Clover about before?' Sam wondered, returning to her task.
"So… are they dating?" Alex suddenly asked, a bit of interest in her tone.
"Who? Mandy and the new guy?" Clover questioned, she received a positive nod from the ravenette. "Please… like I care about anything involving HER…"
X-=-=-=-=-=-=-X
A few days passed, with zero information on the guy who'd helped them on their mission. Jerry had promised them a name… but had come up short, insisting that he needed more time.
THAT didn't help the mood of the girls, not one bit…
Sam had been a little pricklier than she usually was… She'd written down everything she knew, and had seen, about him. It was as if she was trying to get into the head of a serial killer, to find out where he'd strike next and stop him.
Alex was unchanged, for the most part. At least, if you didn't count the fact that she seemed a little less energetic… like she regretted missing out on something.
Clover was the same as she always was, with the sole difference being she'd been trying to cheer her friends up any way she could. She hadn't even been making fun of Mandy… and that was saying something!
Jerry had gathered all the clues he could find, constructing a profile of the man who'd helped them. He'd even been given a codename… The Actor.
Someone who was a manipulator, one that did things for his own twisted pleasure. A master of deception, as well as a fairly good assassin. Someone who was extremely dangerous if you had your back to him, as that was his preferred avenue of attack.
The spies had just finished another mission. Nothing major, but still important… even if HAD been a poor use of their skills.
"Are we spies, or forest rangers?!" Clover had been quick to voice her opinion concerning their recent adventure, being on patrol for potential avalanches was not something they needed to do.
"Clover, even if it's something as simple as this, we've still got to keep our cool and stay alert…" Sam admonished, looking around.
"Please… I AM being cool. Like… hello! …we're in the alps! And besides, you're just glad we have a mission like this so you can focus on finding that guy…" the blonde girl accused.
Sam couldn't really dispute her friend's words. The redhead could admit to herself that she was a LITTLE intense, when it came to finding- and apprehending- The Actor… even if she refused to say that out loud. "Do you mean to tell me that you're OKAY with having this dangerous man, running around, free to do whatever he wants?"
"Um… don't you mean allegedly? I mean, it doesn't sound like he's done anything bad, per se-" Clover pointed out, cutting off as soon as she noticed that Sam was about to argue with her. "-and no, calling you a zucchini doesn't count…" the blonde sighed, exasperated by how many times they'd had this exact same debate.
The three spies moved on, finished with their current mission. They never even noticed someone watching them through a pair of binoculars, a smirk crawling across his face.
X-=-=-=-=-=-=-X
After having returned home, the girls decided to take it easy and relax at Sam's house. It was a huge home, honestly on the border of being a mansion. To be fair, that was fairly standard for Beverly Hills…
"I thought being a spy was supposed to be fun! Going on cool missions, checking out fancy places… talk about a letdown" Alex ranted, enjoying a mouthful of her ice cream. "But, at least I get to meet interesting people…" she conceded. That was pretty much her only solace.
"…and exactly WHO are you referring to, Alex?" the redheaded spy asked suspiciously.
"You know, like… Jerry?" the ravenette answered sheepishly.
…
"Alex! You can't date a criminal…" Sam rebuked.
"Why not? It's not like that's in WOOP's rulebook…" Alex scoffed, pretending her spoon was an airplane.
"Because it's obvious!" Sam screeched back.
"Come on girls, we need to focus on what's really important! Like our snowboarding trip, this weekend!" Clover interjected, managing to pacify the situation. The girls ended up agreeing that a nice, relaxing trip to the mall was just what they needed.
…
The day after came and the trio went to the mall, as the girls had promised when they'd spent the night at Sam's home the day before.
The Beverly Hills mall was as busy as it always was, offering just about anything a person could ever want.
The girls would have normally split up, to cover more ground. But today, they'd decided to stay together. Clover REALLY wanted to keep an eye on Sam, but she didn't feel right about leaving Alex all alone (like some sort of outcast).
The girls walked around, making a beeline for any sports stores they came across. The trio desperately needed a new, extremely fashionable, wardrobe in preparation for their upcoming ski trip.
Clover was relieved to see her two friends distracted enough to enjoy some quality shopping, they both desperately needed it.
'Ahh… the power of shopping never ceases to amaze me' the blonde teen sighed, admiring the fruits of her efforts. Suddenly, Clover noticed something.
