Chapter 11: A Sense For Fashion
"So… Clover got kidnapped?" Ron questioned, having only spotted Sam and Alex exiting the building.
"Yeah, she did… It looks like our disguises didn't work, so we'll have to find another way in…" Sam explained, already using her Compowder to examine a map of the surrounding area. "I guess we'll have to get in the HARD way…"
…
A few minutes later all three teens found themselves inside a big hole, Ron using a strange device to dig their way into the building.
"I still say this is a bad idea…" Ron complained.
"Hey, YOU were the one who came to help US…" the redheaded spy shot back with a smirk.
Ron continued grumbling as he kept going, the only positive was that the device was making this option much easier (and faster) than it should have been. Unfortunately, Ron was covered with dust and small pieces of gravel that kept flying into his face. All of the debris was making this whole experience more annoying than it should have been.
After breaching their target, the girls took a look around before jumping up out of the small tunnel Ron had dug.
"Well, that was fun…" Ron muttered, dusting his shirt and hair off.
"Hey, I thought you could do anything… guess I was wrong" Sam crowed triumphantly, walking away.
"Ahh… don't mind her, she's only kidding…" Alex assured Ron, patting his back and sides to help clean him off, a little smile on her face.
She MAY have been enjoying the feeling of her hands running over his body… just a little.
…
The group explored the facility as quietly as they could. Turning a corner, they arrived at a clear glass window. Inside was something akin to a lab, or a high-tech hospital.
"You said that this was a modeling agency, right?" Ron asked, pointing towards the room. "I know I'm not the most fashionable person, and I never will be, but that doesn't look right…"
"No… it doesn't, something's off about this whole place" Sam agreed, searching for more clues.
"Why don't we explore the upper floors? We might find something there" Alex suggested. Her companions agreed and moved in that direction, hiding from the guards that were patrolling the floors.
"What IS this place?" The group had walked into what looked like an office of a CEO, it seemed to be in much better shape. The room contained a large table in the middle, with a computer set on top of it. The spies spotted a few dozen images of different models, ones that would look at home inside a fashion magazine. Out of everything they'd seen so far, this seemed like the only room NOT out of place.
"Hey, check it out! Is that Gazelle?!" Alex suddenly exclaimed, closely examining several of the pictures.
"Gazelle?" the blonde boy parroted, focusing his gaze on Alex's back.
"Yeah, she one of the models working for this place… did Jerry not tell you anything?" Sam questioned, sounding surprised.
"Not really… Only that you girls needed help, Clover had been taken, and there was something fishy about this modeling agency…" Ron confessed.
"Huh… Alex, could you fill him in while I take a look at the files on this computer?" the redheaded spy requested, typing on the keyboard.
"I would love to feel him in-" Alex replied, Sam's hand quickly covering her friend's lips and cutting her off.
"On second thought, I'LL do it…" Sam growled, glaring fiercely at her dark-haired friend. Just what was with her obsession with their new teammate? It was starting to really grate on her nerves.
…
Sam quickly explained their mission. Several models had disappeared, along with the name 'Picture Perfect Modeling Agency' popping up a few times. Jerry had contacted them, shortly after uncovering some details about a clue that the girls had sent him earlier.
"I'm sorry… did you just say you found an EAR?" Ron asked incredulously. He felt a bit queasy when Alex nodded. "A human ear?" he reiterated, receiving another nod.
"Yeah, it fell off Gazelle at the fashion show…" the girl explained.
"About that… Spies, the ear you sent me belongs to a model who was abducted last week" Jerry informed them grimly. "Her name is Gretchen…"
"Wait… Gretchen?" Sam suddenly questioned, scanning the files on the computer once more. "Here! That's the name of one of the donors on Gazelle's list!"
Ron would have voiced his horror at this disgusting revelation, but he sensed someone coming. "Girls, we have company, move away from the desk…" the disguised blonde whispered, both he and the girls quickly rushing over to occupy several seats inside the office.
"Oh? Good afternoon… I wasn't aware I had anyone waiting for me…" greeted the woman who'd just entered the room. Fluffy red hair tied in a bun, a long purple dress with pink sleeves, she was holding onto a golden walking stick. It looked more like an accessory, as opposed to the practical kind. Upon her neck was an odd looking, very bulky, diamond. A pair of blue eyes examined her so-called 'guests'.
