-๑-๑ ஜ ๑- Chapter 31: Reconcile -๑ ஜ ๑-๑-
-Shizuo´s point of view.-
Tch, stupid flea.
Annoyed the blond took one step after the other as the pleasant sound of the school bell ringing resounded within the school. Classes were over for today. After having met the raven he had just returned, annoyed and kinda pissed off because he had only been worrying for that ungrateful flea.
And yet even though he was pissed off, he couldn't stop worrying after all. Because that guy, the guy he saw at the gate was just way too shady. What did he want from Izaya? Who was that? He didn't know what exactly it was but something was just terribly off with the entire situation that had displayed itself in front of him before.
Whilst visiting Izaya at home he had seen his dad, so he knew that wasn't him- and what's more Izaya didn't seem like he kew the guy either so why was he so pissed off about him interfering?
It was annoying, annoying beyond means- but the most annoying thing about the entire situation was that Shizuo just had no damn clue what the hell was going on in the first place. It was not the flea´s fault at all actually.
And so he was here now, leaning against the outer wall of the school, right next to the gate.
The other pupils were leaving the school, going home, just as they did on any other normal day. Some didn't even notice he was standing there, leaning against the wall and waiting, other did take notice of him and made it a point to keep their distance.
… he couldn't just leave things standing like this. Hell he had intended to apologize to the flea for whatever had upset him the day before in the first place- walking off and just going home now was out of question.
He had wanted to apologize to the flea and now he had only made things get worse-
Great-
The raven in question had no idea what was waiting for him as he packed up his school bag. His plan had been to leave school earlier, but upon meeting that stranger sent by his father- or maybe not? He didn't know, but anyway after meeting that guy he somehow felt more at ease staying inside this shitty building.
One by one his classmates passed, oblivious to the questions that were swarming inside his head.
He was used to the fear- the fear he felt when knowing he had to go home after a while, the fear of knowing what he was supposed to expect- but he never thought the thought of not knowing what was going to happen was even worse.
Of all the things his father wasn't there was one variable he could always rely on, his predictability. He knew what was ticking him off- basically everything he said, so he avoided him, he knew how to appear invisible in order to not get dragged into his moods, but he had no idea what this scene before had been about.
And it scared him.
Beyond means.
Taking the first wary steps outside the building Izaya´s eyes scanned the area- for a moment he almost expected that guy to be still there and wait for him, but he was lucky, this did not seem to be the case as he faced nothing but an empty road instead.
It was literally empty- because having been busy to check out his surroundings the raven had been slower than the rest of his entire class and so all the students had already left and all the cars that were picking them up as well.
"Oi flea, you're late." Startled the raven jumped in his skin- not at all having expected the voice that was suddenly speaking to him from his right. Wiping around he faced the person he already knew the voice belonged to.
Shizu-chan. He was standing there, leaning against the wall- and judging his expression he was just as pissed off as earlier.
"... care to tell me what are you still doing here?" the raven sighed, deeming that it would be the best to just ignore the blond- seeing as he was only going to ask questions that Izaya neither couldn't nor wanted to answer.
"Waiting, what else?" the blond replied gruff, and pushed himself off the wall, just when the raven passed him, and joined him in his walk.
Internally sighing the raven decided he would just ignore the blond, if he wanted to follow him around until he reached his home then he could do so, not like Izaya cared. Besides, Shizu-chan´s home was just up ahead across the road. He would get rid of him soon enough.
At least that's what he thought would happen, because when Izaya crossed the road that led to his home the blond didn't change directions- but simply kept walking with him.
Side by side, he was just right there, that glare still settled on his expression as though someone had glued it on there.
"Shizu-chan, I might inform you your home is in the other direction," Izaya informed with a hiss- usually he wouldn't be the kind to get annoyed by something as simple as this- but now that his nerves were already blank because of the mystery that was the man that had wanted to fetch him in his father´s stead, he couldn't quite remain as calm as he wanted to.
"I know, shut up," Shizuo replied gruff- he wasn't stupid, he had already noticed tha flea was just as pissed off as before, and the words he spoke had been spoken with the intention of getting rid of him, but Shizuo simply decided not to do so.