"Okay… this was definitely a good idea!" Sam commented. She'd just left a store holding a few bags, feeling calm and relaxed after scoring what was definitely a good find.
"You said it!" Alex parroted. The two girls spotted their blonde teammate leaning over the railing, staring down at the floor below them.
"What's up Clover, see any cute boys?" Alex asked, glancing in the same direction.
They both recognized someone they all knew all too well… Clover's rival, Mandy. Surprisingly, she wasn't hanging out with her usual posse of sycophants. Instead, the ravenette was simply sitting at a small table with the new blonde student they'd seen her with earlier.
"Well… I know I had my doubts before, but color me impressed. And here I thought that she'd have someone new by now!" Clover declared.
They were all used to it at this point, the way Mandy regularly switched boys. Often drooling over a hunky dude, before moving on to the next one. Clover was pretty much exactly the same… not that Sam, or Alex, would ever say that out loud… to her face.
But, something even odder caught their eyes. Mandy had ALWAYS been quick to assert her dominance. She'd start by clinging to a guy's arm, acting so very sweet and doting. Marking her territory, if you will. Then she'd turn him into her personal mule, or just boss the boy around relentlessly. But here she was, all alone with him. No mountain of shopping bags around, or anyone popular to impress.
It was just… odd.
Hell, the typically-acerbic girl was just talking to him with a smile on her face. But, it wasn't the grin she wore when she was showing off. Or the smirk she used as a weapon, to rub in her superiority over something. It was a simple, happy smile… from MANDY, of all people!
"Well… not that it's any of our business, but maybe they're friends? Just hanging out?" Sam reasoned, wracking her brain for a plausible explanation for what she was seeing.
"Yeah right!" Clover scoffed. "I mean, like, come on… it's Mandy! The ONLY reason she'll be friends with ANYBODY, is to get something out of them…"
"I don't know, Clover…" Alex cautioned. She stared at the pair, an odd feeling bubbling in her stomach. "We've seen them walking around together, quite a few times now. Not once did we see Mandy holding his hand, or his arm, she was always walking next to him…"
Right now, they all watched as the ravenette girl below stared deeply into her "date's" eyes. She was leaning on her palm, smiling sweetly at the boy.
"Okay… So maybe he's a friend from the past, or a family member" Clover suggested. "That, or she has a crush on him…"
…
As soon as Clover had mentioned the possibility, the trio couldn't help but examine the pair even more closely. Now that they thought about it… the two were definitely giving off date vibes.
"Mmm… very interesting. Say girls… what do you say we go down there and say hello?" Clover suggested, before dragging the two away.
A few seconds later, the spies descended to the same floor as Mandy. Their targets in sight, they approached the pair.
"Mandy, hi, fancy meeting you here!" Clover greeted, hellbent on using this chance to mess with her rival.
Alex and Sam both thought this was childish, but couldn't argue that Mandy did (on some level) deserve this. After all the times she'd messed with their blonde friend, how could they argue against Clover doing the same to her?
Mandy glanced at the trio, before simply raising an eyebrow at them. "Hey?" was her only response, too confused as to why the girls would approach her to elaborate further.
"I mean, we all decided to enjoy some time off at the mall… I'm guessing you two had the same idea, right?" a smiling Clover asked the noirette, while stealing innocent glances at Ron. "Hi! I'm Clover, by the way!" she introduced herself.
"Ron…" the blonde boy replied.
"Clover… can I talk to you over here for a second?" Mandy requested, pulling her rival away from the table.
…
"Okay… what do you want, Clover?!" Mandy's tone had gone from sweet to deadly, the second they were out of earshot.
"Little ol' me? I was just in the area and wanted to say hello… is that so wrong?" Clover cooed, faux innocence dripping from her words.
"When it's you… then yes!"
…
Back at the table, both Sam and Alex watched their blonde friend moving away with Mandy. Naturally, both had elected to remain with the blonde boy.
"So… I just gotta ask…" Alex began, sitting at the table across from Ron. "What's the deal with you and Mandy?" she asked, her curiosity too strong to miss this chance.
"Our deal?" Ron replied, one eyebrow raised.
"It's nothing bad, but we don't usually see Mandy with any boys…" Alex elaborated. It wasn't really a lie… per se.
"Okay… and? We're friends, hanging out…" Ron responded dryly.