"Oh! Y-yes, Miss Tate!" Sam was quick to act, rushing forward to greet the woman (obviously the owner of this office). "We're journalists from 'Trend of the Moment', we're here to interview you!"
Ron was really impressed by Sam's quick thinking and improvisation. If it had been up to him to handle this interruption, Ron's cover would have probably already been blown by now. He really was the silent type- or, the zany. Ron didn't really have any settings between low and high. This was yet another example of why Sam reminded him of Kim so very much.
"Okay? But make it quick, I'm leaving for a model search in- oh…" Tuesday Tate advised, cutting off when her gaze stuck to someone.
Ron froze upon seeing her eyes lock onto his own, then roam across his body- before snapping back up to his own gaze. 'Did we just get found out because of me?!' he thought in panic, wondering if there was something on him that announced they were intruders.
"You!" Tuesday strode up to the male spy, staring at him with a small smile. "Have you ever thought about becoming a model?" she asked.
"Huh?" Ron was stunned beyond words. "I-I don't-" Before he was able to craft a suitable reply, he felt her grab his right bicep. She gave it a few soft squeezes, an even bigger smile blossomed on her face.
"Oh… you are just PERFECT…" she breathed out. "Maybe a different outfit and pulling your hair back? Or, a different color?" She continued muttering to herself, all the while touching his chest and hair, as if she was in a trance.
"M-Miss Tate! P-please…" Sam objected, stopping Alex from blowing their cover. The ravenette was looking pretty annoyed at the moment.
"Wha- Oh!" The woman moved away from the blonde boy, fanning her face a few times. "Please forgive me… it has been some time since I've seen such a…" she took a second to find the right words, "…fine specimen~" the woman exhaled, practically purring.
"I-It's fine…" Ron stammered, laughing awkwardly and glancing to the side.
'Wow, that really caught him off-guard…' Sam observed, her eyes narrowing. Was he not used to attention, or something? "It's okay… Now, about that interview?" Sam prompted, even while she could see Alex's expression was practically screaming her own disagreement.
"Mmm… yes, I suppose I could make some time and SQEEZE you in…" Tuesday agreed, continuing to stare at the sole man in the room.
"Oh, that's real nice of you…" Alex growled irritably, although (luckily) Tuesday didn't seem to notice her hostility.
…
The spies had sat back down, ready to start the 'interview'- or, what was supposed to be one.
"So… do you work out?" asked Tuesday, a smile on her face, as she looked the blonde over again.
"Huh? Oh… umm… I guess a little, here and there." Ron wasn't sure what to say, weren't THEY supposed to be interviewing HER?
"Oh, I almost forgot to ask your name! How silly of me…" the older woman cooed, standing in front of the blonde.
"Miss Tate! Could we please start the interview, if that's alright with you? We'd hate to waste your time-" Sam tried to intervene, hoping to save her male teammate some embarrassment, when she felt a hand on her shoulder.
"Let her finish… it'd be rude to interrupt…" Alex soothed, looking a lot more interested now.
'Figures that she'd let THAT one pass…' Sam sighed to herself.
"Oh! I'm…" What was he supposed to say? 'Sup, I'm Ron Stoppable'? the blonde mused, blurting out the very first thing that popped into his head. "R-Ro Tca…"
"Ro Tca?" the older woman parroted, taking a few seconds to commit the name to memory before turning her head to Sam. "I'd like to have a few words with you later… why don't we start the interview, as you requested?"
"Thank you… I hear you used to be a model Miss Tate, why did you quit?" Sam asked, happy to put her interviewee's odd interest in Ron behind them.
"I-I injured my leg two years ago…" the woman answered, inhaling deeply to calm herself down upon recalling the sensitive topic. "It was a circus themed shoot, I was supposed to play the part of a lion tamer… Unfortunately, the LION tamed ME…" The woman grabbed the hem of her dress, lifting it a few inches- before stopping herself and glancing at Ron.