Since when had he done what the flea wanted him to in the first place?
The raven was about to explain to the blond in detail that he should just fuck off already, but then there was a car. It wasn't any special car, just one of the countless machines that drove within the city. But the way Shizu-chan reacted to it was certainly not usual.
Even though just from the corner of his eyes, Izaya could see it, the way Shizuo tensed, his eyes glared at the vehicle as though he was going to throw it across the road if it dared to come closer- and hey he would be able to do that much with this inhuman strength of his.
He acted as though he thought danger was radiating from the car- and Izaya realized that the blond wasn't walking him home to spite him, or annoy him.
No.
That wasn't it.
... that damn brute.. his instincts were a fucking hassle… and yet… he couldn't quite help but feel a sense of safety wash over his body.
The anxiety that had had a grip on his vanished for just that short moment. Because as stupid as it sounded, at least right now, while the blond was walking right next to him, protecting him, he really did feel safe.
Realization caused guilt to nag on his mind considering Izaya had snapped at the blond even though he had only meant well.
Hell, that guy always meant well- just had the oddest ways of expressing it.
"Sorry about before," the raven murmured softly, somehow feeling an odd kind of insecure heat take over his mind for a moment. The option of Shizu-chan maybe having had enough of his irrational behaviour crossing his mind for a second.
But there was no need to fear this result it seemed as the blond merely rubbed the back of his neck, seeming just as lost as he replied.
"Same I guess." He wasn't holding any sort of grudge for the flea or what he said, hell Shizuo was the kind of guy that forgot and forgave people fairly quickly and easily in the first place. Mostly because he just knew what it was like to fuck up one moment and feel the immense guilt right after while still knowing he couldn't fix it.
And talking about before Izaya had clearly been lashing out of him because of the stranger. "... who was that creepy guy?" Carefully and cautiously the question dropped from Shizuo´s lips- not wanting to cause another fight but also wanting to soothe this burning curiosity inside his chest.
"... he was a coworker from my dad, I don't like him," the raven responded slowly, already making the blond happy as he wasn't lashing out at him again.
A co-worker, huh?
"Why would he come to your school though?" Shizuo frowned, a bit confused.
"Seems my dad asked him to drive me home."
And hey, that…. was not quite a lie. It was what the stranger had proposed to do after all.
A soft hum followed on Shizu-chan´s part and Izaya really hoped he wasn't going to pry further.
"... actually I wanted to apologize." Blinking the raven looked at the blond, not having expected his words at all.
"What for?" he asked, not quite recalling anything the blond had done he could feel the need to apologize for, hell, if anyone had a lot of apologizing to do then it was probably Izaya himself.
"... actually I don't really know.," the blond started, "About yesterday," he mumbled, "I figured I must have fucked something up, so-"
"It's nothing just forget about it," quickly, feeling yet more guilt assault the raven he interrupted the blond, not wanting him to apologize for something Izaya most likely should be the only to feel sorry for.
"No, I did something wrong," Shizu-chan replied firm, however, having made up his mind it seemed, "Even if you won´t tell me what it is, I´m sorry." Falling silent the raven didn't know what to respond. He couldn't just fool Shizu-chan, say it was nothing when he already went this far. But what was he supposed to say? Thank you? Sorry? "Next time I fuck something up, just, I don't know, tell me off or something," the blond suddenly suggested, perking Izaya´s ears.
"Like a dog?" he snorted, the comparison slipping form his tongue before he noticed how rude it actually was considering how genuine the blond was right now.
But to Izaya's relief he was smiling.
"You can say, 'bad Shizu-chan', if that works out for you, sure," he announced, and Izaya couldn't help but snort at the suggestion.
"That´s a really tempting offer," he replied, stifling the laughter that threatened to spill from his lips.
"Then make use of it," Shizuo shrugged, the frown finally having disappeared from his forehead as the flea was finally laughing again. Shinra had been right. With everything he said, pressuring the flea or trying to pry for answers was only going to get things worse. Seeing Izaya happy like this, that was what the blond really wanted.
Looking at the blond next to him, Izaya rally was happy, and yet- there was this hint of guilt naggin at his soul.