"What, really?" Sam challenged, her disbelief clear. From what little she'd seen, it was clear that Mandy (at the very least) liked the guy… Did he really not see that, or was he simply choosing to ignore it?
"Do you have a girlfriend?" Alex suddenly asked.
Both Ron and Sam stared at her, shocked by both the bluntness of her question and that it had come out of nowhere.
"Um… no, I don't. I just moved here a few days ago, so-" Ron started to explain, after finding his bearings.
So, they were right! He WAS a new student, after all!
"Oh! Before I forget, I'm Sam…" the redheaded teen explained.
"And I'm Alex!" the ravenette exclaimed, quite eager to introduce herself.
"I know…" Ron pointed out, both girls staring at him in confusion. "We met a few days ago… when Clover knocked me down?"
"Ah… you remember that" Sam replied sheepishly. "I'll apologize in her stead. I think you'd find that Clover's really cool, if you'll give her a chance."
"I'll try… And you don't need to apologize, I wasn't watching where I was going either…" the boy downplayed, eyeing them both. Why had these girls approached them out of the blue? Did they suspect him? It was a very slim possibility, as he'd done nothing to draw any attention to himself. But perhaps he'd have to check… just in case.
…
After Mandy returned, both she and Ron left. They were headed for a different part of the mall, leaving the spies alone.
Clover seemed thrilled by something, she walked away smiling.
"So… did you mess with her, like you wanted?" Sam asked, a little interested in what had affected her friend's mood so drastically.
"No, not really… But, I did find out something really awesome!" the blonde enthused.
"Oh, what's that?" Alex chipped in.
"That little Mandy has a crush on the new guy!" Clover crowed, both girls levelling an odd look at her.
"Um, Clover… No offense or anything, but we kinda figured that out before we even approached them" Sam explained, wishing she could just go back to tracking down The Actor… Or shopping, that was always a good pastime.
"No! I mean, like, a MAJOR crush! Like… huge! I don't think I've EVER seen her so… defensive about it" Clover gushed happily. The friends exited the mall, heading for home.
X-=-=-=-=-=-=-X
The trio returned to Sam's house with their purchases, feeling rather relaxed after their pleasant day. But, as soon as the bags dropped, Sam resumed her vendetta against- personal research on "The Actor".
…that was when they were all sucked right into WOOHP.
"Jerry, do you have any news concerning The Actor!?" Sam shouted, not even caring about the crazy state of her hair.
"Sam… we really need have a talk about your priorities!" Clover chided, inspecting her own hair in shock.
The man who'd summoned them turned around, revealing a young man that was OBVIOUSLY not their old boss Jerry. "Hello girls…" he greeted in a smooth, pleasant voice. "I'm Mac Smit… your new WOOHP guardian."
…
After having discovered that their old boss had decided to retire (and without even informing them), the girls were a little distracted… to say the least. They'd been shaken from their stupor the second Mac had pulled a platinum credit card, advising them to take a trip to Paris and enjoy some time shopping.
Clover was over the moon, a mission to shop without restraint?
Sam wasn't impressed, not at all. "If it's okay with you Mac, I would really like to go over the intel Jerry found on The Actor…"
Mac seemed to be caught off guard by the sudden change of topic. "The Actor?" he questioned, sounding confused for a moment.
"Um… yeah? The one who interfered with our mission and escaped?" Sam supplied, more than a little annoyed. "Don't tell me Jerry didn't fill you in…"
"Oh! Right, of course… The Actor!" He started pouring over his papers for a few moments, before glancing over at the girls. "Tell you what, how about the three of you head over to that mission I gave you and leave this with me? I'll get you a name, as soon as you return, how about that?" he asked, smiling.
X-=-=-=-=-=-=-X
Ron had taken the chance to tail the three spies, noticing them enter an extremely tall building, he just needed to find out if they'd found out who he was… They looked a bit ruffled up, for some reason. Ron managed to overhear them talking about 'this killer credit card', seriously, what were these girls doing?
'WOOHP?' The blonde teen had never heard of it, not even during his time on Team Possible. 'So, that's the name of their spy organization? Either that, or it's some fake company…' Whatever the explanation, it wouldn't change his choice.
The place seemed innocent, at least on the surface…
However, all of his time alongside Kim had taught him to be wary whenever he couldn't spot any obvious security cameras, that was their first slip up.