Sam and Alex could see something metallic attached to the bottom of her leg- or, was THAT her 'leg'?
Noticing Tuesday's reticence, Sam decided to change the subject. "Well… why don't you tell us about Picture Perfect, how is it that you've achieved this sudden-" the redheaded spy asked, cut off by a soft ringing emanating from a phone sitting on the desk.
The former model picked up the small device, "Tuesday speaking…"
…
"Oh… I see…" She glanced at the three teens. "Would you ladies mind moving to the waiting room down the hall, while I take this call?" The teens all got up, Tuesday placed her hand on Ron's chest. "Not you, honey~ I wanted you to try a little something for me, if you don't mind?" the older redhead purred, staring into his eyes.
Ron glanced at both of his new teammates, pleading for help. 'Say something!' his eyes screamed.
"Sure thing, we'll just wait outside…" Sam agreed, pulling Alex away with her.
"…w-wait, I-" Ron's objections died in his mouth, the two spies having already left the room. He eyed the older woman smiling at him warmly. "S-so, what did you wanted me to try?"
…
"Sammy, what the hell?!" Alex shouted angrily, glaring at her friend. "How could you just leave him with her like that?! I know you didn't get along with him, but you just abandoned him to fend for himself!" the ravenette screeched, her gaze moving to the closed doors concealing their new teammate.
"Alex, I don't know what sort of things you think she's going to do to him… but you need to keep it together" Sam whispered. "All Tuesday wanted was to talk to him…"
"That's not what she said…" Alex pointed out.
"Look, you know how capable he is… Plus, this'll help keep our cover intact. Just relax, act natural-" Sam shot back, a loud alarm drowning out the rest of the redhead's advice.
"Well, look who was wrong!" Alex crowed. "We need to get him and find Clover!"
"We will… But, for now, we need to run!" Sam capitulated. Both spies made their escape, ducking into an air vent before any guards could find them.
X-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-X
Ron had been a little confused at first, being left alone with Tate. His two teammates had abandoned him, Ron swore he wouldn't forget this.
The older redheaded woman had been true to her word, she really DID want him to try something. Tuesday had called in an assistant, who had escorted Ron to a dressing room. Then, he'd been given a set of clothes to try on.
'I guess she was serious about that whole modeling thing…' Ron tolerated it as best he could, it wouldn't be a good idea to cause a fuss. He could end up jeopardizing the mission- or Clover, wherever she was.
Ron was now dressed in a dark blue suit, one that reminded him of the suit he'd gotten from Jerry. It was complemented by the addition of an identically-colored hat, one that hid a bit of his face. Ron had his hair slicked back- one lone, stubborn hair drifting in front of his eyes.
All in all, he looked okay as far as he was concerned. Ron's only worry had been what else he'd be expected to do while he was dressed like this.
Suddenly, a loud alarm echoed around him, his body tensed. 'Shit, that's not a good sound!' Was it just him, or had the girls set off the alarm? Ron wasn't sure, but he took it as a sign to get moving.
Glancing around, Ron noticed an air duct above his head. He jumped into the air, quickly climbing inside it. 'What is it with me always getting into these things?' Ron mused, quickly banishing the distracting observation. He started moving as slowly, and quietly, as he could. Everything Ron had already sacrificed would end up being pretty pointless, if he alerted the guards to his presence now.
…
He kept moving for a few minutes, searching for any of the girls- or something that would shed more light on their situation. He froze upon heard loud, and familiar, screaming.
The blonde rushed forward, trying to locate the source. Arriving at a metal grate he peeked through… to see some girl who looked a lot like Alex. 'No, that's not her…' While she was very similar, she was wearing a totally different outfit and had a lighter skin tone.
A door on what seemed like a huge, metal pod opened up. A dense fog spread across the room's floor, Ron's eyes opened wide upon noticing who exactly it was inside the pod.
Ron watched in shock, realizing that he was actually staring at Sam and Alex. They both looked quite different, Alex sporting a head of frizzy red hair. Sam looked like she'd suddenly sprouted freckles- and was now wearing braces!
Both girls glanced at each other and screamed in shock at their friend's new appearance, Ron couldn't blame them… If he had suddenly been altered to look like someone else, he'd probably have the same reaction.