"How come you aren't mad at me?" he questioned softly, not quite understanding how Shizu-chan could forgive him over and over again.
"For what?" the blond blond asked, obviously oblivious to what the raven was talking about.
"Pushing you away, running off, yelling at you, choose what you like," Izaya mumbled, not quite sure if he really wanted to remind Shizu-chan of the things he had done and the trouble he caused. But as always that blond succeeded in surprising him with his unpredictability.
"I guess that's just how fleas are, no? I knew what I got myself into, and it's not like you didn't tell me from the beginning that you weren't going to give me an easy time," Shizu-chan shrugged and Izaya couldn't help but smile at the response.
True. He had always told Shizu-chan what he was getting himself into here.
The two of them were still walking next to each other, and it just so happened that the pavement shrunk in size as they approached the last cross road to Izaya's home.
Shizuo stepping to the right and Izaya to the left the inevitable happened as the raven felt the back of his hand brush against another, warm one.
"Ah, sorry," Izaya replied reflexively, a little abashed as he pulled his hand away- except the warmth of another was already softly encircling it before he could do such.
Grasping it softly in his own hand the raven only caught a glance of the blond´s face, turned away, before feeling these annoying butterflies in the pit of his stomach again and doing just the very same as his own hand softly grasped back.
Fuck, what was he even doing?
His heart was beating like crazy from something as simple as this, he could even feel it in his hand- could Shizu-chan feel it too?
Ahh and Shizuo wasn't any less nervous- catching a glimpse of Izaya he noticed a tinge of redness gathered around his cheeks and god damn-
Fuck, fuck, fuck the flea was too fucking cute-
Shizuo had wanted to say more, but now he somehow had lost his voice.
Glancing to the side he caught another glimpse of the flea- and even though he looked happy- and adorable, there was still this hint of- … what was it? Sadness? Shizuo didn't really know what it was but deep down something still seemed to trouble the flea.
By whatever it was that he didn't want to tell the blond.
Crossing the street, the two were there- at Izaya's house. Izaya almost felt sad that their small walk was over so fast.
"We are here, guess you should head back so you are not la-" breaking off midway the raven´s voice died as he felt himself being tugged forward by the hand that had been trapping his own so nicely.
Warmth wrapping around his body there was suddenly a pair of arms, pulling him into a hug.
Izaya was surprised, speechless even as he swallowed. No word was lost, Shizuo didn't say anything either as he just held the flea close.
"You can say, 'bad Shizu-chan', now, if you wanna," he suddenly murmured, and Izaya couldn't help but get lost in that warmth that was suddenly spreading inside out.
Feeling his bangs brush against the blond´s white shirt, he closed his eyes with a soft sigh. Hesitantly he moved his own arms, hugging the blond back lightly as he just let his forehead rest against the blond´s chest.
It wasn't really until now that Izaya had realized just how tall the blond was. It had been hard to tell just looking at the raging bull when he was chasing after Izaya. But now that he was looming over him like this Izaya just felt protected. Safe. Warm.
Minutes passed, Izaya was pretty sure it were minutes, and yet neither of them moved. Not that he minded, they could continue to stand here like this forever and he wouldn't mind.
And Shizuo- was just getting happier with every minute that passed. He felt like he was being so much closer to the flea than ever. Sure they had kissed and on the trip way back even more things had happened, and yet- now this- Izaya had never let the blond see him this… vulnerable. Never.
And yet it simultaneously proved that there really was something wrong that the raven kept to himself. Moving softly the blond loosened his hug as the raven back off again.
Glancing up at the blond he seemed as though he wanted to say something, but swallowed it back down. A glance was cast towards Shizuo´s face, another, and suddenly he leant up, standing on the tip of his toes as his lips connected with Shizuo´s briefly.
"See you tomorrow, Shizu-chan," the raven whispered against them as he left off again.
"Yeah see you tomorrow," the blond mumbled back, a smile tugging at his lips as the raven left, towards the door to his house and disappeared inside it.
Turning around the blond couldn't help but grin broadly.
Waiting for Izaya to get out of school was the best decision he had ever made.