Going a different route, the blonde ex-sidekick managed to find a closed sewer drain. He easily pried it open, before slipping inside. Moving on, he arrived at a locked door. It resembled an access point for a janitor, or something similar. From there Ron came to a large, empty hallway. He passed an open door leading to a locker room.
A smile flittered across his face, he went inside…
…
'Okay… this place is no joke…' the blonde teen mused, walking around the facility. He was now sporting a fresh, black suit (clearly, one of these men's uniforms). A pair of black sunglasses and an earpiece complemented the ensemble. Finally, a dark hat hid his distinctive blonde hair from sight. There had also been a name tag of someone named 'Jerry' on the suit-coat, Ron had made sure to leave it behind.
Overall, he felt like he was ready to take a bullet for an important figure… he didn't want to stay in this for long.
Ron had seen way too many things he couldn't even BEGIN to explain. 'Why in the hell do they have a creature that looks like the Loch Ness Monster?! …and was that a Yeti back there?!' Ron felt like his brain was about to explode. If only he'd brought a camera… he could have sent Kim- or Wade- a picture. That would prove to them that he'd been right all along!
His mental breakdown was put on hold upon entering a large office area, Ron spotting a few dozen men dressed as he was. They seemed to be working on different tasks, ignoring everything around them. Inside the area was a room with a staircase going sideways, next to that a clear window.
'And there you are…' Ron muttered to himself, finding an unoccupied table. He started going over a few papers, then scrolling through some screens on the computer sitting at the station.
Glancing to the side, he noticed the girls talking with some young man he didn't recognize. 'That must be their boss, Jerry' Ron decided, it was the obvious conclusion.
After a few minutes, the girls suddenly vanished into the ground. 'Jerry' simply started playing with some strange suit that was in his office.
'Odd… since when does "the boss" feel the need to play around with the gadgets in his office?' Betty never had, she'd always been professional and on point.
Simply getting up and walking away could have come across as odd, the last thing Ron wanted to do was attract any unwanted attention. The blonde boy chose to stay put for a bit longer… it's not like he wanted to see if he could find anything else to prove his suspicions right!
Now, if only he could find a camera around here…
…
After about an hour or so, the room started to clear. One by one, the men filtered out- before turning the lights off completely. Ron continued waiting patiently, as he'd heard footsteps coming closer. He made sure he was still hidden from view, listening in.
"Where could he be?" the familiar voice of Sam echoed.
"I don't know… but we should at least leave him a note" Alex chimed in.
"That says what?" Clover bit out. "Mac- FYI- in addition to turning our credit card into a spinning blade of doom, some sicko also blew your car into a million pieces of scrap metal… by the way, let's do lunch!" the blonde girl mocked.
'What?' Ron couldn't help but feel confused by Clover's words, they made no sense out of context. He'd love to ask for some clarification, but it would be extremely bad if he was discovered.
The girls started inspecting the office, Alex moved some papers and dropped a large file.
"Girls, look at this!" Sam read the files out loud, for the benefit of her teammates.
…
Ron simply hunkered down and listened, as best he could. 'Tim Scam, really? These guys hired a guy named SCAM?' It was so painfully obvious he was a bad guy, it wasn't even funny. And that recording… that young guy wasn't Jerry? This scenario was beginning to confuse even him.
Suddenly a ceiling tile started moving, before exploding downwards. A man holding a gun dropped to the floor. Before Ron had time to react, the girls had already rushed out of the room… with the man in hot pursuit.
'Damn it!' Should Ron rush after them, try to find out what the girls knew about him?
His decision came instantly, the blonde ex-sidekick rushing out of the room, he headed in the direction the spies had been running in.
Ron caught a glimpse of all three girls, and their pursuer, getting on these weird hover-bikes and speeding away. He knew there was no way he'd be able to catch up just following them on foot, he tried to find a different route.
…
Not five minutes later, he heard a sudden scream. One of the hover-bikes crashed inside the hallway Ron was in, he rushed to help.
"Are you okay?" Ron asked, muffling his voice a bit. He stared at the blonde spy, Clover, she seemed to be slightly dazed.
"Oh… I guess I needed that wheel after all…" she mumbled, trying to get up and tumbling back down towards the floor.
"Whoa! Careful there…" Ron cautioned. He grabbed her before she could hit the ground, holding her bridal-style.