"Wow… and I thought 'I' had it bad…" commented a familiar voice.
The male spy recognized Clover's voice, even if he couldn't see her from his vantagepoint. 'Really? That's what you tell them?' Ron snarked, even as he couldn't help but wonder what had happened to her.
"Now…" Tuesday stepped forward, staring at the two trapped girls. "Since I'll be getting plenty of new donors from all around the world at the convention center… I'm quite ready to dispose of you…" the redheaded villain declared.
"D-Dispose of us?!" Alex croaked out, clearly terrified.
Ron's body tensed up, ready to dive out and rescue them. 'But I'm still not sure how to turn them back, or even how to open the pod…' Did he need a key to free them, a password? What was Clover's situation? Were there any guards around that could threaten the girls, if he tried anything?
Before Ron could convince himself to move, an older man with brown hair and a beard leaned against the pod door. He was wearing a white suit and a flowery shirt. "Yes, we are going to dump you in the ocean… where you will join a school of ferocious, man-eating sharks…"
'Don't say it… don't say it…' Ron chanted in his head, the man just HAD to realize just how cliché all that sounded. 'For the love of all that is holy, don't say-' he prayed, his thoughts cut off when the man spoke once more.
"…for lunch!" he shouted, his smile full of teeth, he seemed quite proud of himself.
'Okay… he's an idiot…' Ron mused, fighting the urge to facepalm. At least that meant the girls were safe… for the moment.
"What!" the three spies shouted out in fear.
'Don't encourage them!' Ron wanted to scream in frustration, this was why he hated the villain mindset… They always felt the need to act as if they were a critical part of some grand performance. They usually came across as Saturday morning cartoon villains- or, at best, children acting out a school play.
"But, before that… I'll need to find your FINAL member…" Tuesday suddenly declared. She glanced at her guards, the women shaking their heads.
"Tuesday, I hardly think we can spare the time to search for one more of them… We still need to get our new 'donors', after all…" the man argued, a bit of irritation in his tone.
"What are you going to do to him?!" Alex shouted, angrily banging on the glass of her prison.
Tuesday simply smiled at the teen. "Well… seeing as you lot will soon be out of my way, and he will be out of a job, I was considering convincing him to join me…"
"He'll never join you!" Surprisingly it had been Sam who responded to that declaration first, the older woman smiling at the claim.
"I doubt he'll say no, not when I'm done 'asking' him…" Tuesday stated vaguely, allowing her statement to hang in the air.
Ron vowed to stay quiet and wait for his chance- it wasn't as if he was worried or anything!
'What is it with me and redheads? If it's not one extreme, it's the other!'
X-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-X
Ron had managed to sneak off after the girls were taken, staying close but out of sight. Luckily, there weren't as many guards around as there were before. He was able to slip onto the large plane, stowing away as the girls were ferried off.
He hid behind some boxes, waiting for the right time to free the three spies (who were currently stuck inside an oversized cage). But, when was the right time? Would their captors unlock the cage and force them to jump out of the plane? Or maybe open the cargo door, then dump the teens into the ocean- cage and all?
Ron wasn't sure, he couldn't stop himself from being nervous about what could happen.
The plane had taken to the air, Ron continuing to wait and observing the guards. He could faintly hear the girls talking, but was unable to understand them. Suddenly, something shiny nearly blinded him. Was that supposed to be a signal or something? Two guards finally seemed to notice the commotion, moving closer to the cage. Pulling out their weapons, they approached whatever it was that appeared to be cutting a hole in the cage.
Ron saw his chance, rushing at one of the guards as quickly as he could. Before their enemies could reach the cage, the new weak spot in the metal was forcibly broke open. Sam flew out, kicking one of the guards away. She used her grappling hook to grab a gun away from the still standing guard, taking aim.
Sam quickly noticed the woman she'd kicked away was already back on her feet, preparing to rush her- only to be stopped in her tracks, being grabbed from behind and restrained.
"So, you are here after all…" Sam observed. She threw the gun she'd stolen away, realizing she no longer needed it.
"Yeah, I managed to sneak in, you okay?" the blonde asked, knocking out the guard in his grip.
