Chapter One

Exhaustion was looming over her once she walked into her apartment. Being the top healer, second to Tsunade the Hokage of Konoha, was a blessing and yet a curse. No one in his or her damn mind knew how to take care of a simple broken bone or simple burns. However, she loved every minute of it. If she was asked at the age of thirteen if she wanted to be a Healer, that would have been a straight no from her. Though when she was tired of seeing her friends hurt or injured from being on the line of duty changed her mind.

As she was drifting off to sleep a knock alerted her. With a heavy sigh, she made her way to the door. Opening it, Sasuke stood there with flowers. Shit, they had a date tonight and she just got home from working a 48-hour shift. Shit. Shit. Shit.

"Did you just get home?" He asked walking in.

"I did sorry. I will change and then I will be ready." She disappeared into her room not allowing her to say anything else. When she walked back in changing from her scrubs to a simple navy-blue dress, she saw him putting the flowers he brought her in a vase.

He looked up at her as she was putting in earrings. "We can stay in if you want. I can cook and we could watch a movie." He suggested to her. That as one thing that made just love him. He knew just how to read her moods.

"No, we had plans tonight and I know that you reserved at the top restaurant. If we back out now it would be a year before we are able to eat there." She walked over to him and kissed his cheek. He said nothing to her as he followed her to the door.

Once there was out the door, he took her hand as the walked down the street. Tonight, they were celebrating four years. Sakura heard everyone whisper about the possibility of him proposing to her tonight. In truth she knew he wouldn't. Why? His focus was to be on the same level if not higher than his brother. He told her the night they had sex that he would marry her once he achieved that dream. It's been four years and he was inches away of surpassing his brother. Sakura knew that the real reason was for his father to acknowledge him the same way as he does with Itachi.

"So, sounds like Naruto finally asked Hinata to marry him." Sakura said to break the silence.

"Don't you think they are rushing things? They only been together for a year." He stated sounding judgmental.

It was true that Naruto and Hinata had only been together for a year but there was true love and being loyal to one anther all around them. Something that Sakura envied and hoped she would have that. Sure, she was with Sasuke and that was a dream come true that he chose her of all people but was it true love? She was still figuring out that aspect of their relationship.

"I don't think they are rushing things. I just know that Naruto will love her endlessly like she has with him. I am meeting with the girls in the morning for coffee and I will probably find out what the plans are." She wrapped her arms around his, while still holding his hand. He shrugged away from her closeness and let go of her hand. He still had a hard time with be intimate in public. He only allowed holding hands. That was the deal.

They continued to walk in silence until they arrived. There they were seated in the back for more privacy. She didn't know why they needed the privacy when she knew that he wouldn't do anything. The helped her with her chair before he sat down. the server handed them a menu and asked what they would like to have to drink. Sasuke answered for both ordering tea.

She held her menu up to hide the irritation that was on her face. He would know how irritated she was and say knowing. Cooling down she looked at her menu once more and seeing that most of the words where in French. She cursed herself for not paying attention to that class in high school. But she knew a few words. She when the server came back with their tea, asked if they were ready to order. Before Sakura could open her mouth, Sasuke already ordered for both and grabbed her menu to hand to the server.

She schooled her emotions and when the server left, she asked, "Is something the matter or are you just in a hurry to end the date?"

He glanced at her showing his poker face. She hated that she couldn't read his emotions like he could with her. "I just wanted to help since you worked a long shift at the hospital. Sorry if I didn't share that with you."

"Its fine I was just curious that's all." Her irritation deflated. She could never win with him over words. He just seemed to always have the last word and make her feel bad about disagreeing with him.

"I didn't want to upset you. However, I am sure what about to tell you it won't matter anyway." She gave him a confused look. "I was assigned to go undercover. This assignment is going to last a month or two. While I am undercover, I am unable to contact you until it is done."

Sakura reached for her tea and took a sip of it. He was waiting for her to say something. When she placed her tea back on the table to spoke. "I am not as upset that you are out doing your job. This was something that you wanted to do in the long run. I am more excited for you." She gave him a genuine smile so show that she was truly happy for him.

"Just think if I do well with this job, my father will have now choice but to acknowledge me." She kept that smile on her face.

How could she forget that when he graduated from the academy, he mission in life was to step out of his brother's shadow and have his father shed some of that light on to Sasuke. She knew that it had been his life's mission when they shared the dreams in grade school. Lately in this past year and into this year he never spoke a word about it until now.

Well," she lifted her glass. "Let celebrate your dream coming true." With that he lifted his glass and clinked it with hers.

Her alarm went off and she felt Sasuke stir next her. After dinner last night he stayed, and they had sex. It never failed when they have a date it always ended with sex. After their second date four years ago, they had that special night that was magical but now not so much. Sakura would try something knew and he would tell her no. That he just wanted it too simple. Sure, she liked simple, but she always liked to spice it up at times.

Stretching, Sakura made her way to the shower and dressed. When she was done, Sasuke was already gone leaving her a note and a flower. The note simply said, 'I love you.' This was their tradition. When he would leave for an assignment, he would leave his "I love you" note and a flower. She took the note and put with the others that she had. As for the flower she put with it with the flowers that Sasuke got her last night.

Satisfied with that she made her way out the door to the hospital. It was still early in the morning where the path to the hospital was empty and peaceful. This was the only time of day that she loved. However, it was short lived with the way there being short. When she walked in though she had a smile on her face as she passed by the nurse's station to her office.

Right on cue, a nurse walked in with charts for Sakura to look over and then her schedule surgeries. It was another busy day it seemed.

"You're also scheduled to meet with Lady Tsunade at lunch today. So, I moved your schedule around." The nurse told Sakura.

"Do you by chance know what she wants to see me about?" Sakura questioned while putting on her doctor's coat.

"No, I was told to redo your schedule because of the meetings."

Sounds good thank you." Sakura took the files and made her way to each patient.

Entering the first patient room things click in and she went right to work. By the time noon rolled around, Sakura made her way to the Hokage's office. She knew she didn't need to rush over, but the curiosity was picking on her. What did Lady Tsunade want? Did Sakura need to travel to another village for a patient? Or was there a Kage that need her medical advice? All those possibilities could be one or all. Sakura done it before, and she knew that it would happen once more.

Walking in to the Red House, she went through the security measures before walking up the twisted staircase for the round building. She used this time to control her breathing and thoughts. She didn't need to rush into her mentor's office looing like a mess. Taking her last breath as she approached the door. With one knock she waited to enter.

"Come in Sakura."

Sakura walked in and closed the door. Turning away from the door she paid her respects to the Hokage, Lady Tsunade.

"You wish to see me may lady?" Sakura asked lifting her head to look right at Tsunade.

"Yes, I will get to it." Tsunade stood up from her chair and walked around to the front of her desk and leaned against it. "Its that time of year that each nation is having a rotational update with each Kage. What we could offer them and in return what they can give us. Since I am unable to travel to each of the nations, I am sending you. All the other Kage are doing the same by sending an ambassador of shorts to visit."

Sakura looked at her confused. "Why me if I may ask Lady Tsunade?"

"You are my second next to Shizune. You have a way that makes others talk about anything. Shizune well she can be awkward when she talks with others." Tsunade explained when there was a knock on the door. "Good timing. Come in."

Sakura turned to see who was coming in and when she did, her breath caught in her throat. The man that walked in was Uchiha Itachi.