"Um… thanks, I guess…" The blonde spy looked him over. Clover would have been worried, if it hadn't been a WOOHP agent that found her. "So, do you have any idea what's going on?" she asked.
"Tim Scam managed to fool most of the other agents, sending them away, so he could take out you and your friends…" Ron replied, quickly piecing together the obvious answer.
"What a creep! Anyway, I think I'd better help my team out… so, if you could let me down now?" Clover prompted, slightly uncomfortable at being this close to someone she didn't know.
"Sure thing…" Ron agreed, lowering her down on one leg. She instantly winced, letting out a quiet hiss. "How about you let me handle this, for now? Why don't you preserve your strength to deal with Tim, when we find him?" Ron offered, walking away with Clover in his arms.
"O-Okay… I guess I'm in your hands then, right?" the blonde spy conceded, smiling and lightly blushing.
"Don't worry… I won't let you down" Ron assured her, smiling back, they both started laughing.
"I'm surprised… and here I thought everyone at WOOHP was too stiff to smile" she joked, feeling her leg already starting to recover.
"Hey, don't blame us… It's in our contract, always read the fine print!" Ron joked, earning him another sweet giggle from the girl in his arms.
Clover smiled, shifting her body closer to his. She could tell that her leg was already fine, it was probably time to tell him to put her down.
…
'Maybe just a bit more… I wouldn't want him to think I'm being rude…' she decided, pressing against his chiseled chest.
…
A few minutes later, Ron and Clover could hear talking coming from one of the rooms to their left. Clover immediately asked him to put her down, that was definitely her team.
She rushed off, Ron slowly backing away.
'Well I better get out of here, before I get found out.' The ex-sidekick was about to walk away, when he heard a scream coming from the direction Clover had gone.
Ron rushed around the corner to see both Sam and Alex standing in a very uncomfortable, unnatural position. Like they had been frozen, or something…
Next to them was Clover, who was examining them. She looked towards the man who'd fired upon her friends. He was aiming a strange device at Clover, a menacing smirk on his face.
'Yeah, I don't think so…' Ron growled silently. He rushed over and knocked the man down with a single, well-placed hit. After making sure the man was down for the count, he moved forward and checked on the girls. "You guys okay?"
"Oh, wow- I mean… y-yes! Of course! The girls are fine… That ray-thingy should wear off pretty soon, then they'll be able to move…" Clover looked her friends over again, before rushing to Ron. "Also, nice work! Makes me wonder why Jerry never sends you guys with us on missions…"
'Jerry? Wait… could this suit be…' Ron briefly glanced down to his jacket, where the name tag he'd removed had been originally. Ron wanted to laugh, instead shaking his head and looking at Clover. "So, was this guy Tim Scam?"
Clover nodded, grabbing his name tag. "Looks like it… His name here was Mac Smit… which is Tim Scam spelled backwards. Honestly, I'm embarrassed that we didn't notice it sooner…"
"I wouldn't worry about it too much… you did get him, in the end…" Ron smiled, then glanced at Sam and Alex.
It seemed that, even while they couldn't move their bodies, they could still blink… that was kinda funny.
"I believe you mean WE got him!" Clover insisted enthusiastically.
Ron had been planning on saying something in return, when he noticed just how shocked Sam's eyes were. She knew who he was… Or, at least recognized him from the previous mission.
She wasn't the only one, Alex seemed positively giddy… it was definitely time to scatter.
"Now that I think about it… I think I saw Jerry's name tag, inside the showers on the ground floor. He might still be there, if Tim couldn't find the opportunity to move him…" Ron baited Clover. "I'll keep an eye on your friends, until they unfreeze…"
Clover simply nodded, before rushing off. "Got it!" she shouted.
Ron was left alone, with the living status of Alex and Sam. The former tried to convey something with her eyes, but he couldn't decipher it. He could tell the latter was positively livid with rage, despite her being unable to move.
"Sorry about this… but would you believe that I was totally just passing through?" The blonde boy received what sounded like a vestigial growl as his only answer. "Didn't think so… Well, I've gotta go take care of some shopping… See you, Zucchini!" he crowed, walking away.
As Ron exited the building, he could have sworn that he heard someone screaming in rage. "Huh, odd…"

And that's done!
Don't forget to tell me what you think!