"Yeah, thanks to you…" the redhead replied.
"I think you could have handled them just fine on your own…" The disguised blonde moved to the cage, looking for a way to open it.
"Let me… I got this" Sam declared, moving to the door and fiddling with it.
"Can't they just slip out of the same hole you did?" the blonde asked, it seemed pretty unnecessary to open the door.
"They could try… but I'm positive one of them won't be able to fit" the Sam answered with a smirk.
Ron was a bit confused, what did she mean? That was until the door opened, the kidnapped women stepping out. Ron immediately noticed Clover, who was headed towards them. The blonde girl seemed completely fine, the only unusual thing about her being the massive scowl on her face.
"Good Sam! Now, we only need to-" The blonde girl stopped dead in her tracks, as soon as she spotted Ron. "Hello! Who is your friend?" she suddenly asked, looking him over.
"Ah… not you too. Clover, this our newest recruit… remember?" Sam growled irritably, facepalming. She couldn't believe that she'd have deal with both Alex AND Clover acting like this.
"Huh? Our new-" The blonde girl was hit by a sudden realization, she examined his face more intently. "Oh! It's you…" she observed dryly, backing away from him.
"Nice to see you too Clover, you okay?" Ron asked, feeling kind of bemused by her sudden change in attitude.
She scoffed, glancing away. "Do I LOOK okay to you, after what they did to me?" she challenged, her tone heated.
"What they did?" Ron looked the girl up and down, not really noticing anything troubling. "Um… I don't really see anything wrong?"
…
The pair of girls simply stared at Ron for a few moments, Clover pointed at the open cage. "Whatever, go and help Alex out of there… she had a bit of an issue…"
Ron simply nodded and moved away from them, failing to notice the looks they were giving him.
"So… Jerry sent him as my replacement?" the blonde spy asked. "What's with the new getup?"
"No, he just wanted to give us some backup… and I'm not sure. But Tuesday seemed really interested about making him a model… and I mean REALLY INTERESTED…" Sam explained, watching their team's newest addition enter the cage.
"I see. Well… she is crazy, after all. It's no wonder they offered him the chance to be a model, but never did to me. It's surprising that he didn't say anything about your new makeover" the blonde girl teased with a smirk.
"He also didn't say anything about how 'thick' you are now…" the redheaded spy quickly shot back, staring at Clover's new additions.
Neither girl was sure if they should be offended that he failed to comment on their new appearance, or not.
…
"Alex?" Ron prompted, moving inside. A quick search revealed the girl in question, who was apparently ready to move out.
"Ah!" she shouted, quickly hiding her face from him. "Don't look at me…" she whined. Alex tried to move away from him- only to be stopped when Ron grabbed her arm.
"Woah! Alex, did they do something to you?" Ron was certain that they couldn't have hurt her, Sam was still passively watching everything and making sure they were okay.
"I-I'm fine! Just… don't look at me, not now…" Alex begged. He was the last person she wanted staring at her at the moment, considering how she looked. Alex had been so embarrassed to hear that he was on the plane with them… and would most likely see her new appearance.
Alex was worrying about it so much, she failed to notice the step she'd missed. The girl was already heading to the floor- before she hit it, a strong hand stopped her descent and pulled her back up.
"Woah! Careful there, Alex…" Ron advised, hauling the girl up and looking her over.
Alex was left to stare at Ron's new attire, averting her eyes as he stared at the new her. Her eyes closed, fearing the worst, upon hearing him speak.
"Oh good, I was worried they hurt you or something…" the disguised blonde remarked, smiling at her warmly.
"Wha? You… you don't think I'm… hideous looking?" she blurted out without thinking, watching Ron's expression change from relieved to confused.
"What are you talking about? Who said anything about you being hideous?" he asked, watching as her finger moved to point at her own head. "What? I don't see anything that takes away from your beauty-" Ron stopped himself, before he could say anything else. "I-I mean, w-we better join the others and finish this mission… okay?" Ron let her go, hurriedly walking towards the two spies discussing their next plan of attack.
Alex had been left standing there, her new male teammate scurrying off to join her two friends. They already seemed to be fleshing out some plan to stop the evil mastermind. Alex couldn't help staring at Ron as he talked to them, he didn't seem to notice their new appearances.
Sam's braces… Clover's huge thighs… her hair… He didn't seem to notice any of that- or, he simply didn't give it any thought.
'He didn't care about it… he was only worried whether or not I was okay…' the teen spy reflected, her heart beating even harder. She was definitely dead-set on getting to know him after this mission was over.
X-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-X
After a quick debate between Sam and Ron, the blonde boy had agreed with her idea of using a hologram of herself to confuse the pilot and trick him into exiting the cockpit.
'Wouldn't it be easier if we just pop the door open from the outside?' he'd argued at the time.
'And what if we scare him into crashing the plane, or doing something else?' the redhead replied. 'You can't use force to solve EVERY problem' she criticized silently, but didn't say.
In the end, her idea had worked. They'd managed to spook the man and he'd rushed out, only for Clover and Alex to knock him unconscious as soon as he did.
"Remind me again why I'M the one flying the plane?" Ron questioned, his hands currently busy piloting the huge vehicle.
"Didn't you fly that helicopter, the first time we met you?" Sam pointed out, pouring over a map.
"There is a BIG difference between an almost completely automatic helicopter and a plane…" he grumbled, the girls giggling at his obstinance.
"You good over here?" Clover asked.
"Sure… now that I know the direction that we need to head, it's no problem… So, what about the para- wha!" the young Stoppable yelped. He'd turned his head to face the spies… only to see them starting to change into their normal (very colorful) outfits.
"Mmm? What's wrong?" Alex prompted, moving closer.
"Why are you changing HERE?! At least give me a heads-up beforehand!" Ron shouted a bit frantically.
"Why would we? It LITERALLY takes a second with our Compowders, we don't even need to take anything off…" Clover reasoned, as if all that was completely normal.
"It's- you know what? It's fine, my bad… Now, do we have any parachutes on this plane? I'm not so sure me landing anywhere around here is a good idea" the blonde responded, his face still burning at the prospect of the three beauties getting dressed less than two feet behind him. He did NOT need that mental image!
…
Having found several parachutes, the three girls jumped out of the plane. Ron had agreed to remain onboard, consenting to land the vehicle and make sure the models were all okay before calling Jerry to pick them all up.
"Hey Uncle, how's it going?!" he asked, using his new flip phone.
"I thought I told you, that is a VERY unpleasant sight… But, to answer your question… From what the girls have told me, everything had been resolved…" The leader of WHOOP explained that the girls had reached the convention center on time, stopping Tuesday and her goons before she'd been able to capture anyone else.
"That's great to hear! Now… mind sending someone to pick us up? I have a study session to get to…"
"Sure, we'll grab you on our way to the girls…" Jerry agreed, ending the call.
Less than a half hour later, Ron had been picked up and was already on his way with a few agents in tow. Several more had been deliberately left behind, they would be escorting the kidnapped models home and taking care of the plane.
Ron arrived to see the three spies tying up Tuesday and her male helper, both looking defeated (and a little bit out of it). The blonde teen noticed the redheaded villain staring at him.
"There you are! And here I thought you'd run off on us again" Clover commented, moving closer.
"There's no reason to run off when I'm working with you girls…" the disguised blonde replied, the rest of the girls moving closer.
"So that means you're staying!?" Alex shouted, approaching Ron and leaning against his side.
Before he was able to answer, the familiar voice of Jerry cut in. "I'm afraid I have another mission for him at the moment…" he stated, giving Ron a look.
"Aww…" Alex sounded visibly bummed out, she pouted and glared at her boss.
"Do you need us to join him?" Sam quickly offered.
"No, you ladies need to return home and rest…" Jerry responded, signaling one of his agents to escort Ron to his ride.
"Wait, shouldn't he be resting as well? We've all been-" the redhead reasoned, before she was cut off.
"Didn't think you'd be worried about me…" Ron chuckled lightly.
"I'm not-"
"Not to worry girls, he isn't going to be doing anything too dangerous… he should be done soon enough" the older man assured them, Ron waving goodbye to the girls before walking off after his escort.
